As the new Tk models started to appear online, i descided that i wanted to dust off the old army (after 8 years) and see if i could make something of it, that could be used in 8th. It was also a chance to have a reason to get the new models.

I have the necessary core troops, but missing the bigger things to make the army work well, so a sphinx was an easy choice.
But when i saw the model at the local GWshop, i figured i could also get a tomb giant out of the kit with a little extra work.

I'm not the best sculptur with green stuff. and to build something this big ( lower half of the model) seemed a little bit to much for me. How to solve this, well... i used a piller from the arcane ruins set as a plinth, just like many of those egyptian statues use as a seat.
And make it look like the colossus is just stepping of the thing.
with the extra foot provided in the sphinx kit i only needed to sculpt one foot and leg.

I used a modular movement tray to built a base for the thing, as i have enough space to work with and can lay a nice layer of sand in it when the model is done and ready to be painted.
I then split the piller to widen it enough so the whole model could cover it.

And this is how far i've come so far, the pillar is done. the body is almost done (some touch-up needs to be done) and the foot has been sculpted to a point that i'm satisfied with it.

I'll post more pics as i get further along with the build

Looks cool. I like the idea, and the execution is good. You might think about cutting off and resculpting the giants backside... that is, the way the body bends (to fit the sphinx) his hips look rolled forward, which isn't how I picture most giants getting up.

I'm deffinitly looking forward to seeing more of this thing come together.

I'm thinking about adding short lines of chain to the backside, like a chainmail skirt or something. That should cover his big butt.

Also been thinking about his weapons, don't want to give him the weaponblades the necrosphinx has.
Probably gonna give him a great weapon, don't think a giant bow suits the model.

I finished the chains on the bacside yesterday, but forgot to take pics because it was late.
Also started working on the great weapon. I've taken the blades from the necrosphinx and with a little cutting put them together like a great batleth (or whatever klingons call that thing).
I looks good, but still needs to be attached. I'll take some pics when i get home.

Started painting the colossus yesterday.
First coat is on, and sepia wash for the gold.
The pillar is done, i'm happy how it turned out, old style rock/stone is always hard to get right.

Going out with the wife and some friend today, so probably won't be able to finish it today, But will post pics when i'm further along.
Thanks for al the nice comments.

Looks pretty nice. I'm not a huge fan of the legs, but I completely understand that you felt that you couldn't do such extensive work to reshape them. Hell, I know I couldn't. Seriously cool, the idea of him standing up from a seat is awesome, and the painting is top notch too

Looks pretty cool.

I didn't think about making it built into a statue like that. Personally though, I like the face which comes in the kit more than the skull.

Most of the highlights have been done, all that needs to be done is the marble effect on the obsidian stone.

nope, just a regular colossus with great weapon. I have some ideas for a hiertitan, but i want to get a few games in first before i decide to build one.
