Hi.
Took some time to get these done.

Loadout:
1) TL Heavy Bolter, TL lascannon in turret, Hurricane sponsons
2) TL multimelta, TL plasmacannon in turret, hurricane sponsons
3) TL assaultcannon in turret, Typhoon ML under wings.

Couldn't let that original turret be there, replaced with LR/Razorback turret. Tried to move the weapons a bit but returned to the original concept. The options given restrict it, where to place isn't mentioned and so the weapons may be fixed at:
A ) turret
B ) under wings
C ) in nose
D ) as sponsons under wings. ( predator sponsons would fit a horizontal wing config )

Design changes:
-The dread has now a place to stand on, and a link to the SR.
- wing config altered
- transport compartment enlarged

Just missing a few details at his rear.

Besides the weapons, did you use anything other than the original Storm Raven Kit?

I love them man, can you show us some WIP photos or some closeup shots please?

I'm personally not very fond of GW original design, I like modified versions and yours are some of the best I have seen...

@Manchu: if these pics had more detail, you could spot the chapter badge. Actually these will be red and black.

@whoadirty:

Used:
a turret (either LR or razorback), pieces from CoD ( 3 platforms, a lamp),2 doors of a Land Raider, heavyflamer of a dread, the sprues and plasticard, plastic putty. Anything else is from the original kit, only the air intake and the small servitor turret and its weapons aren't used.

@Capt. Rex:

I think I can add a few pics. Generally, the StormRaven has TL weapons and has to either put them in one place ( turret, nose ) or 2 single weapons under the wings. Didn't move the hurricane forward because it broadened it too much. But to forfeit the turret and mount those weapons under the wings would help a "flyer" design.

@Deathly Angel: the back is a CoD platform, parts of the stormravens rear landing gear, a CoD lamp and is the place of the transported dread. Will add magnets under the platform and the dreads base as in his feet too. Could do without as he stands pretty secure yet.
But on the base the dread may need the magnets to stay straight.

@PR03 + spireland: I'll go write as best as I can remember, which I should as N°3 isn't done yet, and add some pics too.

@ all: Thanks for your support. Thought I could contribute to the expected "save the StormRaven" threads, but I was too slow in Modelling for the few I could find and so I am on my own.

BTW, this StormRaven is able to carry the Dread.

My good sir, your masterpiece is the best Stormraven conversion I've ever seen!
It's like you saw each flaw and not only corrected it but improved everything!!

Would you be so kind as to explain to us mere mortals the work you've done to those wings in particular?

Very well executed! I love the modifcations to the base stormraven, much cleaner looking than GWs mish-mash looking model.

@M'Kachen's Nemesis:

The wings aren't changed, just their angle altered to horizontally.
Put some plastic between the mainthrusters and the "official" mounting place. The more you add, the more the wings move up.
The two plastic parts you had to glue in the setup from the manual, would be a flat surface but what i did had changed that. You don't see it because the hull is broadened and the mainthrusters are covered underneath now.

Like this:

@bullyboy76:
When I have magnetized the base, feet of the dreads and the platform. Also added a few details to the rear plating.
May take its time.

@nerdfest09: didn't stop, just had to wait for the turrets. And started other kits whilst waiting....

@Joyous_Oblivion: Thanks.

As requested, a step by step "how to".
Just remember I had some of these pieces in the bitz box, but they are not irreplacable.
I'll keep the pics in spoilers to speed up loading.

Step 1:
- prepare bitz.
Spoiler:

- the whole tail, the rear landing gear and the air intake find a new useage as plating, fins, arms to hold the dread, new tail.
I've cut them like you see in the pic above. Had to fit them in their new position, so its just a basic cut.

Step 2:
- build the basic hull and the wings as shown in the manual. Just don't attach wings or thrusters or the rear plate.
Spoiler:

- move the rear plate down. Now it is on a level with the floor and provides a rear ramp that may not be inaccessible if a dread is transported. Jumppackers for example could still drop from there. To support this rather weak piece, added parts of the sprues.
The sprues, thrown away often, may provide cheap plastic struts.
- covered the gap with plastic sprue ( a theme here..) but this could be done with plasticcard too. Had to fill the gaps with plastic putty.
- Replaced the tiny rhino doors with Land Raider doors. Bad enough the ramps are soo small....

Step 3:
- built the thrusters and mount them. The dread needs a bit more space, so move these thrusters out.
Spoiler:

- had to gain 1 cm for the dread.
- added a piece from the original tail as top plating to cover the vacant place of the air intake.

Step4:
- mount the wings.
Spoiler:

- enlarged CoD platforms as wing support and new hull plating.
- added these plates as wing support. Again plastic sprue used.

Step 5:
- enlarge the rear hull. Former air intake serves as hull plating.
Spoiler:

Isn't perfect but plastic sprue, plasticard and filler take care for the gaps.

Step 6:
- prepare comm and energy link ( SR to dread ).
- took a CoD lamp and a Dread's heavy flamer. Cut off the unneccessary parts and combine it like this:
Spoiler:

Step 7:
- the plastic pieces which are under the thrusters and were cut off, now get a new chance as tail.
- the rear is built up with plating, another CoD platform used. ( provides a hatch and details. ).
- Former landing gear added as arms to hold the dread. Would be a good idea to have a dread handy to locate the best place for these.
- Added energy/comm feed.
Spoiler:

The "mechanic" to link the dread to the storm raven aims to catch in the middle and betwen the dreds arms and body. The energy feed
should be added too, but he dread himnself has to have still to fit.

Step 8:
- add the front fins.
- fill any gaps left.
Spoiler:

The hulll prepared, next time we move on to add the weapons.

Step 9:

The loadout is :

- original hurricane sponsons ( slightly altered, a simple cut to enable them to fire in a 45° angle )
- Land Raider turrets ( 1 original TL lascannon, 1 converted TL las to TL plasma )

Moved the hurricanes under the wings to free the side hatches. Could see them placed above the front steering thrusters.
To convert a TL plasma is easy: Cut the lascannon barrels off, cut he "ammo" at the rear of the small plasmacannons off too,
combine both to a new weapon.

Step 10:

- magnetize the dread and the platform and the dreads base.

This makes a real transport possible ( instead of the originals "imagined" one ) and allows to place the dread later on its base.

Putting magnets beneath the surfaces:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In the pic above , the dread is hold by magnets only. And no, there is nothing wrong, as you can see in the window its not neccessary to rotate that pic....

Added 2 CoD lamps, to represent the field generators protecting the passenger.

Should be ready to paint after I filed down the last remnats of filler.

Didin't add a pic of the TL plasmacannon so here it is:

Certainly the front ramp isn't just badly construed on the stormraven kits I've bought?
Had to add a bit plastic to keep it from swinging to far inside....

I tend to fire my mouth off before I have a good think, by holistic I meant the way the look of the whole model flows together with that turret on.
