hello, today i am starting my second ork army. urban based deathskullz. these guys will be the arch enemies of my death korps of krieg!!!!!
please visit my blog to see pics of past projects...this is is my first dakka project log

Automatically Appended Next Post:
plan of attack is as follows:

60 boyz: 2 squads of 30, nob power claw boss pole march up centre of table protected by mek with kff
burna boyz in trukk supported by nob bikers. trukk rocks up, drops the flamer templates and then the nob bikkers (who have been in escort) assault the unit to wipe them out
nobz mob lurk behind the boyz mobs for protection and then pounce!

should be enough for 1000 points

any comments?

s

ps
well aware that the pic is hort of 40 boys (hopefully buying these with my next pay packet)

Thanks for the good luck!

will start off with a good solid core of boyz and a few 'specials' (nobs / burnas etc). when these are painted i will move onto the more interesting stuff, i would love to have three deff dreads and nine kans but its just the money!!!!!

i hope to get this ork army completed fairly quickly (god bless army painter) and then move onto my death korps of krieg army (girlfriend still not speaking to me after splurging nearly £300 on forge world goodness)

i need criticism and advice on how to paint death skullz!

reinforcements arrived today in the form of 40 ork boyz of off ebay...very well assembled and for £50 not a bad deal at all! will assemble the warbikers tonight / tomorrow morning and then start the task of undercoating next week in the evenings (hopefully when the weather is a little warmer!)

1000 point list will be something like:

mek
kff 85

30 boyz
nob
boss pole
power klaw
big shoota
big shoota
rokkit 240

30 boyz
nob
boss pole
power klaw
big shoota
big shoota
rokkit 240

6 nobz
1. power klaw
twin shoota
2. power klaw
3. kombi scorcha
4. kombi rokkit
5. bosspole
6. big choppa
twin shoota 200

trukk

4 burnas + 1 mek 75

4 lootas + 1 mek 75

3 warbikers
nob 85

what do you guys think?

boyz march forwards under the protection of the kff. the nobs will stay close behind ready to pounce on any 'vulnerable' units. burna boyz steal the nobz dedicated trukk and blast down a flank covered by the warbikes dust cloud to make some caught out fools do the burny dance!

Nice work I have a similar project on the sidelines hehe

So far only 45 boyz, 5 lootas, 5 burnas, 10 nobz, deffkoptas and a warboss. I'm refusing to buy any fun toys for them untill theyre all painted up haha, which is slow going as im working on skaven at the moment!

I like them but they don't scream Deffskull to me. Painting that many Boyz production line style would drive me nuts, so props for that.

I can't wait to see more but keep posting your photos here, me and many many others can't be arsed to click links

I think that they are a little under blue for deathskulls. i am liking the tatoo mark on the face but it does'nt seem like enough blue for an entire boy, maybe on the others or/and this one add some to the gun or the trinkets on the models? just a surgestion and subscribed

Hahah blue moustache!
You could paint blue cloth to tie it together and help the blue stand out, but I think it'll be ok without it as well

this was my first test model. i dont like the browny red clothing but the skin is what the majority of the boys will hopefully look like

Just using basic colour wheel I think you should change the red-brown to a more yellowy/orange brown

http://willkempartschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/colourwheel01.gif
(Tryed to img code it but it didnt like it ;'( )

The shade you have on the legs at the moment would compliment a greener shade more than blue, Im thinking something a bit more toward sandy oranges.

Another way to balance it out could be to make the green of the orks skin might brighter yellow-green... both ways I think something needs to go towards yellow to balance that really rich blue. The blue looks awesome though, just wants something to set it off

Quick update gents

Ive spent the last two days on a training course for work....some highlights, a night on my own in a hotel last night and a very early finish today. The net result is that all the skin is painted on my orks!

very simple process:

orkhide foundation basecoat
p3 wurm green coat
thakara green wash

yes, its not the most complex / perfect process but there are alot of orks! the production line method is paying dividence as each stage is coming together very quickly. each painting session is a little dull but the satisfaction when the session is over is good as you are always a clear step closer to getting the litter critters on the table fully painted (as in my opinion all armies should be...even if its 3 coats up and a quick dip!)

should i add this lava type base to my ork army...fiancee seems to think its a good idea...im not sure for two reasons 1. the effort required! 2. these death skullls are to be the arch rivals of my future death korps of krieg army...and im definately not ruining the forge world ( expensive) goodness with orange lava!!!!!

advice guys?

Normally I'd be all for domestic bliss and pretty bases but it's your army and if it seems to much effort now then it'll definitely seem it after Lad number 100

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

nice paintjobs! I like how the blue turned out. Im still struggling myself with that color.

suggestions for the bases (in case you still haven't decided yet): put some scrap metal or used ammo clips onto the bases of your nobz etc. and leave the boys with sand/stones whatever the surface of your planet is. since you play deathskullz, all things ready to loot are a cool idea, too! i coverted a AOBR nob as you can see in the picture.

another advice is to paint the edges of the bases in different colors so that your opponents can distinguish the mobs easiser in case you have to mix them up a little in order to fit them somewhere behind cover or so. i found out that this is really appreciated by other players as some don't even seem to notice the difference beteween shoota and slugga boyz they just look at the ridiculous amount of models and always ask which boy belongs to which mob so it earns some fairness-points, too

Brilliant green, the blue tatttos are really good. The only thing i would say is that the power fist/power klaw looks way to small for the ork, it almost looks like he is wearing a large glove rather than something dangerous. Other than that keep up the good work

My progress on this project has been painfully slow. However, I have become a chartered civil engineer recently so I do not feel too bad about sacrificing my death skulls.

Anyway, with my professional qualification assured it is time to blow the dust of my brushes and get the little buggers finished! Below is what a pic of what I'm faced with.........these critters have been on my desk for a very long time so I will be sacrificing detail for much needed speed!

Cheers arakasi!!!!!

This morning I got my five flamer boys complete. Very simple painting (kinda going back a few years really) layer, wash, highlight.....but with the metallic weapons and blue tones on the skin they actually look quite cool (at arms length in my opinion anyway!) ill post pics later when they are based up.

If anyone is interested in past projects please visit my blog "young professional surely not".....not strictly wargaming....also contains a lot of my bitching.
