Subject: Dakka (unofficial) Monthly Painting Challenge 6: August 2015: Rise of the Machines!
Welcome to August's Dakka (unofficial) Monthly Painting Challenge. For those who aren't familliar, this is a no-prize-related challenge open to any and all painters and hobbyists. Anyone can enter, from a newcomer to the hobby with your first box of minis to a multiple-time Golden Demon champion, and the winner each month will be decided by community poll, not just on the paintwork but on the effort, creativity and awesomeness of the finished piece!
For this month, the theme is: Rise of the Machines
For example, this includes:
Any kind of robot, drone, cyborg, or mechanical construction
Any kind of vehicle where the pilot/driver is not the focus of the piece
Any kind of mechanic, engineer, technician ect working on a machine or vehicle
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or baedcoated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be elligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 5 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month Following the vote, points will be awarded for the following:
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
The League
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st August and will end at midnight BST on the 31st August. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Edit: I missed the note about pilots not being visible. I was taking "rise" as how much I've had to repair this thing and that it'll have a Phoenix/flight theme. But seems I missed the point there by derping.
I won't have time to do another entry this month, so disregard if it's not compatible. My only other machine is a sentinel but the pilot in that is leaning out of the door having a bad day.

I'm in as usual.
This time have to decide between a way to big scratch built warboss - deffdread, an orky dunebuggy/mudracer (scratch of cause) and an Imp Knight... I think I'll be doing my Warboss-dread.
Pics will follow for proof.
I AM NUMBER ELEVEN!!! It's like being first, but two times, right?!

I’ll try to figure out what I want to enter in time to paint it, but I’ll get something done. Either a wraithguard/lord, or an arcoflagelent. I’ll grab a pic of all of them, and paint at least one.
Edit for pics:
As I was puttering around this morning, I realized that I had a very 40k-centric bias. While I still might go with one of the above, there are more games lurking in my basement. When the topic is “Rise of the Machines” how can I ignore the deadly cybertanks I’ve got kicking around? And not small ones either:
A Mk. IV, Mk. VI, and a Doppelsoldner.
Tune in later to find out what I decide on!

My birthday is coming up. If-and this is a big if- I get an ork bommer, I'll enter that. If I don't get an ork bommer, then I'll see about something else. I won't know until August 6th.
Hope you understand.

Count me in, should be able to get *something* done. Not sure what yet, I'll let you guys know... I could do my incoming combined army Ikadron Batroid, or a small team of Aesterian Cyphers, or one (or both) of my remaining Nomad Sputniks... Oh, or my second Giant Stompy Robot.
Any thoughts? I'm not sure what I'd like to paint at this point!

I’m not sure what the first things are, but you can never go wrong with Giant Stompy Robots.
We shall see if life allows me opportunity to actually get some hobby time this month. I am going through withdrawals I tell you! It is not good for my psychological well-being not being able to work on anything!
You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right!

First thing is a funky robot/drone for my alien combined army for Infinity.
Aesterians are basically space elves in the Manticverse, and Cyphers are kind of like wraithguard but all nimble and quick instead of heavier, but still larger than normal space elves, and remote piloted Avatar style.
I've already got one Big Stompy Robot done but I do have a second. It would take longer to do the magnets than paint it probably...
May see if I can get my act together on the Cyphers.

I should think you are good, but I guess that's really up to Para. I've seen storm talons made into some pretty excellent walkers, so I'm looking forward to what you come up with

Regarding pilots, guys in cockpits are pretty much fine. I was more trying to restrict things where the 'pilot' is the focus rather than the machine, things like Dreadknights ect and sorry, bikers.
Sorry, should have clarified that!

Um..... Got q few commitments this month. How far do people think the definition of 'figure' can be stretched? I need to build a steampunk gun (life size) for the end of the month. Could I submit that? Will be starting from an unpainted nerf gun and can do proof pics etc. But happy to try and squeeze something else in if the gun is bit off the spirit of the completion. :-)

I was actually wondering about this, because this month I'll be making a full Adeptus Mechanicus costume (robes, head, arms, etc) but figured it's less painting and more modelling/textiles.
I might put it on to hold my end result for a laugh for the entry photos.

That would be fine!

I am feeling frustrated that I didn't keep up the pace with my unrealistic entries in the early challenges and as long as there are no objections from the other contestants or Para, if I can't submit my Ravenwing bikers, I'd like to submit my Vindicator tank. This never got any more paint on it than the base spray as you can see in the proof I've taken today:
Happy to be told if it's not appropriate, but I really want to get the diorama finished that I had planned for these minis!

Rather appropriately for the start of this contest, it was the Golden Daemon: Tanks today in Nottingham. Saw some lovely examples (thought surprisingly few) it's given me some inspiration to get this done.
In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE
Not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I'm definitely going to enter this one. I've got a bunch of machines/mechanical constructions that need painting, at the moment I'm torn between a converted Dreadnought for my Orks, a converted Obliterator, a Hellbrute, or a scratchbuilt tank for Chaos... Decisions, decisions!
