Hi All,
I just finished one of my trukk conversions. Please feel free to ask any questions about the conversions, give feedback, compliments, criticisms.
Im working on an Evil Sunz army, and I want alot of the vehicles to have that "Rad Rod"/"Mean Truck" kind look to them. Im on a shoe string budget so everything is made with very random things laying around and crafted with nothing more than glue, a few fine files, a razor blade knife and a lighter.
Ill keep posting to this thread with updates on build and painting. I think Im gonna do some warbuggies with rockets soon too. Hoping I can find some old airplane kits around and give them jet engines
Trukk Conversion 1
This is the completed one, built from scratch, using (I forgot the thickness) plexiglass, plasticard, and an assortment of random plastic/metal bits from random toys from around the house. The motor is from the "Big Foot" monster truck 1/24th scale model. The wheels are from toy monster trucks that I found at the flea market for a few dollars.
Still trying to work out what would be good materials to build exhaust pipes out of, I kinda wanted Big Rig style pipes (with the holes and the plates over them), but I'm having difficulty finding a good base circular pipe material that is easy to work with and will stand up to the punishment of gaming. Suggestions would be great. I dont have a drill either, so the holes would need to be able to be made with either files, needles, or a knife.
Trukk Conversion 2
The second trukk conversion is built from scratch from the same stuff, and the motor is from a 1/25 scale 55' chevy bel-air model that I had laying around (the model had a hood, so when you put it together you would never see the motor, so I saved it). Im waiting for a driver, a gunner, and a few other random bits to come in. I like to build each part of the conversions and models around what I have so that it all fits together well. Im not 100% sure how I want to body of this one to turn out yet, I would like to differentiate it from the first one quite a bit. I was thinking about making most of it look very tube frame like with patch-work body panels. If anybody has some good conversions they can link up here, that would be much appreciated for inspirational purposes.
This trukk conversion after primed is quite dirty still, alot of stuff seems to stick to it for some reason, I have found that the keyboard air cleaner things seem to get rid of that stuff really well, so Ill probably give it a whirl with that, then do another light coat of primer.
I tend to use black primer, because I actually like the color of it too as a base color, gets into all the cracks and crevices really well and can really give the trukk that greasy dirty nasty look. The pictures unfortunately have over emphasized some of the tones, such as the red is alot more orange in these pictures than it really is. A nice gloss wash over some of the engine areas really emphasizes that wet oily look too

Loving the Monster Trukk vibe you have got going here...

Ideally you would have plasticard tubes and a pin vice (small hand drill) - but if you could find some material with the holes already in it (some kind of mesh or filter) - you could wrap it in a tube - say around a pen or something...

I'll bite You can click through for larger images, or visit my project blog to see them being built. Happy to answer any questions.

I could probably find a list of other's I've used for inspiration too...

the thinnest plexiglass available from home-depot's window section. Its really hard to cut and deal with, but its very strong and can deal with alot of abuse. You really need to have a good razor blade knife, a strong arm, and some patience do use it, but the results are great, stands up much better for structural integrity.
Erector Toys (the models) is where I got some of the parts from, dont know which kit...
As for the axle and grey part with holes, and pretty much all the parts for that back end build are from some kit that I dont have the box for anymore from many years ago, you could probably find it in the toys aisle near like lego mindstorms, or the erector stuff. This kit was used for making a hover craft boat thing. Pretty intricate kit.
A few K'Nex parts were also used (for the first trucks shocks) though I didn't like that look so much, so I switched to what you see on the second trucks.

Top left is *almost* a standard Trukk. Top right is the Forgeworld enclosed cab Trukk (with mods). Bottom left is the Forgeworld Half Track Trukk (with mods) - so that is where the engine is from. The exhausts behind the driver/gunner are made from various thicknesses of plasticard tubing with added warbike/killa kan/deff dread exhausts. Bottom right is my latest WIP...
Thanks! That would be my "Avatar" style deffkopta. There is an earlier "Apache" style one too.

nearly finished painting this guy a few minutes ago...its amazing how much warhammer I can accomplish while sick. He still needs basing and the metal parts need some highlights, same with the brown parts of some of his clothes (particularly his back) and the longer wire to his claw could use some extra detailing/coloring to make it more interesting. Unfortunately I couldnt seem to open my chainmail paint, and am at a blank for what color to make some of the wires, I guess I just settled for ultramarine blue, probably gonna mix that with skull white 3-1 ratio and do some drybrushing over it for interest, I guess Ill probably do the same kinda ratio with white/scorched brown to highlight the brown areas that need it.
Im always open to feedback, critical or complimentary

Yellow and black hazard stripes on the odd wire always looks striking. You don't need to use GW branded green stuff Alternatively, some blu- tac covered in PVA glue or super glue may be an even cheaper alternative - thought not as hard-wearing...

Hi all,
So its been about 2 weeks or so since I last posted, Lots of good changes. Spring break was last week, so I got alot of time to work on some conversions then. I also found alot of my old warhammer units from when I was in High School, can anybody say boosted bitz box?!? I also got engaged, wow, been buisy...Anyways, You all are here to see some great conversions...I'll list out what I made and post pictures as I take them...
First:
Nob Biker with Scorcha Combi Weapon, Big Choppa and Cybork Body...
Probably my best conversion and paint job yet...
He was ALOT of fun to paint, I finally broke down and bought some new paints, mostly shining gold, hawk turqoise, and ice blue along with what I have decided is the magic ingredient to painting...Gryphonne Sepia Wash. Never tried using washes before, DAMN IT MADE HIM LOOK GOOD! This model actually looks pro painted, first one I have ever done that looks that good, gonna do the rest of the army like that now (minus the already painted ones). Sorry I dont have in progress photos of him. Ill take some in progress of the next one. I still have to figure out how to make a Waaagh Banner for him, I'm open to suggestions. He also needs a Dakka Gun (I used the one in the sprue to make his combi weapon) I was thinking I might just buy a few off ebay for a few bucks, Ill be needing them all anyways.
Second:
Update on second Trukk
This trukk is totally done, I found an old Carnifex head, so that got chained to the bumper, and I found an eldar jet bike, so that got tossed in the bed. Got a nice red paint job with some yellow/black hazard stripes on its ram. This one by far looks better than the first trukk. Only down side is, since I never bought a trukk, I didnt know how big they were supposed to be, so its about a quarter inch too tall, wide, and long...damn, so much for cover. The next one will have an inversed axle to bring the height down and smaller wheels to make it all look proportionally right...I think I found a decent toy monster trukk perfect for the looting at wal-mart.
Third:
Assorted Boyz Conversions
There are ALOT of conversions in this category from the past two weeks. 11 boyz with resculpted arms so that they can hold the shootas (and called them sluggaz). Im cheap so I bought a box of space ork boyz and a box of fantasy boyz and now Ive got 20 somethin boyz 2 nobz and my warboss. But to have slugga choppas, I needed to convert all the shootas into sluggaz, but I like the look of the big gun in one hand, so I resculpted the arms.
Oh, and I really liked the look of the boy in the codex who had a big shoota and was flying backwards, so I made him too.
Fourth:
Nob Power Klaw/Power Drill Conversion
In addition to that, since its two squads, I had to create a nob with a power klaw...well He got a giant power drill instead because I wasn't sure how to make a power klaw out of the materials on hand.
Also found a marine head laying around, so that got tossed onto a base and some guts added.
Wow, alot right, just think, I painted a bunch of the boyz too, but they got the quick and dirty paintjob, from now on its all pro style like my nob, he just looks too damn good.
So now for the pictures!!!! Ill try to have more later today or tomarrow.

Oh what the heck, I went ahead and took the pictures just now anyways so that I can post them and get some feedback.
Mind that ht eonly paints I had here was catchan green, goblin gren, ultramarine blue, scab red, blood red, and scorched brown, sunburst yellow and boltgun metal...ugh the selection sucked...all dark colors...and I was still kinda learning how to paint, so they were getting better as i went.
BTW, dont know what I want the bases to look like, Open to suggestions, Anyone know what looks good with a paint scheme like this?
Thanks for feedback, and there are no trade secrets here, so if you want in detail explanation on anything at all, feel free to ask.

Lookin good. Some of the boyz are a little rough round the edges, but the Nob biker you did very nicely. I also quite like your conversions.
Drilling the barrels with either a hobby drill or careful twisting of an exacto blade will make the guns in particular look better. Oh and watch out for those pesky mold lines!
As far as basing goes, you can do virtually anything. Youll prolly want to keep colors darker tho, so as not to draw away from the Evil Sunz theme ya have going.
Id suggest either an Urban rubble/cityfight theme (see my orks for reference) or a sort of muddy field sort of terrain (paint the base Scorched Brown, then highlight stone or whatever with lighter shades, like Scorched and Snakebite leather mixed together. You could even add a bit of flock or static grass to places to break up the monotony of bases.
Where do you get that chain thats on the back of the Hazard-Stripe trukk?

Hi Ramos,
Yeah, the first few boyz are REALLY rough around the edges, I just started learning how to paint miniatures, though I have done some sculpting before (not with green stuff though, mostly marble, stone and clay). Doin stuff on this small scale is a whole different game though. I might repaint most of the boyz after I finish up the unpainted ones I have first...
The chain on the back of the Yellow Hazard Striped Trukk is from A.C. Moore (the jewelry section), alternatively they have the same stuff at JoAnns Fabrics. Its made by a company called Blue Moon (not the beer...too bad though..)
They have a few variations of it, one is the typical link you see in fine jewelry, and the other (that I got) is the kind used for cheaper necklaces (it just looks more orky than the fancy kind). It comes in two sizes, I used the larger size for the carnifex head.
BTW, nice Orks! Automatically Appended Next Post: logg_frogg wrote:Looking pretty orktacular!

Plexi-glass From Homedepot's window section :-D That stuff is strong! Ive dropped a trukk and it just stayed together! Go Zap-a-Gap and plexiglass! I use plasticard for detail work though.

So quick update...
I ran a 650 pt game yesterday...Warboss completely geared up, 2 squads of boyz with the trukks, 3 nob bikers.
Went pretty well aside from getting beat. I was playing against the space wolves, and he was running a lone wolf that was just badass, it had a 3+ armor save and a 3+ invulnerable save...good lord. I wounded him once and I assaulted with my nob bikers (had 2 left at the time, one with a pk and the other with a big choppa), my warboss and a nob all on him and did not wound him again....Decided I should run a painboy in the squad of bikers.
The cool thing is my trukks being big was more of an advantage than disadvantage, they are quick, so 2 turns was up on him, and pretty much just used the trukks as cover (plus since they are lifted, I can hide boyz under it too and really just group them under/behind to hide from fire from some of his hard hitting weapons.
Also working on painting/converting the second bike...the third will be a painboy, which should be an interesting and fun conversion.

Wow, I've got alot to post up here since my last efforts. Well its dark now, so Ill take pictures in the morning and post tomarrow, but just for a verbal update of what is coming:
Nob Bikerz
4 built nob bikers (one being the pain boy), a few minor conversions in that set, mostly peg legs, a syringe some green stuff to get nobz to fit on the bikes, and a mechanicle arm, and a powerdrill throttle.
Burna Boyz:
3 painted burna boyz, 1 painted mek boy. (these guys turned out so good, that Im changing my painting style/scheme to fit them)
