Is there any way to make small chains stick in place? So they appear to be in full swing, without it being brittle as all hell. Or am I hoping for the impossible here?

All I can think of is to glue each link in place. Maybe dilute PVA?

Make a chain out of green-stuff? really hard but would probably be as good as it gets.

I've been told that glue works well for this.

If you can get the chain into the position you want and hold it that way, you can run thin superglue right down the whole length of the chain, then hold it in place while it dries and/or hit it with accelerant.

Glue is the only thing i can think of.

Glue the chain to the anchor point how you want it. Hold the model so the chain hang in the direction you want it to start flowing out and put a bit of glue on the first couple link. Turn it slight so the chain hangs in a slight curve to the start and glue the next couple link. Rinse repeat for the whole length. After it's done let it dry good, then go thru and put more glue along the whole length for better durability.

Aduro, that looks awesome.

If that doesn't work out for you, Reaper makes some 1-piece "chains" you can find here. They're a bit short though, so Aduro's method may be the way to go.

You could use the spiky bits for the ends as icons or whatever too. Or, if you don't need too much chain, they've got this kit that also comes with some pirate weapons.

Will merely second (or fifth?) Aduro's post as I have done the same thing myself. Word of caution however- be *very* careful w/ the model ones it is done (game play, storing in the case, etc) because invariably it's bits like this that get broken and since it's only superglue holding it together it is the... heh... weakest link on your model.

Finding chain is easy. I got three feet of the stuff for like $5 at Michaels. They've got a bunch of sizes and styles and colors to choose from as well.

The chains on mine tend to not be all that delicate. After they're good and dry in the angle I want them I go back thru and put more glue on them untill the hollows on all the links are filled with glue. Makes them sturdier and then I paint them black before drybrushing them the silver I use and it makes the color pop better too.

Also you can get so Super Glue accelerator at your local hobby store. That will make glue the links in pose mush faster and far easier.
