Damn shame I feel your pain, however the riveted plates are more in keeping with 40k plus adds to the battle damage look

haha... definitely one of those slight errors that actually turns out to add a lot more character to the model.. even at this early stage! IMHO the rivet panels look great! More please!

Good work on the shaping.

D'Oh! on sanding too far. Easily done. Great recovery though. That's the way to go with the flow.

Scale was decided by referring to some basic plans I found and then measuring it out with a plastic Catachan as a base reference

So... some progress finally this weekend - I think the pictures tell the story...

The detailing inside the cabin is awesome, and it's looking very smooth and hydrodynamic generally

Sorry tried 4 times to leave a reply damn day any way this is looking pretty nice indeed all the detail is there

The shape is pretty much spot on and the control panel is just full of stuff love the fact you have still got the drop in gunner port at the front

Truly awesome I just wish someone made a model in this scale I have troops in dying need of this

Twin linked Heavy stubbers now for the front gunner...

Just gets better the gun port is great from the twin stubbers to the seat, did you cut and shape the seat back or use a false nail

Nice progress on the attack boat. Stubbers look pretty cool and I like that the turret actually swivels.

Cheers Waaazag, a bit of movement on the model is always good I was going to have the stubbers moving but have run out of real earth magnets, so they are glued in place

Update - framework for the cabin awning - made out of 1.5mm wire bent to shape (which was a bugger to do..)

Now THAT'S a sweet boat!

Thanks LDD, yeah it was to get that frame to the okayish form you see. It's by no means perfect, but given the patched nature of the hull I think it will actually fit the aesthetics of the boat... at the moment it's just glued, but I did consider soldering and may still need to go that route as I'm not yet convinced it will say stuck...

Plans, are really just to see if I can build this boat. It will end up themed for a Catachan patrol and be heavy on the Dakka...

I feel your pain Rug, I've been using paperclip wire to make frames, guardrails and trophy/jerry can holders lately.

Well... actually... I checked and it's closer to 2.0mm
I'll have to get a picture, but basically I cut the wire into 16cm lengths then got a piece of MDF and cut out some forming guides. Using the guide (which are just grooves cut into the MDF) I then gradually bent the wire into shape using a ball peen hammer to help... All very time consuming and really not entirely satisfied with the outcome If I'm brutally honest (see below)

Thanks - the canvas - I have a plan for that (but see below...)

I looked it all over and in true Ruglud fashion, I ripped the wireframe off and dumped in the bottom of my bitz box. I'm going to experiment with different wire size; plastic rod; brass tube and dry spaghetti (last one is not true)...

watch this space...

WTF you ripped of the wire frame but it looked so cool well hands down to you for being a perfectionist but I honestly thought it was looking spot on.

Yep... when it's wrong, it's wrong... Wire was too thick and it was aligned badly. v2 now in progress with thinner copper wire from some 3-core mains wire...

I see your point if you ain't feeling it it ain't going to work, I have to say the jig is a clever self built aid very clever plus means all your angles match up and easier to shape the wire.

This is a really cool build I just wish I could pull this off as every time I look at my Tamiya Pibber boat I wish it was in 32mm scale

Anyway great stuff can't wait for the next update, mind you I am amazed your allowed to solder in the front room

Yah, new frame is an improvement indeed. A jig always helps for that sort of thing. The wire is much better for the scale of the boat. For the joints, did you file concavities into one side of the pieces to make things fit tighter? I ask because I see potential for many things in what you have there.

Do you have any of those pliers without teeth/serrations, the ones jewelers et al use? Ah, they are called round nose pliers? Also flat nose pliers? I have some ( they were part of a 20 piece set I got as a gift some years ago) Very useful for bending things.

Oh, the trick to straightening wires? Roll it between 2 blocks of wood, mangle press style. Works for finish nails too. If you did not know already.

The boat is looking sweet.

There will be a 'canvas' top on the frame, still toying with a couple of ideas / materials for doing that...

Yeah, the jig was the only way to go...

Ooh, you have the Tamiya model - nice... How long and wide is the hull. I did think about using that model rather than scratchbuild it but was cost prohibitive I thought...

As to soldering, the wife was out for the night so I went ahead... Just had to be careful and make sure the dining table was well protected

Thanks Red, not, the joints are just straight soldered with superglue over the top for added strength - no filing down on the copper, although is a good idea...

I'm just using standard DIY tools, nothing fancy but do plan on buying some so will look into jewellers tools I think, thanks for the tip.

Couple of techniques to straighten. Started with hammering , moved on to making a jig (long straight groove) and using pliers, ended up with using a drill and holding the other end with pliers then gently spinning the wire on a low torque setting - I reckon this last option is by far the best way - and quickest...

So on to the rear railing... Not soldered (as the wife was around) but stuck with superglue using yet another jig... Note;this wire was straightened using the drill method...

Boats coming along nicely, especially with the added wire work .
