Well, I've not gotten to the beard-growing stage (and it'd be pretty unlikely me sprouting a full-blown dwarven beard in six weeks), so I have a fake dwarf beard

There we go, that was what I was thinking, the only other fate worse than that would be the wife dragging them to a poetry recital of the Vogonic variety.
There we go, that was what I was thinking, the only other fate worse than that would be the wife dragging them to a poetry recital of the Vogonic variety.
in fact, there are two worse poets- Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings of Greenbridge, Essex, and Grunthos the Flatulent, of the Azgoths of Kria.
Shouldn't we dispatch a rescue mission or something? Maybe he's counting on us... Do we have any active agents in that region?
PS Shrike, logically Arven could be around Rivendell that time, but random elf fits fine anyway ) Just don't forget the pointy ears, so some orc can cut them off muhahaha... We used to collect elf ears during live rpgs when I was young and healthy to run in the woods in full metal armour...
You know, I always thought that Humans were one of the only races that could ever actually appreciate Vogon poetry- for everyone else, the somewhat random nature of it is physically painful, and I imagine that the Vogons, despite their Beurocratic nature, simply make-up half the words they use. Arthur should've started reciting Lewis Carrol right back at them, see how they like that!
If Vik was eaten whole, as in swallowed, we can in fact send a rescue team in with grapnels and rapelling lines. If he was chewed on, we shall have to put him in the rivet-cloner
I heard that this Outside is pretty large... we'll need a Vik-detector of some kind to find his remains... If he's still salvageable we can make a rivet-cop or something. An in-build rivetgun will be a nice addition i think...

Bubble i just saw you Halloween costume and i have to thank you for two reasons.
1) thank you for picking a dutch beer brand.
2) thank god for that brand of beer. i needed to cool my finger last Sunday and they didn't had ice packs so a nice cold beer was my only salvation to bad my finger was broken so it didn't really help but everybody loves beer.
and i made my wife and kids all convert to sponge bob too! i think sponge bob is verging on the religious... really... i´ve seen bloody stupider things worshiped

i tried to add some printouts (lousy ones at that) to bring a certain advertisment air to the arena... well... i think on my next projects i should do it differently... but well... you live you learn...probably...hopefully^^
now that this is done... i am looking forward to start a new project... and it will be a tank...gosh... it has been so long... plan is to make it über big...^^ a transport and such thing...with heavy weapons and lots of transport capacity... need to figure out if i do my own trackshoes or use some GW bitz i have... depends on the amount of the stuff i have atm... well mates... that´s all for now...
Well done Vik. Looks good.
I like the adverts, look like holographic projections. And I like the block things that appear to be popping up all over the arena floor. And pong, lol.
thanks mate... i am actually glad i can call this one finished... it was really bugging me the last coupla days... hopefully i can now start something fresh and funny^^

Yeah, photos always seem to do that. You spend your time painting away, nose almost touching the model, and then you sit back, happy that it is painted to the best of your ability and looks perfect...you take a photo and THEN you see all the rough edges and want to pull your hair out.
But if they look that good on here, then they must look perfect IRL.
And in the future, all holo-screens look a bit spluttery, who wants HD tv when you can have rough holographic displays...

Well, atleast there's not moldlines there to f**k up the pic.
and that arena looks really great Vik! gotta say that i love the adds too! and for the tank project, make it able to carry a baneblade! and a landingpad for a valkyrie or a stormtalon! after all.. you said uber *insert two dots above U* big.

Great finished product! It's the attention to detail that really makes this arena awesome: the pong jumbotron, the advertisements, and I especially love the floating readerboard

so ladies and gentlemen...
the übertransport is being in its planning phase...
as you will see in these pics the tracks alone are 25 cm to 8cm (15" to 3.15") big and the landing platform you see in the last pic is 16 cm in diameter (6.3")...
now to some questions... i try to solve the riddle of how to make the tracks...again... the whole thing should be a plasticcard tank... so i either use prefabricated tracks... or scratchbuild them... just for size comparrission i added three different thicknesses of tracks to the pattern of the tracksystems i sketched... what would be your choice for such a really heavy lifter? for a massive troop transporter that is even capable to carry a flyer? single, twice or third? answers to this are of high imprortance to any further planning on my side...!!!!
also... i way back then got in my first care package of dave an aquilla made by him... the landing platform will be the chance to use this nice lil present finally...
Good job on the arena man, looks great, and the ads & pong are classy indeed Good job all over buddy!
Mobile landing pad is a great idea for a tank, love to see your take on this. For the tracks I think it's going to have to be triple to look like it takes a flyer as well.
Yeah, doubled looks good on a chimmy or a russ, but even on a bigger hull it's not going to look like it can take tank and flyer and fuel and whatever else..

what are your thoughts?
The first thing I'd look at is R/C tank tracks from ebay or otherwise, they are usually flexible or rubber (as they need to be replaced) and come very large... so you wouldn't have to double up. Could save a lot of trouble I think for something carrying a flyer I'd expect baneblade size tracks at least.
thanks meade... banebalde tracks are the probably the right size... tho i have to say... i never had them in my hands yet... so only speculations on my part^^
and funny you should mention RC tracks... found some the other minute on ebay too... tho i am not that sold with rubber tracks... that just feels wrong for me...
what size... are the baneblade tracks by the way? i don´t have any measurements...
You can get 1/16 panther tank tracks for 15 bucks not sure what the size comes out to exactly but I know it's big... Not sure how it would cost for the rhino tracks, but my guess would be that you would need many sets and it might add up fast...
dsteingass wrote: I just don't see how you would be able to scratchbuild that Intricate interlocking shape repeatedly and make them all look the same...
yup... that is my biggest fear too... that is in fact a job that just screams for casting... dang... again into that hurting wound...
thanks comrade!
and didde... i fear that LR tracks are still too small...
you could always run double tracks two sets per side and use the land raider still or you can be crazy and use the leman russ ones and make it three wide might get pricey but an option none the less
Very cool indeed and great to see finished product!
I used doubled chimera tracks for my scratchbuilt baneblade:
I have both chimmy and babeblade tracks kicking about, pm me your address and I'll send you an early Xmas prezzie.
Hey Vik!
I'm glad you were able to finish your project - the arena looks super cool and the advertisements are just the "dot above the i" as we Germans say Nice touch.
In regards to your new Übertransport: This is a great project and I look forward to your build. It reminds me a lot of my old Scarabeus (looked more like a SW Sandcrawler), and I agree, the wider the tracks, the more realistic it will be. Baneblade tracks won't be wide enough, it will look flimsy. Double Baneblade at least, but that's waaaaay too much cash in the throat of GW I love Meade's posted tracks on Ebay 1/16 seem just to be the right size, and those Tiger tracks are just plain S E X Y Anyway, I'm sure you'll have a great project here.
Cheers
Klaus
Or you could rivet them painstakingly by hand... your choice
lol... well i am sitting between chairs^^ i found these on my own yester night^^ too... they are on my research list on ebay now... and yes... i picture the tracks enourmous too they have to be...^^

a your post just slipped in between me answering the above...
thank you for the high praise...!
indeed a great project^^ and thanks for the hint on the tracks... i think i am now nearing a decision... just need to make the measurements... two tracks should hopefully suffice i think then... and i have to agree the amount of banebalde tracks would be enourmous too... the 1/16 have a great appeal to me atm too... ah decisions, decisions^^
OH... and would you mind showing your Scarabeus here? i can´t recall that one anymore...

So basically a huge transported with an internal elevator and all kinds of funny stuff :-P
I even had a sick bay with operating table on the side, that could be opened...
Dude Klaus! That is awesome! I especially love the commander's dias/ring thing, it looks like a Submarine Periscope/sensor rig would be there giving the Commander a great command & Control position!
hey klaus! don´t tell me you scraped that model??? the first pic here reminded me a lot of one of my old playmobil space stations... very homely look.... i like the sixties vibe to that model... and the sheer size is also something that makes me like it instantly^^...some of the pics in the gallery make it look like a barbie van for 40k... you know, where you could pull apart or just detach the walls and you have basically a dolly house then... thus your tank then gets instant diorama feel! if it is still alive you should revisit that model for sure!!! would love to see that one finished!
speaking of finished... well i certainly haven´t...that would be too early but i did work quite motivated and energetic on the übertransport! and how i did...well...ask me... "how energetic did you work on the übertransport?" ...me: "quite so"...
i cut the tracksystems from PC and brought the size and shape into a reality i then cut out holes for the sponsons... only to later on seal them but around the sponsons i´ve built... i think i will dremel out the wholes for the guns then...(look for the pics... if i talk gibberish here...the pics at least will explain )
and then i worked on creating the main body... i created a substructure to better get everything as sturdy as possible... i have these L-shaped rods from our local hardware store... dead cheap really... and these i cut to size to make the lil L-shaped connectors... and i then used an I- beam rod to further stabablize the body...well here are the pics...:
by the way... for all of you that suggested that i shoould get me the 1/16 tank tracks... well i did... hopefully i get them soon^^ i think these will be awesome on that tank^^ and it will save me literally ages of scratchbuilding time^^ which i will now invest in detailing that beast^^
that lil warping you see will get fixed once the othe plates are in place... it is the main hull of the tank... which later on will support the weight of the landing platform and will in essence "hold" the tracks... it will get a ramp in the front... to have as many soldiers be able to get out at once... so it will have exits on three sides... left right and front... on the back it will have the boiler again... tho i am still trying to figure out how to do that... as it is a steampunk transport the steam clouds could be hazardous for the flyer... i thought maybe have the exhaust pipes being rather like car exhausts facing backwards than the classic steam stacks...facing upwards.......
atm... the sponsons are fully closed... i need to reopen them once everything is all sealed and cured properly... then i have to add the guns... this will be a toughy as i have to develop a weaponssystem... probably gatlings... i never can get enough of these^^
Errrrrrmmmmm now that is a conundrum you could go the wheel barrow route if you get what I mean ……… the handle bars you could add some kind of fans on the edge of the steam stacks to divert the smoke maybe.
I see your point once the plates are in place should stop the warping, have you got a drawing as to the design or is it coming straight from your crazy mind
lone dirty dog wrote:Errrrrrmmmmm now that is a conundrum you could go the wheel barrow route if you get what I mean ……… the handle bars you could add some kind of fans on the edge of the steam stacks to divert the smoke maybe.

Also what aircraft will be using this landing pad
part sketch planned and part crazy mind and well... i will have to figure out what kind of flyer... a gyrocopter size should work after all... maybe i convert a killakopta i still have or i build something out of the blue too... probably gonna be the latter^^
cormadepanda wrote:that is interesting. Its a landing pad too? as far as exhaustion goes, put in the butt usually works.
yup... landing pad too... or better...mainly... its a mobile landing platform... with mega trasport capacities in the belly...so could function as a small means to get a bigger footslogger platoon straight to a certain objective... with enough firepower to hold out for some time... tho that will get figured out in the coming days...
and we´ll see about the exhausts when we get there^^
I dunno, I think your sponsons need to be able to provide your close range anti-infantry support more than anti-armor or transport-popping. Of course, if you have more than one sponson on each side, you could do both.

help me here my friends...i thought punishers would be the 40k equivalent of gatling gun? or am i in the wrong here?
i think a good mixture of both anti infantry and anti heavy would be a good choice... what do you think? and i do have two sponsons on each side... so that is good, right?... and how would two punichers as a twin linked set fit into a sponson? has that been done yet? pics would be nice
and thanks RW
i think i will need to redo the sponsons atm... there is something fishy about the build... currently even if open i think they would be not that good in providing enough coverage ...opinions?... oh and tomorrow i will have the track sets in my hand... that was really fast... they would have been here even today... but my home was without anyone to take the package for me... so the delivery guy only left a card.... bugger...
Yep, Punishers are the 40k equivalent to miniguns Remember, your sponsons are supposed to have a limited fire arc, so I wouldn't sweat it if they don't swivel 180 degrees. If you have two on each side, it'll kick ass.
so I wouldn't sweat it if they don't swivel 180 degrees. If you have two on each side, it'll kick ass.
actually that is my fear... the side ramps should have enough room but also enough coverage from the guns...
i am atm thinking about not making sponsons but rather inbuilt fireing holes so to speak... with the guns inside... bringing the guns to nearing a 180° radius...
Great start on your tank! Any chance of a scale pic?
Originally I had some CC that would have sounded like this: "I would refrain from blending anti infantry and anti tank weaponry. Units can only target one enemy unit per turn. That is, of course, unless it will be a super heavy" Not sure how I thought the über transport would have ever fit in as a non super heavy vehicle
will try to make a somewhat scaleshot... will be difficult tho... maybe with a dread and a soldier... this should be helpful?
and indeed... super heavy... or rather a self relying tank... with air support on it´s own... one for everything... it only needs some scubba divers then it has everything

On that note, you fellows have no doubt heard this before, but how do you make good rivets? I don't have a working leather puncher (my Dad has clogged his with leather pieces), the hole puncher I have cuts them a bit big, and otherwise I'll have to you square ones cut with clippers!

Haha those tracks are truly wide! If they are too wide it seems like you could even cut one tread off the side... instead of a 'triple wide' would be a 'double wide'. But if you build the tank around it and built a bigger skirt around the sides probably be worth it... just my 2 cents
the tracks will be kept as is... i can cut them down to length tho...
and well... depends on your definition of cheap... the lil something costed 6.19 €´s so... dunno how much that would be in the US... but yeah... aquarium scenic deco can make awesome stuff for terrain... i dunno why but many pieces are actually quite in scale with 40k... it is a real puzzler why this is the case... a secret conspiration against GW maybe??? who knows... but i guess the government will hush it up...

...You are a brave man Vik... if in a few weeks you die mysteriously in a 'car accident' or 'heart attack' we will remember you for your courage...
And you can rest assured I will troll local pet shops to see when their scenery goes on clearance.
Those treads are great looking Vik! The columns are destined to be something great too!
It makes me think of the hanger deck on the Battlestar Galactica, but smaller.
yep... that is the start of it... tomorrow i will show you a problem i have...better to be explained with pics tho...
the tracks are identical... so if i would arange them symetrically then one would "face" backwards and the other would face onwards... am i too complicated in my thoughts?

i think i have to make some closeup explaining pics for you all... then i will take in your final judgements of this sorry affair
life is quite busy when you are working... so feeling low and drained again... no hobby work done... but i have at least bought some much needed L-shaped construction rods for the tracks, so with a little go(O)dwill i might be able to do some constructive work on them tomorrow^^

cheerio!
Sorry to hear it vik! Let us know what's up with the tracks.
What I was going to say I think I saw that pic on Dave's blog before, what kind of thing did you have In mind? Plus that's a bit too small of my estimating is ok

Meade wrote: wtf is that last pic? some kind of testing device? that they just had to make it in that shape.
It appears to be a scaled up ballistics chamber for mobile artillery. Such things are common for testing handguns/rifles, it catches the bullet (usually in water) so it can be analyzed after leaving the barrel. They're commonly used in ballistics forensics labs for matching rifling patterns. This is just a really big one.
I'd wager that the protrusions for the side are for capturing the gasses leaving the muzzle-break to the sides.
The New Tank looks promising Vik, I knew you couldn't keep away from rivets for long..;-). Will it be sporting camo ala shazo or a Victorianna steampunk vibe ?
by the way... work issues have made me neglect your wonderful work for way too long... your recent updates haven´t been unnoticed by me.... but everything you produce needs far more thinking and time for thinking that i haven´t felt up to the task to really understand and cherish it as it needs it... be sure that soon i will be joining you over on your thread again...
oh...and even tho i had a school day today and i coud have done hobby work... i still have nothing productive/constructive to show you all... tho...my wife supports me in so many ways... that she suplied me with a big helping of thread spools(metal) that will be my sprocketwheels for the hopefully soon build tracksystems... it is a vast amount of those spools...got fifty from her... and we devoted this evening by spinning off and on again the threads of these to other bigger bobbins.... i can see now that this was a new kind of rivet- zen... only it didn´t involve rivets at all but threads
so i have to postpone any picturesque updates for tonight...again...sorry guys...
Like Starscream to my Megatron, once again you have failed me...
Nah, don't apologise about lack of pics mate, happens to all of us at times. As long as, y'know, there's something soon...
well... but it leaves you with a very sore scrolling finger if you want to read it all through... and might make your brain numb... it´s a known after effect

i am not dead... tho sometimes i feel like as if i am already... worklife sure is a killer... add schoollife and homeworks... household duties and familylife nad you go yourself a nice (:waahg hobby killer...
well i still ain´t dead
to prove this i show you this:
the landingplatfrom:
made from mostly PC that was sent to me by dave in a long and almost forgotten time this is for you dave!!! i finally found a way to use your aquilla^^
then...tracks are shaping up...:
to this:
as for tracks... there was that nasty issue with the symetry...
well here this might explain my concerns:
compare this:
to this:
if this still isn´t explaining enough... i will show you next time the underside of these tracks... it will solve everything...
well... this is just a short call... tomorrow i will be back...all chatty and stuff
seems like where the holes line up with the wheels (in the motorized version) would be in an un-symmetrical place if he lines them up like the second pic to put on the tank.
there are some solutions I think... if vic hasn't figured it out already... I would do it the lazy way, hide the tracks on the top of the vehicle to begin with (i think you will be covering them with the landing pad already) and use mud or heavy weathering to fill in the gaps that would normally connect to the motorized tank, so the place where the holes are appear like the rest of the track. And snip off the tabs (in the visible part of the track, shouldnt be too much work) all the way on the right side of it.
Vik, this tank has me interested (as does the rest of your work) - love me a bit of plasticard scratchbuild ! Looking great already at the early stages.
I've got a 1:16 Heng Long Tiger with metal tracks, and they are left and right versions which mirror each other - so looks like you got 2x left or right here - or is it one track cut in half? Have you considered getting an old HL Tiger off ebay and stripping it back - then you could have it radio controlled
This might be 1:6 but it's way cool... Check out the guy riding it towards the end...
Awesome work this is going to be a real beast great use of that Aquila as well mate I have to agree with the early post it looks like some one has sent you the wrong set of tracks.
You have to many of the same side track, contact the guy on ebay and tell them what has happened, you might get a whole new set for free
Ah, so that is apparently normal for that to happen with the tracks, I see now. Odd for asymetry, but I guess that is just the way of it with such tracks and their manufacturers

hmmm.... interesting idea.... trackguards are still something i have to decide if i want them... tho it seems the best way to go... thanks mate!

an RC tank of my creation would be cool... and something i actually fancied for quite some time^^... and thanks for your comparrision shots! very helpful... oh... and welcome here mister! i hope you will be a regular from now on!!!
cormadepanda wrote:landing pad is excellent vik!

dsteingass wrote:That's cool Vik. Although I still have no idea what you are on about with the tracks?
Making some serious progress there, Vik! About how big is the landing platform? Are you going to scratchbuild a flyer to land on it?
thank you rawson... and i will hopefully be able to come up with some scale comparrission shots at the end of the week... and yes... it will have a flyer soon...that is able to land on that platform... either i scratchbuild a new model... or use a helicopter model my wife recently bought me of a second hand shop... its a russian model of a heli i am not that used to... dunno if it is big enough... it´s 1:48 scale... and if i am able to convert it to steampunk...remains to be seen....
anyways.... no updates for today.... hopefully i get something this week done... as a matter of fact...i should be doing two homeworks for school... but atm i can´t be ar...ed to to them....

I tend to lurk for a while then pop up with a bit of witty banter / exceptionally insightful comment / totally useless facts [delete as necessary]. I will though endeavour to keep up a regular appearance on your wonderful blog - did attempt to read from the start a while back but it was too much for me - an overload of cool 'stuff' - but one day I will catch-up on all your stuff
I think based on what ruglud posted, it's not a manufacturer mistake the tracks just come like that. Honestly that tiger tank looks awesome like it is, if you zero in on the detail of the tracks they are slightly different from each other... but with a heavy caking of mud filling up the cracks you would hardly be able to tell the difference... IMO. And the tracks would pretty much look good.
Now I'm being tempted by motorized tanks... as if my obsession with LED lit tanks is not bad enough...
Some more tracks for you... Can never have too many!
ClodDude wrote: I've dug into my Tank Parts drawer and pulled up the tracks I have for some comparison views.
From top to bottom/right to left (all 1/16 except for Blizzard): M41 metal, M26 metal, Tiger plastic, M41 plastic, Blizzard. The tank tracks are all 1/16 scale and range from 1.5 to 1.75 inches wide, while the Blizzard tracks are 4 inches
The Tiger 1 uses the same track type on both sides, one running up, the other running down so to say. I have a Tamiya kit that tells you to assemble one set of tracks as shown, then to do the others in the opposite direction.
edit.
Nothing wrong with that set of tracks, Tiger 1 tanks just were that way.
Oy, I haven't checked this blog for ages Your Übertransport is definetely going to look grand and impressive vik.... the amount of rivets you'll put on it... can't wait to see!
ha... wait till you get your ...er...can´t remember when promised price for that cookie competition.... well... it is almost finsihed...and i mean almost!!! gimme till the end of the week!
i am still interested in this hobby...if you would have thought otherwise due to my current lack of presence here....
work, family, and the new christmas feeling... that great devourer of available time for hobby use... kept me atm from being here...
also the big shame of not being able to contribute anything new...
well about to amend for that at least...
see...i come back with an update!
promised even scaleshopts a while ago...look at the end of that update...
so... here is a mock up of the tracksystem how it should look in the end with the treads attached... only mockup still...
also the angular sponsons have been pried off as they gave me the creeps... instead i got me a coupla plastic chrsitmas tree balls and cut them in half ... to be replaced as new halfsperic sponsons... i hope this will help to bring along the more archaic look of steampunk...also they will rpovide lots of more coverage for the guns...
and
then the scale shots... a sort of family shot of all my already finished tanks... together with my IG conversions...
well... that´s that for now... cheerio...and good day to you all...!
dsteingass wrote:That's just Massive Vik! The landing pad looks great on those big-ass treads too!
actually after making those pics... well i think it needs to get made thicker still... atm it looks as if it would warp if an actual flyer would land there... no viable structural integrity atm... but i will fix that for sure
MrMerlin wrote:That'sgoing to be a grand tank, Vik! Where did you get the threads again?
that was the seller i got the tracks from... but i bought them not via ebay... instead i phoned the guy of the shop... got the tracks this way even a bit cheaper
Meade wrote:LOVE the new sponsons vik! what guns are going in them?
when asked this question the instant answer is always... gatlings ... tho it remains t be seen if i am able to get the barrels look right... somehow the really fitting look i was never really able to get right...yet...
shasolenzabi wrote:Looking good Vik! I was thinking a more 90-100mm wide chassis? or is it the massive treads throwing me off kilter?
well the landing pad is 16cm in diameter...the lenght of the tank all in all atm is 25 cm... width is a bit more than 20 cm... which is a bit of a problem as it is nearing the tanks dimensions to look almost like a square...maybe stacks and such things like trench rails will fix that outline issue...
cormadepanda wrote:Vik, in the far future metallurgy should be better, and thus you can cheat structural integrity over the rule of cool. unless it would add more cool.
lone dirty dog wrote:That is a hell of a beast are the ping pongs the sponsons then ? I hope so as I liked the idea the tracks look good so far as well.
exactly... the "pingpongballs" aka christmastree balls will support the "guns" later on...

*gasp* never!!!
shrike wrote:Wow, nice!
love the landing pad especially, good attention to detail as always
First thought is those spherical sponsons look fantastic - of course it has to be gatlings
Second thought is Storag's right, it's not as big as I'd thought
If the thickness of the actual pad is an issue you could try some nice support struts instead of thickening the actual pad - plenty of nice Viktoriana detailing can be done there

i followed a differnt route today... totally fruitless...this sounds like a good idea... i will test that tomorrow!
as for the gatlings... well i worked on some gun design today... dunno if the current angle of the pics reveals as much as i had put ideas into this build...probably better pics will follow soon...
by the way... don´t fret due to the gluebomb pics... all will be detailed and fixed in due time^^
thanks mates... although it is only a three barrel gatling... i always imagine that my gunners are sitting/standing directly inside the sponsons... thus they get this immensly big... a bit like the turrets of the millenium falcon...
shasolenzabi wrote:I keep thinking a vision or scope port either above, to either side of the gun, or maybe in the case of the ball turrets, just under the gun?
cormadepanda wrote:just put a camera above the barrel of the turret?
to both... somehow that idea has yet escaped me... thanks for reminding me... (no really... didn´t think of that yet...)
dsteingass wrote:Don't get Cocky!
LOooks great Vik! I like the triple barrels!
Maybe set the pad on giant springs?
Wrap wire around a plastic rod?[/quote]
hmmm.... now there is a cool thought... how can you come up with something like that and yet have so much thinking room for your own awesome projects???
on a related matter... those springs... the rod would be a bit thicker? don´t you think so? hmmm... if i raise the platform enough...i might be able to squeeze in even a small turret... if i make it right i could even add a connecting hatch on top of the landing platform too...after all the fellas need to get inside the tank from above...
Meade wrote:more awesome! I was wondering, if you want to put a window on the sponsons, maybe something like this?
the middle one, cut so it's just coming off the sphere, would make a window shape...
cool idea... i think i at least own one of these... thanks for the happy times diving into my bitzbox now^^ this could take a while^^
You could use plastic strips and build up the " ping pong " to look like the vision port in the Star wars pic, then have the weapon layout on the out side.
as much as this is as cool as it can get...i would probaly kill the sponsons then as i tried that look with my long forgotten walker... and never got the symetry right...
cormadepanda wrote:use really thin plasticard to make extra plates on the sponsons and rivet them.
hmmm... i think this might be too late atm... should have done earlier... and double post over two hours apart? cool^^

yup... it is a bit of my own fear too... i have to see to that when i get there to attach it for real...
dsteingass wrote:Naa you want a scriber, like a dental tool. Those are some beautiful rivets!
scribber... hmmm the main issue is to get the lines as straight as possible... which you almost can´t get right as on a curved surface the blade...any blade tends to "dance"... which makes it in most cases damn-fuggly ugly...
n0t_u wrote:Could use a blade carefully to get the panel look if you wanted to.

later on i will show you some pics... i´ve found some goblin shields that have a nice riveted backside... i think if painted right they could look like portholes...
also... here are some pics to a certain idea i had when i fell into my bitzbox...
the round shapes you see here are in fact goblin shields... their backside is riveted... the front is wooden looking... or the other way ´round...
well i have around eight of these so i could add two to each sponson bubble... what do you think? would that be a good way to do a viewpoint for the gunners inside?
here is only one "viewpoint" shown to each sponson...
and while i was diving for treasures in my bitzbox(es) my son oskar loves to do likewise his dad... he gets the tweezers and delicatly selects here and there bitz to his ideas to play a bit with... well originally he wanted to make lil soldiers with the bitz... but as we where working mostly with my technical bitz atm... he went and built this:
cool eh? and mind you... no pushing or anything... every lil piece was selected and placed just once... i think that guy is a winner modeler in the future... what a steady hand this son of mine has^^ (not like his father... i tell you this!!!)
