Subject: Craftworld Ann-iok: Eldar Gone Bad (Converted RT Eldar)
|
 |
Defending Guardian Defender
|
Alright so I've had some Eldar models sitting in my closet for awhile, I just got them out to have a look and decided I'm going to paint the. I remember awhile back I "borrowed" some guardians from a friend who didn't want them anymore and chopped them up to mix them with some jetbikers that I had stripped. This was before the new jetbikes had been released so I thought it was pretty cool. Anyways, I'll post some pictures on how I made them, etc. I also used the 1d4chan Eldar Craftworld to generate the background. Here's the link if you're curious
https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Eldar_Craftworld_Creation_Tables
So this is the results I got..
Found : M39
Biome: Urban
Common Path: Warrior
Military Strength: Nominal Strength
Favoured Tactic: Terror/Precision
Favoured Units: Jetbikes
Warrior Aspect: Striking Scorpions
Hero: Autarch - Dead of legend: Lost in the warp reappearing now and then
Allies: Dark Eldar
Enemy: Dark Eldar
Of course I had to have Jetbikes as the main unit, but the rest is random believe it or not! And with this valuable information I made this quick background that I'll work on later .
An eldar craftworld embroiled in a civil war between they’re twisted brethren. While escaping from the tyranid Hive fleet, Kraken, these eldar had been tricked into entering the commorragh by a small allied force of dark eldar. The webway gate had been damaged and thus when the jump was made, many of the eldar onboard had been engulfed by the warp, including the Craftworlds legendary hero. Upon entrance to the commorragh, the craftworld was besieged by awaiting kabals of the dark eldar. The initial attack on the craft world destroyed the ship's engines causing crash onto the surface of the commorragh. After centuries of brutal city-fighting and guerilla war, the innocent eldar fleet and been twisted into the ways of the dark eldar. Adopting the style of waging war as they do, the difference between them are little. Like the dark eldar, they form alliances while battling with their enemy daily.
TL;DR - Craftworld goes into commorragh by accident and gets attacked by Dark Eldar - half the population is sucked into the warp. The ship crashes into the surface and since then there's been non-stop war.
Alright that was fun to write but here's the funnest part , the models.
so this basically captures the essence of the conversion. I just switched the torso out for a guardians, but here's the tricky part. The arms from the bikers don't fit perfectly so you have to modify them just a wee bit. just cut the shoulder off and it fits perfectly
That's what it looks like attached to the body, after I finish building the models I'm going to do some greenstuff work to add flayed skin so they kind of look like Dark Eldar.
so yeah that's the start of my project. As of right now I need to finish:
1 wraithknight
12 jetbikes (2 units)
2 farseer (one on foot and one on a bike)
5 striking scorpions
1 wave serpent
See ya soon !

Alright so I got some work done just finishing the arms and bodies. I have no idea what happened to the heads, I only have 1 so I have to do something about that. Anyways I've been thinking about color schemes and I figured I'd use one from RT because personally those feel really dark and grim.
So here's a couple photo's I found online, and I really like the black and yellow one. Anyways, just a quick update, I did a little test model (not really I'll be using it if it's bad or good).
Just used a bit of flat green stuff cut and pulled at the edges, and the end of a tooth pick as the little nail. Anyways, I'd love to hear some feed back. See you soon

Alright so I've solved the head issue. I carefully cut and clipped the head off the torso of the OG eldar biker and i blue tack'd it to my bikes to see how it looks. I thought that the biker helmet compared to the guardian helmet (which is also cool) looks more like the RT eldar helmets. Here are the pics!
So this is the Eldar RT helmet
This is the eldar guardian helmet on the biker
and this is the converted helmet! I love it, I won't have to spend any money on 3rd party helmets as well. Tell me what you thing, see you next time

Alright guys quick update, I've for the most part finished the first bikers-batch.
It looks alright but hit me up with suggestions. I've also written a really basic 500 point list for all this:
HQ
Farseer: Windrider Bike - 115
Troops
x5 Windriders: Scat-Las - 95
LOW
Wraithknight: Suncannon and Scattershield - 295
-505
Quick, easy and typical. Tell me what you think, also

You've got some cool fluff here. It's a little unfortunate that you're letting the crunch get in the way of it's potential.
Either way, It'll be good to see how this army 'fleshes' out

Thanks for the replies guys! It means a lot to me. I've finished the bikes and I'm prepping them for the base and then I'll start painting.
I never really liked the clear flyer stands so I looked around and just paper clips seemed like a good alternative. I'll be using this basing guide
http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2014/04/hobby-build-rubble-bases-in-3-minutes.html
In addition to this I finished the skin trophies on the wraithknight
He looks pretty good in my opinion. Lastly, I started my conversion for the scatter laser bike
Everything's looking good, it's been raining A LOT so I hope it clears up so I can prime. The paintjob's going to be real simple, I'll post more about it when I get there

quick update:
I went out and bought the Farseer and the codex! some cool conversions planned for the Farseer stay posted , as for the painting I'm ready to paint but it's been raining like hell lately so it's super humid. I will paint them up real quick don't worry . thanks for all the replies! I really appreciate it, see you soon Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay big update, I've finished building the farseer, I just need to do the sculpting now which will take no time
This was a really quick and fast conversion, I went ahead and built the bike completely, then for the farseer himself, I used the robes and the belt from the torso. I cut the guardian torso so he has a 4-pack to fit and look right on the robe-legs. I fitted the steering arm first so I knew how to position the torso on there to have enough reach. Then I cut a Dark Eldar arm at the hand, and also the singing spear at the wrist, gluing those together. After attaching the weapon arm, I cut a dark eldar head at the neck and glued that one, however I'm kind of skeptical about that.
What do you guys think I should do for the head? Thank you in advance, see you soon

I'm thinking of making my Farseer look something like this
I want to buy it but it would cost something like $10 and that's too much, also I'm thinking of casting those helmets so I don't have to whore around the Internet looking for them. what do you think? any tips.. see you soon

Very cool looking blog and conversions, that will be interesting to follow.
Yeah 10 bucks for just this is a bit much for sure, maybe you'll eventually find a better deal by looking ebay on a regular basis (although, speaking as a junkie for ebay search subscription, this is also dangerous for you wallet ^^)
As for casting, not that I have done this before, but this looks like something that would be easily doable with instamolds, could be worth a try...

So here I am with a quick update, I've finished the basing and some other little stuff here and there on the bikes, so right now I'm just waiting for the glue to dry before painting. In the meantime I made this quick basing guide. So I started by cutting up
sprue
cork
and glueing them to the base. Here I had bought the thick cork so I had to cut it in half to make it thinner but that added a bit more to it.
Next I brushed wood glue over the base except for the top and sides of the sprue and cork (it get's there anyways but whatever). I had prepared two different sands, the big sand which you can easily buy from a Michael's or model train store etc. and also the fine grain sand from GW.
I start with the big sand, you don't need to much, in this case less is more
Then of course I put it through the fine grain to complete the look
And after brushing excess sand away on the side of the base and the top of rubble I am ready to go!
Off camera I watered down the glue greatly (50:50 - 60:40 water:glue) and gave it a coat of that to make sure the sand and cork won't flake. It came out looking really good and I can't wait to paint! I will write some fluff after I finish this 500 - point batch see you soon

BIG UPDATE! I've finished the first 500 points (building, basing etc) and I have the first coat of paint on it!!!
They came out looking really good, I undercoated with a black to create some depth on the model, then I finished it with grey. I sprayed the helmets separately, I'm thinking about taking the wraithknights head off and priming it, then gluing it back on. I'm not sure though. Hope you guys enjoy! There is more to come

I've gotten some progress on the painted models, nothing I want to post yet, but here is the next batch of models I'm going to do up
they have a gakky old paint scheme but I'm working on stripping them down to bare plastic again. I've already mounted the Wave Serpent, so I'm going to finish the stuff I have before I work in them.
