Hi all,

This is my Parasite of Mortrex. The body is made of a winged nazgûl's dragon. The wings are from some dragon, no idea which. The head is a heavily greenstuffed old school hive tyrant head with some random spiky bits from the carnifex kit attached to it. Mawloc scytals, filed a bit jagged, one pair stretched getting ready to strike. Breast scales are from the trygon/mawloc kit, a bit filed and extended with greenstuff. The tail is made of some odd bit I found (might be an arm from some chaos-ish/demon-ish army, I have no idea). Looked like a cool, little mouth though, so I put a genestealer implant attack in it and added a toxin sac as well to represent the parasite attack. I do try to make codex art lookalikes when there is no official model, but this implant tail idea sort of distracted me away from simply making a huge spike. Well, I like it.

Scale wise I think it's a bit bigger than most parasites I've seen, but I wanted an HQ to be a bit more noticable so when I found the nazgûl dragon body it was love at first sight. The old tyrant head is a bit sub-optimal if I may pick at myself. I would have preferred an open mouthed, more bird predator like face, like the codex art. But, an old HQ head must count for something, and I am enough pleased with it anyway.

Comments? Feel free, please do!

My only comment/crit would be that there needs to be some sort of bony head-plate like the warriors and tyrants have to tie it in with the rest of the army.

Other than that, great conversion work. Nice use of non-GW bitz.

A lot. 5K +

THE NAZGUL IS METAL?!

Thank god I never bought it that one day.

In return, I have to say that is a cool nid. I really like the look of the OOP tyranids than the new ones for some reason. Nice use of it, and not bad green stuffing too.

Thanks, all!

@Mr Nobody: interesting idea. I might consider it.

@A Black Ram: Yep, it is metal. Just don't ask me which edition it is. I inherited it from a friend. I couldn't tell if I had all the bits to make a nazgûl dragon or not, but since I don't play LotR anyway, it had to become part of the hive fleet's biomass. I too enjoy the OOP part of being a tyranid player. Tyranids come in so many different shapes and sizes that if you have to create a model yourself, you can really knock yourself out and go wild as much as you please. I often turns out nice by the end of the day anyway.

Looks a lot more true to the book artwork than mine currently does, except for the head, which looks more Zoanthrope to me. Quite cool and impressive none the less.

P.S. The old Nazguls were metal, the current one you can order is all plastic. I like the pose on the old ones better though...

Thanks!

I've seen the pose on the new nazgûls and I must agree, I also prefer the pose on the old ones.

The new winged Nazgul (the plastic one) is a thing of rare sculpting talent Nice Parasite like the way it sort of looms up out of the Darkness

This. Other than that, it looks great! I think with the tongue off, it'll look like it's just smiling menacingly down and whatever it's about to murder.

Thanks! The bony head-plate is indeed as homogenizing detail. The only reason I left it out was that there is no significant head-plate in the art. That, and that any detail which make an HQ/legendary creature stand out, are good enough reasons for me to let heterogenistics reign occationally.

Thanks, me too!

Concerning the tongue. It is an interesting thought that I'll ponder a bit. The suggestions to cut it is more in alignment with the art, which I like the thought of. Keeping it adds to the implant attack feel, not necessary reserved for the tail.

I like the tongue. Its the same tyrant head I used for my parasite, and its from the oooold Hive Tyrant. Old tyrant implant attack heads arnt common enough to just chop the tongue off.
Besides, it looks cool, and its two more spiky/grabby things, which to me is just right.
Plus, how to get the tongue out of the head as well instead of a shiny cut off nub?

Good work!

Those are the reasons for keeping it right there. It's indeed old. It think I bought that tyrant some 15-17-ish years ago!

This ones mine, though a bit small. Some of the older models are just... better.
Like the carnifex with a mouth inside a mouth! That guy shows up to eat.

Still extremely covetous of your tail. Nice tongue though!

Nice one Doomthumbs! You fell for the old school warrior body that looks like a bee, and I can see why you picked that for your parasite. Have you magnetized the weapons? What kind of arms did you use?

Haha no magnets here, just bare empty holes for now. I'm going to have the backwards facing mawloc talons and something for the arms, most likely the smaller long warrior talons.

I do like your idea of making it bigger because its a HQ. I was debating this myself because it isn't a MC, so the old warrior body seemed about right. Plus it has that big stinger, and it looks like a few rippers could easily fit in there.

That's not an Implant Attack head, those are Flesh Hooks my friend. They didn't have Implant Attack way back then. I'd still get rid of them though because they look dumb. Got rid of mine back in the day as well.

Ah, I see. Of course, a bell is ringing in the back of my head, that sounds familiar. I was misled by their implanty look.
