What do you think of Skaven?
Dont know what Skaven are
Hate them - they look stupid/the background sucks
Tolerate them - WHFB would not miss them if they were dropped
Like them - They are a good part of WHFB lore but I dont collect them
Love them - I enjoy the models and background and maybe collect them too

I might start playing FB because of The Skaven.

I love their models and fluff...From what I've read, they're a pretty decent army too

I like 'em, just got the Games Day miniature through too which will stay in my collection until I one day venture across, though the Tomb Kings are looking pretty awesome. I reckon that I'll stay 40k as I prefer the skirmish (ie, not ranked up) style of play

Not really a fan,I just never got them.
Like I could see Lizardmen as Aztecs, and Ogres as Mongols and etc.

But Rat people? Never really had any thing for me to look at,just rats and bigger rats and they collect rocks.

I'm sure they might be fun if you play as them, but as for me I'll leave them on the shelf.

Awesome. If I hadn't sold my soul to Khaine and become a Druchii general, and if it wasn't for the fact that I hate painting fur and horde units, I'd have a themed army of them right now. Love the fluff (especially after reading Skavenslayer, the second Gotrek and Felix book). Also, they are one of the few 'original' armies that GW have come up with. Plus, they're so damned fun to play and play against! Sure, some of their units may be extremely cheesy, but they tend to have a very high possibility of blowing themselves up spectacularly and I NEVER, in any scenario, see that as a bad thing. Awesome. But my money does go to buy armies which I like to paint as well as like the fluff, and unfortunately, I have quite a few fantasy armies on my wish list that I deem more fun to paint than Skaven, not even counting 40k armies and other game systems. Dark Elves, Empire, Brettonia and WoC specifically from WHFB. Maybe I'll get to them in a few years, but, maybe not.

I like them. I have pet mice anyway, so I really like the look of the models. Most of their war machines are really easy scratchbuilds, which is definitely something I scout when choosing an army. Also, I love that they have a lot of different units spread throughout their army book. You can build a lot of completely different lists, both competitive and fluffy. They can be fairly cheap to start with the Isle of Blood set. I personally don't see a lot of negatives to them.

The only OP army in fantasy are the Chaos Daemons, otherwise Fantasy is remarkably balanced in 8th Ed. The Skaven can be very powerful, true, but they can also be more unpredictable than the Orcs & Goblins, and unlike O&G, they can be very, very self-destructing.

To be specific, I want Hrud not rats. They're only equivilant to Skaven in the way that Necrons are equivilant to Tomb Kings but I think they'd be cool. I don't play Fantasy Battle, but I like the style and look of Skaven

Honestly, they are amongst the best ideas/races that GW have made both miniature and fluff wise. LOVE em!
Their fluff has always been cool (im especially fond of the old Andy Chambers army book in that regard), and the new miniatures are 100% AWESOME!

WHFB without skaven is not WHFB. its just another fantasy wargame.

I fell in love with the skaven when i read The Loathsome Ratmen And All Their Vile Kin when i was young. their the only race i play although i do collect other races.
about half of my collection(roughly speaking) is Skaven

Mixed...
They took a lot of the really "funny" stuff away from O&G after 4th ed, and gave it to the Skaven...
And as green-blooded as I am... I can't stand idly-by and be happy about it.
AND I can't really say that I like the "cyber-rat-ogres"... I loved the old models.
The new Storm Vermin models, on the other hand, are AWESOME!

However, I love the lore, and models.
I have been hemming-n-hawing about starting a Skaven army for about a year now...
But the Dark Eldar have stolen my budget. (Not enough WFB players in Central Kansas).

" It says in the rules that if there are no models from one side left on the table, then that side has lost. What it DOESN'T say is that I can't pick my opponent's models up and throw them on the floor, so if I'm losing the game, all I have to do is pick my opponents models up and throw them on the floor, and then I WIN! YAY! Woohoo. Loophole: FOUND! "

My only WHFB army and I find them very amusing even if I do need to paint 200+ models for a 2000pt game I play a variation of different sized lists and I find them really funny regardless of whats happening on the board, even if Im miss firing all over the place and blowing huge chunks of my own army up inevitably losing me the game im still able to laugh and put it down to the Skaven job description.
The models are also kinda cute in there own way! I don't hink I've ever collected an army in the same way as I have Skaven and it just shows being its my only army now between 40k and WHFB
