Why would a Son of Horus bear Serpent Lodge iconography, anyway?

Because the Serpent Lodge is where Horus fell to chaos, so it's a fairly significant landmark... It's not just 'a place they once went'.

Also, the weird spiky eye tjing the Reavers have on their shoulder pads is the 'Cthonian Serpent Glyph' so it seems serpents are a thing with the SoH.

I'm curious as to what's going to be in the Vraks reprint. I really enjoyed the fluff in those books, but hasn't almost all the rules content been parceled out elsewhere and updated? Rengades were just redone, the Red Scorpions have their rules in Anphelion, there's just Hector Rex, the campaign itself and, I imagine, the Death Korps Siege Regiment?

If the Siege Regiment gets updated, I hope they FAQ the Assault Brigade to bring the points/orders in line with the Guard codex; within my group I've just converted things myself (when vanilla unit, use values from IG codex, compared orders from 5th edition and IA13 versus IG 6th edition to figure out which orders I should be using/not using, etc) but it'd be easier for dealing with pick-up games or others to have something "official" which doesn't leave me at any more of a handicap than I'm already paying.

Of course, that implies GW hasn't begun to enforce their "no free content" embargo on FW; there's been quite the dearth of pdfing coming out of them as of late compared to yesteryear, almost nothing since 7th dropped.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Have a look at Abaddon's right shoulder pad:

There is a snake around the eye icon.

A lso have a look at page 83 of "Betrayal". There are two snakes around the Icon of the IIIrd Battle Company of the SoH Legion.
I think I've seen even more examples.

But I will say that any snake stuff is probably more to do with them turning traitor and the call about the Serpent lodge is likely a good one, rather than explicitly Legion related.

Oh, sorry mate! I mixed that up. That's what you wrote though:

 Azreal13 wrote:

No connection with serpents or similar, that's very much AL territory.
I think the whole connection with serpents is more to do with a metaphor for traitorous behaviour, it isn't really part of Legion iconography.

So I'm still pointing out that (regarding the two examples I brought up) the snakes are indeed a part of the Legion's iconography. Yet I am sure they had the metaphor for traitorous behaviour in mind, too

No, what I'm saying is you won't find snakes on Garviel Loken because he's a SoH Legionnaire who didn't turn traitor, it's not a SoH thing, it's a traitor thing.

Would be interesting to see if other Legions with traitorous elements have any serpents incorporated, or do in the future.

Ah, I see. Not sure if I would agree on this though. Could very well be a Cthonian thing and Terra bound guys like Loken just don't get it. On the other hand you could could be right of course. After the introduction of the Serpent lodge the Symbol of the Snake spread among the Traitors across the legions (Traitor Marines from other Legions sans AL using it would be a good proof indeed) ... this requires further research I guess

Erm, looking forward to the pictures of the Open Day of course!

It's also worth mentioning that Horus' armor is called "The Serpent's Scale." I think the whole serpent motif has to do with how he's kind of a parallel for the biblical Satan; the best angel/primarch who fell from grace and rebelled against God/the Emperor. Snakes are heavily associated with the Devil and treachery in general.

Loving all the new stuff. I'm wondering if that Alpha Legion model would look better with a better paint job. That said, I love everything about it except the mask.

I do know some other traitor legions sometimes had the Eye of Horus on their armour, to show their alligence. I think there was one IH clan that did, before Horus declared his traitorness. I've not seen any snakes in other legions but that doesn't mean they aren't there, and frankly I think it's a bloody cool idea using the snake motif for traitors. If I could sculpt or paint well, I'd so incorporate it into my Heresy stuff.

But the Sons of Horus definitely have a (rather subtle I grant you) snake theme, like Darth Bob says, probably to do with Satan.

But yes, off topic... Looking forward to seeing some Book V spoilers! Wish I was actually going.

I apologise, the comment was aimed at FW, not yourself, although I'm very confused as to how the way siege was spelt in the photo has changed. Did they send more than one email batch?

Yes, many times over.

And in the spirit of repeating things:

One gun on the turret is fine, it just needs a bigger gun. Right now it looks too much like the DKoK vanquisher cannon and nowhere near big enough for the main gun on a superheavy. I don't know why they changed it from the original rulebook design.

(And IMO it should have the single large fuel tanks on the back instead of the two small ones, but FW seems to have abandoned that with all of their recent Baneblade variants.)

Gotta say I'm firmly in the "new version looks better" camp. As I mentioned previously, this looks like a new variant of tank rather than a Baneblade with sponsons hodgepodged all over it. In my opinion, at least.

Now to chalk that up to the "expensive models to get before I die" list.

Probably because the large fuel tanks are large pieces of resin replacing a perfectly functional plastic part of the model.

I guess I will be adding a Solar Auxilia force after all. It was the Stormhammer and rapier batteries that did me in. Probably paint them to match my mechanicus units though, Green with grey and gold trim.

Well yeah, the kit comes with two sets of plastic double drums. Why waste resin on two big drums?

And as someone who owns two 100% resin Baneblade hulls, believe me when I say the plastic ones are always superior.

As always, the middle ground is the better option. You don't need to have the quadruple sponsons, each with its own turret to make the Stormblade the Stormblade. Those Multi-laser banks are a perfectly serviceable (and perhaps an even more logical) replacement.

But it needs the double turret.

Why waste resin on the two big drums on the Shadowsword/Stormblade/Stormsword kits (the conversion parts for the plastic Baneblade)? Because it looks better IMO.

We have that already, it's called the Macharius Vanquisher and its gun is way too light to be the main gun on a Baneblade-size tank. Even with a double turret for the primary gun it still needs to be bigger.

Blood and skulls industries does a nice big 1 piece fuel tank you can easily replace the plastic ones with. Problem solved.

I take it that there's a distinct possibility that FW will make an Astartes Stormhammer if this one is SA?

I'd say doubtful. The Stormhammer is basically a SA variant Baneblade, while the Astartes have the Fellblade/Glaive/Falchion as their variants.

I wonder if FW will justify the old epic model as being a downgraded Stormhammer- having lost the STC for the fellblade, many lesser imitators were created, often using multiple sponsons and paired turrets with lesser battlecannons to imitate the role of the SA (looks like a ryza pattern, at least the gun barrels) Stormhammer.

I like everything except those Ogryns (but I don't like GW Ogres/Ogryns in general). The Rapiers are awesome and I think the Quad Mortar could work well as a Thunderfire Cannon stand in.
