London.

Howdy folks, this is the start of my plog to try to hoof me into gear and get some converting and painting done.

I'll be working on 2 warbands in Inquisimunda style, my scavvy gang themed on a famous novel and later updating the convertions and painting of 2 old armies: Green Knights and Eldar based Genestealer Cult.

I don't play anymore, except for a Warhammer Quest game I'm running and the odd game of Bloodbowl, so there's no deadlines to meet just the fun of seeing characters start to form as I throw bits of plastic at blobs of glue.

I've begun work on the first warband with a conversion of the fantastic Nurgle Chaos Lord sculpted by Brian Nelson. Early wip at the moment but I think I'm fairly happy with how it's going.

Lots still to do including adding chins, giving his right hand a mitten (mainly because I like the word and the thought of this huge guy being told to wrap up warm incase he gets a cold) , gaps, pipes and some iconography. I'm aiming to give him a steampunk style weapon and backpack and try desperately hard not to be overly influenced by the other amazing conversions I've seen of this model so far.

Narrowly avoided disaster with this dude tonight, I'd set him up to take a few pictures and he took a nose dive onto the kitchen floor. His fist weapon - the cut down Nurgle Lord's axe -snapped and flew off to my right. After 30 minutes of crawling around on my hands and knees whilst swearing I found said weapon hiding waaay over to my left behind the kitchen door! The warp is strong in this one.

Hope you enjoy, please feel free to muse and abuse, I'd rather cut chunks off him than end up with something that looks goofy so C&C at your pleasure.

Cheers.

Oh, I like that. I like his "old man" profile, and I'd like to suggest not giving him a double chin. You know, people do put on weight differently, and I think if you gave this guy an old person turkey neck that would be better fitting on that head, and it would make your conversion stand out a bit more from the other versions of this guy.

The backpack and weapons choices are looking great so far. The GS work on his body looks great, too.

Thanks a lot. Yeah I think you're right, I am quite keen on the head the way it is so I think I'll take your advice and blend the neck in without bulking the face up if possible. See if I can give this guy a turkey for christmas.

I'm done with the big guy for now. There's loads more I could do but I want to move on, I don't want to make him too fancy as I'll save that for more "important" characters.

So with him primed there's just a few small gaps and mistakes to fix and a little joining work to do between his gun and backpack as both will be painted seperately to the main model.Oh and I forgot his nipples! How could I.
Here's the primed pics:

and a side project, my friend has asked me to paint this Soda pop mini so he can give it to someone as a gift:

Thanks for looking. I'm actually looking forward to painting the big guy now, unusual for me as I don't really enjoy painting that much. I've got the bits to make a wet pallette so I'll be giving that a try.
Between painting these 2 I'll be working on my next idea instead of finishing off what I should be doing. That's the biggest problem with the Warhammer hobby, there's just so many cool things to make. Next up - a truescale chaos marine diorama...thing...maybe.

Thanks a lot

Almost finished painting him now, of course as soon as you take photos you see lots of mistakes and areas that need attention. Still need to dirty-up the discs at his belt and his boots ( I was holding them to paint) and there's a few bits I don't like but he's nearly there. After the touch ups it's on to his weapon and backpack.

I'm pretty happy with how it's going so far, you wouldn't think so if you'd seen how many times I've dropped him on the floor though! I know I'm not a great painter so as always any tips would be most welcome.

Cheers again for looking.

can you tell us how you did the skin and Tattoo?

London.

Yep, the skin is a base coat of GW's Dheneb Stone - as recommended by endtransmission, with a wash of Devlan mud. I then mixed in a little elf flesh here and there, highlighted by mixing white and finally used some Devlan Mud to reapply the shadows as it was lacking some contrast. It looks a little pinker in real life but it's not far off.

The tattoo was Chaos Black mixed with Ultramarines Blue and just painted on with a fine detail brush. Keeping the skin colour fairly simple means you can go back and neaten up the tattoo with Dheneb Stone afterwards, you don't have to be so precise.

As painting isn't my favourite part of the hobby I only own 23 paints so I pretty much just mix them up until I get the colour I'm after. It's a bit of a pain if you need to remember how you made it a couple of painting sessions later but the wet pallette is helping with that one.

Looking good. The one detail I'd like to recommend is to ad a red symbol to the three discs on his loin chains. Even an embellished diagonal line would do it for me. Unless you mean him to be a tainted agent... a traitor. The shoulder pad =][= emblem looks great as do the scrolls on the seals. Great "text".

Another great conversion of this figure! The tattoo really brings the whole thing together. May I suggest a very bright colour for some parts of the gun, perhaps yellow if you feel up to it! I think it would really make the model pop out.

Wow! Great!

I think, it's time for me to buy the fat nurgle guy, too. He's predestinated for an I-munda conversion.

Very quickly because I have to go to work. The brute looks cool, great choice of head and I really like the wrist blade. The colour scheme you've gone for looks good too. As for the tribal tats ace.

The Good Green - Thanks. He is part of a renegade warband but they'll retain the armour and icons of the =][= after all if it gets you unquestioned access to almost anywhere why would you change it until your evil plan had almost reached fruition. Once the gun is added you only really see 1 disc so it doesn't look like the but I'll keep it in mind.

Commander Cain - Thank you. I was planning to paint the weapon in a steampunk style - gold with copper pipes but now the big guy is done I agree it might not be a strong enough colour scheme. I like the idea of yellow, kind of like a chainsaw casing. Hmmmm....I'll have another think about this one.

Logan - Isn't he just. It's a beautiful sculpt to start with, very different from most of the GW ranges. I look forward to seeing what you create, judging by your previous work it should look amazing.

PDH - Cheers, as soon as I opened the packaging I knew I wanted to use the axe head in some way. The head was previously nailed to the front of a dreadnought as a trophy with a much swirlier chaotic tattoo. Once I cut off the horns and stripped the paint I just kept seeing it with the tattoo and that large expanse of flesh cried out for some freehand.

BloodGenisis - Thanks, this guys main task is "blowing people away" so I'm glad he's achieving that even before his first game. I haven't thought of a name for him yet but it seems he'll always be affectionately termed - The fat dude.

Hey Rabies, just found this little blog of yours and I've got to say, what a start!
To be honest with you, when I saw the first set of pics of the fatty I thought "Holy Emperor, not another one, and a bad one that is. PDH and Migs did it, a couple other guys too and here goes another one...baaah!"
Well, it turns out it was merely a wip (that's what one gets for not reading thoroughly) and everything went well in the end. I'm glad you managed to prove my first impression to be so tremendously wrong and produced another version of this big canvas of a miniature.
Great job!
And I still can't believe how you turned around everything that sucked about it in the first pics by a 180°...
I'm still meaning to make my own version of this guy, he's waiting on my shelf already, but first back to painting old stuff...

Scarper: "That is incredibly detailed...shows an attention to detail that goes beyond anyone you'll fight."
The Good Green: "Ok, That is incredible. Such attention to detail... I'm convinced you would benefit from a straight jacket ;~P Thanks for raising the bar."
PDH: "Yeah Bloody Baiyuan's Bloody eye for detail . Bet he doesn't sig that one"
PDH: "I'm not saying anything that you might sig against me. Made that mistake before!"
PDH: "Thanks for joining Dakka and spoiling us with your work. "

Back after a "short" break!

I still need to finish painting the big guy but for the moment I have decided to concentrate on getting some building done.

The Fat Dude belongs to a renegade =][= group that I have ideas for but nothing finalized yet. While I ponder on that I've also started on an Ordo Hereticus group.

First up is an old Chaos Warrior from 1985. I really like the model and I'm reluctant to change too much, I'm thinking she will be an Interrogator/ Inquisitor.

I'm thinking the face mask may be too bestial/mutant looking for a Hereticus even though it would help with intimidating the general population.

I wanted a sword bearer to accompany her and started with this

and although I like him it's not quite dark enough for this particular character. So I threw together a Scabbard Servitor made from her favorite Heretic.

Green stuff ahoy!

While digging through the bits pit I found an old Eldar Knight that was miscast with a production date that reads as 1e8e instead of 1989.

Hmmm, I thought to myself, I wonder if this could be one of those things that's worth loads of money like misprinted stamps etc.

With that in mind I set about cutting it into bits anyway!

My plan is to make a character inspired by various illustrations by Mr. Blanche.

Here's where I'm at so far.

It's hard to get the two parts to match up because I'm keeping the head separate for painting but you can see where it's heading.
There's some cleaning up to do and of course some sculpting on the arm but what else?
Anything look completely off or need adding while I'm still at the "it's not too late to chop bits off" stage.
