One day nerdy, you will have to get your ass over here and stay at my place for a week or so.
We´ll play rpg and 40k all days long and we´ll both use our very best looking minis and make lots of high quality battle reports showing of all kinds of minis, builds and strategies.
I just have to convince you to take the trip, preferably sometime before we get old and senile since that would severely affect the quality of the batreps.

That sounds amazingly cool! Once I get my trip to America done with Kristy then I'll use my powers of Nerd charm to basically tell her i'm off to Goblinburg for a week! lol and don't worry it will be before we're old and senile! I couldn't think of anything cooler than playing a game with out armies and producing IA quality photo's and bat reps! and just imagine how huuuge our forces will be in 12 months or so! now i just need to get my painting mojo on again and keep painting! i've ransacked a box I found and hiding inside was 10 Necron warriors,3 scarab swarms, 1 destroyer and a Necron lord so it looks like I'll be doing a small Necron force now as well! not a bad start for nothing!

It can get annoying cleaning the AB between colors...but I have found that the gravity feed cup makes it much easier to change colors without stopping. WIndex in a spray bottle really helps, but I find that my spray regulator gets caked, when that happens, you really have to stop and clean. I'm going to order one of those little ab cleaning bubble things, see if that helps speed up the cleaning any.

Hi everyone! So sorry for the hiatus lately, as some know my work has been crazy lately and hasn't given me any time to do anything I want to, so no painting time and miserable weather hasn't helped either
But, I have been 'collecting' models just obtaining things i want to paint up and show you all soon! I'm waiting on a few to arrive in the mail but i have assembled a few and got them ready so here's some pics of some without paint for you, it'd be nice to see what you all would like to see painted first?
Relic Contemptor Dreadnought
Assembled my Sternguard squad finally after receiving my bolters from FW, i'm happy with the simplicity of them still conveying their standing within the force, I think the FW boarding helmets and the box magazine scoped bolters coupled with them all having matching studded pads looks veteran enough?
And lastly today some shots of my fledgling Necron force I was given these models by jirc a while ago and only recently found them again and considered another army, I wanted to add to the whole undead in space theme and i removed the Necron heads and replaced them with skulls I found on ebay at the same scale! it really gives the models some needed dynamism and silent undead robots with screaming leering faces is even more scary imo i'm still contemplating a scheme but i've been inspired by leohart and am thinking a bone colour for the main colour with black and metal spot colour and red lenses!
That's it atm, I'll really try and paint again soon! don't forget me I'm still Dakka-ing at work so I'm not entirely out of the loop yet!
catch you soon.

Post by: lipsdapips
Lemme just say Nerdfest, that that Relic Contemptor is KICK
A$$$$$$$$$$$$!
I almost always invisage dreadnoughts being hulky and slow, then the comtemptors made them seem a wee bit quicker, and this is a fantastic dynamic pose that shows the true deadliness of thesse war machines, fantastic! Great work as always Nerdfest ;P
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Thanks LDP! good to see you, you're right these models really give them some speed and great scope for modeling sweet poses :-) it was bloody tricky to assemble though with no instructions and super glue that sets when you're trying to pose him!
I can't wait to paint him up, but I'll see what everyone thinks i should do first! :-)
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I love the skulls on those necrons Damo... fantastic idea!
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
They work quite well don't they Gits! just something a little different to the norm :-) at first i thought they were just a fraction small, but on the warriors they look good! the paint will be the real test though to see how it comes together!
what do you reckon I paint first from the assembled collection?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Consider how much "marine fatigue" you've got. If you need a big mental break, paint the 'crons. If you need a smaller one, the dread. If you're "in the zone" for painting marines... do the sternguard.
Make your creativity and/or fatigue work for you rather than trying to force it. You'll get better results that way.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Well, since i've been on an unintentional break I might use the Crons to get my brush on! and ease myself back into it! who knows i might get inspired and start buying more! :-) lol

The Relic Contemptor Dreadnought has an awesome running pose. I like it quite a bit.
RE: sternguard, as far as I know, if you buy the finecast sternguard box it is just that: some older marks of armour pieces with a ferrox pattern bolter. I think you are set there.
It must be me but when I see that laughing Necron with a gauss rifles. I think of the skull puppet in this skid and he says: "I glance you. I glance you!!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uwOL4rB-go

Post by: nerdfest09
Mr Pooo, I have an abundance of Necron heads! they're yours if you want them? and yes, Necrons now :-) I found them and assembled them as they were given to me by a mate a little while ago, and when i saw a squad a HQ and a destroyer complete i thought why not? I can collect it slowly and just do a fairly basic paint on them for fun! so now i'm bidding on a triarch stalker, 40 warriors and 6 wraiths and have just bought 30+ 'robot beetles' so yep,....... taking it slooooooowly!

Righto, I need some input tonight if i may ask politely?
I'm starting to feel the painting urge wash over me and i want to get some things organised, tomorrow i need to order some paints and in the batch i want to order the main colour fro my Necron force, I was going to paint them up in a bone theme and make SkeleCrons with this colour primer http://www.thecombatcompany.com.au/cp3012-army-painter-colour-primer-spray-skeleton-bone-undercoat.asp but I've seen a few armies that scheme now and while it looks good i'd like to be a bit different and am seriously leaning towards this colour http://www.thecombatcompany.com.au/cp3013-army-painter-colour-primer-spray-necrotic-flesh-undercoat.asp keeping in mind that the accents would be done in a dark metal and black theme (have a little look at the smaller pics to see the shade proper)
In the meantime i will (I promise) be working on my contemptor the next couple of days and popping pics up :-) as well as my Accord wagon model I got! a bit left field i admit but I will use some of my Nerd skills to 'cool' it up some!
so please let me know your opinion on what shade to necronise my army!

so, one vote for Necrotic flesh then!

Post by: whalemusic360
Accord wagon? Like a honda? Why do they even make a model for that?

Aaaaanyway, yes i love my Honda and i'm probably a closet wagonist, but! what colour for my crons? I'm seriously thinking Necrotic flesh guys, but what colour ink/wash to shade them? brown/black/green?
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
I think that for the plates with a green/brown wash, and bronze underpinnings would look interesting.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Bronze you say! I hadn't thought of that :-) like a dark gold perhaps? then I can time save and wash the lot with an umber vallejo wash? and as the army painter now make paints in droppers 100% colour match with the primers i can highlight the edges back up easily!

I really like the idea of SkeleCrons. I liked the black. & white scheme that was WD a couple months ago, but now that you mention Necrotic Flesh, I think that's the way to go. A green wash make them look truly rotten. And I like the bronze idea very much. Add some verdigris through a turquoise wash, and you might be able to tie the two together. Make 'em realy decrepit and run down.

Actually Nerd has just got his "mic-and-speakers" to use with skype, it took a while to arrive to his eh, dusty village but finally he has one.
What I would like to know however are two things:
How much the postal service charged for such a big and heavy package and...
How did they fit an usb device onto a brass trumpet horn?
Maybe in nerds village they got the slim "modern" version?
Nerd: I suggest you go for the stereo "mic-speakers" seen here in your village catalogue:

I know i've been a bit quiet lately so I really wanted to finish something to get myself back in the groove and also show you i'm not dead yet! and I was pretty happy with him when he was finished, I really just wish that red was easier to photograph! It's so hard to show what the actual colour is like but it's nice I promise
I was so inspired by doing something that i also managed to finish my 3 drop pods! they're not as good as i would like but they're passable for playing with, i realised I need to do a bit of work on the bolters inside the pods but I'm sure you'll forgive me! I also didn't add the restraints inside as i just don't like them in there and i can imagine the central guidance system telescoping down to allow a dread to fit this way!
Hmmm, three drop pods and three dreadnoughts! coincidence? i don't think so! next up i think it's sternguard time and then onto the FW Chappy dread!

Cool blog dude! Epic painting, and yet so simple at times
A true sorce of inspiration (at least for me)
Consider me subbed!
Cheers from Norway!
Welcome aboard the nerd train! the drink cart will be around promptly at 12:00! seriously I am glad you find some of my techniques inspiring and worth noting! lets hope i continue to entertain!

Ah GiraffeX, good to see you again, I also (without trying to toot my own horn) like the metallic on him, I was considering doing all the warriors and characters the same but it would be too time consuming for what i want so he was a good test piece and still looks the goods by himself I may try and get a squad or 4 done of my warriors soon and see how they line up with the lord!

Hey again guys! just a little random thinking from me! I have pretty much got my Flesh eaters army sorted and i am well on the way with my SkeleCrons, whilst ransacking my bitz box I have a 'spare' 10 marines now, what to do?..... whaaaaaat to do?....... Oh, i know! start 'another' marine army! codex marines this time and slowly done as far as collecting goes but painting in my usual quick fashion but who? after much gnashing of teeth and searching through the web about various battles and past triumphs to find a chapter that appealed to me as much in theme as in colour scheme, something a little different, something a little nerdfest.... I decided on doing an army of.....[+] vox report terminated+........ unautherized user[+]...... [+]scrapcode recognised attempting to filter[+]....shutting terminal down........ 0523 hours......[+]

Opinions please guys just quickly :-) if, for instance i was painting a 'ye olde' knight and had to paint his tabard over the armour, what 2 contrasting colours would look good together? i'm thinking green/blue or red/blue at the moment but open to other suggestions at this stage?

Post by: leohart
If in doubt, goes with white or black.

It would look striking on him but I was wanting to add a little splash of colour to an otherwise sombre model :-)

How about golden yellow + black?
or Blue with White?
I am pretty sure Bretonnian have plenty of such colour combo.

Thanks for the input guys :-) I was thinking of colours i don't paint much, so blue/green came into it but i also like the brightness of having a yellow? but now I'm thinking that white and green would be cool? still bright and different to what i'm doing lots of and will suit the miniature i'm painting, thoughts?

Ha Arakasi! ;-) maybe i would have considered it if we were doing a bit better in the olympics! ...... still might? Automatically Appended Next Post: Update w.i.p pics I didn't have as much time as i wanted today to paint but i managed to assemble another 20 SkeleCrons as well as started to put the base layers on my Death Co. Dread and got the armour on my 10 man assault squad done, just the details and lenses etc to do, I popped the bare heads i painted a while ago in the marines and they look pretty good only need to do a little more to the bearded guy (hmmm, red suit, big white beard, comes out of the sky.... Santa?)
Well, lets start with the Crons, nothing much to show just some assembling and heads!
Here's the beginning of my DC Dread, i used the new GW Nuln Oil and I actually like it it flows much smoother and covers nicely!
And lastly for today my Assault squad, ten men ready to rain down righteous fury! i should have them finished tomorrow I hope!
thoughts? or just keen to get me to finish them

Assault squad finished, I present to you the famous 'Jaws of Doom' assault squad there's a few little things i'll get back to and finish later like exhaust glow etc. but for now they're complete and ready to do battle! I will try and get some better shots (as usual) later as I find red sooo hard to photograph right so it doesn't appear washed out, these guys are a little different in shades than my Tac troops, i used the Vallejo equivalents and some new GW washes again (i'm quite pleased with the new ones!) finally washed with Baal red (I bought up about 7 pots ) so they're just a little more orange/red than my others but not out of place which is a relief when you see the whole force together (which is coming along nicely!) next up will be my DC. Dread which i really want to make something special as i've named him close to my heart
Here's a few of individuals:
And a sort of group-ish shot!
Catch you all tonight fellow Nerds!

Vitruvian, thank you, hardly stunning but I really enjoy these guys and i hope the love shines through a bit! :-) i'm counting down until my next days off to get into that DC. Dread!

I assume you think the models are gorgeous and not referring to me Imperial Monkey? and that you like the SkeleCrons? I hope they look a bit different than what you usually see around the traps, the skulls really make them much more animated but still gives them that sense of relentless silent malice that we know and love from these bad boys! I have just finished priming 40 warriors three Destroyers and sixteen Scarab bases, now they're all one colour they really look good together, as for the eyes, I'm not sure how i'll approach them yet, my gut is telling me to leave them quite dark and recessed but my exhuberant side wants me to do the very centre like a softly lit green globe? but boy that would take some time to do!
The thing I love about your models, every single one looks like they have just stepped off a battlefield. They look real! I absolutely love everything you do. Please, never stop.
Proto, thanks mate! I do try and put some personality in every marine i do, i believe they each have a story to tell, i prefer my armour to be fairly clean but the faces to tell a story, that's why my force has an abundance of bare heads in it, I feel it gives the force and marines some character whether tacticaly it's sound advice or not! and if you seriously like everything I do? you're mad! but don't stress I won't stop for a good many.... many ..... many years yet!
Astonishing as always, Damo!
I love the way you do your reds, I can't explain what it is...but I love it!
LDP you've got over your percieved slight against the Ultramarines and come back to say hi then and as always I appreciate every kind word of encouragement! it's strange y'know I have been collecting and painting on and off since i was 15 and because my friend wanted Blood Angels I thought it meant I couldn't have an army of them but I really loved the look of the blood red/orange armour and it's taken me nearly 16 years to finally paint some red marines up! and it's awesome, i enjoy painting reds and I find it pretty simple and i wish i had of started years ago!
As ever, your m4d skillz make me weep with joy
Seriously nice colours man, bravo.
So what have you called the DC Dread and whats the inspiration if you dont mind me asking
lol Thanks Kitch! m4d skillz eh! .... hardly! just years of banging my head against a desk and talking to as many great artists as i could, I'm still learning but only in the last 12 months have i really been happy with my painting, and it's all you guys that stuck with me in the start that have kept me going without losing faith, so if i can do it anyone can, sheesh dude you should have seen some of my early stuff omg.... terrible!
And about my DC Dread, I don't mind you asking, I won't go into emotional detail as the internet is a dangerous place for baring your soul, but when i was born I was a premature baby.... very premature, 12 weeks prem and to complicate things i was one half of twin boys, myself and my brother, sadly we spent our time after birth in intensive care and my brother didn't make it past 8 weeks due to complications and lack of strength so as i've always felt him near me and wondered what we would do together I thought it would be fitting to honor him with naming my DC dread after him as i'm 100% sure he's be as nerdy as I am and he'd enjoy being an unstoppable machine! so that's the short story but from hence forth my Dread shall be named 'Brother Byron' and i plan on really trying to make the model as good as i can!
I agree with you regarding nun oil, the new washes aren't half bad. Beautiful models as always.
Hi there LOD! I've only used a couple of the new washes/shades so far but I like them a lot, they flow much easier and really stick to the recesses while leaving panels quite clean with no tide marks that i've seen to date!
Thanks again everyone for hanging out with me and perservering through these last couple of months of painting funk in a few short weeks hopefully I will be back on my normal roster at work and won't be doing a sould depleting 77 hours of graveyard shifts in a row! I'll be painting on friday so look out over the weekend for an update with pics
cheers again!

Amazing! My only real nitpick would be the new flesh eaters chapter symbol- I prefer the old one. This is a matter of taste, however, and I think that they're incredible, regardless. I will have to take some pictures of my flesh eaters, which are currently on the painting table, thanks to you

Got a few different pics at the mo for ya i needed to seriously re organize and clean my Nerd lair desperately! so i did and I can now find my bitz/brushes/models here's how she now stands (in case you were ever wondering)
I hijacked a pair of drawers and re assigned them to be my containers for magazines terrain and gaming accessories
Also primed the Crons! couple of shots of them and the last one actually shows the proper colour of them they're not bone or white but a lovely rotting flesh green!
here's one of the shelf of things that aren't painted this is what you all have to look forward to over the next few months!
and another couple of the army so far charging across the shelf of death! Raaaaaaah!
and here's the start of my Deathwatch marine for InmyGravenimage's Deathwatch comp doesn't look like much at the moment but he gets primed and started tomorrow!
and one more thing! a little bit of a teaser for 2 things! the first is the 'addition' a beautiful new Cyclone launcher from my good friends at Chapterhouse it'll be available soon but i managed to sweet talk my way into getting one early! and second, he's on a termie, nothing new there, except i'm not painting him up in the FleshEaters colour he'll be done in my new armies chapter scheme!.... which no one has figured out yet! (or even pestered me for that matter )...... (probably because i'm toying with 2 ideas and don't know what to do!)
Cheers everyone! love to know what you think of my clean workstation! I've got an update of my DC. Dread ready for tomorrow so i don't clutter it up tonight

really liking the pattern on the dread!
I was watching Thor on tv last week, and really like some of the patterning on their costumes and sets, this reminds me of that. I like the spacing on it, that's it's all pretty equal between the positive and negative spaces : )
thumbs up! : )
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
Cheers Finnan, I was initially inspired by the Chaplains helmet in the Ultramarines movie, the silver with swirls through it really looked good and I had thought about doing something similar for a while now :-) but the examples you mention in Thor caught my eye too!
I plan on finishing him and hopefully posting him up tomorrow night! any other suggestions you can make for the patterns? I am going to add a brighter highlight on the very top edges and i'm thinking pure black under? thoughts?
23173
Post by: finnan
I guess it depends on what you want to achieve:
if you highlight the pattern itself, it'll make it look like an engraved/embossed pattern on the surface of the armour, which would be cool. But you could also just do a flat highlight on the armour and the pattern so it looks as if it's been painted on. I think either would look great, it's a lovely design, and unusual to have those soft curves on the flat, straight planes of the armour...
... soft curves on Marine armour...? almost Slaaneshi... heresy!!! ; ) lol

Wow thanks gentlemen! that was some pretty massive praise from some seriously good painters! thank you again! I'm glad you like him, he looks pretty nice next to his pod and the other dreads! I agree that I got the balance pretty good with the colours used, i didn't want the freehand or the red wings to dominate but blend together to give you something to look at that was pleasing to the eye! I don't think i'll attempt the freehand on all my DC models but if I give them a rhino i'll do it for sure!
I'm looking forward to playing another game and using the models i painted recently for another epic photo bat rep
is there any constructive criticism on him? or is he really some of my best work? i'm not fishing for compliments as I love him anyway but if there's something I can improve on for next time I'd like to learn

You realise of course that you have to now do a blue Libby dread with red and white accents (and a shield) and a red contemptor with yellow accents. Dunno how or why you'd do a green one though. Maybe an allied Titan? Hulk smash...

Post by: nerdfest09
Lol, Avenger dreads in drop pods! how can that be anything but awesome? I might have to visit that idea one day! ..... or do my own painting comp?
speaking of which, I started the DeathWatch marine today, got most of the armour done and started his pads and face is nearly done as well, this is where he stands:
I also assembled and started my Sanguinary Guard models Primed them with The Army Painter Leather brown spray, then mixed 50/50 Snakebite leather and Burnished gold and over brushed the whole model, then washed them with Agrax Earthshade (which is still wet in the pics) next I started working on my banner bearer for the squad, I didn't like the one that came with the kit and I wanted to p aint a similar method as to my other banner guy, so in order to keep the banner a bit smaller and combat oriented I used a fantasy banner that was torn and shorter, but to fit it I had to clip off the original banner and make sure the new one covered the hand holding the banner pole, anyway this is how the guys look so far.
the colour could work well for a Minotaurs too I think? I should get a fair whack more done tomorrow

Cool, i'll keep working on them today. yep agrax is the new devlan mud and imo much nicer to use! I was planning on highlighting right up to mithril to make them look almost silvery? Which would look good when i do the wings in red!

Stunning work pal I love the banner most of all, it never made sense how this tough as you like ceramite armour that deflects bullets gets really worn and weathered, yet the banners that get singed as soon as you fart on them always look pristine, cracking stuff

Cool, bearded space wolf sang guards
As for kitting out your DC. Depends (are they characters or just infantry...to lazy to check up).
They get expensive so keep the cost down, gear them out for one purpose and make sure they are able to do what they are geared up to do.
Anti horde = flame weapons and the occasional power weapon.
Anti MEQ = more power weapons and the occasional fist and no flame weapons.
If you start mixing and want it all they will end up costing to much.
14392
Post by: nerdfest09
I took your advice and just kept them simple, gave them the banner for the extra attack and I threw in a power fist because I couldn't get one set of arms to line up properly :-) lol, next week I should finish them in a sitting hopefully!
LDP, thanks for the compliment on the gold, I WILL get a nicer shot to show, it looks pretty cool irl and makes me want to hurry up and work on the wings and get them together!

I haven't got any further on the DW model, it's just not as good as I want it :-( and the calibre of others entries to date is outstanding, so unless I get really inspired I don't think he'll be anywhere near as nice as my Sang Guard, which i have to say I am stoked at how nice they're looking, the silvery gold is different and looks great so far ;-)

Your DW guy looks awesome man, the paint is crisp, the detail on his face is really nicely picked out, it's like someone froze and shrunk a real guy!
If you want to make him more eye catching, why not drill the bolt gun barrels, add a gak load of icky gooey blood trails coming off his sword and put him on a diorama base a top a hill surrounded by cleaved xenos and or traitors?!

Yanno what, Ive wanted to see someone attempt that army for years. Although admittedly, I cant stand the color of gold in person, but I think gold is such a PITA to paint well, Ive been wanting to see someone try and pull it off. Much like Squats, I think. I do not like Squats at all, but when someone makes a Squat IG army, and its done well, I REALLY enjoy it. And a nicely Painted Ultra Marines force. Though I wont say that to loudly

Mister Cracker, so good of you to join us here at Nerdington Manor my friends and I are delighted you have made an appearance with us this evening, I must say 'ol chap that beard is coming along swimingly! such lush growth i could only dream of, well done sir!
Aaaaand now back to normality! thanks KC, the sang's were actually really easy to paint gold once I figured out a method for it and if you batch painted marines using it, you could churn out a decent White Minatours force really fast and to a pretty good level imo, I can agree with you on some armies as well, you love to look at a really well done force but would cringe trying to do one yourself! for me, chaos springs to mind, too many fiddly little pointy bits and clutter, but I always look if someone's doing something special
And a nicely Painted Ultra Marines force. Though I wont say that to loudly

A Chainsword is no more powerful than a fist in 6ED, which sucks, because it's my favorite Grimdark CC weapon.

Interesting! so either would suffice in a squad depending on points? I like the idea of giving them just the 'ol trusty bp & cs and pointing them at the bad guys, but I think I may need to add a melta or something a bit more punchier? then again, I've heard about 6th using the closest model to take wounds? so it may be tricky to position some hard hitting stuff? thoughts? enough questionmarks?

Loving the skullz on Chaos dude - just looks really creepy, which is the point I suppose lol

Thanks fin, I thought the same about the armour, cold and mean sort of burnished and polished to it's changed colour somewhat? and I like the way it sits in with the rest of the army now, plus when the wings go on tomorrow they'll look even better! :-)
And Chaos Lord is kinda creepy which is good, i hope I can smooth it a bit more and when I paint it doesn't look like they are just stuck onto him? I'm just waiting on his head from Puppetswar but I should prime him tomorrow as well and make a start :-)

Is the apoth arm for the termi recast, or just painted white already? Most GK players have spare, you don't need 1 per 5 in any list.

In regards to how to arm the termie master, it depends on how you want to use him and the load out of the unit he will accompany into battle.
The other option is to magnetise the arms so you can swap them around until you find the load out you prefer.

Post by: nerdfest09
Hey guys, cheers as always, Graven the body is the FW Lufgt Huron model and i'm going to hack it up for a Nerd spin on it ;-)
as far as arming him goes, I would like him to accompany some termies into battle, either sort I have cc and tac ones, would he be able to hang with each sort od squad reliably? I know cc makes sense but could the tac ones shoot their way through until he gets into range? I only cracked my brand new rule book this morning after my b'day yesterday! :-) so is there anything 6th should fill me in on before i go ahead and glue stuff together?

Howz about we just paaaaartyyyyyyyy! ? :-) Automatically Appended Next Post: I have had a few requests about how I painted the armour of my Sanguinary guard models so I thought i'd paint some up to show you how i do it, I chose the Terminator armoured chapter master/captain as I could paint the main body and when I work out how best to arm him I plan on giving him red arms to tie him in with his loyal troops! any more advice on arming him is welcome too
well, firstly I tidied the model up as it was a little rough in places but overall not too bad, then I undercoated it with the Army Painter coloured Primer Leather brown. as shown here with a nice smooth coating:
A quick wash with that beautifully easy to use Agrax Earthshade shade:
o.k, now we start the gold, mix 50/50 Burnished Gold & Snakebite Leather paint (old range) add a little water and overbrush the entire model with it, this will give you a really dark gold base:
Wash this layer with Agrax Earthshade to re confirm the shading and details:
then layer on pure Burnished Gold over the armour plates, leaving the previous layer in the deeper parts etc.:
to start highlighting, mix Burnished Gold with a tiny brush tip of Mithril Silver paint, I can't give exact measure here as the Mithril really overpowers the gold easily but if you mix on the same part of your palette as the gold you will see the original colour on the edge of your mix thus enabling you to see the progression of the colour, you want it just slightly more silver at this stage:
now add slightly more Mithril silver again to the mix on your palette and highlight the edges and top parts of the models armour:
Finally with a fine brush and pure Mithril Silver highlight the final highlights where you have before been highlighting the edges and it should look something like this:
i hope that was clear enough to follow? any questions or more pics just ask me lets hope it works for you guys!
Cheers
Damo

Hi guys, I had a day home today not feeling 100% but had a bit of a paint I laid down the first coat of red on my 3 speeders after a wash of Agrax and started working on the Chaos Lord for my mate 50shadesofgiggity!
basic boring ol shot of speeders
here's the Lord, worked the armour and gave it a wash to start with, it is basically the same recipe as my FE's but I washed first with Black to make the red a darker shade than my marines.
Now for the cool bits I watched a movie yesterday which inspired me when painting the skulls on his armour..... yeah you can kinda tell I watched ghost Rider 2 I'm stoked with the result I think it turned out nicely!

Hey Vik, you have been busy getting through 40 pages thanks for your patience perusing my progress of my principal painting predicaments! and I appreciate the kind words about my painting 'talents' I just like to figure out the quickest way to make something look pretty decent and it's included some happy suprises like my gold armour, I hated painting gold and so i sat down and thought about it and came up with my recipe and my patented 'Nerdstick' I think i can let you use the concept that came about as my Exemplars had black torso's with red arms and I couldn't be arsed painting everything individually so I primed all the arms red and all the bodies seperately then stuck them together after they'd dried on my patented 'Nerdstick' only tip I can give you if you make one of my patended 'Nerdstick' use plain plastic push pins so you can add a small amount of platic glue to get your bits to attatch to, i could only find shiny girly ones that had a coating on them so i had to resort to Blu Tac!
I'm guessing from now on in my blog, terrain will make a bigger appearance as I just love good terrain! and now i'm hoarding a heap of hints and ideas I'll be excited to make some cool stuff, as well as my normal mini painting antics! still need to finish 3 speeders then i'll put my other models to a poll on which to do next!

Lol, well Vik, allow me to oficially welcome you aboard the good ship nerdfest! :-) we will be stopping all ports from terrainville right through to the city of Xenos and many other exciting destinations on the way! keep a lookout on the port side for a huge pod of frolicking marines of the space variety, they're playful little tykes aren't they!
I'm glad the little touches to the shrine work so far! I kept them tucked back so you couldn't tell they don't run the whole length of each walkway :-) I have a few crazy ideas i'm working out that Dave is helping with, perhaps I can rope you in for some conference calls? or at least to see what you think! and even tonight at work I've been inspired to make a terrain piece from a Contemptor dreadnought undergoing battle field repairs or something similar with glowing screens and pipes and water effects and cables and oil and Oh my!

Nice!
Good job on all the painting, be it green or red or black or gold or any colour you like, all good.
I shall be keeping an eye on your work.
Although I should crack on with some of my painting rather than reading and oggling other peoples blogs so much.

Looking really good so far, hard to tell at this scale as to details, but from your level of work on your "normal" guys that is probably not an issue.
