The only use I can imagine for the trygon's hole being useful is to use it as a terrain feature that provides cover once its on the board.

Edit: Credit to Connor McKane for making the Crater itself, and suggesting this conversion after I broke my Trygon.
Also, adding more pics.

Why not? Pg 50 Tyranid codex says to mark the position with a suitable marker. Suitable sized hole for a Trygon coming out is that crater thing.
Pg21 of the BRB says you can't take cover with you. When the trygon appears, it comes out of the base on the next turn and joins to the tail. Leaves the marker behind, and so is not taking cover with it. Pg 21 even lists craters as a 4+ save.

Works according to the rules, IMO.

Wouldn't want NID'S swarmin all over my stove top hahaha Great model !

Agree it kinda is just creating terrain not taking it with it nor is it using the cover from the crater so i call fair. If you destroy a building it becomes a ruin , so you tunnel a giant bug through the dirt it makes a giant crater realistic .

Dear Lord why was that Trygon in your stove!!! But I like the terrain bit, looks great, Trygon looks nice as well. I wouldn't be opposed to creating terrain in a game as it seems to fit, but I would say talk it out with your opponent first.

Good idea, though I would prefer the crater to be an inch or two high, as the one you've made is too dominant. I like the colours you've used and the amount of thought, time and effort you've put in. Nice clean stove that

I'd like to see the rest of the Trygon as well

I like the tunnel, well done! I am no rulebook master and often judge spontaneously allignment with fluff.. heh.. so I better not comment on the ruleside. The terrain piece is however really nice. Certainly there should be some sort of terrain left behind as a witness of the deep strike, and you made one. Good job.

Well rule wise, it's like placing your own terrain wherever you want. Awesome concept, but don't try it unless the other player agrees. Apart from that you did a great job.

Thanks guys! Been getting comments on the models so I'll say how I did the paint, since it was super easy.
First, Primed everything with a light tan spray paint and then slapped GW's bleached bone in a kind of half assed drybrush over that with a large brush, just trying to get different colors/ patches with the bone.

For the skin, its a Brown India ink/ GW Water effects 50/50 mix. This does two things: Looks just as wet as when you put it on when it dries, and the ink is a shader wash.
The Chitin is "Dark Green Pearl" from the testors line.

Both the skin shading and chitin layer go on as wet as I can. Just slap it on, which does the same basic thing as "Dipping" the nids, but I get more control and less pooling. The chitin especially is applied with the mentality that the paint is cheap and I don't need much for the plating on most models. I actually put too much paint on, in a few coats. The wet paint isn't enough to drip off, but it will pool and sag and have different colors settle out of the pearl color. After a few coats it ends up looking deeep green, with different layers to it. I'll try and get some more pics up later.

The other trygon is from my sand/badlands paint scheme, which is a pain to layer and doesnt actually look all that great imo.

^ Hells yeah. Plus, before the FAQ, it was possible to take empty pods, and drop them on the field for cover. Why not use whats left?

The way I see it, the Trygon is simply using a drop pod.

If I were you, I might make the crater a bit smaller, because, as it is, that crater looks like it can hide one or two entire models, and that seems like a bit too much cover from a thing bursting through a bunch of dirt.

*Attempt at explaining things without hand movements*
The way a circle 'peeling' outward works, is that the distance up can't be more than the distance from the edge to the center, since it's peeling back from the center. So it sorta looks like _/___\_ instead of _/_\_

Hope that helps, if it doesn't, I can attempt to elaborate...

Ex nihilo

Computer, great point. I just measured it, and I'm covered as far as physics goes. bottom of my hole to the top is almost exactly the radius of the circle.
_/___\_ is the same height as _/_\_ as far as ASCII art holes go, and does not account for the volume of a Trygon. No hand movements necessary, I don't think. At least none that would convey the thought that a Trygon displaces a lot of dirt. So my crater has some bulge to it, is a little beefy. Some dirt love handles.
To me, its the perfect width, height and volume to account for a trygon coming through.

I think the crater should be shorter but otherwise I love it. I also think that in apocalypse games it should be able to call in a unit of gaunts from that hole once a turn (the hole and tunnel are there the gaunts can go through it) but they have to be from reserve. I would like this in smaller games but it wouldbe overpowered.

Wait, what? The hole already does that Draglide. Its universally hailed as being a bad strategy though, as the earliest anything coming in would get there is turn 3. Its not overpowered, or limited to apocolypse.

Personally, I think it should be taller. Wider, too. With brown painted cotton to represent the dirt being tossed out.
Alternatively, I'm gonna use the one I have. Its perfect.

Its in the Nid codex, second paragraph of subterranean assault on pg 50.
It still kinda blows though. The only way to make use of it is as cover past turn 2 or 3 when the trygon shows up.
And its STILL better to just start the trygon on the table in most cases.

Nice suggestion though, even though its already a rule.
