Thanks Spanky, it was a good game. These last few games I've had have got me back into the spirit of things, I had begun to lose interest in 40K, but I've got back into the swing of things.
I've been painting away today, started on my Talos.
I'm going to have a play around with my army list, see if I can come up with a more effective 1750 list that doesn't rely on unnecessary upgrades, but I'll be limited to what models I've got.

That's good news, we all hit hobby bumps now and again. I do all the time, keep hitting them though mainly because I'm missing bits.

this is soo true, i just went out and bought a box of Dwarf warriors and thunderers so i can finally fix my stuff (i was so disheartened by there destruction at the hands of zak my brothers son) and it has rekindled the hobby bug in me, im now going to re-paint my dwarfs in the original colours i wanted ( GW has stopped making the purple i needed, they do it again now) so im pretty chuffed

I find the best way to avoid the bumps is to mix it up a little, for instance my guard infantry company is such a grind I often find it difficult to motivate myself to work on it, so every now and again I'll do something a little different. For instance had yesterday off set myself the challenge of building the 40 remaining guard I needed, to break it up a little I also built a counts as Kell and painted some search lights.

I might be interested if I can get an army together in time, however the chances of me getting 3k points together for that final Apoc game is slim to none I'm afraid.
18594
Post by: geordie09
I'm planning or re-writing the spec for the apoc game once the new rules are out Nick. Seems allies may be a must for many people to get to the required points. there are others who insist they can bring thousands more so if I can figure out how to shuffle things around, place this player with that then it won't be too much of a problem. I hope.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Even with allies I would have a problem fitting my own fluff, as always I manage to create problems for myself. Then there's the issue of the models I would want to use, would an army made up of absolutely no GW models even be allowed?

Stop bringing that up, it's not my fault that everyone else in the game had a bunch of pychers. I'd have taken you all on if I'd had the chance.
By the way my new guard army has a tank.
Still a WIP (still need a big plastic tube for the gun) but coming along nicely for an hours work. It's based on a 1/35 scale Cromwell, I've put it alongside a Razorback that's missing it's turret and a marine to show it's size. I reckon it's about right for a counts as Leman Russ.

Yeah I got mine yesterday, not got far into it yet as I only started looking late last night and i'm not skimming due to paranoia but most the changes seem reasonable so far.
I like snap fire, I like being able to pre measure, I like that i get to deside which order differnt Strength/AP weapons are resolved.
Had to re-read the wound allocation thing a couple of times and still not 100% sure I get it. Shooting goes as normal, saves are taken then wounds are allocated to the nearest models which is simple enough. The multiple armor values/cover saves confused me a little as it kind of sounds like you revert to the old method, who chooses which saves are taken or is it just the closest again.

yeah the wound alo was a bit confusing, but its really simple in game (ask wesker) it basically works in this order when you shoot a complex unit (multi wound or saves) shoot, wound
Now alocate to closest model, if has diferent save (and is not a character) it takes saves until its dead (so 1 at a time) as soon as its failed a save alocate to next model and rolls saves (all together if same, 1 at a time if diferent) until wound pool is empty
If character, take saves as above, if failed MAY roll look out sir to shove it off to another model in unit of his choice.
hope that helps

Think i'd just got to assault last night.
The different terrain types seems a little fantsy to me I can see them not getting used that much, but I haven't read them in full yet. Interested by mystery terrain but could see a to roll chart.
I got the cards but three were missing so have had to send them back, the side/power allocation is included so you don't need to buy a white dwarf like James said. I only had a quick read but I like the look of biomancy.
Can't figure out why guard don't get divination though, emperor tarot, but it's probably in the interest of balance. The Primaris Pysker got 100% better this edition.
Still think some of the Special rules are a little redundant, not read them all, but "torrent" really did the inferno cannon need a special rule name, it's just more stuff for me to to go "eeerrr what" about when people mention it
All in all my first edition change hasn't been as scary as I feared.

Post by: Redacted_01
I remember Gorkamorka, that was awesome.
There were a few guys, myself included, interested in playing necromunda a while back, if someone organised it.
60280
Post by: Calloused
Gorka is awesome, especially with the "I want to be an Ork" Digga mob.
Or the muties.
Though Gorkamunda is for when your Necro gang gets just too "pimpin" for regulr play, so ya crashland em on gorkamorka, and see how long they last till their nothing more than a really well equipped Digga gang.
Necro's fun and easy though. all you have to do is grab some scenery, 8-10 guys, thne try to murder the other guy before they murder you. Though you have to balance quantity vs quality, as en expensive loss, can be a crippling loss.
But it allows for so many possibilities. One of the guy's I've been playing with for instance, has an all Squat gang that currently lead on kills, I got a gang of muties with me Scavvies, just need to pick up some 'stealers for my Genestealer cult gang, got me Orks though they are painfully hard to replace.
Even encourages you to make and design ya own gang Houses.
Because the rules for Necro were never updated past like, 1st edition though, it does require tweaking in certain areas to simplify everything, but the potential for expansion is incredible.
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
I was interested in staring Necromunda due to the modelling possibilites it offered, plus it felt like it had the potential for strong narrative game play.
I started reading the rules, never played it before, but never finished

It has pretty awesome narrative possibilities, because it never said you -have- to play it inside the Necormunda hive. Others exist, so you can literally customize every aspect of the world, with ya custom hive, and ya custom gangs, with custom outlands.
So you have your House, the skills you want, the look you want, struggling to make an impact on a potentially brand new hive, with even vehicles in the streets.
It can literally be anything you want.

Yakromunda is a great resource to use to get the basics of putting a gang together, after you've put 2-3 rosters together, it'll take you 5-10 minutes to do a fresh roster with pen and paper. And rules are super easy to obtain with the pdf's sat on their site.
PM me if you get stuck though, I got another pdf with the stuff to create your own House I can send over.

I think I may have found something more difficult to put together than the old metal Thunderfire Cannon. The tracks on an Emhar kit of a British MkIV Tank. Just getting one set on was a pain, still got another set to do. Oh and a second full kit too. Oh well should be worth it in the long run as they'll be turned in to a pair of Malcadors.Still not settled on which variants but I'm thinking a regular one and an annihilator, which means I'll probably buy 2 more kits at some point to turn into a defender and an infernus.
Once I've added the super structure required for the limited arc turret it should be pretty close to the size of the forgeworld models which are actually surprisingly small (basically a streched Russ). I will admit though I'm not looking forward to doing the sponsons they are going to be tricky to get right.

They're not actually that big, same width (or as near as makes no difference) as a Leman Russ, a little bit taller and about an extra third longer. Plus for a super heavy the points cost is minimal, 320pts for a regular one and 335 for an annihilator both upgraded. Then again they are just Leman Russes with worse armour and 2 structure points.

Force Lock states "cannot advance". You do an advance if you are affected by Magnus Feat, but you can't. The Force Lock prevents the advancement from Magnus Feat.

Indeed, but there's not just flamethrowers, there's flaming swords, flaming maces and all sorts of other ways to set everything that's not you on fire.

Thanks for the game enjoyed it, liked what we did with the scenary felt like we fighting in a street. Pity we didn't get another couple of turns in although even if you tied that last objective I would have still had extra VP for first and the having a unit in your deployment zone. I think that setup favoured guard as we have som much long range fire power.
Hopefully i'll get better with the rules and that'll speed stuff up.
Yeah, good game, a lot of my units did nothing as they never reached you before the end of the game.
I like the hull points system, make killing vehicles more manageable and since DE vehicles were easy to kill anyway, it doesn't make too much difference to me.
I'm thinking what my next purchase should be, another venom would be useful, or maybe something new like reaver jetbikes or scourges. Or I could just get another razorwing flock so I don't have to use necrons scarabs as proxies!
I'm wondering if I could still use the talos and other foot slogging units but get rid of the webway portal, lots of things to think about....
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
I think the web way portal still has potential merit, you just need to be able to either deploy it in area terrain so you combat unit can take cover the turn they turn up or use it to deploy shooty units (is there a shooty version of the talos or a squad that can a high number of S6/7 weapons?). It also has the plus side that it's a terror weapon, you plop one down your opponent is going to have to worry about it (admittedly less than in 5th).
You can also use it defensivly, stick it on an objective and move everything forward then turn 2 or 3 a rubbish unit can claim it. Think about it in our game if you had chucked the portal next to the central objcective and advanced everything else you wouldn't have had units trying to hold while I shot at you and would have got in my face a lot quicker. It's suffered in this edition but I think it's just a matter of reworking it.
Yeah hull points arn't as bad as I thought they'd be, you notice the number of HP is equal to the number of basic weapons and 1 imobilised? It wasn't very often that I got repeatedly shaken in 5th stuff just tented to get wrecked.
Also Hammer and Anvil setup I think will fast become a guard favourite.
The flyer was good, I just got lucky my reserves turned up the perfect time, I have no doubt if it had lasted longer it would have torn a chunk out of my army.

Pick a faction and get the starter box and the faction book.
I've just got the Legion of Everblight faction book and a warlock for them the other day. Reading through i think That Epic Thagrosh (the model you've got) isn't all that bad to start with tbh. What people say about him is that he hits hard but if he doesn't kill he's rather squishy.
So tbh roll with eThagrosh, have a look on BattleCollege.com (its a wiki) and get the faction book. Automatically Appended Next Post: stormwell wrote:Gorillawizard wrote:Yeah i'll give ya a game Stormwell

This, the starter box is nearly always a great buy (you might also want to consider the 2 player battlebox if you can find someone who wants the circle stuff). pLylyth has some really nasty tricks, the shredders are insanely good for a mere two points, and the Carnivean is just plain scary. Using those beasts with pLylyth gives you a 13pt list and eThragosh a 16pt one (serioulsy only 3 warbeast points?). Either list is a decent enough size for starter games. Plus due to the way Warmahordes works by simply swapping the warlock/caster you usually end up with an army that plays completely differently. Even if everything else is the same, so having 2 warlocks right from the start can only be a good thing in my opinion.
38693
Post by: Gorillawizard
eThagrosh is only +3 warbeast points cos he's basically a beast himself with 20 wounds. Automatically Appended Next Post: i think alot of people take him with shredder spam, also the Harrier and Stinger are 2 points a piece. Hey Stormwell, i asked over on the PP forum about being able to have the same upkeep spell on every model in your battlegroup, i turn out that you can't, here's what they said:
"Being able to start with upkeeps active does not change the normal Upkeep rules, of 1 Upkeep per Model, and one version of the Upkeep active at a time."
oh and i found you can boost magic attack and damage rolls with fury or focus.
Surprising how much you learn from one game.

Kill team was indeeed entertaining and congrats to the winner it was well deserved.
Unfortunately I do have some bad news to post. Dark Heresy will not go ahead next week. Until further notice it is on hiatus. Over the past few months I have found myself losing interest in he game to the extent that it feels like a chore to organise everything. I think the last session I actually enjoyed was the Titan reveal. In addition to that I have got sick and tired of the bickering and inability of you lot to let me finish describing things properly. Finally we've also lost a player due to the bickering and that really was the final straw for me.
I may simply need a few months rest from running it but we'll only find that out over time. Sorry to disappoint you all but I simply don't want to act as a GM for the forseable future.

I also have spare hvy weapons if you need them. Specials wise I'm low on plasma and melta so can't help there. Pistols I've got loads of plasma.

Got my grubby mitts on something interesting today, the starter set for Warlord Game's Pike and Shotte rules. Not a bad deal all things considered (I only paid £48) particularly since the rulebook is a full colour hard back affair. Now my problem is figuring out whether I'm more interested in the Italian Wars, Tudor Wars, Thirty Years War, English Civil Wars or Wars of the Sun King. Currently I'm really torn between the TYW and ECW as both are very interesting conflicts and offer some really appealing modelling and painting opportunities. I'll probably have the rule book with me on monday if anyone want's a look.

Great game of Malifaux last night Gorillawizard, I was expecting to lose horribly until turn 4, in the end 6-1 was a little bit lopsided.

Post by: Gorillawizard
Yeah it was a good game, i played again tonight and only just lost 7-6 with Sonnia against Lilith. I only lost cos Lilith put a wound on my supply wagon so only got 2 vp's instead of 4.

Shredder, got my gang painted ready for Monday. I've done a little weapon swapping as well. Fallow and Taurca have swapped weapons. Made sense with their advances. You were right about the scum as well his full value is incorporated in your gang score.
Formosa, can you make sure you bring the scenery.
50575
Post by: Redacted_01
Well, Im picking up 2 lots of the Dark Vengance Chaos on Saturday, so that 40 cultists, enough for some gangers

Post by: Shredder
I just have my scummer Gene to paint and they're all done!
I went down to Hobbycraft today to get some new paintbrushes and picked a nice fine detail brush, I also picked up a pack of 4 brushes for £2.50 I wasn't expecting them to last long as they were cheap, but they did have some nice points on them. When I got home I realised that the reason they have nice points on them was because they had been GLUED in place!!! Once i had rinsed off the glue the were all splayed. Very unhappy with that.
I was looking for some bitz to use as terrain, but being on a budget and not really knowing what I was doing, I only came away with a can of metallic silver spray paint, I was thinking of doing some weathering to my pile of rubbish terrain I've thrown together, but we'll see how that turns out!
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Yeah I avoid cheap (or cheaply made looking at you GW) brushes like the plague, they maybe expensive but sable brushes really are the only way to go. I've been using one set of sable brushes for well over a year now and they're still going strong.
53846
Post by: Dribblie77
Where did you get them from nick!!
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Wayland Games, £2.79 a pop for the sizes you're most likely to need (1, 0 and 2/0).
53846
Post by: Dribblie77
Might have to get some of them fed up with buying GW ones every couple of weeks!!

Post by: sparx84
Are yes nick, slipped my mind. Sorry wesker already got a game.
38693
Post by: Gorillawizard
you could always try the Army Painter paintbrushes, they come in 2 types, hobby and Wargamer, they're on maelstrom games.
And yes Dribblie 35pts sound good.

sparx84 wrote:Are yes nick, slipped my mind. Sorry wesker already got a game.
Well done, of course there's always a chance of getting 2 games in if we're relatively quick, unlikely I'll admit but it is possible.

Buy it, then give it to me!
I'm going to get it at some point, but being on a limited budget, I don't know when, may have to wait for Christmas
I've decided I'm going to do a Death Guard army. Having gone from Orks (die easily) to Dark Eldar (die easily) I want to do Nurgle Marines (wont die easily!)
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
Shredder i'm in the same boat, would quite like it for the cultists but can't rationalize the cost to myself. I've got too many projects on the go and two armies I've not even used yet.
Chaos? As if dirty xeno's weren't bad enough.

Post by: Shredder
I'm all for playing the bad guys!
Although to my mind SM are just as evil as the rest. The fluff for the Imperium stands for everything I'm against - knowledge is heresy, blind faith is a virtue, routinely sterilizing planets if the indigenous population don't appear to be of value...nasty people I say (although that last point doesn't come up in my daily schedule very often, but I wouldn't agree with it if it did!).
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
Nah that's all xeno propaganda. The imperium is fluffy and nice.
Good news to all you fantasy players, I just picked up a load of new scenery.

im planning a total penal legion imperial guard army, with veterans with shotguns and riot shields (counts as grenadiers in carapace armour), the commander being a prison warden commissar. The army will consist of lots of penal legionaires supported by vet riot troops in chimeras, lots of priests to guide the convicts, psykers, and ogyrns. Vehicles mainly hellhounds for riot control and perhaps a gunship or 2, what do ya think guys!!!!

Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Well I've found 6th to be a lot more enjoyable than 5th was, ok I've only had one game but it feels a lot more narrative than it previously did. Plus the focus on objectives with the greater variety of missions should keep things fresh for longer.

Indeed nick found it very enjoyable, and the new rules seem to be getting easier to grasp.
