Playing orks my conversion skills have gotten better but still not great. I tried taking the aobr was boss and adding armor but that's exactly what it looks like. I think it looks like crap. So I'm thinking going to the fantasy side and getting a black orc big boss as a starting point. As I've been using black orcs as my starting point for my meganobz. Big difference is its finecast and not sure how easy it is to convert. Any other ideas would be great too.

I looked on eBay and found some nice looking mega armored orks but they are all to short to be a boss

There seem to be reasonable number of people using Centurions as a base model

(Anung Un Rama's work, btw)

Hmmm good idea. Are they on 40mm bases or 60mm bases?

Kromlech did some MANZ. They are closer to Warboss size then regular nob sized though. So one would make for a nice MAW

A little bit pricey, but what about starting with Ghazgul Thraka?

You've got the basic huge megawarboss, head swap, change the details a little, new banner etc and he should look sufficiently different.

I've also seen MAWs done from AOBR dreads and Ogryns/Ogres.

This thing is an amazingly easy conversion to do.

The Seraphs of Thunder: a homebrew, almost entirely converted successor Deathwing. And also some Orks. And whatever else I have lying around.

The Centurians come on a 40mm Base but if your making a MegaWarboss..it should be on a 60 mm base anyway ..(I have my Metal Gazy in Megaarmour on a 60mm base and no one has ever said boo..ever..then again Ghazzy is supposed to be MC in size anyway ..and with a dead Biker and a dead Termi at his feet it looks good) ...

(40mm Base for Meganobz same as termies) 60mm Base for Ghazzy or if your building it from a Beaky dread as a base ..cause neither looks right on a 40mm base (hell ghazzy wont stay upright on 40mm not the metal version anyway)

I thought Centurions were on a 50mm base.

When the hell did 50mm rounds come out? I'm out of loop. Warbosses are all on 40mm bases I thought. In fact I thought all ork characters aside from mad dok were on 40. My ghazzy came with a 40!

I have used the aobr dread cut the legs off make an ork sized hole in the bottom cut open the front so his face can be seen replace one or both arms with ork arms mine look like he's punched through the side, I have also converted the melta on the side of the dread so it's look as if he is holding it, I'll try upload a pic later

This model is really cool, but he's way, WAY too small for Mega Armor. Black Orcs are slightly smaller than Nobz. Those are the normal base sizes, but they made new ones for the Centurions. Makes me think they'll want to get more use out of that base size, and if plastic MANz come out with the next Ork dex, I could see them taking those up.

I wanted a mega armored warboss but didn't want to use the typical Thraka model.

So I used an old inquisitor sized model (Tyrus), along with the older metal bits from Thraka himself.

Makes him pretty darn big. Just have to add green stuff and bits to make him more orky. I am extremely happy with the conversion.

This is awesome. I love it.

From the initial Age of Sigmar news thread, when its "feature" list was first confirmed:

What I did is take normal nobs put two shoulder pads side by side on each side for a total of four shoulder pads (looks really cool) gave them helmeted nob heads, and iron gobs, then gave them big metal backpacks that attach to their claws via a wire, ( I think I used Burma boy backpacks and random bits) and gave them plasticard shield with Orks bitz, they look pretty awesome
