Hi, I've just put up a nice little Dakka update but part of that involves a full re-write of the dakka header. If your header looks funny, please click shift-refresh / ctrl-refresh or clear your cache on your mobile device (or wait a week or so and it will fix itself on its own).

The latest updates include:
- rewrote the header and footer across site to improve mobile performance and scaling
- changed the homepage image blog to be massive images (change will appear in 24 hours or so)
- when uploading images, improved the size of image preview to show difference between original and adjusted versions (larger thumbnails).
- when uploading images, you can now do multiple uploads at once, facebook style - so there is no longer any technical limit to how many images you can upload at once and you can select many images at once which will make bulk uploading much faster and easier.
- fixed the maps (player finder, store finder) on windows mobile devices.

Please post any bugs in the nuts and bolts thread.

For iOS devices powering them down and then back up again seems to do the trick.

The old google ad redirection bug on ipad and iphone might be back as well - I'll give it a couple of hours to sort itself out and then I'll put a fix in place that will stop it for sure.

Just a note from my personal preference. I like having the recent threads and subscribed threads easily clickable whereas now, I have to hover the cursor over "Thread Tools" to find them. There's all that unused real-estate in the top ribbon, why'd you combine everything?

I grudgingly combined it because it was becoming a pain to maintain multiple header styles across so many devices and themes, and it prevented me from being able to easily implement additional improvements (a bunch of mobile improvements are planned for the near future at least).

Noticed that as well.

I'm on an iPad, also have an iPhone, and when I go to upload a picture it won't allow me to take a picture and upload. I first have to take the photo then get it from my library. Little bit annoying when doing pics in progress.

I miss the old headers as they were pretty handy but I understand if they affected performance. My goto click was the subscribed threads tab to see what had been updated since my last trip. I'll just have to bookmark that page or go through the profile page instead.

Pretty much this.

I know, I feel bad for forcing the change but I did leave it in place for 2 and a half years to give time for most to adjust I'm not changing the header for quite a while now, so if it really bothers anyone it would be possible for someone to make a greasemonkey script to fix it perhaps.

Thanks for the update. When I got in this morning I was like "WTF" at the new header.

I seem to be experiencing some re-sizing issues with Chrome on IOS (iPad specifically.)

Pre update, if a large image was present in the page, the site seemed to reduce it down to fit better with the width of the page, but today it seems that the page stays at a wider 'zoom' to accommodate the images, resulting in much smaller text.

Not unusable, but a little irritating.

That's linked to a bug noted in the nuts and bolts thread and it will get fixed. If you switch to the 'classic dakka' theme, does the problem still happen?

Nope, switching to classic Dakka seems to solve it, will stick with that for a bit.

I'll post in this thread when I've been able to replicate, test and fix the bug in the standard theme. Thanks for your patience.

ctrl refresh works for chromebooks

I dont know if it could be related, but it seems around the same time this change was made the hover tooltips on acronyms doesnt seem to work (using chrome on a pc)

Yup, hovering text is broken on all devices but a fix is done and going live this weekend.

On a touchscreen device, you can now swipe left to right on the dakka logo anywhere on the forums section of the site, and a much easier to navigate menu will slide in from the left granting access to my subscribed threads, etc.

A bunch of other fixes are now in place as well (switch theme works on all devices, a few graphical fixes, etc)

The iphone/iOS header fixes are still pending me getting access to an iphone for a prolonged period of time.
