That powerfist, was it part of the original model? It looks a lot like GW fists... Might be the pictures though.

I'm fairly sure that's the 'as supplied' "power fist" for the model.

The guys at Grindhouse/West Wind have really knocked it out of the park with the INCURSION miniatures!

Alpharius is correct ^_^. The fist comes with the mini and is actually a four fingered fist.

I really love the Incursion line by Grindhouse. They are a fantastic set of minis with tons of character. Case in point: Bomberzombies.

Got a good amount of work done on the APE over the last two shifts here at work! Tonight is a bit busy, but a lot of painting was happening this morning!

I'm still picking out details and finding other spots for freehands. A final set of photos to come as the model is finished up and varnished. Only about an hour left on this one, if that.

I believe Perry plastics are actually scale models (1:72?) which is why they look "weedier" than GW's models. 28mm Heroic models are out of proportion and scale on purpose.

Buddy thats your best mini yet if you ask me. You've really nailed the gritty and realistic style and those blends are lovely.

More pics from better angles please?

This one turned out lovely Grey Death, Particularly liking the subdued colours and the contrast of the blood. May use that at some point myself.

As CmDante said, very nice blending, it´s a technique I rarely have the patience for... Also, echo the need for more piccies and different angles.

Thanks guys! I had a lot of fun messing with washes and slow deliberate highlights/blending. The best part is I never used the same color to highlight every time I sat down, so I was constantly messing around with different colors. Blue and yellow made it onto the palette for a little while as I added a bit of variation akin to what military modelers do with oil paints.

Just the same progress with different angles. Photos aren't the greatest yet either, some of the subtleties are lost (better photos when I feel he's done), but you guys asked for them!

Hey all, just thought I'd post something since I'm sort of quiet on the painting front right now ( doing some traditional art stuff right now! ).

I have decided to try my hand at sculpting some to get used to green stuff. I just received a set of shapers yesterday and I have to say, if you don't have them for sculpting, GET THEM. They are like cheating when you're using them.

Just did some random stuff to a Catachan model I've had laying about for a while. Added a shoulderpad, a beard, some rips to the knees on his pants, and two skull symbols done in the style of other skulls on the mini. All in all, I'm getting the hang of the green stuff, so expect more tests with it in the future!

Check it out:

Add some wings to the icon, set another challenge for yourself since its good practice, what goals are you aiming for with the GS? and what are you going to use it for?

Gutteridge, I actually have been thinking today I will go about adding the wings to it. I decided not to mess with it last night as the skull was drying and didn't want to mess it up ^_-. I can easily see getting myself stuck in with multiple sculpting projects because of dry times >.>...

Overall my goal is just to learn the medium right now. Eventually I would love to do full free sculpts, but for now I'm happy doing conversion work. My goals right now are to create a Valkia conversion for my WoC as well as possibly do a Chaos Dragon conversion/sculpt from the High Elf dragon I picked up for my Best Fantasy Character win at BoLSCon ^_-.

Cool, we'll its good that you have set goals for yourself, maybe (i dunno about this, limited GS experience) plan your greenstuff projects so they won't interfer with the drying times, maybe just set mental deadlines like i have to finish X in a certain amount of time, organisation is key to sucess.

Keep on practicin on models you don't need anymore (like you have done with the catachan) is a great idea too (insaniak has great tutorials on how to do icons, chains etc, which would be perfect).

With your speed, i wouldn't be suprised to see those conversions in the matter of no time!.

Great stuff as I've already told you mate.

Gutteridge makes some good points. More organised people than myself can get more sculpting done in one session by working on multiple projects at once.

Also, practicing one old scrap models is actually a heck of a lot of fun. I regularly find myself working on figures I had previously hated, and really enjoying making them into something more preferable.

Round shapes are one well worth practicing. I still find making circular or half round surfaces one of the most challenging things to do!

Keep it up buddy!

Did you purchase the firm or soft tip shapers? Which would you recommend?

wyomingfox, I'm pretty sure I picked up the firm set, and they're perfect. Soft tips I'm sure have their use, but for green stuff, I couldn't see using them being all that helpful.

Hey all! Sorry for the hiatus! But now that the Dakka Painting Challenge has finally ended, I'm back to work on 'other' things.

To start me off, I've begun working on a commission for some Space Marine Drop Pods. The goal is to clean, assemble, and paint to base coats.

For assembly, I'm keeping the pods in three parts. A method brought to light by Realgenius. This is purely for the clients ability to continue paint a bit easier when he receives them.

I'll update with progress as it comes!

could be so the client could actually take full credit for painting the model?

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Could be because the client *ahem* is regionally displaced and unable to paint, but wants to make sure they completely fit in with the remainder of the Army.

Credit will always be given where due.

Another reason for segmenting, is I plan to make interchangable Deathwind components, and magnetize the normal weapons system.

Edited one time because Harvey said to be patient.

Deathwind pods look so awesome, if only the rules and the price of the fw kit was worth it!

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Just a bit of a 'progress report' for the Drop Pods Commission today. I've assembled another and was able to get both primed. One more to assemble tomorrow and while that's drying, I'll likely start painting the first Drop Pod to set the scheme.

And a little something extra: Space Marine Attack Bike!

This was going to be a second try for an entry for the Dakka Painting Challenge, but I ended up being sidetracked once I had it primed. But it is still on track for some paint. You might be asking, 'How is he going to paint it?', and to you I give only this hint.

Can't wait to break my paints out tomorrow.

Glad to see that the Sons if Medusa will be seeing a bit more paint soon... Seems like a long time coming.

That said, the temporary hiatus has been treating us all well... The subtle weathering and blending work you've done on that APE really shows off your military modeling knowledge... I've rarely seen the effect done so well without breaking into oil paints. Kudos!

Any plans to add companion pieces after your commision work and the sons?

Cheers!

Great drop pods. Is it cidadel chaos black spray you use? I need to pick up another can of that good stuff.

Its so important that you read a tutorial or something before assembling drop pods, they can be tricky. I'm so glad mine fits and works, but I know folks who've had to glue their doors shut. What a waste!
