one thing though (aside from the pilots, that has been covered) orks still breathe so you may want to give them some respirator heads or better still 50s style bubble helmets

Go for whatever you want, Orks don't have set colours. I can imagine most would be metal colored, try to go for darker metallics, rust here and there. Orks would probably scrap the thing together. You could then either go for painting it in tons of different colors which should the different parts, or simply go for a more uniform color. I prefer to paint Ork vehicles in dark metallic colors and then some dark red, green or yellow. Perhaps a shade of grey/blue could also be very cool.

Furthermore, I think this thing would rather be an airship rather than a space ship, in the 40k universe space ships are rather big, as in gigantic, small escorts are already a kilometer long in real life. Fighters are generally already the size of Boeing 747s so do the math.

Love the design of the ship by the way!

Brilliant job. I see some good use of Robogear parts in there, and an abolutely inspired choice of a nerf gun for the base model.

Can't wait to see this thing done and painted!

Two suggestions
1) Take a bit of time to really detail the inside of the cockpit. A well detailed opening cockpit would really be a brilliant finishing touch to this creation.

2) Head to the craft store and buy the smallest punch they have and start punching lots (hundreds) rivets out of drink container lids and other thin scrap plastic. I see quite a number of surfaces that need some orky riveting. The rivets will be a bit larger than standard rivets, but will look fine on a model of this size and add some nice surface texture. To apply easily, pour out some glue in a container, stick the rivet with your knife, dip the bottom in glue and press to the model.

Fabulous and hilarious in equal measure. Could do with a few grots clinging on for dear life maybe? Also, lots of goggles and scarves would be cool (eg from loota/burna set), in a Orky WWI flying ace kinda way.

Badassity.

Too small to be a ship you say? It's a nice size for an ork kil krooza, the ork landa is about the size of a thunderhawlk, ref. Gargant owners Big Mek Maha's guide in gargant constuction and repairs, and I guess that the kil krooza is about twice the size. Kil kroozas are mainly employed by warlords, flash gitz and freebooterz.
Nice work.
P.S. I forgot to say, big mek Mahas guide is using the old stompa size, it changed when gw made the mini.

Dude, you never played BFG did you? The fluff clearly states that cruiser sized ships are several kilometers long.

As you say, the Ork landa is about the size of a thunderhawk gunship. This ship probably is about the same size, or a bit smaller even. So do the math...
