Very nice!
I look forward to see how you solve the "mouth issue".
The originals looks like a bored kid thought "lets make this scary and add some fangs...hmm...maybe more fangs...shoot...just a bit more teeth...oh..well"
I'm in the same boat as MagosBiff90 - no clue how and where to start with alien, biological creatures.
I subscribe and see where your journey leads us
Cheers

now nids is something I wouldn´t have expected from you if I recall your other projects... but since your sculpting is something I am really enjoying... I hope you will sculpt something for this new army project of your too ...

I've always been interested in Tyranids, just never got round to starting any projects with them.
But a new release is a perfect excuse to start one, and there will definitely be plenty of sculpting .

Wow, i just looked at all your stuff are you some sort of ancient god of sculpting? I can't wait to see those nids

@ turtleman: lol, that's very kind of you to say, I dont think I'm good enough to be a god of sculpting yet,
but I'll work on it .

For those waiting to see the start of my Tyranid conversions, I'm afraid you'll have to wait a little bit longer, as my models have yet to arrive.
But as soon as they do, I will be eagerly starting work on this project, and posting my progress here .

In the meantime I've been working on a new fantasy terrain piece, The Wizards Tower.
The finished version will be covered in bricks, including the staircase that winds around the tower to the entrance at the top,
with a lattice of large wooden beams supporting the structure.

Its early days yet, but here's some WIP pics below.

Good structure buddy! Looks great... gonna look super with the masonry..... on ething i would be tempted is to have open wooden treads for the stairs... so you can see through and down between each step..... even have some arms and hands coming through trying to grab the characters anckles as they walk past....... lol!

Looks great though!

As my father once said to me : You cant polish a turd... but you can roll it in glitter!

sweet looking piece!

I like the idea of having arms and hands coming from under the steps, And I was thinking of making a collapsed section of the stone staircase,
that's been replaced by a rickety old wooden one, maybe the hands could reach through there.

And I've just had another Idea, Some kind of beast or creature that lives under the steps, and acts as a guardian for the tower.

Here's a quick update on my wizards tower project, which now has 1200 bricks covering it, and is starting to look a little more like a tower.
Next thing to be bricked up will be the staircase, I hope I've got enough bricks .

Nearly finished all the brick work on the wizards tower, just a few more details to add.
I've also started work sculpting a kind of beast hound creature, that'll be chained under the wooden ramp at the back of the tower,
and act as guardian against any who might trespass there.

It's only a base sculpt so far, still a lot of work to do, but it's a start.

As for my delayed Tyranids, I've been told there will be a further delay as they wait for a delivery (good thing I'm patient) .

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

Brickwork looks great, especially like the internal stairs up to the turret, will there be a heavy wooden hatch on that?

that tower is amazing... one of these days I should get me a mold for making bricks like this too... cutting them up is way too time killing...but you make it very clear that this kind of work is still very justified!

@ Vik: You can always make your own mold like I did, I've now got 4 molds and can make 400 bricks at once, It saves so much time.
I might even do a brick mold tutorial soon, as I've had a few requests for one .

OOOOOOOOO a brick mould tutorial eh...... not to sound to entheusiastic... but YES PLEASE!!! Those bricks look great.... and the timber sections look awesome..... REaally like the idea of the troll in the colapsed section under the stairs....

hmm.... indeed.... a tut would be very educational^^...

and say... how big are your bricks by the way?... scale is my most concern here...that and of course for a certain style range you need that certain gnawed off look too...

Made in gb
Aspirant Tech-Adept

@ Vik: The bricks are 15mm by 10mm, and 8mm thick.
And here's one next to a Space Marine for reference,
at this scale there closer to large building blocks than bricks.

Thats really cool, well done mate . It's huge, must weigh a ton! even though most of it is foamboard and balsa (btw I really love those wood supports).

That little critter is looking ace.

@ OneManNoodles: The weight is actually not that bad, It's no where near as heavy as I thought it would be,
I was worried I might need a crane to lift it .

I've made a little more progress with the beast creature sculpt, and I really do need a name for it (any Ideas?).

What was he history behind th beast? I think I missed it . Was it an extradimensional critter attracted by the magic, is it a conjured guardian, or was it th magicians cat that decided to hop up on the table at the wrong time.

If 1, then Gygax (yes I played d&d hen I was younger)
If 2, the simply "the guardian"
If 3, then spot

Managed to finish a bit more work on the Wizards Tower, you can see from the pics below what it looks like at the moment.
The basic shape is more or less finished, next thing to add are the details, and to start work on the base.

Taking a break from the tower, I decide to work on one of the unfinished jobs for my Necron Tesseract Vault Conversion,
which involved cutting out over 100 leg shapes for my Canoptek Leach's, (and yes it was very time consuming )
