Now, you might wonder why I have the Sarg in the Tactical Squads with chainswords instead of a power weapon or powerfist. This is because I want to keep the Tac Squads cheap, while still making the most out of Vulkans rules.

I think the vets are a little unnecessary. Maybe two combi-meltas and a heavy flamer or something. What are you going to need 10 combi-meltas for across two squads?

Also I think you should change the Razors to Rhinos. Vulkan lists are aggressive. Those suckers should be hussling to get into melta range and then firing from the top hatch.

I like the sternguard Vets, but maybe in drop pods instead of razorbacks? That much melta, you want to use them as surgical strikes to totally wipe a threat, and trade one of those combi-meltas for a meltagun just in case.

I was going to go with something along these lines:

HQ
Vulkan - 190pts

Elites:
5xTerminators with TH/SS - 200pts

2xDreadnoughts w/Heavy flamer, Multi-melta and drop pods - 300pts

Troops:
2x10 Marines w/Flamer, Multi-Melta in Rhinos - 410pts

Fast Attack:
2xSpeeders w/Multi-Meltas - 120pts

Heavy Support:
Land Raider Redeemer w/Multi-Melta, Extra Armor - 265pts

Total: 1485, 15pts left over to play with. I was thinking about dropping the extra armor and have 30 points left over to play with, which I could add a heavy flamer to each speeder and pick up melta bombs for the tac sgts.

Just my 2 cents, but I would get a pod for your dread or he's just a waist of points trying to get into Multi-melta range foot sloggin it!

The Sternguard should be 190pts and the tactical squads 205pt (transports included). The sternguard should be in rhinos (so they can shoot out), maybe swap 2 combi-meltas for a heavy flamer? (Further maximising on Vulcan's abilities). I'm abit worried by your lack of long range fire power/anti-tank capabilites (attack bikes, land speeders, dakka preds, riflemen, etc) and I'd either get a drop pod for the dread or ditch it as it will take it a long time to get into the action (especially with the rest of your list charging forward). Hope this helps.

IMO never take a Heavy flamer off a sternguard, if anything give them a couple combi flamers, never know when wounding on a 2+ will come up.

I like the list you have, however I agree with the Rhinos>Razors for the sternguard, that or 1xRhino 1xPod

That and no matter how I look at it, the Dread either needs a pod, or a weapon change

I think this list lacks anti-tank. The only real tank threat is the dread, but if your opponents go double land raider, your in trouble. I think Chaplain Pallentide's reconstructed version of your list is the way to go.

Can Vulkan lists combat squad? If not take more troops.

Why wouldn't they be able to?
Also, the reason why I have all those autocannons is because although SM are the most common overall at my FLGS, on the days that I go the most common vehicle are light vehicles. Not many tanks in general, and all those meltas should be able to take out any heavy armor I come across.

They can combat squad. All Vulkan does is makes flamers, heavy flamers, meltas, and multi-meltas twin linked (flamers re-roll to wound, meltas re-roll to hit), and he also makes TH's master-crafted (opponents who pass invul saves must re-roll).

Really? Huh. Will fix.

EDIT: Ok, fixed the second list I posted. Removed a multi-melta from a speeder, should be at 1500 points now.
But now I am unhappy, as because of my OCD, my 3 speeders are not the same :(

Well since you posted a link to this thread from the other...

You would be better off replacing all 3 speeders with 2 tml/speeders.

At that point, might as well replace vulkan with a libby and get another typhoon speeder.

This is my point about vulkan. He only really shines at 2k or higher point totals.

I understand your desire to build a vulkan list for 1500 pts. It's just not going to be as good as a vanilla marine list at that point total.

I understand. The problem is that I want to make at least a somewhat fluffy Salamanders list, and 1500 points is really the max because I will only get about 2 hours to play.

So, instead of 3 HF/MM speeders, get 2 Typhoon speeders? What exactly will that give me?

You want to have more armor saturation, so keep both Predators. However, drop Immolation because a Speeder with only a Heavy Flamer is not worth 50 points. Use those points to give your Preds HB sponsons.

Try that again. Master Crafting affords you the ability to reroll one roll to hit per guy. It doesn't do anything for invlun saves. Not quite sure where you got that bit.

I honestly think you are a bit light on troops. Even combat squading, you just don't have any to lose, especially in objective missions. Additionally, just making sure you know that Vulkan does not TL the Redeemer cannons. So the only reason you are bringing a redeemer is because of the fluff right?

Oh. Yeah, I did not know that about Master Crafted TH's.

And yeah, the only reason I have the Redeemer is because of fluff.

Just trying different things here.

Could you make a list for me? I do not know what I am doing.

Also, how useful would it be to take out the speeders and put in bikes? More or less useful, or about the same?

Ordinarily I'm not a fan of making lists for people but since you asked:

HQ-Vulkan. 190

Elites- Assault terminators (5 strong): 5 hammers. 200
Elites- Dreadnought: Multi-melta, drop pod. 140

Troops- Tactical Squad (10 strong): Meltagun, MM, Rhino. 210
Troops- Tactical Squad (10 strong): Meltagun, Missile Launcher, Rhino. 210
Troops- Tactical Squad (10 strong): Flamer, Lascannon, Rhino. 215

Heavy Support- Land Raider Redeemer: MM. 250
Heavy Support- Predator: Autocannon, Heavy Bolters. 85

1500 exactly. I tried to keep to your original ideas. Dread drops first turn, pops a tank. Everything is meched up, so you can push forward, armor front. The 2nd and 3rd squad should combat squad and leave the heavy weapons in the back field to fire, and hold objectives. Vulkan rides with the termies in the LRR, Pred is there mostly because I ran out of points, but also to provide more armor saturation. I personally prefer the Land Raider Crusader, but the Redeemer isn't bad either. This list isn't perfect, but should give you some inspiration to tweek it.

I think my problem when making my lists is that I was just trying to cram as many meltas and flamers into my list as I could.

Vulkan can be really powerful when tailored. QWhen you know you will be fighting hordes, all Flamer. When fight Mech or Nidzilla, all melta. But trying to take both leaves you with not enough to do either efficently. "A jack of all trades but master of none."

From what I have seen at my FLGS, mech or MEQ armies seem to be the most common. The only "horde" army that I saw recently was Daemons. Think I should go more melta because of that?

I would say yes due to the prevalence of mech in 5E.

I would say a 2:1 ratio of Melta: flamers.
