Hello again Dakka!

I’ve once again decided to start a new project log (I really should stick to one project at a time! ). This time I will be concentrating on, as you can probably tell from the title, that Hallowed Brotherhood, the Cult of the Omnissiah, yes that’s right, The Adeptus Mechanicus *Appause*

Recently re-inspired by a spate of awesome project logs that I managed to discover again, I have taken it upon myself to expand the ideas that I started in “Explorator Maniple 111010 - An Ad Mech Necromunda thread” into a full army

For your pleasure, here are the blogs I have found most influential. Of course, no AdMech list of cool could start anywhere other than with the man himself, The Hoff and his awesomeness:

- The Hoff’s AdMech and Part II

Swiftly followed by the Polish maestro, Hortwerth, who I believe later went on to sculpt Micro Art Studios’ Iron Brotherhood:

- Hortwerth’s AdMech

The rest are all awesome as well (no offence intended to the owners of these logs intended, most of you would probably agree e two above are AdMech greats!):

- The Damned Artificer’s AdMech
- Cerebralerebus’ AdMech
- Apologist’s AdMech
- Hellbrandt Grimm’s Warlord Titan
- The Damned Artificer’s Reaver scratch-build
- SDKFZ’s Reaver scratch build
- Bigdaddy’s Knight Titan Household
- CommissarKhaine’s Knight Titan

And, special mention of course to Dave Taylor, who may have been one of the first to realise the AdMech into army form (afaik).

Now the list is out of the way (seriously, it may be a mammoth task but each and every one of those links is worth at least a look ) I can start talking about my stuff.

As I said before I started with the AdMech a couple of years ago in the from of a Necromunda gang. Here are a few pics [Apologies to those who’ve already seen these from my ‘munda blog]:

That’s where I finished off last time in terms of painting. This time I’ve decided to jump in at the deep end and build a Knight Titan! I originally intended it to be a Paladin, but looking at the stockiness of the legs I feel I may have to make it a Warden ad get some thinner pipe for the Paldin.

And that’s where I am now. Hopefully I should have some more work done over the weekend. In terms of my vision for the Skitarii and AdMech in general, I will most likely make the Hypaspists out of DKK Grenadiers (suitably ‘teched’ up of couse). The painting will be dark and brooding and hopefully I can pull off a few crazy conversions!

That’s it for now, I’m off for a cup of tea after that mammoth post, hopefully some of you read it all!!

Nice start, and good to see those old AdMech models again, loved those!

As for the model: consider what size you want it to be in the end. Mine is 25cm/10". Bigdaddy's model is a tad smaller IIRC. Your model looks like it would end up about 18cm/7" tall. I'm not saying which size is better, just that you need to balance the leg size against the rest of the model. To give you an idea: my knight's legs are about 3x a 28mm IG; there' a few scale shots in the thread btw. Since your knight's legs are about 2x the size of a mini, your model will either be 2/3 of mine or very stocky in build. Will yours be Mars or Lucius Pattern? Looking at the legs I'm inclined to say Mars, but detailing can go a long way, and the body and shoulders will matter a lot there.

A quick note: I'd advice against straws since paint flakes off real easy, even after varnishing.

Cheers Khaine!

Thanks for the advice on the straws, will look into changing/ coating in PVA!

I subscribe to the school that says it should be smaller than a Warhound by a fair bit. I was aiming for around 6" or7", hence why it will look stocky Bearing in mind FW has pretty much already made an Knight (the Ork Mega-Dread, which is around 6".

As for pattern, curvy Lucius Dont have the skillz to pull of full Mars so a hybrid is the order of the day

Looking very good so far, and thanks for linking to my projects in your list

It is had not to get inspired when you look at the Hoff's work, he is my first inspiration, and the whole reason I started my AdMech in the first place.

I'll be following your log to see what you end up with of goodies

Thankyou tda! Of course yours would be on the list, so awesome! Btw, how do you manage to latch onto AdMech blogs so quickly??

And yes, The Hoff is a real master I wonder how many AdMech armies he inspired?

Made a bit more progress on the Knight, a bit of GS on the gaps and started on knee-guards and trime for the legs. Pics when there's pic-worthy progress!

I have developed a keen eye for tracking down fellow followers of the mighty Omnissiah Hehehe.
I think that all the armies/blogs on your list is somewhat influenced in some way by the Hoff's work, and I think we can consider us self the next generation in AdMech players/modellers and he is from the first generation (and still one of the greatest)

Thanks for the linking and your comments on my plog. Glad I played a small part in getting you back into the ad mech driving seat.

You have of course already mentioned the plogs that inspired me to create a plog (my heart was on mechanicus before I even came accross the mechancicus underworld on the net).

You stuff looks highly promising though, I particularly like the Solomon Lok conversion. I've got him kicking around for much the same reason, but seeing yours I might just dig him out again.

You painting skills are great also. I really like the grubby, oily industrial look to your models.

Keep it up.

Have you looked at the Rackham Dirz stuff? Great for Ad Mech possibly a little on the dark side but there you go. Any idea how your planning to do the Skitarii and Praetorians my instincts say wargames Factorys Greatcoats would be the way to go but I'm sure you've got your own ideas.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Lok is indeed a nice model, doest have many =I= on him either. Pics on your blog if you do please! Thankyou, not a fan of bright armies, GRIMDARK is the only way

Ive seen the Dirz stuff before, very nice but seems a bit too biological/steampunk for my tastes. Not a fan of the WGF greatcoats tbh, bit too soft on the sculpting. I plan to go down the FW DKK Grenadiers route, chopping and changing the heads much like Cerebralerebus above has done on his warseer plog (linked in 1st post). *Blatant Steal*

2 - Attemt to stick it all together in a semblence of a robot...

Tbh, not sure if i could do a tutorial, youll just have to be satisfied with lots of WiP pics. If you want a pic of anything in particular, let me know and ill take one.

What, no rivets? Sreiously, it's looking good if a bit stocky, but that's probably because yours is a tad shorter. Looking forward to it progresing!

@Khaine: Rivets, knew i was forgetting something I hate doing 'em but rest assured there will be a few on there!!

It looks stocky cause i started randomly building, then when i measured, the legs alone were 5" I either ad to build a 1" torso or cut the legs down a bit, guess which i went for Currently the legs stand at 3.5" (well 8 16ths of an inch at least). The main reaon i want it smaller is

A: My mate has 2 Ork Mega-Dreads, which are Fw Knights. They have CCWs that add to the damage table, battle cannons, 2 big shootas, they even have a 5+ invulnerable (can anyone say Power/Void field?? )

B: The club has two Warhounds, so if my knight was the same size it would look a bit stoopid

Im looking forwad to progression as well, trust me!

@Gits: Me too. Seriously this doesnt stand up to half the stuff ive seen on here! At least from my point of view anyway, maybe were all justover-critical of our own work? (Hmm, better stay away from philosphical open-ended questions, i dont want this thread to do a 'Gitsplitta' on me )

1) Gotta love rivets

2) If you look at the old epic pics, the knight is only a tad smaller but a lot more slender then the warhound. It all depends on your frame of reference I guess.

@ Khaine: Yeah, kinda just winging it tbh!!

So, i went to my mates house t'other day and he just happened to have sitting in a corner.........

........ONLY A BLOODY GARGANT!!!

It is totally awesome, and also completely out of the blue, god knows how long hes been keeping that project secret!! (i'll try and get some pics when i next see it)

As any Priest of the Cult Mechanicus will know, monstrosities like that cannot, and will not, be tolerated. This is especially true when said pile of effluence contains hallowed vessels of the Omnissiah, desecrated and defiled beyong recognition.

So i give you, the yet to be consecrated Wip of a WARLORD TITAN.

All hail the Omnissiah!!! May your devices and desires serve the God-Emperor until time runs its course!!!

I started today, hopefully should be mostly done by the end of next Sunday, parts permitting (one can dream! lol )

Auuggh! Another person who's actually started on the actual building of a warlord! And mine's still just on many pages of sketching! Well, warlord rant aside, which I think is awesome you've at least started in on it (I just have a bunch of diagrams; closest I got was starting a scale model of it to see how it would look, before it got all the crazy angles it's supposed to have now ). Otherwise, I congratulate you on mixing things up and changing from having an Ad Mech thread to having an Ad Mech thread with a different titles and more large beasts. But yes, an arms race is always appropriate. Always. Especially if it's to outdo the primitive flashiness of some ork contraption. Continue doing what you do! I wait...
