After much umming and ahhing over night, I've decided to move the Infinity stuff out of the Re-learning to paint thread as these aren't for practising different techniques on, these are for a specific purpose. Besides which... we need more Infinity blogs in the P&M section
Before seeing my first Infinity figure I never thought detail could be this subtle, or graceful on a model no more than 32mm tall. Upon seeing them I was impressed... having just started to paint them I can safely say they are insane. I think this project may cause me to go blind... or seriously improve my brush control. One or the other.
As a fan of Ghost in the Shell, what better force could I start with than Aleph? The general theme for the official paint schemes for these seems to be cream/grey/purple. I don't get to paint white or purple too often in my Guard force, so I decided to stick to this. I'm currently alternating between a Sophotect and an Asuras. Apologies for the lighting quality.. these were just quick snaps to get the thread rolling

While watching the awesome Cowboys Vs Aliens I finished the Sophotect *TaDa!*
[photo removed due to it being... rubbish!] Better one in the next post until I sort out the lights for the lightbox properly!]
Not the best photo in the world, but the lightbox isn't set up at the moment so it will have to do for now. It took about 5 rounds of "It's finished!, let's take some photos" before I stopped noticing rough blends, chips or white spots I'd missed. There are still bits I'm not 100% happy with that I might go back and revisit later, but I don't want to do any more work on her just yet.
I've also started trying to dill pin holes for all the Myrmidon arms... Dear god my drill bit is blunt! On Saturday I need to pay a visit to a hardware store for the smallest drillbit I can find so it doesn't take half an hour to drill two holes a couple of mm deep :/
I've got some work to do as I've got another game in a couple of weeks time and want to play it without having to use stand-ins.
[update]Geeze that photo is bad on my work monitor! The colours are all bleached out... looks fine on my laptop screen :([/update]

I've spent the last few nights adding a few touches to the Sophotect as well as pinning the rest of my Aleph troops together.
Thanks to a nice sunny afternoon I've got a few snaps to show how they are coming together. I've a couple of nicer shots of the Sophotect and Asuras too
Next up we've got the Myrmidons coming together after much pinning
This one needs some green stuff to fix his shoulder as the miliput doesn't seem to have quite the same consistency.
The fourth Myrmidon that you get in the box has a really odd combination of dagger and open palm hand, which I really didn't like. Also... not that useful when he then doesn't have a rifle modelled onto him, which seems a bit odd given that there isn't a Myrmidon without a rifle in the army lists. Thankfully the Myrmidon Officer model comes with a spare rifle arm... so some hacking later I've got this far
Tonight I need to try and green stuff him a hand in there to hold the rifle. The dagger arm still looks odd, but at least he doesn't have that odd crossed arm thing going on any more. I'd forgotten the pain of converting metal figures...
The thing I've noticed while photographing these guys is that the camera can make the models look really bad, really easily if you choose the wrong angle.
I've been in London today for a meeting with our of our business partners and... may have come home via Dark Sphere. The bank manager can sigh a big sigh of relief though as they are apparently having a really hard time getting hold of Infinity at the moment... stock is slow coming through from Spain when they do direct orders and the UK distribution chain is out of stock of most things. I had planned for more Aleph, but they only had 1 blister of Dakini... so I may have just started Shasvastii as well. Ooops!
They didn't have most of what I wanted for these guys either. I also realised when I was on the way home that I didn't actually mean to buy the second Shrouded. I'd forgotten there was one in the box. Doh! Still. I'm going to try and convert it into something else and see what it looks like. I thought the Aleph had been fiddly... it seems I ain't seen nothin' yet. Some of the Shasvastii models have pieces so small I thought they were bits of flash! I'm not sure I'm gong to be able to get them to stick as the superglue I currently have is very slow to dry... the bits will just drop off or get stuck to my fingers :/

I like what you're going for, and your blending is very nice. I feel like the Sophotect is just too white. She's bright enough to seem as though she's washed out. She might look different when you're holding her in your hand, but the color variation is so soft and subtle it's hard to get all the distinct lines of her model.
I think the Asura is certainly stronger on the color front. The hex armor on the legs and hips looks good and stands out, and the striping down her legs looks great! She's one of my favorite Aleph sculpts, so I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with her.
Cheers chief! Keep painting!

Thanks. The shading on the Sophotect does stand out more in person. Hopefully it'll be clearer when I get the lightbox up and running... I seem to be trading one insufficient photo for another at the moment
The hex armour on the Asura only has the base coat so far, so it'll become more defined with some highlights.

Thanks. It's great to be able to have the freedom to spend ages on one model without worrying about the other 50+ figures to finish a playable force

Doooo iiiiiit! You know you want to
The Asuras is now finished as well, but I need to get decent pictures of her. The new lights I bought over the weekend didn't quite cut it :/
On a different note, I had four of the tiny shoulder plates left over from the Krieg engineer squad. These fitted nicely and covered up the bad join on the Myrmidon shoulders.
I've also started to paint the Myrmidon Lt (pics tonight before I strip the paint). I wanted the Myrmidons to have a much darker scheme, but sticking to the black/grey/purple/white theme I'd started with the Sophotect and Asuras. Using black for clothing on her was a really bad idea... it just doesn't work when you stand her next to the other painted figures, so I'm going to tone it down to a dark grey so it's slightly more muted.

That Asura looks excellent. I really dig the white areas, they are bright enough but have nice contrast in the shadow areas.

Its looking pretty good, but not finished yet right?
The one inner leg-pad is purple, while the other is still basecoated.
I do like the highlighting on the Hex-grid, it looks good.

Thanks guys.White miniatures are a pain in the back side to photograph though. If you get the lighting right, it looks like it's been bleached out :/
The plan is to carry the white, grey and purple through out the entire force, but with each unit type taking on a different balance of colours.
For example the Asuras are white with thin purple trim; Sophotect is white armour, grey leggings and purple coat. The Myrmidons are going to be a lot darker... probably dark-mid grey armour with purple edging. Not sure about the rest yet Automatically Appended Next Post: Chemical Cutthroat wrote:Its looking pretty good, but not finished yet right?

The purple inner panel is attached to the purple lines on her leg. The other one was a slightly darker grey on purpose... I guess I can do it purple to balance things out

The hexes were surprisingly simple to do.
1) The model had a white basecoat
2) Wash the hexes with necron abyss. Gravity tends to pull it down away from the top edge of the hexes, dealing with the highlight
3) Paint some badab black onto the bottom half of each hex to create the depth
