Hello chums!

Well, I was banned from OT and thus was unable to take part in any epic, 6 hour, 400 post debates about why a video of a piano playing cat on youtube is actually analogous to everything that is wrong with the world, and why it was being vehemently anti-semetic as it played, so I had plenty of time to get the paintbrush and the camera out!

The terrain if anyone is interested is from the Kickstarter campaign that some of you may have seen advertised on dakka (thats where I saw the link) by a guy who wanted to make rubber terrain, and I have to plug his stuff, it came painted as is, and its great stuff and an excellent product, and no he didn't pay me to say that. (But he did wash my car, mend my fence and put some shelves up in my conservatory)

Here it is then.. Sternguard, Termies with a heavy flamer, Some devs with a stripey wearing his sigum, some eternally retired Vanguard Veterans due to old age, hip replacements and a ridiculous points cost, and my command squad, consisting of everyones favourite arrogant narcissist, a hen pecked apothecary, and the honour guard from Calgars box.

Marneus is still half painted, due to him being ridiculously difficult to paint, and ridiculously overcosted on the table!

Not at all - it's competent, well executed, with a good eye for colour and detail. Hell, you have finished models which beats most wargamers hands down

Absolutely well done!

More painting showcases from mattyrm and perhaps limit OT Postings to blasting with one barrel as opposed to both?

Good stuff!

Wow, I'm pleased with all the chuck up's, thanks for that.

I have no skill for any of the stuff in the "how to paint space marines" book was my point, (blending and such) and I'm poor at free hand. So its all just hard work and patience over skill. Just transfers and taking the time to go over all the mistakes with the correct colour.

Oh and then redoing loads of UM blue after my nightmarish highlights cover half the Marines helmets and knee's in codex grey.

The Honour guard took me bloody ages for example!

And yeah Leo, the combi weapons are indeed from Chapterhouse, I bought 12 when I was over in CA and brought them back. Great idea, although, way less pretty than the actual GW combi-weapons.

But beggars cant be choosy eh?

Actually they look very close to the Sternguard special ones. The Combi-melta might be a tad bit off but it gives you the ability to swap the weapons around with magnets. I am getting mine in the mail soon. We will see how much my painting can fix them up.

Aye they are decent, the only issue with the melta is its a bit too small, and I think the flamer doesn't look as good as the big fat one that GW do. But as I said, the people at GW have no sense, if they sold their CWs in packs of 5 I would lap them up, but as it stands CW is easily the best option I've seen to date. Being able to swap your weapons out is great!

Oh and a word of warning, make sure you marry up all your magnets before glueing, I put a few facing the wrong way around.

And get yourself a really small drill, because the premade holes are not deep enough for the magnets.

Crisp work that. Your models make me remember why I've always wanted an Ultramarines army. I'd suggest a bit of static grass on the bases to really polish these guys. Have you done any vehicles yet?

How are you painting and then highlighting the white?

It looks really nice, and it is a color that is usually VERY hard to pull off that well...

Thanks mate! I kinda cuffed the technique to be honest.

I've gotten better at it lately though. If you notice some of the VV i just used a 0.1 thin black pen to draw around the seals.

The newer ones (SG) for example I've gotten pretty good. I paint them with thinned down white maybe 50/50 with water (takes at least 3/4 layers, and It's vellejo paint not skull white) and then I splodge loads of badab black ink on their helmets and shoulders and such, as I found it didn't make any difference if I tried to be neat cos I got it all over anyway!

Then I just use a very thin brush, with some white and a tiny bit of water (say 90/10) and basically paint over all the areas that now have a gakky little smudge of black over them. It takes very little time really, and it works easily with other colours too. I basically just cover stuff in the washes and then use the base colour on a little brush to paint over the left over (dry) wash ink that's left over. They are really easy to paint over.

I have to say, the GW washes are mint like. I'm working on some AOW dwarves and splodging loads of gryphonne sepia all over the bare flesh of the berserkers and then touching them up with the flesh colour makes them look spot on as well.

Very nice figures, also cool to finally see your stuff. I follow a lot fo the threads in OT even if I don't post, and I've seen your views on a great many things, and also seen enough of your posts to know you had models somewhere at home.

So yeah, cheers for sharing your work, always wondered what it'd look like and I have to say I'm very impressed.

Next we just need to convince Cannerus to post his stuff.

I agree that they're nice, and the white in particular is impressive. Because it's Matty, and he appreciates frankness, in the spirit of constructive criticism I will opine that the bases are a bit crap. The flat plastic surface on the top with larger pebbles is not working. A bit of water & PVA and some finer sand coating the top can fix this really easily, though. I agree that a little static grass (in addition to finishing covering the tops) would make the bases really nice, giving a little living contrast to the stony grey.

Indeed I do!

Yeah the bases on some of them suck, the Honour guard were actually some of the first models I painted and based, and I just painted it all grey and glued some fat rocks on, but I started doing what you said and using smaller powdery rocks first, then using bigger ones, then putting some black wash on for the base of the stones and then highlighting the top with white. As you can see, the bases on some are better than others..

I just cant be arsed to go back and change all the old ones! But Ill get round to it eventually..

Well done, matty.

The brush control is good (painting between the lines) and the colors go well together. Very cohesive force. The only recommendation I could make would be to add washes to your skills. For example, a wash on the power fists, followed by edge highlighting, would give them a lot more depth.

Thanks for sharing, man.

Cheers mate, that's a good recommendation I could have used a few months back because I'm just learning how to use washes now, Im slowly getting the hang of it, and Ill show you my AOW dwarf berserkers when I finish them because covering a slab of flesh with gryphone sepia has just made them really look awesome.

If you wait long enough someone will usually come along and say exactly what you wanted to say to that person you wanted to tell off and save you the spanking.

Of course, since that person that I wait around for is generally you, I may have to take a break from the OT myself.
