So after mulling it over for the long time I 've decided to start work on my fluffy guard army and to bring all of you along for the ride!
I'll let all of you know now I will probably never stand with any of the legends of dakka, My GS skills are nigh none existent, I've never touched a piece of plasticard in my life, I use plastic glue, my paint jobs are mediocre at best, my grammar is horrible and I tend to post while half asleep . However, I LOVE to kitbash and have squirreled away every single bit and sprue i have bought over the past 5 years leaving me with alot of resources to draw from for every crazy idea I come up with. With that said, please critique, comment, give advice, and if you know where in Germany I could get things by all means let me know!
In my fluff *which i have still yet to write down in any readable format* The 75th Hail from the planet Vorradis, on the eastern edge of the Segmentum Ultima, bordering the Ghoul Stars. The planet possesses aa feudal society with warrior nobles controlling swaths of land and ultimately answering to the planetary governor, the greatest warrior of them all. To serve in the PDF is a position of honor and one of two ways to beat the caste system. The other is to join the Imperial guard, serve The Emperor, hopefully survive, be knighted, and eventually be retired to rule as a lord of your own land back on the homeworld.
With that, I've set about building my techno-medieval regiment starting with these two.

Thanks I really appreciate it, I'm pretty self conscious about them especially matching the feet up with the legs. At first i thought maybe i had made them look like they were falling but it looks more like shuffle the closer I look.
Slowly putting more together and also working on my rough rider design, tech-knight bikers!

So, finally took the leap and buil the trial rough rider. I had given him a lance initially, but really REALLY hated the way it looked so I got rid of it and will wait for my brettonian lances to get here. I'm pretty happy with the pose, its kinda hard to tell without it but its like he's hefting the land getting ready to strike.
I only bought one scout bike so this guy will be by himself for awhile untill my FLGS gets more in. What I want to try with the next one is maybe have the front tire in the air and him striking downwards with the lance. What do you guys think, I'd love to hear your ideas. On a side note maybe give him a cloak?

Just a quick little update, my normal guardsmenare slowly coming along as I try things here and there. My biggest challenge so far has been attaching the men at arms heads to tue cadian torses, without any gs its all measure twice cut one and extremely nerve wrackino. With the meltaman I've for the first time magnetized a model so I can switch it out with another arm with a plasma gun!
Overall I'm really happy with howy little squad is growing. I'm trying to figure out a color scheme though, I know I want red in there possibly for the armored bits. Let me know what your think, is there something I could do to spiff them up, or maybe something I could have done better?

I think your army is coming along and look great. If you are having trouble with connecting things try just trimming off the shoulders and leaving the Bretonnian torso. Take a look here, may give you some ideas. I think some medium blues and browns would look good.

Awesome! I knew that other people had the idea before, but didny know anyone on the site that had done it. I like that drab brown and tans, they could really make the red armor pop out and mesh pretty well without being garish. What colors are they? Or are they a mix of several and washes?

The brown was Steel Legion Drab with 2 generous coats of Agrax Earthshade wash. I agree they will look cool with the red.

Thanks for the color info and the compilment, right now I'm trying to figure out what to do with sentinels. I kinda want to make a cross between the clockwork man from rise of legends, the exo suit from aliens, and like a contemptor dreadnought, all while containing noticable elements of the sentinal. Think like armored knight but spindly with a pilot in a seat in the back.
So im looking at these two color schemes for my guard , the red on both will be a darker muted red but it conveys the general idea. I kind want to incorperate fortress grey somehow but I just dont think it would work with the normal guardsmen, maybe more for the vets and vehicles. Ideas, comments, let me know what you guys think!

I personally like the first one more, but I think you could work fortress gray into the second one on the armor plating, such as a highlight or even an alternating pattern.

I prefer the first one as well. Liking the use of Bret parts as well. I personally reckon a knight shield would work better on the bike giving it more of a vee shape.

I approve of using brettonians for IG, try searching for "genswick".
for colour schemes try looking at 17thC -19thC military uniforms if you are going for solid colours.
if you want to incoprate red and a light grey try one of the urban camo patterns around, WW2 and the cold war are your friends for this.
top looks best though i'd pass on the grey on the helm.
try a test mini first its an interesting scheme i'm sure you'll pull it off

After abit of tweaking I think I may have a solid scheme and will paint one up tomorrow after work to to start of my weekend on a good note.
@llamahead: I had thought about that as well but I unfortunatly don't have any, just the man at arms shields. Want I like about these ones though are that they are blank which allows me a nice surface to practice my freehand painting!

So, after tramatizing my bunny by taking him to the vet for checkup, and getting into it with a neighbor over his inability to park in a single space, I got kind of a late start on my test mini.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the results. I made a few mistakes, got shaky hands a few times and managed to spill my agrax earthshade, but I did save most of it.
I really have to thank all the folks that have put up tutorials here o dakka without your guys I would have never been able to manage this paint job.

So just a quick update, work has kept me busy and dog tired.I've only really managed to bash together my master of ordnance counts as, and I'm pretty darn proud of myself. I was going to stick a vox on his back but I felt like it would be too much so I left him as is. While I havent managed much progress on the kitbashed guardsmen, today I did get my bases in the mail! Now I shall send forth wave afyer wave of storm troopers and melta and plasma!

The 75th LIVES! But in all seriousness I'm back with more Crimson Cavalier goodness! Work kept me away from the hobby for a good bit and with a impending move from Europe to the US its a matter of what I can keep on hand and what has to go in the boxes. Dispite all of that I've made some darn good progress imo and want to revive this blog to share it with the good folks of dakka.

Thanks! I really pour my heart into these fellas. At times it can be abit of a pain to gather up all the needed bits and figure out how to peice them together so they look "just right" but its so so gratifying to see it all come together. Truly its a labor of love, even with the "The sky is falling" of the impeding 7th edition I'll continue collecting and building my regiment.
Moving on! So I continue to try and figure out how to make "Rise of Legends Vinci Clockwork Man" style sentinels and it is driving me nuts, I thinking a combination of the sentinel (duh!) And venerable dreadnought kits. Think a scaled down knight but with spindly limbs, I want to remain true to the "baroque industrial" style of the imperium.
While I beat my head against my bitz box figuring that mess out I've finally assembled my first of the new scions! My first was the Tempestor Prime, who I was able to begin and FINISH painting in a day! ( I think I'm getting the hang of this focusing thing!) Unfortunatly shortly after taking these pic my wife scared the feth outta me and I dropped my phone on my poor tempestor snapping his antennae in half...

Thats one of the issues I'm having at the moment. I have several tanks but they are already assembled from the 75th's previous incarnation so short of hacking them to pieces (which I won't) or adding on plasticard additions (which I dont have and even if I did, have no experience with) I'm not sure what I could do. Most of the vehicle I can see gluing a shield or banners to them to give the knightly feel but the thought changing the overall shape and profile makes my ocd go off the charts. For example, I have two taurox that are getting wheels and even though it looks better It tugs at me that I changed the vehicle (TECH HERESY). That, and I just dont have many vehicle bits to work with. I have infantry bits for DAYS, but not much in the mechanical department.
There are alternate models that I LOVE namely those from Ramshackle Games but that leaves me in a bind if I even think about playing at a official GW function. Alternatively I could use parts from Ramshackle Games and leave the model mostly GW but yeah... expensive and makes me feel like I'm doing both models a injustice. Now that I think about it, I have this problem ONLY when it comes to vehicles..

Thanks, a note if you plan on doing similar conversions with brets. Use a throw away knife to seperate the torsos from the legs, the plastic is so thick it might ruin the blade and using a razor saw can be abit finicky.
I'm pretty happy with the psyker and look forward to building the other two today. Only thing I'm worried about with these guys is painting the witchfire. I was thinking purples with blues as highlights?

Looking very nice indeed. I have a similar look for my Armageddon PDF platoon using WGF greatcoats and West Wind British gas mask heads and cadian arms and pouches. I remember when GW used to put out troll magazine (for free I might add) and had the Genswick Rifles in it. I like your use of the cadian torsos far better than the standard bret men at arms torsos. And your color scheme is really cool.
