Any note of the sculptor of the upgrade set? I have me suspicions.

I would be floored if your suspicions turned out to be incorrect...

Well, they tally with RobertsMinis hints anyway. And 'suspicions' might be the wrong word when you're about 97% certain.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

I can't really blame him, he has a style that showed in his LOTR miniatures. I blame the person who assigned the job to him that his style was so obviously unsuited for.

I feel almost the same about this situation, and rose-tinted nostalgia.

Did anyone figure out how to purchase these outlaw bits from the US? I expected Brigade might have them, but alas, it doesn't seem to be the case.

I searched on Brigade's site for a bit and I don't see them. Perhaps it's a staggered release with US getting them after stock arrives from initial release?

It seems like there's always a lag between stuff going up on the North Star website and the same releases appearing on the Brigade website. We may see them there yet.

Which outlaw bits?

I don't always get told of new items before they are announced. And yes there is typically a lag as we order typically 1x per month - sometimes more near shows - and it takes 2-3 weeks to cast our restocks and new items stock. Of course we try to minimize any lag but it is not always possible.

If it is any consolation, I've not seen them on the Northstar site either yet

Hey there, and thanks for the response. As the updates on pg41 of this thread mention, Frostgrave is now doing "upgrade kits". So I would buy a box of Frostgrave soldiers, but also a "Forest Outlaws" kit (the first of supposedly several kits to come), which let me build them with new options.

Not here it hadn't.
Looks like the Pre-order is a few months out then. The ones they're showing there look like mutant skaven.. goblin.. things.. I'll still be picking up a box. Just the one though because the pictures make it really hard to be sure of the quality of this kit :/

I don't "dislike" them, but I don't love them. I know people are kind of love/hate on the other kits, but I adore their modularity. Big big fan of the soldiers, and I like the cultists.

These... eh... but I do want to keep supporting a great game, so i'll probably "back" this once it hits Brigade.

Very nice - it captures what I imagine the city to look like.. grand stair cases, statues and courtyards.. rather than a collection of small ruined buildings ala Mordheim.

Edit: Of course, a 3x3 table full of terrain like that isn't exactly portable!

That's pretty neat. I just ordered the Frostgrave rulebook from Warlord, who gave me a $15 coupon through e-mail randomly. Win!

I'll probably pick up the expansions and stuff once I get the book. Does anyone have suggestions for must-buy purchases and things that are perhaps worth avoiding?

Also, do we know if the Gnolls are going to be a warband with special rules or are they just going to be a "counts as" type situation?

I've only got the Thaw of the Lich Lord expansion, and I like it a lot. It includes four new classes, a few new spells, some new magic items, and a very atmospheric full-length campaign. The new classes seem reasonably balanced, except that the bard is a little weak, and the mule (basically a dude who carries stuff for you) makes the apothecary (from the basic book) seem somewhat overpriced. That said, the bard would be handy against an opponent who brings a lot of Will save type spells, so he may be situationally necessary as a useful balance against some opponents.

All that said, I think you could happily play a couple of games a week for several months before feeling the need for the 2nd book, so it's not really a must-have.

I do like the game enough that I will likely pick up the print compilation of the various PDF supplements.

The Apothecary receives a free healing potion at the start of each game. RAW you can take any healing potions he didn't use during the game and put them in the Warbands Bank. The Apothecary pays for himself very quickly.

Really? Now I had only been reading the apothecary as getting one healing potion... a free one each game is way better! Good spot.

I don't think I ever heard about it being a free potion PER game either. Interesting.

The Apothecary only gets a new potion on games that he doesn't already have one in his possession. He always starts a battle with one.

The trick is to take any unused potion from him in the post game upkeep. Just put the potion in the vault.

If he did not use it, and you do not take it away from him in the post game, he still has it next game, and won't brew a new one.

I saw some fantastic terrain for Frostgrave - a ruined tower - in a Salute preview... Did someone see it in person at Salute, and maybe have pics or a link to the vendor?
