hmm this is interesting, at first I thought you color corrected the picture to make it look green... now I see that the paint just worked well... very interesting viktor von domm.. very interesting in deed
Bright is good! I love the glowing effect - this is turning into areally awesome project.
It kind or reminds me of a futuristic training room - kind of like a holodeck type setup where they project images onto the fighting robots for different opponents. Probably just in my head because it looks similar to the training room in old n64 game I used to play as a kid
Can't wait to see your progress on the combatants!
Wow! I know you said "Green" in the Titleblock, but I wasn't ready for that. Looks great!
Viktor von Domm wrote:
the plan is to add a thin line of yellow to white inside the creases/gaps between the square tiles... to have a nice energetic feel about the surfaces...
I think that will add a lot to the overall effect, though I would stick with the green and not stray to the yellow
well...i added watered down scorpion green to the gaps... this is what it turned into... dunno if you can see the difference to the earlier pics... again only flash pics or daylght lamp pics... no real daylight... so i have to postpone better pics until tomorrow...
question: do you think it would be a wise decision to change the basic color of the frame structure of the arena? not the tiles and the glowy stuff... but more the frames of the wall section and the other stuff like the upper section... and if so... what color would work with this greeness?
Viktor von Domm wrote:well...i added watered down scorpion green to the gaps... this is what it turned into... dunno if you can see the difference to the earlier pics...
Don't know if we can see the difference? Of course we can! It looks great! My only suggestion would be to add one (possibly two) more shades to the transitions between your base tile color and the initial glow color. It's a bit abrupt currently.
Viktor von Domm wrote:question: do you think it would be a wise decision to change the basic color of the frame structure of the arena? not the tiles and the glowy stuff... but more the frames of the wall section and the other stuff like the upper section... and if so... what color would work with this greeness?
I was going to say something like, "It would have to be a pretty neutral color, otherwise it would look pretty comicbook-y" but that seems to be kind of what you're going for As boring as it is, I would suggest a medium-dark grey. I think that would mesh well with the green.
That whole thing is going wommm... wommm... WOMMMM in throbbing green-ness. I frickin love it mate!
Automatically Appended Next Post: The only thing I can add is maybe shade the very centre if each tile slightly darker, like a drop of badab black that you then allow to naturally spread out. It'll give the illusion of the light glow not quite reaching the centre of the tile, with some individual variation.
aha...interesting suggestion...i will test this... as it is not atm to be seen but i painted the columns in the green basecoat... so these get done soon too... would be the ideal place for testing that out graven i think...
and... what do you say for this grey try out? should it stay or should it go? and if the latter... replaced by what? green again or some other color?
I worry that the grey looks too stark. If the beams are black then it would be disorientating to the eye and therefore a more effective danger room (does that make sense?)
Automatically Appended Next Post: And by black I mean glow green, btw, if you follow my drift.
i see your point garven... hmmm... so rather then black beams for the walls and then i add glow to them ... as much as is viable then... ok...understood... and then also green highlights... that be right then?...
at skalk... as the project as usual developed itself BY itself so to say... i wondered the necron monolith idea by myself too... what a draw back that i have no ´crons at all to people the arena with... that would be a nice thing...
, it looks like the entire board is pulsating w/ wytchfire and nuclear runoff
that was indeed the idea! so thanks for assuring!
Really looking forward to seeing how this comes out.
Can it be? vik has formed a lump of the purest green?
I think grey/white, red or black are all good choices for the support beams, depending on the look you're after. As graven pointed out black would make the danger room more disorientating for the combatants, better if the main use is a training environment. If it's a spectator arena then the room limits may be more obvious so as not to confuse the wathcers. In which case plain grey/white would work, with some overspill from the green glowing tiles obviously. Or maybe the supports could be glowing red/orange in contrast to the tiles.
I'd also suggest the balconies are a dark or neutral colour so as to further enhance the darkness/glowiness of the arena itself.
All good though matey, looking cool and waiting expectantly for whatever comes next....
GREEN!!!!!!!!!!! Indeed. Im really digging that terrain. I like the glow effect, but maybe you should add 1 more layer of darker green to the afterglow?
Figured it was high time I returned the favour and commented on your blog Vik, your 'green room' is looking really great, not that I'm biased towards green ( ) but I agree with graven, black supports with green glow would look very impressive.
yeah, thems the ones lols. They are really nice... I was tempted with them for my NeoBrits, but I just don't have reason for those shields in my IG list.
well i will consider a buy soon^^
this will be then my first stuff of them^^
well... onto more darker things... namely black... yes... i went for black after the recent discussion for the beams... here are the pics... the look of the black is a bit glossy... the paint is just that way... needs to be fixed later on...
(note these have all been done with flash... so all are a bit brighter than in RL...)
(note these are done without flash... a bit darker than in RL but the colors are still more true to the real thing that way...)
Viktor von Domm wrote: i will add a green glow to the black...any idea as to how to achive that? on flat surfaces this was a whole lot easier...
Not so hard, I think. If the light is coming from the cracks, then it will produce half circles of light on the walls centered on the cracks. Do a similar blend as your tiles
This is a valid Necron chamber! Can be a part of SH table on a Necron ship or something. I like it.
BUT! You should try and make a true glowing version some day with some green LEDs hidden in the walls and semi-transparent plastic for panels. Or a green plastic with any LEDs... That'll be mindblowing!
well now that i am reaching the highway of the big fourty... i feel old already
we had some cake (not_u... sadly without that nice rivet icing you found, but i will remember this for a future use! be sure of that!!!) in fact an applepie with cream ... yummy^^
my kids made me some salt dough sculptures... and felix even spelled his and his brothers name in the dough...
for all of you who are not in the known with salty dough... it is very cheap and long lasting... in essence it reacts like self made air dry clay so to say... has a nice grainy texture due to the ingredients... which are : iirc... 5 parts flour to two parts salt and add a bit oil and water to the mix till you have a nice dough that can take a punch... presto clay^^ and it can be sculpted for terrain too
and storag... i actually thought very hard about adding actual lights to that dio... i just couldn´t think of a cheap and secure way how to... cheap being the major aspect here... but no doubt that would have been awesome... and in some time i will do so for another project i am sure
well... you aint seen nothing yet... as there will be some nice stuff still i have to do with that dio... you´ll love it to pieces is all i have to say atm
Nice scenic bases vik! And 40? That's only 10 years younger than my dad At least I know it's ok to call you papa vik... Kinda and to reveal my secret I knew it was his birthday because he said the bases competition was on his birthday ... And facebook reminded me
well... i have my kids... no way they let me get too old... i need to be up and about^^
Automatically Appended Next Post: well mates... daylight pics of the columns, the arena as is with second coat of glowy effect...and the bases on the board... kinda like a camoeffect
thanks mates...now i need to figure out some design to do the upper section... black wont be the last repartee for sure here... but what to do i am at my wits end atm...
i am open to suggestions...
i think a more darker theme would be nice... the fighters in a boxing championship wouldn´t like to see the audience in mid fight too so they have a darker background... but how to achieve that?
Good job on bases mate, they look very fitting. But I don't like the pillars. The look like stacks of flat plates on sides while they should look like a monolith imo. Maybe you can make them as boxes so the sides were flat?
actually the roughness should help carry the force feel of the pillars... but i am rather unsatisfied with them too... guess i have to redo them then monoliths that is actually the right image!!! thanks mate!
Always welcome pal! I see them as greenish energon cubes from old transformers g1 series. You know, like when they came out from Soundwave's chest . force field yes, but strait edges. The painting style should be enough to make the field statics.
Do not worry for the work done! It's the process that gives most of the joy not the result! Nothing wasted!
As for the upper section... What you like it to be& Is it a fragment of a visitor lodge? Simple or VIP? Or a place for judges?
Some ideas that might help:
- A big score board on the wall
- If it's a regular balcony for crowd some anti-vandal themed details might fit. Like force field barriers between rows. You can make them from pieces of green plastic bottle or a X-box DVD pack (nice greenish plastic) You can ask for false-boxes at any game store, they should have plenty.
- If it's a VIP lodge then there should be some luxury elements: tables, chairs etc.
- A judge or a commentator might vivid up the place. It could be anything and anywhere: From a hovering dics or a small balcony near the score board to a place on the end of a flexible arm attached somewhere. A flexible USB flash light might be a good material, they are cheap and useless
BTW are the wall panels removable somehow? I just got the idea: You can place sheets of can tin behind them and then glue a small magnet to the base of the pillars so you can place them not only on the flor but on walls as well. Walls have the same pattern after all and supposedly the same mechanics. That would be a great LOS breaker in game terms. Any chance?

you are right... also i offered the sandwich columns already to my son... he wants to play/meddle with them... he is a bit like his father... always collecting junk^^

already done^^ i got a small giveaway tv set that is able to show you klickable photos... you know those cheap toys you scroll through...mostly done as cams and stuff? will show you later on...

actually i have different colored clear CD cases already i could use... what a very cool idea!!! i love that!!! consider yourself bearhugged!!!

would have loved to do this but in the concept phase i couldn´t come up with this idea... so i kind of ruined that posibility as it would need major rebuilding then...

It could be anything and anywhere: From a hovering dics or a small balcony near the score board to a place on the end of a flexible arm attached somewhere. A flexible USB flash light might be a good material, they are cheap and useless i´ve thought about something like that... hmmm... i need to see if i have suitable junk and bitz around... for this setup it needend to be a human judge...?

awesome idea... really... and i could kick myself in the rear for not thinking about that... also... i see no way around that now... the panels are glued to the foamwalls with pva... would ruin everything now... but with magnets... that would have been grande... to say the least...
Now I'm going to kick myself for not thinking about all that before =( But I was going through some trainings at work and that stuff kinda pushes everything else from your head =(
The judge can be whatever you like =) I can picture something like the robotic eye at Hutt's palace from Return of the Jedi if you don't want the human one.
Love the pit. Are you making more of those stacks? I think it will be a great diorama. Did you use glow in the dark for the green? That would be a great pic.
Vik, wow man, the pit looks amazing! :-) seriously cool and the pillars rising from the floor is a stroke of genius that you pulled off superbly! I love it! such a great idea that all came together just so well with the painting and colours you chose makes for one hell of an awesome diorama!
the stacks you see will be redone completly... hopefully i get around this tomorrow...
and...glow in the dark color...now there is a thought... why didn´t i have thought of that...??? i have glow in the dark window colors... iirc green and a yellow one... if i add these on the existing paint (which is just diluted scorpion green by the way... rather simple if i say so myself...) then this would make a nice effect when doing dark pics... thanks mars!
today i´ve worked on storags suggestion of making a refferee or judge like device... it will be hovering on an energy beam... totaly scatchbuilt and i even made a new base fo this too... primed the upper part today too... so i hopefully can show you some pics ´morrow...i think this might up the coolness of the dio a level too
hopefully the pics will explain better than my words what this will be then...:
still all highly WIP pics... but the idea is that this "can" is a sort of texter/ device that has the endless message on the (between those two for now brown stripes) green surface... it will get some decals fit to me such an endless text (wrong word probably...help?)
and the whole upper part is also projecting a sort of energy beam back to the ground to keep it aloft...
hopefully i can get this painted acaordingly to the idea...
cheers, vik

I think the idea is great, and the top half with the scrolling text (is that the word you were looking for, Vik?) is well done and very believable.
My only concern is with the energy beam levitation. I think it will be tough to pull off and would be better represented by clear plastic rod (though I understand that clear plastic rod needs to be aquired and wooden dowel from the garage does not )
And Rawson has a point about clear plastic. Maybe you can get some Necron green plastic rods somewhere? Otherwise i'd make the beam detachable so it can replaced later by something more fitting.
ha! see... you just need to be slapped at the neck and no sooner you come up with some really good ideas
at rawson... yes... the worst part is that before priming this rod WAS actually a clear colorless tube from a pen... but i couldn´t get rid of the inkmine inside so i just primed the lot... i know my pain-ting (pun ) is not up to give that energy beam feeling... well really it isn´t! so i think i will use clear green cocktail sticks... i recently got me a package of these... this should do?
at storag...see above i think this will look better... and also it will be in line with that other idea of yours i am still working on... the energy field... gotta work on the green CD case some more and hopefully i can make some convincing projectors too...then i will make two energy fields to seperate the middle part... will probabbly do there a door too.. just under the big vid-screen...
also... thank the lords i glued it with snappable superglue
at graven... yes...something like this!
and not_u... damn... what a cool idea... tho no idea how to work this out...
Don't know if this info will be of use to this project but I've been thinking alot of how to do and paint different holo-pads, energy fields and so on and I came up with an idea to use special stained glass paintings on clear plastic... Have anyone tried something like that before?
at not _u... i first read thicker...lol...but yep, a ticker it is... sort of giving the names of the players that deal a particular nasty blow and so on and for keeping score...
at storag... i dont really understand what you refer to...but i think this needs more info... sounds interesting... oh and i totally bit the bullet and saw off the pen-tube and then replaced it with clear plastic sticks... i will use this material more often for suchlike effects from now on as i totally like that! looks good in my opinion! thanks for that!! (needed the push out of my comfort zone )
THAT aside... i have a real update for ye all! ...
i present the "tickling ticker!"
i used tau and some imperial skulls and barcodes decals (figured they could be a xenos way of writing...which they are of course...
Spoiler:
)
and well i think i like that look... maybe i ad a thin layer of diluted scorpion green later on for a better blend in effect... or would that ruin the decals too much?
also based the robot leader... still needs some lil touchups... mainly on the base, but then he is done...
the hazard stripes together with metal and black i think will define the upper section of the arena... i think this would be a way to keep both sections apart even on a paintscheme level...
Ok. I love it, but I have a niggle - the base. It should be black or faintly glowy, so it can go on any tile on the board and looks like it is part of the board, if you follow me. But it is awesome saucesome regardless.
at shrike... thanks...that is something i haven´t hear a lot yet
and graven... argh....! you are right...and i am talking of the base here (if you think it´s awesome, thats ok with me too ) i think i overdid it with that base a bit... you think i should change it?...argh...anyone got an opinion on that?
A very good execution indeed! You really have a knack for robots mate! But I must agree with the base issue - a more universal one would do better (not that the current is bad in any way ) You could paint it in circles, like the energy is evenly spreading from the point where the beam hits the ground. Makes any sense? This way it'll still be in one colour theme with the arena part but won't look misplaced on other terrain.
And about that idea of mine...
This is what I mean by stained glass as I don't know how such things are called in english
There are special paints sold at any art-shop for those. They are semi-transparent! My thought is that using them on clear plastic might make a good looking holo/energy-field effect. What do you think?
I got what you meant Storag my mum used these craft paints, the only issue with them is they are really quite thick in consistency maybe a bit bulky for this scale.
However the idea is a cool one and with a little experimenting could or at least might work, and you were correct it is stained glass in English
thanks mates... it really helps to up my spirits! much needed... first day at work... after FOUR weeks of illness and holidays... man... the kids at school were all crazy... dunno why... seems to be a tradition
well... graven asked if i should aply a wash... and a slight weathering... on this one i have to disagree... the whole arena is a crisp and clean scene... imagine the green grass of wimbedon or the soccer statium... no chance that before the games start the grass is not super mint...
and storag... i actually have a large amount of these thick craft paints... for energy effects these might really be a cool thing to experiment with... you can easily mix them and get nice swirls that way... the only problem with these i see is the constant happening of bubbles... i can´t say how many pictures of these, here named window colors (as the are used for possibly decorating windows...) i have done already... with young kids you tend to do that... even on tiles in the bathroom we have small pics of this...
so yeah... i think i will do some try outs... could be a cool thing...
as i said above... was totally drained after work so i only watched some telly with my wife...
I saw a conversion where someone casted a stealthsuit in clear resin. He then painted it half way going stealth so there was that cool energy line rippling through the mini. Then the clear parts were buffed clear. It was one of the coolest minis Ive seen in a long time. Too bad I dont have that picture anymore
storag wrote: I might be wrong but my guess is that it's a standard GW flyer base + support pillars and lots of cutting/sanding to make the surface "icy".
i totally see the flying base... you see the lil pip in the middle...looks like a navel to me ... the whole thing done with a flying base...
the hardest part is like sanding a diamond... keeping the sanding to the level where you get the shape you are looking for but keep enough substance to the material...
tricky...
at dave: tho for someone that has the knowing of milling...a doable job maybe?
No, while it would be cool, it's really not practical in game-terms, you can just place a token next to the fig wearing the Stealth Boy, denoting that some special rule is in play, such as -2 to hit or some such
Yeah the stealth suits are amazing for conversions - but not into other tau suff They need to be turned into grot-koptas, mega-armoured grotz and the like
well... what´s a real cool treat when you come home froma days worth of work and you already treated yourself to a nice suply drop of new paints?...
i tell you...unexpected treasures!!! that´s the ticket...
our local selfmade god of coolscratchbuilding and currently diorama workings... klaus, not santa... well he sent me a huge load of selfmade casted bases for a birthday present! man... i was already about to explain that i again bought some expensive and heavy stuff from ebay when i saw that everything was a present from klaus...talk about self owning... now my wife knows there is something soon in the mail

this makes me again wonder what i have done here to deserve such friends you all know who i am talking about...
many thanks klaus! now you have sent my mind spinning for a proper use of these babies!!! darn
and... well after a recent discussion about the new glazes paints from GW with dave i today went to the shop and got me a small suply drop of paints... three glazes (except the blue one... gonna save that one up for later...) and a dryxbrush metal (gold/brass) one for my steampunky new projects soon... and a paint to get me into the verdigris effect for good!!!
well that´s about all for now...
oh... and fatty... those stealthsuits look sweet to say the least!!!
Well Vik, i need to hang around you for my birthday! hahah. The glazes are always a excellent touch if you want to smooth something or look for a glow, i used all the colors. Makes everything a nice smooth glow. Good luck, i cant wait to see yours in action!
Hehe I'm glad they made it to you.
Have fun thinking about what to do with them - I'm very interested in the result Cheers to you and the missus!

You have been busy mate and looking good although the raised sections need something to make them pop IMHO but what not sure, however I am sure figure placement will achieve this.

The reason humman teeth are so worthless is because 1 their so many humies, 2 they have lots of tiny teeth. True a ork can always grow new teeth, and as such, a ork never remains poor for long. Its like federal funding, it just keeps coming. reason why orks value other teeth is size, space marine teeth are worth a bit because they are hard to get, umies are easy to get, carnifex hard, necron, well.. they just call it metal and use it as a gun sight.
I saw one where a battlewagon was made using a 1/35 scale M-48 treads and lower body with Monolith/boiler engine and platform all Big Shootas and such in the 4 weapon slots and a kannon for the crystal

Long time lurker on this thread, Vik. Just wanted to pop in to say that your work looks fantastic so far. I wish I had the drive to paint more than 2 models before losing interest in a project *looks at half-painted bodies of Daleks, Dystopian Wars cruisers, Death Guard and so on*.
Also, I found this song that you might like, by a 'steampunk band' by the name of Abney park. Don't know if you've heard of them.
Just found them myself and I thought you fellows would like it.
Anyway, best stop rambling at get back to my English Literature course. Toodle-oo, chaps!
at storag... the doors are just a means to get the audience up to the area there ... and for modeling aspects the doors are a mere detail to break up the big space on the wall... i needed to do something... and these make as much sense than other stuff...

hello Lo o T (sorry had that idea for a cool nickname for you just as a saw your name ) welcome to this lil thread... well when i say lil it is a lie so big we all instantly see it many thanks for the high praise... while i occaisionally come to finish the odd project ...against all better knowledge^^ i still have a big shelf of shame with all the big or small unfinished things i started....so don´t feel bad about loosing interest mate... goes with the hobby^^ i am currently finishing this dio here just to allow me after this a new project i long for for quite a long time... i need to get back to all things concerning steam... so finishing this meag project is also for starting something new
and abbney park is really cool.... my favorite of course is :
Steampunk is cool, but the termin is growing soooo broad today.... which is good i think, Personally I grew so attached to the Dishonored version of it that I really consider making something in that style one day. Have you tried it yet Vik?
Heh.. LooT eh? I could get used to that name :p
I might just hang around.
storag wrote: Steampunk is cool, but the termin is growing soooo broad today.... which is good i think, Personally I grew so attached to the Dishonored version of it that I really consider making something in that style one day. Have you tried it yet Vik?
I myself grew up with the steampunk shown by such epic films as 'Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow', 'Treasure Planet' and 'The Iron Giant' (youngun' films I know, but I was a youngun when I watched them ). And obviously, Warhammer had a driving force for me all the way through. I actually think it was this thread that compelled me to buy the 'Steampunk Bible' by Jeff Vandermeer and throw myself into it, pocketwatch and all!
So, Vik and the League, I have you lot to blame for all of this!!
As far as I know there is a general term for all versions of alternative history - chronopunk. Steampunk is just one case involving use of steam as the main energy source. There are also dieselpunk, cyberpunk even pre-historic versions like The Flintstones and much more... Sky Captain is a great movie but there are no "steam" in it =) The only true and strict steampunk media I konw of is the "Steamboy" anime. But that's isn't really important 'cuz people usally refer to visual rather than fictional elements when using this term.
Yeah. Sky Captain's Dieselpunk with a bit of Atomicpunk thrown in, Treasure Planet's... uh... Solarpunk? AetherPunk? Something like that. And Iron Giant's pure Atomicpunk.
I have no idea why people insist that because it's steampunk everything must be steam-powered, it just isn't true. People have this obsession with categorizing and labeling things, and frankly, they are just ignorant about it.
I don't know what that would make Sky Captain, or Treasure Planet (or Atlantis), but Iron Giant was always just a movie set in the 50s to me (not punk-anything).
It's not the Steam Powered-ness that defines Steampunk. It's the time, location, fashion, and general feel of the work that determines which kinda 'Punk' it is.
Cyberpunk, the Grand Daddy of them all, is Dystopian and trans-human. Electronics, prostheses, leather and plastic and dyed hair/eyes/tats/genetics, everyone downtrodden except the really, really rich dudes. Technology is commonplace, yes, but it's treated as unimportant, or as something that's keeping people down. Very Grimdark in a lot of ways.
Steampunk is much brighter, and more likely to be Utopian. The fashions are Victorian, with corsets and wasp-waists, bustles and gloves important for the women, hats and coats and canes for the men (or the 'lower class' look of button shirts and courderoys and slouch hats). The technology is New and Exciting, bringing higher standards of living to everyone. Usually Clockworks and Steamworks, and occasionally it utilizes period "Science" like Luminiferous Aether and the 4 Humours.
Dieselpunk is, essentially, Mad Max. Often Post-Apocalyptic, where 'fashion' is scavenged and dirty, and everything's built from junk, and kept running as long as possible. Gasoline is more valuable than blood, and people fight over dwindling resources. Often the 'goal' is to find an Eden of some sort, where you can live without killing.
Atompunk is usually set between WWII and the end of the Cold War, where the power of SCIENCE! is unlocking the potential of the Atom. Everything gets irradiated, and Man Dabbles in things He was Not Meant to Know. Often crosses with Wierd War II and Nazi Superscience.
Cattlepunk is a sort of Wild West World, where the only law is the Gun, and who's the faster draw.
cattle punk... now there is always something new to learn from you guys when you have one of your dicussions on my thread, mind you... way too scarcely i might add
and while i like the descriptions of storag and anvildude to the themes definitions of various anachronistic versions of ~ punkisms... i like to join dave here:
I have no idea why people insist that because it's steampunk everything must be steam-powered, it just isn't true. People have this obsession with categorizing and labeling things, and frankly, they are just ignorant about it.
which describes my feeling to the matter in perfection...!!!

at storag... nope, haven´t tried out a new game for months now... time and money are going into hobby and family so currently no plans... the thing i like most is sandbox games that give me plenty of room to play within...so basically i am searching for a new fallout and please do a steampunk mini even only once... would love to see your take on that subject! i´ve seen RS Jake succumb to the theme and it was brilliant... so i think yours would be too
today i aplied a mix of metal and black to the audience section... pics tomorrow maybe... for a presentation there needs to be a certain "newness" of the information in the pics... and currently it isn´t ebough for my own taste^^
@ categorizing issue
Like it or not guys but that's just how our brain works. We get to know things by labeling them not any other way around....
@ no-steam issue
Then why was it called steampunk at the first place and not Victorian punk, for instance? I do agree that the term obviously overgrow it's origins but it's fiction and every fiction is a simplified system defined by very few basic concepts like "what if..." and the idea of steam powered tech was crucial imo in deriving that unique visual style we all know now.
PS Vikpunk is what I'll call your creations from now on
LMAO!!! vikpunk.... now i need to copyright that very quick...!!!
i totally love your way to go all logical on me storag!!! brillant but nutty^^
and... you are of course right... we use sterotypes to move along in the thick syrup of life ... without them we would be like kids... really small ones even... so we learn... we stop thinking and use learned reactions from our already- done- shelf... till we see it is not working as planned.... and mind you very few even notice this
Before internal combustion engines were commonplace, the steam engine was commonplace. It's the era of Steam, that's why it is called steampunk (sci-fi without internal combustion). Diesel engines replaced steam on the railroads in the next era, that is why they refer to the next era as Dieselpunk (lack of integrated circuits) which is the only technological difference between warfare today and during WW2.
man its been a while since ive been on dakka, i remember when this thread was only 50 pages long, its been quite a while, even the League when it was just only 5 members is now a large community Goodwork guys, Viktor your threads looking amazing ive only made it the 120 but ill get there !!

at comrade.... i didn´t thought it would be possible to be in a position where a gibbslap wouldn´t do...mate... you are in for a good trashing... we need to pound some sense in you... "WILL YOU INSTANTLY PLEASE WATCH THAT MOVIE???" or else...
Still havent seen that movie. And i will lock myself into a suit of armor and turn into dust to resist the change of you damned bloggers! BURN ME YOU WILL, SMITE ME EVEN! I AM STILL A FREE MAN! heh its not like i been avoiding the movie guys, i just never sat down and watched it.
hmmm.... can´t believe it either... even my wife watched the whole (sometimes unbearable) six movies... and for my kids i chose at an early age to let them see the classics... educational !!!
Have i seen starwars? yes, i have seen all the movies? No. I seen the new first 3 eps. And the one the back three. Never seen admiral tarp either, host, and such. I am horrible. Id like a good press ganging
see here i want to show you what i did the past coupla days... worked on the spectators section... added a video screen... (don´t get too used to the current green look of the actual screen here...thats about to get pimped...) and also added quite a large bit of hazard stripes to the section...yeah i know i probably could have done better with those black stripes... darn...
haha^^ but LDD... yours is looking neater... seriously! if i beat you then it would be due that i have it almost completed... your details look way better´n mine
Viktor von Domm wrote: haha^^ but LDD... yours is looking neater... seriously! if i beat you then it would be due that i have it almost completed... your details look way better´n mine
What the hell are you talking about yours looks the bomb, it never seems to amaze me how you manage to cram so much detail into something so quickly.
Also the ideas that you pull together is astounding, I only have achieved what I have as it was something I wanted to do for ages, even then I have struggled
You on the other hand just go I have an idea and wham it is done, even when you think it is wrong you just tare it apart and come back with something better.
by the way... did i tell you lot that i scored myself an empire steam tank (metal kit) for 15 €´s? no? well i did... and also i recently got hold of the starter kit of flintloque... those alternate napoleonics armies of elves, orks and i then even got me some skaven like blisters too...
pics of these suply drops will happen shortly too...

Never really seen them minis so the pics should be a good insight, as for the steam tank I gather thats the old skool one, if so I have one somewhere
P.S. My new Avatar actually says Dirty Dog on the t-shirt he is wearing

you've got to be ing kidding me?! I'm like 8 and I've seen the originals tons, Han has an always will be my favorite star wars character! YOU MUST WATCH THOSE!!!!
Sorry bout that vik, but I am really loving your arena man!
thanks LooT tomorrow i will be doing some sneaky stuff at work that will bring the arena on the finishing line... it´s long overdue^^ i need to start something fresh and new
and daleks... i toyed with getting me some of these too for a long time... i guess one day i will make me some on my own...shouldn´´t be that hard ?
well i remember the quarrels and tears i had in my eyes for not being allowed to watch the first time star wars when it was aired in the TV back then.... man... it is so easy to hate your mother if she is dead against such stuff... but eventually i got me the cassettes when doing military service in ´95 and as a weekend homecoming ritual i watched the movies over and over again... i really ruined those tapes back then...
flintloque has captured my interest quite early... but only recently i gave in to my longings^^ so hopefully i will be testing it soon... unpacking it i will soon too
and LDD... couldn´t read that small print^^
and you mentioned it some day that you have one too... yeah it is the old one... just the other minute i another kit (metal) being on ebay for 55€´s ! talk about a saving!!! and yep...pics will happen shortly...
thanks RW... and no point in excusing that outburst... it is understandable... and i can only encourage all friends to push comrade!!!
well i have some orcs from the starter package and the oposing elves.... then some more elven command minis and then some rat fighters.... i think this lot will start a collection^^
haven´t yet read anything about the rules... but i gather the orcs are good fighters?
Hey! That looks pretty sweet, Vik! My only question is: "Not" what? I like the hazard stripes, (though I must confess, I didn't have much hope for them when the idea first came up) I think they add a lot to the image. Also the Jumbotron: humans pretty much stay the same thoughout time, they just have better toys Looking forward to see the pimped version. Will it go something like "Yo dawg, we 'new you dig jumbotrons to watch futuristic killin', so we're putting you up on the jumbotron so, while you're getting killed, you can watch yourself gettin' futuristically killed"?

Orcs are always sturdy and stubborn fighters
If they weren't ... we'd expect them to be called "Elves" instead
What about the Orcs from Lord of the Rings? They were pretty cowardly.
LotR... thats another family favourite... my family needs to go outside more
My family movies growing up where star wars, lord of the rings, and Indiana jones
Ah yes, Indiana Jones. A great series of films. I thought they ruined it a bit with 'The Crystal Skull' though. After the Holy Grail, they were really stuck as what to make the plot of the film about. So, they did like every 60's and 70's pulp comic did, and threw in Soviets and aliens Originality right there
I watched that new "TinTin" movie the other day, and the only thing i could think the whole time was how it would have made a better indiana jones than that frakking film lucas put out recently
i have to agree...the fourth indy was a film not meant to be done... first ...ford is way out of his wits in this one... and la beuf was a pain to watch and i have seen many better movies with cate blanchet... why recently so many good actors go the action movie line is a mystery to me... really take a look... jackson, hopkins and so many more... best part will be ben kingsley as the mandarin in the IM3 movie... although... i think he at least fits the bill for looks...
and the alien plot of indy 4 was a total waste of creative energy... really... *shudders*
at rawson... the not... well... why not? no seriously... we have this lamp from ikea quite a lot...
and it comes in a very nice and stury package... one i use at least three for storing my minis in
as for the hazard stripes... well these are my first honest ones i made... they could have been better... truth be told... but... my son today saw them and said...WOW! which i took as a big comliment too so... the target group has kinda approved
at dave... pong...lol... i never thought about such an idea... lol... pretty clever... tho not this time
at LooT... my wife always wants to drag the kids and me to this outside you speak of... the kids want to play lego and playmobil and i want to sit in front of my desk or my PC ... but tough luck we all end up getting our bums frozen by the weather.... so don´t feel bad about watching movies... i think they are highly educational!!!
at airbornginger... hmmm... you think TINTIN is worth watching? when i was a kid i always avoided reading the books... somehow the artistics of these didn´t speak to me...
at adam...
The arena is shaping up nicely. There is some great contrast there.
thanks mate... the contrast was very important to me... the two sections should look almost like two different worlds... the hazard stripes made that for sure i think^^
hopefully i can finish tomorrow the arena for good... it should be possible... but crossing your fingers would be nice too^^
Hmmm, Ben kingsley does a good performance, but the Mandarin was originally a Chinese villain but well, wouldn't wish to upset our trade partners now would we?
I actually really enjoyed the Tintin movie. Once you got past the "its for kids part" it was really fun. The two pirate fight scenes were imaginative and well done.
While we're on about films, I'm planning on seeing the Hobbit at the first screening of it in my town dressed as a dwarf, accompanied by bilbo and a random elf (we couldn't think of any black-haired elves which are in the hobbit)
