Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I'm looking forward to replenishing the Harrowed's ranks, and to pushing the storyline farther along.

Through a busy couple of weeks fraught with lots of real life events and issues (taking care of my Dad in NYC for a week or so; sending a daughter off to college), I have only modest progress to show on the Harrowed front. I’ll post the results anyway – if for no other reason than to spur myself back into action.

I’ve been concentrating on my new Flamers of Tzeentch, including this creature:

… who looks like this head-on:

And then a comrade, this one more elaborately “gifted” by Tzeentch (and so probably standing in as a Pyromancer when the occasion calls for one, or possibly as a Herald of Tzeentch):

Yeah, he’s a hot mess:

Definitely going to need a lot of apostrophes for whatever I name him!

I had three of these creatures I was working up, and I seemed to have lost one! Hoping he’ll turn up somewhere. Meanwhile, I started on a new guy. This one with a different “hairstyle”

Obviously he’s just getting underway.

So that’s where I am. Stay tuned, and thanks for looking….

Bam! My new round of Flamers of Tzeentch is basically modeled and ready for basing and painting.

I've been having a lot of fun with these guys. I figure the "blessing" of Harrowed possession is going to take myriad manifestations, particularly when administered by servants of Tzeentch.

I see these creatures as prophets. Whereas other mortals caught in the grip of the Harrowing are unwilling subjects, these wretches are zealots pledged to the Changer of Ways, becoming elite followers who invite the agonies of possession and in return are made the vessels of especially potent Warp energies. Those (admittedly few) who survive the brutal event become bearers of the sacred Breath of Chaos -- albeit temporary ones (as the energies they channel are so powerful they relatively quickly consume their host vessels).

Anyway, here are some different angles:

... and

That's all for now.Say goodbye, boys:

Thanks for looking.

Thanks, man. I'm afraid "chipping away" is the best I've been able to manage so far on these creatures. Hopefully the pace will pick up over the next few weeks.

Thanks, Hyenajoe. Coming from you the kind words mean a lot. (I've been loving the weirdness that continues to emerge from your own dark forgeworld.

And I kind of agree with you on the spore head. Such generous gifts from the Ruinous Powers! I'll probably designate him as a Pyrocaster and/or Herald, when the occasion calls for it.

Back to the Dark Forge! Tzeentch requires new sorceries, new alchemies, new rituals of daemonic engineering. Whispers from the Warp speak of battles fought in the skies above the worlds of the doomed Materium. The battle prophets of the Harrowed now bend their efforts toward the fell purpose of fitting their engines to fly.
I’ve started a new project – a winged Tzeentch Prince conversion.
In the interest of preserving as much WYSIWYG as I can keep hold of, I want to make the creature’s wings prominent, along with the “gun” stuff – the point being to signal to opponents that this daemon flies and shoots stuff.
And then more generally, I want to try new kinds of conversions. So, rather than taking a possessed IG sentinel as a “host vessel” and Spawn bits as my daemonic ligature, I’ll work with a different pile of materials.
Starting with…

I have, as yet, no clear design, only the sketchy outlines of an idea: the crew of a tank possessed, its turret wrenched from the hull, daemonic wings knitting themselves together and bearing the weapon aloft…
That’s the idea. I don’t know exactly how this thing will look when it’s done.

But then, that’s never stopped me from starting before.

So, first I went to work on the wings, splicing in cables and greenstuff, and along the way carving out some of the daemonic-bat-wing tissue…

… and meanwhile I’ve begun “Harrowing” a Russ barrel

Originally I thought I’d cap this part with a suitably vicious-looking maw…

… although now that I put that together, I don’t think it’ll work with the general composition, so I probably won’t use that part in this conversion.

“General composition?” you ask. “What’ll that look like?”

You ask a lot of pesky questions.

Roughly, I’m thinking of taking a section of the barrel, “stretching it out and twisting it a bit” with some greenstuffed daemon tissue, and having it snout its way forward, slung low off of the suspended turret, something like:

And then, affixing the wings something in this shape:

And meanwhile, on the underside of the turret, the creature will be trailing guts, entrails, cables, and the crucified remains of one or a few of the crew…

All of which is very much just begun here. I have a bit more work to do on the wings, a lot more work to do on the barrel/mouth, and a lot lot more to do on the turret.

Including, perhaps, some form of head, or maybe just spliced-in eyes opening all over the hull. Not sure yet about that.

Thanks for looking. Ideas or suggestions are welcome. As you can see, this all remains very plastic at this stage of things.

Lately a lot of my opponents have been requesting that I field more screamers. Apparently they're really fun to play against?

Always eager to oblige, I've finished up another three, bringing the pack up to 9 (sacred!)

Now to paint them up, for (hopefully) battles up in Maine this weekend.

Meanwhile, thanks for feedback and suggestions on the Flying Prince. I'm mulling over the idea of legs.

This thread again? Really?

So I’m working on some obliterator conversions.

This project points the Harrowed in a new direction. I’ve been experimenting with the new Chaos Space Marines codex and thinking up lists that might look and play like Lost and the Damned armies: Daemonic allies, and main detachments drawn from the CSM Codex: Dark Apostle, cultists, Chaos Spawn … and then a series of creatures and constructs playing as CSM codex proxies, but modeled and themed as Dark Forge/possessed Mechanicus creations. The underlying narrative theme becomes, a Harrowed Forge, with corrupt mech-adepts creating twisted daemon engines.
The conversion possibilities are rich. I’d love to work up Harrowed versions of Forge Fiends and Mauler Fiends.
Meanwhile, I’ve started on some Obliterators, which I see as Harrowed weapons servitors, slaved to darkness.
I’m working from Spawn models as starting points, and splicing in ridiculous amounts of cables and other greenstuffery…

and giving them “gun-arms” via mutated multi-las weaponry…

As usual, I’ve gotten kind of carried away…

But what the hell, right? 40k is all about excess…

I’m using the Cities of Death lamp fixtures as heads…

and just kind of going with things, not really sure where or how they’ll end up.

(As you can tell, I’m loving my cable making tools! "Tentacle Makers" by Greenstuff Industries: highly recommended!)

I haven’t gotten any great ideas about legs for these creatures. The Spawn legs make them look too limber, too fast. I want to convey implacable, lumbering, slow-and-purposeful gaits. And mech-horror. I’ll probably try sculpting thick, stubby, back-jointed limbs with lots of cable tissue. Or something.
Anyway, let me know what you think.

This is a small thing, I know, but I'm really impressed at the kinked cabling you've done with green stuff. So much cleaner than anything I've ever been able to pull off with GS myself. Glad to see this is still underway!

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Long time no post! Sorry for the radio silence. I've been producing at a slower rate. But gradually getting some things done.

Most recently I've started working on some Flesh Hound conversions -- I'm calling them "Harrowhounds."

I decided to start with the dire wolf models from the WHFB Vampire Counts line, since I liked the flesh-peeling-away-to-reveal-the-sinews-beneath look. And the skull heads.

But not the fur, not even mangy fur. I picture the Harrowhounds as bald creatures, with patches of skin showing. So I began by "shaving" the fur off of the models...

... which did create, here and there, a cool kind of weasly/mole look that I liked.

And then, me being tinfoil and these being Harrowed, I started in with the greenstuff...

... the idea being, less is not more. No, more is more....

... and yet moar...

Still a ways to go on these guys. Lemme know what you think.
