Hello everyone,

As some may know I have started a small army of grey knights...but unfortunately I have decided...after spending a few painstaking hours on my ven dred...that I hate the silver paint scheme :/

I was wondering if anyone out there could help me in coming up with a new one.

I will be pretty much writing my own fluff, but using the GK codex and rules.

The army is based around the worship of the "Grey Dragon"...a prophesied manifestation of the emperor...So I guess grey is a must have somewhere on the models.

Anything ideas are welcome though ^^

Thank you in advance to any and all who help,

just use a dark grey instead of a silver for the armour maybe?

I've seen grey armor, gold armor (which looks quite good), red armor and white armor (mainly on purifier type lists though). You can also go with the traditional metallic and change the heraldry colors from red and white to something else. This is what I have done, going with purple and gold.

You could switch the heraldry to the majority, making their armor most red and white while having silver on much of their decoration stuff.

Check out my little ork story I am working on here!

I use an Ice Blue metallic paint from Folk Art, then use a blue ink wash to fill the crevaces.

I like the idea of red armour...but I'm not sure what the grey would look like with it...plus my highlighting isn't too good...and I know highlighting red looks good if done well, and horrible if done badly :/

I've seen a good amount of darkish grey Grey Knights. I think Adeptus Battle Grey as a base works well.

Of course, you can do any colors you want, as they are your models.

I always thought Grey Knights would look good either Deathwing Style, ala Bone White, or Russian style, the brown/green khaki color with red trim.

This will sound absurd to most of you, but since Grey Knights sounds almost like Gay Knights, I always thought a gay pride themed grey knight army would look pretty cool. Alas, I am a bit colorblind and utterly terrible at painting freehand, so painting the rainbow flag from the LGBT movement on each model would end up looking terrible.

Anyway, the point is, again, any colors you like, as they are your models. If you plan on taking them to tournaments with the goal of winning a painting award some schemes may be out, painting them blue like ultramarines for example. Otherwise, do whatever the heck you want to. I guy I know almost painting his Space Wolves bright silver, just because he loves silver so much.

Probably work

I don't do silver on my vehicles; i don't think it's a good color for flat surfaces. Instead, my vehicles are grey, white, or offwhite. Here's a few of my alternate schemes:

Blue on Grey Knights actually looks really good. I did mine up with Mithril silver washed in Asurmen Blue and the color is amazing.

Orkses is never beated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die so it don't count as beat. If we runs for it we don't die neither, so we can always come back for anuvver go, see!

I like the off-white colour allot...How do you get that colour?

At the moment I'm thinking of using red as my main colour, with heraldry in that off-white colour?

Anyone think that would work?

The off-white I have on the first dreadnought and the dreadknight is actually black built up to deneb stone over a few thin layers, with edges highlighted with bleached bone and then a VERY light white on top of that.

My only concern with red as a primary is that you might come off looking too much like Blood Angels. You might be able to pull it off though. The sides of my Land Raider are red, and it looks quite nice. I think the darker of a red you use, the better the chance you'll be able to get away with it, but that's just me. I wouldn't go off my recommendation alone.

I would happily continue to paint my GK's silver...if I knew of a way of making it look good with my mediocre painting abilities, but atm all I'm doing is washing mithril silver with badab black.

I suppose The grey could work...maybe build up from adeptus battle grey to codex grey or fortress grey with various attempts at highlights?

What do you guys think?
