Uhh but it is being manufactured by Dust Studios though so that means McVey is only make the sculpts not producing them correct? I dont know exactly how the production process works but isnt that better news? Dust studios products good minis (from what I have).

It depends on what your expectations are. If you want to play a board game and don't intend to bother painting pieces/don't care much - you are blessed and I envy you. If you on the other hand find the sculpts amazing and want to paint up a few display pieces the material is an issue as is being discussed here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/599178.page

In short, it's not so much the fidelity to the master sculpts, as the loss of details can reach acceptible levels if done well, but more an issue of working with the material.
In so far I have not seen any PVC figures I think are worth the hassle unless you just want them for gaming purposes.

Well I might just use it as a board game (slowly working to convert friends into wargamers and this may help along with all the other recent board games I have). As for painting I am currently a terrible painter and dont paint my minis, (except I get Infinity models painted cause... they are beautiful), but I plan to improve my painting later this summer by painting some of my brothers mantic minis, I feel like I can afford to use them as learning material, plus my brother just wants them painted to any quality. One day I might consider these models when I have some skill.... one day...

Everyone is a terrible painter at first

If I may offer some advice - while it sounds logical to start off with crappy quality minis for the hobby aspect of gaming, it can have the adverse effect of you going "I friggin hate this I give up". It's like a baptism by fire While you might come out the other side with a lot of skill, I highly recommend picking up a few "nice" models first that won't be too daunting of a task. For some reason I am assuming your brother's mantic figures are of the restic variety - mantics poly styrene plastic are fine.

To that end any pack of polystyrene figures from whatever brand that sort of jumps out at you will do. Wargames Factory has some really cheap good quality stuff if you want to practice painting.

Yea, I agree. It is a LOT easier to make a good figure look passable than a bad one. Even good painters don't buy crap models thinking 'Hey, I will correct it with paint!' You have to hire people to work that kind of blood magic.

Thanks for the advice guys. I suppose I can find some better quality minis to paint. I just figured to start with lower quality stuff cause I am going to ruin the first few I paint for sure as I try to learn the basic techniques... but if the better method is to paint better quality stuff then I will give it ago. I suppose for the first few I would not intend to make them look "good", I would just use them as tests on how certain styles/paints look. I still have a ways to go. Well I guess I will be leaving the models in The Others bare till I can improve.

Yep, inexpensive but quality models like WGF's plastics and even a lot of Reaper's Bones line fit the bill of not breaking the bank but also being some very nice models to paint.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another quick bit of advice - good places to start are with unarmoured skeletons, "fully furred" models where the fur is sculpted on, and fully-armoured models.

Great places to get the following techniques down pat:

Base coat -> Drybrush
Base coat -> Ink Wash/Glaze

and then onto:

Base Coat -> Drybrush -> Ink Wash/Glaze

Even

Base coat -> Dip

These is quite a good guide to using inks to colour metallics (and other things):
http://admin.thearmypainter.com/files/downloads/pdf/GuideToUsingWarpaints.pdf

All of these techniques are pretty basic, but they're ones that you'll continue to use even as you improve and get better and better - so good ones to master early.

I got back into the hobby of modeling and painting with Sedition Wars.

God help me, I did not know what I was in for.

I still haven't painted a single thing from that box. Barzam did, but I haven't touched a brush to any of them yet.

Then I went to the opposite end of the spectrum and started buying Mierce stuff, and forcing myself to try and be a decent painter.

Some day I will return to McVey's work- maybe with this upcoming game!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I have been looking at some of the dreamforge stuff from Wargames Factory. I suppose that is probably a better place to start ect. Also thanks for the paint tricks and stuff. I will try to give those a shot. Now I just need to find time... I guess I will have some time before this comes out lol

yeh it is not like KD came up with the concept. They just do it better than most.

I was thinking more along the lines of breasts and unmentionables all over the model like KD has done before. I am not aware of nor do I remember any such Lovecraftian creatures. Body Horror has been around long before Lovecraft.

That mouth reminds me of this movie, for a reason:

I like the overall direction of the miniatures but that last one in particular is sending a shiver down my spine because I can already imagine what a soft, emaciated and flash-covered version of that sculpt (e.g. the retail version) might look like.

Damn it, please be good..

That screen cap just made me think of a bad dating site. "Karl loves to fetch frisbees on the beach while on a long walk with his master. He also enjoys wine, but prefers large quantities as opposed to quality. Unfortunately Karl is currently unavailable to date as his last date gave him an original first print of "how to teach old dogs new tricks", and he died of a paper cut as the leafs o the book were gilt with silver "

Hmm I guess I was hoping the playable characters would be the equivalent of CoC investigators rather than the BPRD :(

That's a cool new preview, but I for one would rather have X-COM over BPRD.
