So, I read Angel's Blade and thought it was pretty good. I saw all the formations in the back of the book and thought it would make for a pretty cool, kinda fluffy army. Trying my hand at weathering these guys. Want them to be nice and beat up. So, the plan is:

A Battle Demi Company, bare bones, minimum squad size led by a chaplain. These guys will be the marginally sane survivors from the psychic assault on the 5th Company.

A Death Company Strike Force. To represent the less than sane members of 5th Company.

An Archangels Demi Company to represent the 1st Company led by Captain Karlaen.

The Golden Host.

A Lucifer Armored Task Force. Just for fun.

On to the pics.....

How's it going Cheese? Nice of you to stop by and glad you like the guys so far

So, knocked out the second tactical squad. These go pretty fast when it's only 5. Also finished the armor on 4 more Sanguinary Guard. I don't really care for the legs on these guys. I get the whole "descending Angels" thing, but it just doesn't look right. Anyway.....

I really like the fact that the red on these guys is very toned down and grubby, it looks really good if you ask me!

Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback. The red is a non GW color. Black Red or something like that. I also put Nuln Oil in the recesses to give that dirty look. I want these guys to look like they have been put through a big fight keeping up with the Death Company. In the meantime, some progress on the first squad of Sanguinary Guard.

40kFSU,

Very nice Marines.

That is a big project, just keep at it and don't get discouraged when you look at the army of grey. Focus on what you have completed and the rest will come.

Cheers,

CB

Thanks gummy. I agree the blue stands out better than the red in red.

I appreciate the advice Captain. Judging by your Elysians, you have experience with large projects. It can get easy to get bogged down. But I am looking forward to it!

So, got some more work done on the Guard. Should have some pics up later today.

Thank you Jonny5. Took a little longer for those pics, but here they come.

The Sanguinary Guard are my eBay rescue project. I like to do one of these for all my armies. When I got them they were intact, but assembly was a mess. Arms didn't match, there were terminator shoulder pads, a couple missing jump pack parts. But I think they are coming along.

I love it!

If you don't mind my asking, how did you get that gold? I always find it really hard to get a really dark and dingy metal that still shines.

Cheers,

Thanks gummy. The gold is ironbreaker followed by a wash of Nuln oil, then Agrax Earthshade, then 2 washes of seraphim sephia.

Paradigm, thanks for stopping by. Now it's a party! Your thread looks great by the way. Awesome Death Watch.

Thanks again Cheese, I think the guard look good too. I prefer the burnished look to the shiny gold look.

Speaking of, got some work done on the first predator.

Meph, thank you. High praise from the Blood Angels master.

Thanks gents. Always a good time to be had on Dakka!

Speaking of good times, I got some work done in the first drop pod. I'm going for a gray interior instead of the usual metal I use. I think it will look cool. Or it may stink. We shall find out soon enough.

And here she is. I think the dark interior worked out nicely. I went with a pretty blank exterior, again different from the other pods I've painted. I haven't painted the battle damage on it because I figure the only wear it would have would come from arriving in orbit. I need to look into how to paint scorch marks. So, a few pics....

Nice looking pod. While the yellow makes a nice contrast, I see it and expect it to have some black hazard stripes. It might just be one of those “I know it’s done, but feels like a WIP because my brain leaps to the next step” things. I also get that when I see things with white, because that’s what I use to prime.

The sang guard are a lovely bronze/gold. Seeing them like that, without the detail makes me want to put them on cake pillars, and maybe get a little bit of verdigitas/weathering on them. Stand them outside a tomb, or in the center of a city square.
