So I've been poking around here on Dakka for a couple weeks now and after recieving some encouragement from some of the older/more active memebers here, I thought I'd give making my on P&M blog a go.

But a little back ground on me and why the Knights of Blood. When the Blood Angel's 5th Ed Codex came out, in tandum with the IA's for the Badab War, I was initially stuck by the Lamenters. Talk about a misunderstood chapter with some of the worst luck... like ever. So after building about 1000 points of Lamenters, well, life happened, and I had to get out of 40K for a bit.

Fast forward to spring on 2013, Dark Vengeance comes out with the Dark Angels Codex and some sick new models. My buddies at my LFGS are a bunch of slaves to chaos soo I wound up with a lot of Dark Angels and ended up building 2000 pts of Angels of Vengeance in about a month - easy color scheme to paint quickly and them not look like Ork Droppings.

Now I have a Kill Team tourny I want to play in coming up, and after painting an army to play with, I wanted to get back into really making a unit with character. After going back through the associated fluffls of the Blood angels and Dark Angels, of all their sons the Knights of Blood seem most likely to through a handful of their pyschopathic brothers at mission then say... the Lamenters who are currently out redeeming their souls some where painful.

Now I have my Codex to build off of, on to the actual decision making process. Now I realize I will most likely have my arse handed to me as I have never competed or even played a Kill Team game before but heres what i went with;

8 Man Assault Squad

Sgt with Power Weapon, Combat Shield, Melta Bombs and Storm Bolter

1 Marine with Plasma Gun

6 standard Assualt Marines

comes out to about 198

I haven't figured out which special rules I want to give whom, but I'm almost positve I'm givng the Sgt Feel No Pain to make him slightly more survivable.

But where's the fun in building one epic looking Sgt and a plasma gunner? Especially when I have all these bits and boxes. So I've decided to make this squad look as close to what you see in the Black Library books, for me drawing a lot from the Soul Drinkers pantheon and the Ultramarines following Uriel Ventris. That being said, a Librarian Lexican will be joing the squad to be present and record the deeds of his brothers. An apothecary, for the loss of precious gene seed is unacceptable (especially in a chapter who's losses can sometimes be absurd). A techmarine to maintain the armor and jump backs of his reckless brothers, and could you see the look on the face of a tech marine if a normal battle brother in the Knights of Blood asked to play with a plasma gun? He'd about gak himself. The remaining 4 can be the standard assault marines assigned to a 5 man assualt squad. Soo it all kinda made sense once I laid out my build plan.

So, on to the plastic bits!

I started working on the Assault Sgt first. I loved the armor from the sanguinary guard, but felt their weapons too over the top, especially for the brothers of the Blood Knights. So I'm going with the torso, legs and jumpack of the sanguinary guard with the one of their normalesk looking helms. But when I took out the power sword from the assault marine box it looked a little... small... I mean this guy is gonna be a decorated (well.. kinda) but definately experience vet! I looked at the nemisis flachion and great swords from the GK kit and settled with the great sword (cuz the flachuon still seemed small) So i did a blad swap and really like the new look. I'm still debating on what shoulder pads to go with, I feel like the BA shoulder gaurds are tooo iconic. I'm leaning towards the Mk VIII pads from the Command Squad set's champion bits. Thoughts?

Assault Sgt Completed!

Life happened recently, but i did get the cahcne to build the rest of the kill team! I'm really excited with how they look currently, i'll post some group shots shortly!

@ Stargasm - Yes Bastard Sword, they're Knights of Blood soo take the normally close combaty aggression of Blood Angels and then... make them more homicidal

ok, back to my kill team. So even though I only have three marines with non-standard assault load outs, i still wanted them to have the elite feel a Kill Team should have. So for that Extra Punch, and for communication was technology fails, you're gonna want a Librarian. He's not gonna be a full blown codicer as they will carry some actual rank within the chapter, but the young buck with just enough training to be an advantage? He's gotta start some where.

This Lexicanum is a combination of Grey Knight, Sanginary Guard and Assault Marine Bits:
MK VII Helmet, san guinary guard arms (writ mounted bolt gun, counts as bolt pistol) and grey knight nemises flachon cut and on an assault marine arm with the chain sword cut off. Grey Knight shoulder pad with the book and sword to show he's a lowbie Librarian, he's got the SG torso but with the GK backing for the physic hood, as he's still a librarian and their armor is just cooler in general. And the regular assault pack mainly because the jump back from the SG kit doesnt fit with the physic hood.

Next up I have my Sanguinary Priest. To mark out his rank as a Priest and with the holy duty of preserving the prescious gene seed, he also gets the SG armor, I specifically chose the armor with the blood drops and the legs with the drop as well, felt it went well together given the specialist role. I used the apothecary helmet from the command squad as well as the necartharium (Spelling?) and the apothecary shoulder pad for some added detail. The Priest also got the SG Jump Back and an Assault Marine Bolt Pistol. He will count as a regular assault marine, I feel like the Bolt Pistol / Apothecary tools fit the bill for the assault marine load out.

The next two I put together are fairly straight forward. You're still bound to have some... slightly less derranged/homicidal brothers out there, so I have a regular assault marine annnnnnd then a Death Company because I couldnt resist! Here's a picture of all 4 before I hit them with primer last night. So now I have 4 of my counts as regular assault marines done as well as the Vet Sgt / Team Leader.

So in a flurry of modeling last night, i also assembled my flamer weilding marine with the other... more normal... assult marine. These three provided the mose unadorned surfaces so I decided they would be a good place to start. I had give a fair amount of thought to their color scheme before I started out base coating. In all of the fluff and pictures i could find they had a dark metalic, almost worn appearance very much unlike the grey knights, polar opposite almost. This in mind I decided to dry brush the metalic base color (the name escapes me sorry) and I am pretty happy with the results! Please, C & C are welcome!

I wasn't certain as to how i wanted to proceed with highlighting the metal so I opted to give the red on the helm, shoulders and aquila a go. While I realized that I couldn't really get to the aquila on the flamer, he was the one that I went for 1st. Tell me what you think! Please keep in ming, this is a very early WIP and I plan on going to town on the remaing two later today, any and all C&C will be appreciated and considered!

I'm Leaning towards going with black for the housings on the weapons and the gold for the decorations, like the skull on the helms and weapons

The metallic color is leadbelcher i believe . try ironbreaker for drybrushing the the metal to give it a highlight. Anyway have fun with the weathering.

This is great, love the thought process and planning behind it, and good work with the builds so far. Can't wait to see more!

After being distracted by life, Starcraft 2 (Because its awesome and I am that much of a nerd) I finished brushing the silver on to the three 'normal' assault marines as well as getting their helmets, shoulder pauldrons and eagles through the first to stages of red. They definately need some touch up and some smoothing, but I am really happy with the red so far. I think I may wash the silver bits in Nuln oil then highlight with lead belch then a through at least iron breaker, and perhaps runefang, but I don't know if the Blood Knights should be soo.. shiny.

I've also got the initial basecoat of blue on my libraraian, painted up though the second stage of the red on his shoulder pad and the first layer of gold. he will definately be gettin a black wash as i feel the more powdery blue would stick out too much with the darker tones. Let me know what you think!

My apologies for the dark pictures, the metal is actually a little brighter IRL. I am definately leaning towards washing the metals black more so now that I keep looking at the models and seeing the pictures. I've got to find a little better light before I post up a picture of the librarian as he's coming out dark blue and black shadowy at the moment.

I'm definately going to go with grey casings on the weapons, gold for the details and brass for the additional metal bits to have them stand ut a little more, not seem soo washed togethe, i.e. the pipping on the jumb packs mainly.

Actually, yes just on the piping on the jump backs, everyhing else should look good.

I also got the red on my death company, but since he's black, and no other details have been picked out, all you see is red lines (thanks iphone camera) I'll post a picture once i get some more details/high lights of this bad boy done.

I've started writing fiction for my little batch of homicidal Knights, it's in my signature, I like being able to bounce between projects, defiantely helps you stay frosty and not burned out.

I washed my librarian in Nuln oil, definately think it helped to bring out the detail then went back over and highlighted in with Macaragge Blue. He'll need one or two more highlights so he doesnt look flat. I've deceided to do all the extra details in gold, i feel likt they fit well with Librarian armor and I'm really happy with how they came out. Still need to hightlight to metal bits and work on the froce sword. Haven't decided how I'll paint the force sword yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Comments and Criticisms welcome!

So i got a lot done over the weekend, I did spend some time on my Deathwing Knights for my Angels of Vengeance, which admittedly took most of my time, i get ADHD when it comes to details especially on such a highly detailed sculpt. BUT! I did get the proper blue to highlight my librarian and I managed to knock out my Squad leader and gave my first shot at free handing the chapter badge. It's a little rough but I'm ok with it as its my first real time attempting a symbol free hand.

I just noticed how washed out the pictures of the storm shield are, I'll have to take a better one and re-post, but you can kinda get the idea.

On a side note I am really happy with how the Sgt turned out with the silver and read combo. I'm still undecided on how to paint the power sword and force sword. Any Suggestions?

I am liking how this kill team is coming along! Nice free hand work on the shield. I want to see a battle report though as I have never seen a kill team report, thanks for sharing!

Thoughts on the techmarine: i was thinking a metallic orange or burnt orange, something other than red. I could always go for a super dark red but what do you guys think about going for another color other than the traditional?

Personnally, I'd go for a super-dark (almost black) red, I think that'd look awesome, and would stand out from the rest of your marines. I think an orange would detract from the overall group, IMHO.
