Nice! I love the stencil work on the new dread (I'm assuming that was done with a stencil and not freehand, correct?).

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

Hey guys, thanks for the comments!

The grass I'm using for this army is GF9's Arid Grass. As for the SW's I've painted up, I've only painted two, but for both it was Shadow Grey followed by a Space Wolves Grey highlight. And no, they're not stencils ^_-. All hand done. I do use a guide for my chapter badges though in the form of a water transfer with paint applied over top.

Now that you point it out, the grass does look very good!

The second dread is every bit as nice as the first and the weathering is great, just as well you did a nice weathering tutorial for it too!

Cheers,

Thanks a lot for the advice with the sponge technique I'll have to try it!

He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. I have LOTS of WIP shots that I'm planning to use as tip fodder in the coming weeks. Expect an updated paint chipping how to and a bunch of other little things like tank tracks and headlights on TPC!

C&C welcome as always!

Very nice as always GD. The smoke/soot around the exhausts is a nice touch. I like the side door with the V on it too, it looks as if a Tyranid or something has tried to get in there.

I cannot wait to see the updated paint chip tutorial. While your color choice, streaks and weathering etc. is all good, the chipping is what makes these models truly ace. One more good reason to lurk the Painting Corps site!

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

That rhino looks good and is fitting addition to your marines.
I like the chipping especially on the black areas, they really look well done and stand out. The black soot around the exhausts is also a nice detail. Excellent work all together.

What a great addition to your army.

I would also sprinkle little dust around it, and I would advice you to drill out the exhaust pipes holes.

Keep up the good work Grey!

Thanks a ton for all of the kind words guys. Some replies:

Savnock, I hope to have the chipping tutorial going within the next two weeks. The paint chip effect really is one of the major style choices I made when I first started this force. It's what makes everything look well together even when painted in completely different color schemes!

Metsuri, I felt the boys in green deserved a ride as well, and a standard razorback is a steal for the points ^_-. The black chipped spots definitely stand out a bit more, and as such I tried to limit it a bit more in those spots. Soot is just my Tamiya Weathering Compact soot smeared on using the sponge side of the applicator tool!

Migs, Thanks ^_^. I definitely think it could do for another dusting along the skirts. I put a bit of it on those areas already, but it just wasn't enough to stand out and look how it should.

frogboy, Dust and dirt and grime and damage is what this force is all about ^_^. So it'll definitely catch a bit more dust to drive that point home!

Northern, Thanks ^_^, as mentioned it'll get some dusting, likely just some bleached bone drybrush. I also take a different view on exhaust pipes than many. All of the vehicles I ever worked with in the military had caps or downward facing exhaust, since these face up it would mean they'd need a cap to keep water and other fluid out ^_-.

Shaman, thanks, it's funny because I really don't put a lot of thought into the staining, it's very organic and based on what is there and what paint chipping/damage is in the section I'm working on!

That's really nice art there!
Not much of a fan of your desert troops, but the green ones are awesome.

How do you do those scratches on the vehicles?
With a sponge or do you paint them one by one?

Orky_nman, dig through the comments above.

Kravus, thanks!

DE, Why thank you.

Maj.Winters, Thanks for the compliment, and I'm glad to be of service to GW's cogs of consumerism ^_-...

IPS, I use sponge or gnarly paint brushes to do my chipping. Stay tuned for a link in the future to a how to with photos. As for the desert troopers, people either love them or just don't get it. I personally love them ^_^.

Excellent, just a lovely model. The chipping and weathering are just amazing in their ability to deceive the eye. I really can't get over how much depth and heft they lend to the model. Well done!
