I *think* my Storm Raven's finished. At some point, one just has to draw the line. Can't get a decent shot in cockpit :(
Really pleased with the CH kit, added some fw details such as this.
My, how I love edge highlighting...
I also wonder whether to paint the hurricane sponsons white.
I like this, though the close-up makes it very obvious where I cut the flaps down, I think.
Hits_the_spot really does design some beautiful details.
I could add mud and splatter to the underside, but I'm not sure. I don't know that it'll need it once on its preposterous base.
Ala Mud/dirt spatter, I would say that if you did decide to add some, only put it on the access ramp and the landing ... skids? feet? Not sure what they are.
Statue is effing sweet. I will be stealing that painting style (at some point).
Looking at the SR. Have you considered hitting the red with a red wash? The highlights look very orange. In my experience, a simple coat of red wash helps blend the highlight and turns it just enough red to make it look ... not orange. Of course, from two or three feet away it probably makes the model "pop".
@disjointed: yeah I have a tamiya mud stick which is great for that sort of thing. Might do it on the feet.
@briancj: tru dat. Double tru. See, I'm down with the kids me
@albinoork: Glad you like my verdigris Indeed, that's a fair point on the red. I have both baal red and VG red ink, I'll maybe do a couple of test patches. I normally use leviathan purple on my gks but I don't think it'll work here.
Incidentally, swung by hobbycraft and managed to score all their gryphone sepia and ogryn flesh. Should keep my going
The eternal what next. Well, the SR base naturally, but after? Mrs graven's latest challenge was what was I LEAST wanting to paint. Well, upon reflection, everything I need for my gk army for next week: 20 pagk, NDK, 2 jokaero, Banisher, coteaz, chimera and 3 acolytes. Nuts.
Been a hectic couple of days, with mrs graven's birthday leafing much cake, curry and in-laws (who got her an airbrush - again, Hobby collision...)
Still, aside from decapitating some termies (tagk>paladins) I've been working on my retinue for counts-as Coteaz:
Banisher, which is a Wyrd mini with a sob eviscerator:
Love this model. I'm not crazy on Wyrd as a rule, but metropolis got me this as he thought it screamed =][=. Good call.
Jokaero. OooOOOoook.
Actual jokaero. Want to track down a dream blade rainforest shaman for #3
FW retinue. Just utterly beautiful figs. Also I'm scared of converting resin.
I've also caved and ordered a dkok QM for the retinue. Sigh.
Because every =][= needs tp.
Tomato paste tube makes great cloth/paper, it transpires.
And lastly some early WIPs of coteaz:
And his chimera:
C&C&such,
Etc,
Graven

Agree with the Gits! This inquisitor retinue looks great. Lots of character in those minis. Keep up the good work. Excited to see these guys get finished up.

oh hush Thanks guys
Knightley wrote:Damn you! I went and had a look at the DKoK quarter master and his retinue.... I feel another FW purchase coming on...
Damn you for a good find
They are lovely, and came in the post yesterday:
I suspect FW's resin has changed. It feels... slippery somehow, maybe it's just a different release agent but they had almost no flash or imperfections. Not like finecast, but different nonethless. The packaging's changed too, to blister packs. I've made a couple of tiny modifications, the main one not attaching the cherub to the icon and keeping it as a separate acolyte.
Here's a WIP of the Chimera. The tank itself is essentially done, but I need to work on the bloke and his stick.
Here's where the rest of the retinue are:
Very pleased with how she's turned out, even if she is a bit disco. Might even consider looking at Wyrd figs from time to time...
A lovely model, totally breaking the no fig unmodified rule *shrug*
And his little friend:
Yes, I could have gs'd up defense orbs and rings, but it's a great fig. Instead, I've just added a =][= to the book cover and some details about good ol' papa within...
And the man himself:
Feel like I'm finally getting the hang of skin tones!
Having spent all this time on these guys, I have of course now changed my list for Tuesday, swapping out the 4 acolytes (warriors with bolters) for 2 servitors (hb/mm). Ah well.
Found it incredibly hard to get a decent pic of this guy. I'll see if I can't get a better one.
Contender for one of my favourite models of all time. Love him.
Gotta love FW acolytes
And the finished servo-skulls, to finish:
Your continuing support appreciated as ever gang. Incidentally, if you want to support mrs graven (and hence my sanity/available paint time) click the link in the spoiler to vote for one of her amazing cakes)
Thanks mate. Funnily enough mrs g hated the eyes - no accounting for taste eh? Cakes are good, indeed. Hopefully kids will bake tasty miniatures, or something.
Got a bit done today, what with one thing or another.
Added the base reds and whites to the NDK and 2 squads I'll be using Tuesday. They won't be fully painted by any stretch but at least we're not talking shiny metal men o' doom.
And the 2 servitors, which I felt I wanted to get done (phone pics alas)
I don't think I'll get anything done tomorrow, as I'm back to work and will need to pack up for Tuesday. I'll aim to do pics and a batrep, time willing.
After all that - invasion of - aka, opponent cancelled because of the sniffles.
Boo, rubbish etc.
Quite hacked off - not really his fault, but we've been trying (and failing) to have this game since November. If nothing else, it was helping me get stuff painted. Did get an awesomely positive response from my usual crowd, though, all very supportive.
So what's next?
I really want to get the gks done - or at least, the gks in this list. Maybe they don't want to be played till they're painted - I dunno.
After that, gms jobs: bbl's assassin, a weeping angel that's for Knightley and has been driving me absolutely spare, and the =][= for WarOne.
And onwards? I must go back to the corpses of chaos. Feel I really let folk down there. That will require a little bit of modelling to finish the Paladins but, hey, them's the breaks quite good to have that ahead of me too. I am a builder at heart.
And obtain a button from Gits. While supplies last.. not meant to cure or diagnosis or cure any ailment. Limited one to a household. Keep away from real small children, not adult ones!

Quoted for truth. Nothing like a deadline to make sure things get done.
Can you blame him for ducking you? Demons vs. Grey Knights - sounds like your friend is stringing you along
Actually, GKs find daemons a perversely difficult match-up, especially Khorne. Best bet is to warp quake like crazy and hope they scatter themselves to death, then pick them off with Psilencers. But it's nowhere near the walkover it should be - after all, daemons all have eternal warrior, which negates insta-kill with NFws. Yes there's ways round that, but it's still a tough gig.
As for deadlines - well that's it, isn't it? I need to reschedule our game now! I did have an interesting tactical conversation with a couple of the other guys, one of whom was a Tyranid player and explained why he found GKs such a nightmare to take on (TLACs>instakill warriors, Purifiers toast everything else), so that was productive. Hey ho, might get some painting done tonight,
Thanks for your continued support/adepticon-mockery graven

Sounds like the ongoing saga with my best mate over this direction. My 'nids have been trying to chomp on his Guard for about the same length of time but one thing after the other has led to games getting cancelled, re-arranged etc. Gives me a chance to get to painting them, since my painting bug is resurfacing and all after my hiatus.
And when you do go to Adepticon we could probably wrangle a team GB - I'd volunteer once my finances are fixes (so, about ten years time then ). It might even encourage me to get a suitable army done!
@DSS: Woo! Go team gb! Like the Olympics, but I might actually give a toss! Start saving now...
@llamahead: warmachine drudge mind slaves. I've got another made up with plasma cannon, 2 as regular servitors and 5 as arco-flagellants. The backpacks are off Void Junkers. Gorgeous figs, and worth scouring eBay for. They come in a blister or as a set with a Cephalyx, which I'm using as a mystic.

Thanks mate. I've been playing a lot with blue highlights for black. Vallejo Game Color black is naturally very gloss, a really useful paint. Vallejo Model Color black is Matt-satin, which I use accordingly. Both really useful, versatile paints. Cheers mate.
Not much done tonight - #2 throwing a super-wobbly as we speak. Got first green done on Star Scorpion for flying_pooo, which is also to be a test for a revised Mentor Legion scheme (killing 2 stones with one bird):
I've turned the marine helm on the =][= base green too. Not sure whether to make the eldar baubles yellow, as planned or leave them orange, as it feels like a great contrast against the blue carapace (no new pic, didn't see the point)
Hey Ho,
Strongly wishing that child will consider sleep as a life choice,

Rather like that assassin mate. Worked out rather fine and conveniently cheap for a kitbash compared to the metals! Haha!
I also realised our insane Team GB for Adepticon some point in the future will need to get a theme going. Probably about now so our slow and lazy selves can get stuff painted in time !
@dss, glad you like mate. Also, I still question the probability of actually making it to Adepticon next year. Much as I would love to...
@lordrogaldorn: great to have another visitor to my patch! I tend to spend a long time on the modelling side then occasionally attack a paint job. I'm in a jolly painting place just now, doing stuff for others motivates me more somehow.
Speaking of which, work on Star Scorpion progresses:
This is also a test for a grimier version of Mentors. Coming along methinks).
WarOne's =][= is done but I want to take proper shots,
In other news, lots of funky bits have come my way from fellow dakkanauts (the mighty Ouze and SilverMk2), so I might do a spot of building over the next couple. I'm aiming to work on the paintjobs of the 1.5k gk horde in the mean time.

Hence why I said in the future in general. Next year's a definate no-go so at least it gives us crazies a time to plan. I still have to pay up debts. Bleh.
That base though....I like. And bugs are always better with blue.
So glad you approve mister! Pm me your addy and I'll send it on its way. Yeah, a flintlock, why the devil not eh?!

Quite so, on both counts! The base has me doing the happy dance too.
Building a gk Libby, just cos. I'm wondering about loadout - I have the standard termie lib, which does for warding stave really - sword maybe?
Just for a basic loadout? Matches the art too. Or add a halberd, which seems more (a) traditional and (b) useful.
Automatically Appended Next Post: @ llamahead - ah, missed your post! Given your fondness for Rackham, I'm glad you approve
I do like the Necron bit...but it needs a bit more.
I'm liking the progress on that Star Scorpion! You're painting way faster than I am painting my Angel of Absolution...feel free to slow down at any time! The bone armour on the Angel is proving a massive pain in my butt to paint... I'll show you progress shots soon.
Bone is indeed a menace. Vgc khaki is your friend. That and gryphone sepia - my last tub of which my 2 year old decided to pour out today
The Star Scorpion acts as a helpful distraction from block painting!
Some further sanity preservation: a purifier with NDH, and a Libby:
I've got my purifier squad and strike squad for the (delayed) game v daemons done. I'll get pics up tomorrow. In the interim, any advice on how to get more folk commenting on the blog? I'm feeling a bit baffled...
Not completely sold on the necron bit - it needs a bit more shizzazzle* to distinguish it from your average flying saucer parking meter.
I've heard that the vallejo sepia wash is virtually identical - can't say for certain as I didn't try a direct comparison when I still had some gryphonne in a fully liquid state and I'm not sure which pieces I have with only a sepia wash on to compare now. Can't say I've noticed any difference when using it though.
Good start to the libby, that purifier looks downright bad-ass though Nice idea for the 'amma, sorry, hammer.
Not aware of any tricks that will bring comments flooding (except bribes). Hard to tell as I'm still on a dodgy connection here and still catching up on several threads, but the P&M seems a little slow in general at the moment, maybe going through one of it's lull periods?
*Shizzazzle - Technical term relatively equivalent to 'je ne sais quoi' but with additional quantities of an unknown, yet indisputably geekier nature.

I have been busy today, oh my yes. Probably shouldn't have had coffee at this time of night, but lets me get posting done... WIP on the second NDK:
Rather more importantly, I'm pushing towards a tabletop standard army for Tuesday. If I can get the above NDK done, and the turret on my chimmy, I'm there.
Today, I did the top layers (for now) on halberd-wielding Strike & Purifier squads. I feel it is in no way excessive to have cut up an entire box of bloodletters here.
I'm playing against a Khorne daemon army, hence the flood of Psilencers.
Nice simple conversion using the daemon head from the box set.
I like a bit of leg.
I actually wanted the right arm further round, but mid-sweep still works methinks.
Wow. This looks rubbish in this pic Ah well.
Whopping great conversion from loads and loads of spurious parts. Also, I think he's saying something like, "What? We're klling Khorne today? Dang."
And he's saying "Yup. Like this."
Witness my obsession with BADC and DA vet parts coming to light...
An old-school GK with a termie Psilencer. I know, sacrilege, right?
Group shot. Need to adjust depth of field. Or, for that matter, start using one of the 2 lightboxes we now have.
Purifiers: Like I said. Nothing excessive here. Nope. In no way excessive.
Fond of that chaos limb. It crops up all over my stuff. They're breeding, I tells ya.
BT parts creeping in here...
If I stand really still, they won't see me...
What he said!
Look! Over there! Something else to kill!
Really fond of this guy, as he was my first major conversion for this project wayyyyy back last year. I dropped him this morning, and the halberd stayed (a) on the base and (b) vertical. Rest of him fell off mind.
Another heavy conversion using Sternguard bits.
He's not really a purifier. I just ran out of DA vet bodies.
Again. Depth of field...
Oh, and an Interceptor with a Psilencer: CSM legs on this guy - a success I think?
Generally, I see lots wrong with them all. I'm aware that I've rushed them, but on the other hand, I will actually - possibly for the first time in ~25 years - be fielding a fully painted army. So, an acceptable compromise, I hope.
So, that's my lot really for tonight. As I say, aiming for fp on Tuesday, which realistically means busting a gut tomorrow: the NDK needs reds and golds - and, ideally, his base details done, though I can live without having to paint a wrecked Iron Warrior dreadnought - and the chimmy needs its flag bearing commander to have, well, a flag.
Later, and of course your continuing C&C warmly welcomed,
The NDK looks awesome, the fist guards are a great idea, one I hope to replicate if I can find some suitble subsitutes
The first Purifier with the psylincer looks good, I'm not been a fan of the head you've chosen mainly because I hated painting it on one of my models
The second guy, love the demon head on a spike, great conversion!
The third one, looks like he is doing an upward cut judging by the way his head is looking, again nice and dark.
The kneeling guy. Amazing use of SM parts, this one will be stolen and reused for my purifiers, you can bet on that, brilliant!
The rubbish pic guy, I can't see what you are refering to with a rubbish pic, looks good to me.
The whopping great conversion... nice, real nice, any chance of more shots of this guy, so I can see what parts you've used?
The next guy, well unfortunatley im not a fan of the arm sitting idle by his side, you've got some form of movement with the weapon arm, but a static arm on the other side doesn't quite fit in. (no arguments on the painting however)
Your obession with BA/DA parts? I'm happy to see I've managed to get you hooked great model as well, however im surprised you didnt use the BADC hammer with a different head on it?
Old school metal model, I think it fits perfectly, how did you assemble it? did you chop off the end of the old weapon or remove the entire of the old weapon?
The group shot looks very impressive!
I do like the next guy with point with a sense of movement, It looks like hes saying, right move over there and slay everything!
The guy with the chaos tentacle? he looks like one of my guys build wise. So I approve!
BA parts on a GK..... top man, top man!
The next one (halberd across the front with arm out to the side) very commanding pose, almost like he's saluting his next kill.
Mr "What he said!" I feel like this one could have had the entire feel of him changed by pointing the head over his left shoulder, I believe it would offer a sense of wistful thought, odd I know but fitting.
Capt "Look! Over there! Something else to kill!" has a great pose, however the bolter looks pure black with no highlights, is that just a trick of the light or did you put that in to test us? I also like the use of the raven wing part for the Psyhic hood!
You're early conversion looks to have stood the test of time, still looks great now as it did back ages ago. How did you find getting the tabbard to go over the robes?
The sternguard conversion one looks pretty cool, is that a brass etch covering up the lower part of his face?
The helmst on the next psylincer. I LOVE that head, its has to be my favorite head out of all the marine head's I've seen, I regret not being able to make copies of it.
The group shot, what I found was putting them in two ranks and taking a wider shot then trimming the picture down works wonders. you don't tend to end up with depth issues.
Lastly, the chaos legs on the interceptor, I think it fits perfectly, the weapon covers up enough that you don't question its chaos legs, but the back end with the bronze/gold fits great
*please note posted on my phone so spelling mistakes will be plenty*

You should be really proud of its base, I'd say the vast majority of people do not put in that much effort when it comes to basing and you have just proved that that extra effort really pays off! Also, Nice job on those hazard stripes.
@dss: thanks mate. I take your point about the green, I just felt I wanted a change - but it is a little distracting.
@reiko: good to have you back! Look forward to your thoughts.
@pooo: he's from fw general grimaldson. V cheap, and v characterful. A great fig all round. The base - I freely admit I go a bit crazy, I feel that big figs need a base that is suitably epic. This was the first of the true "corpses of chaos" (being tipios) so more to follow with the rest of the paladins.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, I hate my phone...
Yay hazard stripes! Really pleased, and not as bad as I'd feared. Almost makes me want to do csm...
Played with the weathering paints - this is mud, dust, granite over a liberal application of tamiya mud stick:
Overall, I think they're pretty decent. I'd like a bit more pigment variation in them - I think they could've done something interesting with more contrast in single pots - but as a 3some (ahem) they work well together, albeit with the caveat that dust is very, very bright. I can see me using them for more tank weathering and covering spots where the basing material doesn't quite catch. Not sure how they'll do as a Db finish on regular basing, though that will be a forthcoming experiment I suspect.
But wait, I hear you cry - why is this not packed to go to war already?
Well, much to my continuing frustration, my opponent had again been possessed by I know it's not his fault but I'm still totally ticked off.
But no use griping; onwards, etc. Next up remaining Paladins and the corpses of chaos at last, I think,
Congrats on getting the army all painted up they look really nice, the weathering on the tank looks great I really like it.
Shame Nurgle got the better of your opponent again, I think it must be all the impaled blood letters on the bases that's sending bad vibes through the warp.

A-ha! it's alive! necro-tipios lives! Great to hear your back, like a long-lost, slightly rusty boomerang; glad you like my chimmy.
I'll be doing a stock take shortly: a big ol' to do list will be forthcoming.
Scroll was my thought - but it looked gash. Yeah supposed to be a Libby:
I'm pretty happy with him. Might add a brass =][= to his loincloth? Going to have something gribbly crawling from base.
Did my "stock take". Unbuilt I have:
• 5 classic metal gk termies. Planning to do 4 with halberds, 1 with banner, to run as ghost knights.
• 12 pagk. 2 I think I'll do as interceptors, the other as a squad of halberdy purifiers. I was going to have my da vet mods count as purifiers but I'll have them as strikes, I think, in that I'll tend to use them less.
•Chaplain Grimaldus - could work as a =][=? Very techie but would I ever run one with a servo harness?
I could do with building another paladin with banner, but am short the torso parts. Ah well, onwards, and thanks again for the continued C&C!

Glad y'all like the conversions. I'm in a chopping mood.
One of the guys at my local club, who runs the awesome www.leadlegion.com painting service, asked me to work on a build for him of a chaos commissar (we're about to start a planetary empires campaign, hurrah!) I played with it for a bit, and here's a wip:
Clearly very wip. Needed to add height so extending at waist and going add another layer of detailing. Going to play with adding sleeves along the back of the cloak to create a chaos trenchcoat.
Started on Grimaldus-> =][= Grim. Not sure on weapon loadout.
Lovely fig, so not doing much to it, just de-BTing.
And as I mentioned, we're doing planetary empires. So, want other stuff built. Specifically, ghost knights; got some old metal gks. I started by just using some lovely bases from Fenris games:
Then I thought well I'll add some purity seals.
Then I thought, well I've got some extra halberds:
And I could kitbash a stormbolter arm too (short a pad though)
In fact, why don't I just make a unique banner while I'm at it?
So that was my night. Quick! Bed! Before it becomes tomorrow!

Here lies Inquisitor Humperdink Grimm, killed in action assaulting the arch-heretic Frinzibar's headquarters when a serving boy pulled the Holy Sword of Bob from the end of his hardback hammer and stabbed him with it.
Looking great already Graven. Can't wait to see the finished version. Thanks for the DakkaDakka invite by the way (and the lovely little plug for my services). Cheers.

Grand, glad you approve. Now go post in the Introductions forum before you get MOD-raged!
Well, I suppose a nice eagle on the top rather than the skull would help... Romanesque don't 'cha know.
I'd assumed you'd left that section black so you could free-hand something in... but in that wasn't the plan, then yes... a GK insignia would go well there.
its taken me a little longer than i first thought to catch up there was so many goodies to look at!!
i started making a list of eveything i wanted to say and my boss asked me what i was doing....so after a quick cover story i lost the list and cant remember most of what i wanted to say apart from just being plain flabbergasted
Really great to see everything going (mostly) to plan, and seeing you get some painting in
i just have one thing to say that may annoy you....*cough combibolterontheSRbase cough*....but other than that, i LOVE the expanding foam/khorne invasion idea (i have an idea of the SR lining up for a bombing run, only for the loud hailer on the Rhino to say 'SURPRISE' as it flies over and the Rhino explodes into angry smoke... )
@gits: I had planned vaguely on Knightley-esque squiggles, as I cannot freehand for toffee. Or taffy. Or tofu.
So:
@ Reiko: good to hear from you amigo! Clearly, dakka needs a Boss key. Stormbolter on sr base - what, on rhino? Needing painted? Curses, so it is! Dang.
On the bits scrounge again, I'll be posting this in the right place but if anyone can spare gk termie torso bits, pads, psycannons (or pagk psycannon) or khorne zerker bunny heads with the T-shaped eye slot you'll make me a happy monkey. No poo throwing or anything...
Great use of the old metal GK Termies, they'll fit in just right with the new ones! Oh, and nice banner. I'll be interested to see how that Chaos Commissar turns out, a trench coat will look great on him.
Grimaldus is looking great too, I love it how he can beat people up with a book. READ THIS HERETIC!
Very nice, Graven. I love the book and dagger on the Chaplain! And the banner is very cool, too. Are those bits that you've applied etched brass from Forge World?
Thank you my friend, good to be back. Haha, definitely, either that or somewhere i can make notes about glorious models without 'the Boss' seeing...(should have just used MS Word shouldnt i... )
yes, the storm bolter on the Rhino (thought they were combi's...? meh) and the barrels are also begging to be drilled...sorry

Yeah, I'm glad folk are into the book love. I've gs sculpted a book on the reverse, but it needs work before I'm happy to share and/or swipe with knowledge.

Ta. It is indeed - although you'd think they'd give you more than 2 gk icons... Incidentally, love your avatar. My patents used to live in Rye, where much of it was filmed. That and it's pythonic.

Ah, no mate, but many thanks, I have 3 spare in fact! I just fancied a change.
More work on leadlegion's commissar:
Yes rubbishy phone pics, wife hogging camera for cakes.
And this fella came in the post today:
Ook! Now with =][= bathrobe!
I think that the Chaos Commissar it a bit out of proportion. His torso is too bulky for his legs. He's looking good, don't get me wrong. If your still going to sculpt the trench coat it'll be fine, but now he just looks a little strange.
And what is that a counts as Jokaero Space Monkey?
You're not wrong about proportions. I'd tried him with a range of legs - ork, chaos warrior, scout, yaddayaddayadda - and have come full circle. I think once I gs the base of the trenchcoat it'll balance better. We shall see.
And, yes, jokaero librarian
Anyway, an idle evening of kitbashing. Decided to see if I couldn't approximate a psycannon from a left-over incinerator:
C&C? If you figure out how I did it, you'll get a fist bump. Now there's an offer.
Another amalgam:
Sanguinary Guard bits to the fore. I think the occasional SG bolter's a nice variation actually, and not out of keeping with general aesthetic.
Crazed parts fusion:
Just to flesh out my interceptors. Also a test to see if I could nearly sculpt off the second hand and resculpt back of pommel (answer is yes).
Some brass etch required here!
And...
Creative use of khorne zerker heads. Gotta get me some more o dem.
I'm debating picking up another pagk set largely to pillage; I'm tempted to build some falchion interceptors or a second squad of falchion purifiers. Thoughts on a postcard, if the Internet hasn't rendered such primitive means of communication irrelevant,
Graven
As much as I want that fist bump but do not know GK bits well enough to figure it out. However I do think I see a non GW bit, looks kind of like a lid/top or something? I really have no Idea...
nice Kit bashing by the way. I love all them GKs.
CSM legs good too the mystery bit is the front axle join off a CSM bike, the barrel a cut-down incinerator cannister. Those zerker heads are a joy. Need moar! I'm going to try making a gk termie torso back from a regular termie one next. Eep. Can only experiment eh?!
So my kids decided that all my plans this evening were dust. I had many, notably the gs framework for the trenchcoat, but instead just made a little headway on the termie conversion:
Chopped the back torso above the vents, and the front at the cowl line. Thinking of sticking a classic metal incinerator on (irony - have cut off the aobr arm posts ) along with the brotherhood banner. Trick the eye into not noticing the chop job straight away, I hope.
Left? Fair point. Actually, I think that's a funny angle of photo thing; the metal and the plastic are flush (bit of gs in edge). I see how it does look that way, doesn't in rl, hopefully accessorising/better pix will fix.
In general terms... all marine arms... especially terminators... need to be closer to the body... the GW figure dynamics / body mechanics for marines are ridiculous.
Anyway, some odds and ends - it's #2's 2nd birthday Tuesday, and there's a lot going on with the wife's cakes (www.facebook.com/aweecake) so it is basically a madhouse here.
I have this box of stuff to base:
That's interceptors and 2 halberdy purifiers. I have enough bits to build another 10 man unit; should I do a second purifier/falchion squad (which would be my 5th purifier squad) or a second interceptor squad, possibly with something other than swords? Opinions please! I'd be especially interested in the view from those of you who play more competitively.
Leadlegion's chaos commissar has now a trenchcoat and - just cos - a noose:
Generally chuffed - C&C? - the noose was a whole Judas thing (been reading way too much Jim Butcher, actually).
More on =][= Grimdarkius:
Much happier, although still no clue at all what weapon to put in his left hand (or just leave the plas). Also, I really love chaos pack on him. What, he's pure?! Shut it, or He'll smite you with his mighty book-fu!
I meant to post this up the other day, the reverse of the ghost knight banner:
And here's the other paladin standard bearer:
So, might be a bit of a lull over the next wee while, at least on terms of building, but you keep posting, I'll keep replying!
I really love it when people put stuff on the BACK of their banners. Because that's what you're going to see on the table!
Great work as always, Graven. I say leave the plasma pistol. Also, the book should have foul symbols. But he's pure. No, really. Pure as the driven snow*.
The chaos commissar is still looking a tad out of proportion but otherwise he's a really nice mini. He Incorperates a truck load of bits, but where did you get all of them? You must have a never ending bits box.
Grimaldus looks a tad Chaosy to me now.... NOoo don't smite me with your mighty book-fu Grimaldus!
I just don't like the chaos backpacks (personal taste). Otherwise he's looking really good.
Those banner bearers are looking great too. The one with regular terminator armour looks like he'll fit in fine.
@Briancj thanks for that! It also helps cover dodgy metal-plastic joins!
@flying_pooo: I figure =][= grim for Ordo Hetericus! As for Captain Chaos, I might add toe-caps with gs to add more eye-balance then. I do have a ridiculously random bitsbox, he is made from:
Mantic Zombie head
CSM torso
IG legs
Ig power sword
(from leadlegion)
Chaos warrior cloak
Csm bolt pistol arm
Chaos vehicle star
Ig accesories
(im)purity seal
Ig vehicle aquilla
Empire flagellant noose.
Oh and the base is by Uncle Truth, another of our cadre.
Very pleased with how the termie>gk chop job has turned out; I think the key was detailing, like the brass =][= logo on the shield.
Also, I have green (like, Hulk green) snot today. Wife's learning to use airbrush for cakes. Still, better than sparkly snot from doing gks - looked like I'd been grinding up fairies into powder and snorting them.
I've quite inadvertently acquired the recent horde of pagk above - metals from trades and then (bizarrely) plastics for some yugioh promo cards I got from our school librarian; to quote flgs, "Well you used to get £60 for them, but I can give you £20 still in trade?" gee, what a shame. Free toys. I needed more fiddly bits to accessorise.
Currently, for the remaining 10 man, I'm going to make 2 psycannons and try to forget until the Planetary Empires campaign kicks off at our club. I'll write a list and inevitably realise that I need to build something!
Loving the noose! Wonderful touch. And very impressive standard bearers as always. I know you've already painted up 1500pts. How many more are you going for?
I actually quite like how the Chaos Commissar looks slightly...podgy. Im imagining his armour fusing to his flesh and swelling with whatever grotesque-ness is happening inside him....Nurgle or Tzeentch...fits either way i feel. Of course, feel free to tell me im being silly
Otherwise, great work as ever graven! i too would like to see just how deep your bits box goes... impressive builds my friend
I can think of soooo many filthy comments that involve rummaging and bits boxes. But still, I am hopelessly knackered having just spent 2 hrs building a 6' trampoline with instructions that make GW look like master draftsmen. I do feel rather manly, however. Grr, and so forth. So no other geekery from me till Thursday, mes amis, alas. After that, I hope, some paint. Got that gms star scorpion to do and ooh, stuff.

That model is just really pleasing to look at! I love the tones on him and the sword is such a nice contrast with that paint style, I also have to give him more points because he has a bare head :-) and I do love a good bare head! especially a beardy one!

Not sure when next proper update will be - jubilee weekend I imagine!
Great work, Graven! I love the beard and the character it gives the model. The sword is great, but I really love the shield and its position. I think it speaks volumes about this marine's rxperience and maybe a little abput his fatigue. The model really telks a story.
Been a while since I dropped in and what a treat! That marine is really cool, I love the greens and white. As some Yellowbeard said it really tells a story, lots of feeling and character!
@tipios: Oh shush. This is all an elaborate ruse to get me to do my bare-headed paladins, isn't it?! This guy's hair/beard is a test for Mordrak, as it happens. Love them Hairy Heads!
@Yellowbeard: it really pleases me that you get a sense of the narrative I was aiming for with this guy. Also, thanks for swinging by!
@RM2020: hey bud, great to have you by once more! Getting the green and white balance right is really important to me as it's the only way I'll move forward on my Mentors, though they are so very much on the back burner just now (and indeed till 6th). Still, Stormtalon with big feathers attached...
I think one thing that's helped tbh is using the giant light tent I bought the wife for taking wedding cake pics! When she saw me using it her comment was, "Seriously? For that little thing?" Thanks love, can always count on your support

Well they all got primed last night after kids crashed out. I also want to get them done as they're the Corpses of Chaos chappies. I also want to be able to justice to the converted sword brethren/interceptors. Would it be excessive to do all GKs hairies as various greys?
Thanks mate. I think that this gritty look is the way I want to take the Mentors - "real" weathering etc - and the power weapon test has really come off I feel. Even the eyes aren't completely awful. Now the paladin's heads are primed I can start on them, tomorrow hopefully. The Horned Locust is a priority!
In other news, meeting ArbitorIan tonight, he's playing his Arbites (counts-as SoB) against leadlegion's traitor guard (that I did the commissar for) - I'll try to get some snaps, as should be one good-lookin' game!
Thanks leadlegion. Bummer that your game with ArbitorIan got canned :(
Am in crazy marking hell so to preserve my sanity somewhat I've started basing my remaining gks:
Yup, mostly a slaanesh theme this time!
Also wanted to pick your various brains on a matter: I have had 2 offers in the space of a week for most of my guard , one for infantry, one for tanks. I'm reasonably tempted as I never give them any attention these data and space is tight. However, guard is obviously one of the hardest armies to get back into if I ever decide to return to (pesky hordes). But am I just keeping them for no reason? Your views are sought...
As someone who is now onto his THIRD guard Army in 20 years (having sold his previous ones, regretted it, and then started collecting them again) I would say it's probably not a good idea. Unless you're really, really sure you'll never play them again.
You have two little one's who in the coming years may want to start playing soldiers with dad, and having that army as well as your mentor's/GK's could prove invaluable when teaching them about the game/painting.
LeadLegion wrote:As someone who is now onto his THIRD guard Army in 20 years (having sold his previous ones, regretted it, and then started collecting them again) I would say it's probably not a good idea. Unless you're really, really sure you'll never play them again.
^see, I understand that logic - I suspect of I ever did do ig again, I'd want to go for much more customisation.
Anyways I remain undecided. I'm playing against leadlegion's horde in a couple of weeks - yay! Painting focus for graven! Thinking a version of razorpurespam with a bit of antitank (see I know leadlegion reads my blog and I know he won't meta) so a generic gk v various ig possibilities makes sense. I'll get a list up soon as brain works. If I finish my marking Monday I've got Tuesday to paint.
My Army list only has two squads of Melta Vets in Chimera's Graven, just a happy hint to help you with force selection. Those aren't all the Vets in Chimera's I have in my list, but they're the only units with melta.
Well I did reasonably assume you were running mech vet; I still plan on building quite a general anti-horde list. Unfortunately, it requires me to build, and therefore paint, a squad of pagk with falchions
For the chopping! Halberds are pointless v ig, and I hate basic swords except on interceptors. If it's true platoon ig, purifiers with falchions provide massive anti-horde cc.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh - and it's an extra attack at 20% of another (basic) unit member.
Missed the "vs IG" part (you all know I only look at pics 95% of the time). Outside of some mass Russ spam, I'd rock a LRC with MM. Move 6" and fire all the things (if you do NOT take PBA), seems good. MM can pot shot at tanks while everything else obliterates some guys in the open.
Yeah, that was my thought, and what I've historically run. Bizarre downside is it's already painted! Yeah, twisted martyrdom. I'm slightly concerned that my only dedicated antitank is a razor (and ndhs, obviously), although the Psyfleman can pop AV 13. Otherwise, sound?
I'd maybe go with another Lasback. In assault a bunch of S5 hits on rear armor is going to knock down about everything, or any units in the open. Use the spare points for some dozers, maybe a 6th man in a razorback, or a jakaro maybe?
What, up the hb to las? Yeah, maybe. Would mean buying, or kitbashing in a hurry. I'd also considered taking the 5 men >6, each with another NDH (just by virtue of available models). A single Jokaero's not great, imo, better to double up. Hmm. Appreciate the idea bouncing!
Actually, I totally forgot, I have a las/plas built! Not painted.
Or with any iconography.
Or rivets, actually (yes, I de-rivetted it in a moment of madness).
Was for my mentors, but still.

It's a terrain-y piece, the sliding top hatch from (I think) the Bastion. It was in my bits box, and fits neatly on to a rhino top hatch. Gonna try to get some paint on this bad boy, lay down the primary metals on it and the unit(s).
Nah, dartboard marking. Sure the occasional kid gets 60/20, but who cares?
Got the whites blocked in on the razorbacks (even the one I'm not using) and the 2 purifier squads:
Armoured hb variant on r, could do with a name plate though. I think all my razorbacks will be rare pig breeds. Twin-las turret modular also to be a rhino or (once built) twin flamer.
And, just for a variety. Some work on kitbash Crowe:
@ leadlegion: Ta. Not a clue what it's from though.
@SL: Kitbash a-go-go, amigo. Lascannon barrel, two plasma pistols, predator a/c turret front, back of something tau-ish, some wire, all mounted on HK pintle on top hatch plate from (iirc) bastion.
Not making much headway; kids are not settling well at night and am generally exhausted from new timetable. I have, however laid down first layer on some more corpses. See, guilt is motivational!
Honestly, gone for like 8 hrs and look at the stuff I miss! @Vitruvian - great vid, I have that stored in my YouTube favourites just to check from time to time.
@Yellowbeard - really want that as my ringtone... New shades and washes seem ok, not tried the new mud yet although doesn't smell as foul as Devlan. The glaze is amazing but needs a very even base of primer. The colour depth on them is not as full on as, say, VJ inks but the consistency is better.
@ gitsplitta - if I'm completely honest, I'm not sure either. My plan on reflection is thin layer of Vj terracotta over the main areas and thin layer of new gw yellow on pads/eagle. I *might* try some freehand but I'm pretty wary. I was thinking of doing outlined with a coloured micron pen and then filling in/over - you have any experience of that?
If I get time, I'll show y'all my first experiment with crackle glaze later, too. Ooh, teaser...
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, first non prime paint layer: thin mechrite red, sunset on yellows, and blood letter on cape.
Very pleased. It actually looks even richer and more vibrant in the reality (aka non iPhone pix). The weety method really has its advantages. Metals next, and maybe some freehand.
That's looking nice, Graven. The latest layers added a lot of color, but I can still see the shading from the layers of shades and glazes. It's like you pre-shaded the model. Is that what you were going for?
Have you had a chance to try the new Army Painter Warpaint Inks? I understand that the Dark Tone is a good match to Badab Black and that the Stong Tone is a good match for Devlan Mud (as per From the Warp), while the Soft Tone is a good match for Gryphonne Sepia (as per Stahly's Tale of Painters).
@tipios: I'm really interested what you come up with in terms of flames. Any tips you have would be great. Solar_lion suggested you should try to make hokked "V"s. So the top of each arm of the letter hooks like a flame, but they are joined together at the bottom like a V.
The preshading was the plan. Not tried the army painter tones yet - a question of $€¥£s. I used that little symbol tut, most useful!
I still hate freehand. Outlines done with a brown Sakura pigma micron (.05) to help me, filled with gw orange:
Edge on left and Base of tail need tidied, but reasonable in principle.
Shading in particular needed. Going to add some purple/blue tones to base of flames also.

Your thoughts and views as sought as ever! I myself need to see him in daylight, and take a wee break from him (need to give the gks some lovin')
I love all the little weathering details and the nifty shading.
Just one thing. The green looks a tiny bit out of place, being just on one side and all.
My eyes are just drawn to the triangle green and being off centre it just looks not right.
Thanks man, I'm thrilled you like him so much! I see what you mean about bianco g the green from the laurel/grenades in the other side of the figure. Hmm. Belt accesory on t'other side, or green power cell on the melta?
Also, I see I forgot to paint part of his nose
Nice work, Graven! The flames on the base and the brass aquila on his shins turned out nice, I think. I also really like the blue purity seal. I never think to do them in a different color, but I think, especially with red armor, the blue works well. Bice work on the chapter symbol, too! I'm not sure the green bothers me too much, but I think Flying Poo is right; it does stand out a bit and draw the eye. You might do the grenade in a more neutral color (to match the combi-weapon?)... not sure about the shoulder pad.
Your (and weety's) technique is very interesting. It gives the figure an almost antique look. Is the same technique you used on Mentor?
I thought about dulling down the grenades with sepia washes but I quite like the touch of green there. Never tried a blurity seal before but really pleased with it. It is indeed the method I've used for the Star Scorpion, as a test for the Mentor Legion; the flames on the base are similar to the Star Scorpion's power sword. Oh, and glad you like the aquillae - no metals were used in the painting of this figure
I remember Ice doing the odd off color purity seals on some of his Ice Angels. Not very common, but your right it does depend on the color of the armor and the seal .
Now he looks 'right'. The green accessory belt thingy has balanced it out.
With the better pics I can see the cloak properly, I like it.
The only thing I would do from here is paint the vents on top of the Jump pack and the rivet bits silver, to me they look a bit off being the colours they are.
Gitsplitta wrote:Very interesting experiment graven, well done.

Good to know I'm no longer unbalanced The cloak's the wife's favourite bit, I tend to defer to her artistic eye on such matters.
I've avoided metals altogether on this fig. I had thought about adding more smoke staining to the vents though, fair point.
So, actual proper pics, with a proper camera (still on a cake stand though). I'm going to try to make up a new backdrop as I don't think the white does it many favours tbh. I'm going to continue to steal ideas from weety's delicious brain and go with something underhive-y, or at least less blank and more urban (inspired by the incredible doom of sevarus prime blog over here too: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/120/443805.page)
Anyway, on to pics of Fire Hawk Capt Ignis:
Liking the glow here, myself.
Closer detail shots:
So chuffed with the little gs'd power gauge on the side!
Considering my loathing of freehand, could've been a lot worse!
Oily smoke and rusty beam. Hmm.
Better fist shot!
Hey stop stealing bits of my brain - I need them for thinking!
He looks pretty good - the whole model has a unity of colour - a warm glow probably caused by your use of an all over reddish wash to start - I like that it makes him look like he is next to a fire or an explosion

But... but... it's so tasty?! Go on, just a small slice. I'm really glad I went through the wash layers on this; I could, of course, have done without but I really think it's done the job. Thanks for all your help, as I say.
Solar_lion wrote:Very good face BTY!

Are the eagles on his neew brass from FW?
SL
Is that Heavy as in Metal, or heavy as in Liable to topple? I was a bit concerned about balance, actually, but he's fine, and there's a long pin running up through the base (which is solid dense white resin), through flames and gs'd into a lick of fire where it emerges.
Yup, those be brass eagles. Gits mentioned that sheet, so I picked it up for converting some Dark Age minis and my kitbash assassins, but hadn't really got round to doing much with it. Neatly distracts from the fact that I've used CSM legs, I think, and adds a bit of interest.
As for the face: been my nemesis for a long time. Ultimately, the whole rationale of the gms was to make us challenge ourselves, and I've really tried to push myself with this guy. So, glad you likey.
Heavy as in the overall presence of gravity, stoutness and presence. Kinda the way marines should look. the feel that looking at a terminator gives off. ok .. no more granola for bfast .. back to bacon!
Agreed , your faces have improved. this one especially!
Wow graven what a beautiful model!! i have been lurking to see the finished product before i commented, but holy hell!!
I have to say im not too hot on the pose.....he just doesnt look like he is taking off to me....but then i imagined him 'thats right, im flying...and what?!' and instantly changed my mind
I think the washes have definitely given something special to the model, especially the PF and JP/Cloak, theres subtle levels there, so many that i keep seeing new ones, new layers, colour me impressed.
Also really impressed at how he looks both battle scarred (as well as dirty/grimy, a SM who isnt afraid to get stuck in and get the job done), but also seems to take care of his equipment, to the extent that his purity seal and weapons and such really stand out. May just be me, but i like the dicotomy...
Looks really nice and sounds like a very easy and quick technique for getting models done, I also like the subtle flames on his legs.
I'd say rather than just taking off, it looks like he is descending on a pillar of fire to Melta and then for a bit of overkills punch some xeno heretics lights out.

brilliant work mate!
I think of the pose as him almost hovering over a field of destruction. "Jump" packs always seem silly to me, it's not a bloody pogo stick. I'm very pleased with the overall depth of colour this process has given, and it will be repeated. I think I'm going to use it on the Chaos corpses to add contrast to dark metals of my GKs. Many thanks for your kind comments amigo!

Outstanding work!
Thanks indeedy! Easy yes, quick - well, ish. I think it's one that would speed/scale up easily; I was groping blindly to start with.
Nothing else new to report. Basically agonisingly tired, between work and kids. Really, really, really need to get on with painting GKs for Tuesday night's game v. LeadLegion. I'm secretly hoping I might get some time on Father's day, though I doubt it, somehow.
^ thanks matey. Yup, really psyched! The reds are now all done, so next, sepia wash on whites and reds, then add remaining colours - golds, greens to lenses & nd weapons, blues to psycannons, yellows on headlights...
Don't know how much, if anything, will get done before Tuesday but at least there's paint on everything!
Also, a pic of Ignis with a burning city scape:
Automatically Appended Next Post: Addendum: Wife fell asleep in front of telly = sepia now done
Well,
Father's Day didn't provide quite the amount of paint time I'd hoped, but I snatched minutes here and there during mrs g's bakeathon and building Lego with kids.
I did score all the new washes that I didn't have, along with some ale, a transformer, chocolate and Muppets on blu-ray. And ubiquitous socks, naturally. Huzzah, etc.
Anyway, pics. Everything now need white layers, red highlights and shadows, silver highlights, further base details or, for tanks, weathering (ie mud!), and more green lens work. However, for Tuesday, I'll settle for getting the white done.
PAGK
Las-plas
Interior, as it's modular:
Twin las:
Heavy bolters:
Counts-as Crowe, who's finally done (apart from cat's eye iris in sword)
Brotherhood Emperor's Champion:
And who is this?
Ah: corpsey!
So not bad, with more to follow I hope. I shall endeavour to remember my camera also for a batrep of sorts!
Very nice, Graven. I particularly like guy in the front right of your paint tray (3rd picture down). Also, the dead terminator on the dread bas (Emperor's Children?) looks great!
Thanks mate. It's funny how dependent one becomes on the little cheery messages from one's peers. Gracias amigo!
tipios wrote:looking real nice. The power weapons are topnotch. I like the dead terminators head, might have to use something like that oneday.
The weapons are really easy, which suits me: flat black base, light dryish brush of white (some random, some db, occasional patterns) VGC dark green over the top. Bingo! The death masks work a treat for Emperor's Children; that's actually the one off the Furioso iirc.
whalemusic360 wrote:Looks good Graven, really like he green tinted black weapons. Which TF did you get out of nerd curiosity?
Cheers. Vehicon from TF prime (muscle car like animated Lockdown); my 4 yr old is convinced it's my car (I drive a black civic) - TFs vie with Lego for his attention just now; he inherited a near-complete set of animated toys so it's kinda taken over the house. Wife and you just like trying to work out how to change em without any instructions! Also I was highly tickled when I realised the Jeffrey Coombs voices Ratchett in the new series
Yellowbeard wrote:Very nice, Graven. I particularly like guy in the front right of your paint tray (3rd picture down). Also, the dead terminator on the dread bas (Emperor's Children?) looks great!
Yeah, he's a fave of mine too. And yup, as mentioned, that's an EC - arise my corpses of chaos!
I actually ended up unable to sleep so spent an hour or so doing the white at about 1am. Shattered, but, job done. If I can get the reds done tonight - which tbh I doubt, but you never know - I'll be really pleased. There's an element of, at this stage, what can wait? I can certainly live without the chainmail highlights; I guess we'll just see.
I picked a few of the Animated figs, and none of the prime ones. Had to start sticking with a style, it was getting to crazy otherwise (I went with classics).
@S_L: thanks mate, it's just been a case of working how to the brush strokes at right angles to the blade effectively.
@ miss dee: as in trade or paint one? Confused monkey...
So had to cancel my game against leadlegion at the last minute. I swear to/by/at god, my family is determined to have crises on the one night I try to game. Seriously, why does the world end always on Tuesdays?
Humph. And indeed, harrumph.
I suppose this does mean I can get them finished for 2 weeks' time, when I'm hoping to reschedule for. Along with building 2 more psycannon purifiers, as I think I want to run 6.
This raises, incidentally, an interesting question: if your opponent pulled out a FW psycannon razorback, would you accept that as count-as a rhino with 2 psycannon toting PAGK? It would of course be modular, just I think a nice visual representation. But, feel free to disagree - I'd like your views before I buy / build one.
I did get a happy thing in the mail today: a g=I=s , the lovely Natalya:

Nevermind graven, its a fact of life that friends/family will always come up wth some sort of excuse to mess up pre-arranged plans, better to be spontaneous good luck for the game in a couple of weeks then!
I cant see why anyone would have a problem with you using a turret instead of putting the two guys on top of the rhino to mark that they can fire from it....think of it as a turret with no remote controls for the driver (therefore needs passengers to operate)
EDIT: urgh, terrible spelling.

Automatically Appended Next Post: As an addendum, the last couple of days have been pretty shoddy: family incident was unfortunate, and then I've been completely shafted by my boss over something which I'm swearily angry about (which is not remotely in my nature). It's also my birthday over the weekend, and the wife's family are being most unhelpful which, considering that I will be feeding the whole damn lot of them on the day itself ticks me off. That, and the wife is in turbo cake mode, so I lost father's day to being helper monkey, and all afternoon/evening (which also = hyper, stroppy kids from basically being ignored all day).
[/rant]
Roll on next week...
Thanks guys. Sorry for being a whinge.
I'm actually really looking forward to the weekend, despite the wet weather (seriously, I'm breaking out my ark here): planning a jaunt to GW to look at 6th hoopla during the day, maybe some general shopping in town. Also, have asked my eldest (4 1/2) where thinks would be nice to go for "a special dinner" (I feared the worst tbh!) and he said "the special burger place with the fountain" (Handmade Burger Co, which is exactly what it says on the tin), so it'll be tasty, tasty dead animal and home to watch The Muppets on blu-ray. Rock and roll eh?!
Then invasion of wife's family on Sunday for the day itself, which is actually fine, and sorting out huge bag o' geek for Monday, when I plan on spending the day doing P&M with the Asperger's kids in our school, many of whom are very into their GW. Oh, and beer and socialising Tuesday, followed by end of term Weds, which isn't too shabby.
As for the summer, I'm going to try (try!) to paint up the remainder of my GKs. Watch as I get distracted...

Happy Birthday in advance graven!!
I can only imagine how bad your weather is up there, its bad enough the rest of the time. I mean, im in the South and im wearing a coat in June for God's sake...a COAT!! Sounds like a good day though, burger, shopping (man shopping though...toy soldiers are manly right?...RIGHT?!), and then the Muppets. Jealous.
@ Reiko: croc dundee or Simpsons, take your pic (I see you've played knifey spoon before...) Definitely man shopping, though there may be transformers involved.
@ Miss Dee: och it's ok I've started fiddling already, any particular chapter iconography you want (no promises mind!)
That actually sounds like a pretty terrific plan there graven. I hope you enjoy it!
I'll be finishing up the 3rd grot tank (which will give me a full squad of rokkit buggies!), going fishing with my youngest & finally getting our boat on the water... and perhaps sneaking a game in at the local shop. Gotta take those daddy-child moments whenever you can get them mate, they don't last forever.

Thanks for the birthday wishes and cake love (wow, that sounds so NSFW). Had a great day yesterday - treated myself to a pre-order of the 6th Ed Man-bag, watched The Muppets which to my delight the wife loved, had tasty burger meal - and today being the day itself I get to see finished cakes:
Apparently she didn't have room for "Nanananananana-Batman". Tasty, tasty coffee and walnut bat-cake.
My favorite bit is the land raider tread marks round the edges. Mmm, classic vanilla sponge.
Got a good haul: Storm Eagle (squee! Mentors getting some love again) and Solomon Lok, a metal =][= and acolytes, new watch, earphone winder (to prevent cable rage), Blu-rays of Forbidden Planet (legend!) and Tintin (new version), DVD of Tomorrow When the War Began (tremendous movie, go on the aussies), Batman v Catwoman lego, and new Batman graphic novel. Quality haul.
Weather's decent for the first time in days, so going to risk the wrath of gods and declare a BBQ!
It's weird to think, though, that 2 years ago today I was told that my then 5-week had to have emergency open-heart surgery with a very real chance of not making it. Weird, as now it's like living with the tasmanian devil. Good weird, but weird. Huge swell of support back then from y'all, and very much appreciated still.
Whilst I'm in a lovin-mood (ew), just noticed: Pg 50! Crikey!

Yesterday's WIPs, btw:
Natalya's base; still needs washed, but this is the Tau scheme, basically, that you'll see on the next wee while. There's a layer of crackle glaze between the purple and the turquoise; not particularly impressed.
Culexus, largely done.
Horned Locust corpse: can you tell I've been playing with turquoise?

On which note, some good (well, ish) pics to follow.
Today is our school's activity day (wait, what? Look, sh, just bear with me), in which teeming hordes of kids go off to various outdoorsy type activities. Woo, etc. I don't get to go on anything ( )as I co-ordinate the whole lot.
This year, however, I decided to spend the day with a couple of our Asperger's pupils, as they're into 40k, so a happy day was spent with paints, tanks, wraithlords and some magnificent piano. It was great to spend time on a quasi-social level with some of our most introverted, isolated kids. Also, I got some odds and ends done, by way of teaching techniques.
Fred the Dread, my psyfleman with chaos corpse. Torso's not quite done as not sure how to do his power weapon. I'm sorely tempted to do it as a gratuitously fleshy pink.
Big Boy, my much-loved LRC. Now with multimelta turret, and a lot of muck. I do like using the dust, earth and desert new texture paints together for tanks.
And the razorbacks. Heavy Bolter, aka Old Spot:
Hunstman, with its Twin-las:
Honestly, clean tanks - why?!
And "Safeguard", named for a Transformer (woo!); I never normally bother with internal detailing, but we've got to keep briancj happy somehow...
So - busy, busy bee, me. Not sure on updates for the next wee while, but certainly will be back in the saddle Monday: school holidays: whoop, etc.
Hey, Graven I know you're a teacher, so it kinda comes with the territory, but I think that you take the time to hang out with Asperger's students and to teach them to paint is just... really cool. Well done.
Now, the vehicles all look great! I particularly like razorbacks, especially Old Spot (great name!), but the lascanon on Huntsman and the interior of Safeguard are quite nice. I think the weathering on them all is very weel done.
