Just a quick warning to those planning large games, I will be taking a 6ishx4ish table for Dark Heresy and that will probably be all evening. Sorry for any inconvenience caused but the larger table size really is needed as the smaller ones are just too crowded.
Formosa do you still want me to bring a camera to take a few photos of the club etc?
@Wesker, I might be depends on the points level and how long it takes me to finish off my Space Marine army. After all I've only 1 dread, 5 scouts, 10 assault marines, 5 sternguard, 5 vanguard, 5 honour guard and enough characters for about 10 armies to go (added a converted Master of the Forge with Conversion Beamer this weekend ). So shall we get started in 2 or 3 years?
In all seriousness I should be able to throw together a 1000pt army fairly quicky provided I find the time to paint a few more bits and pieces, any larger and at my glacial rate of painting it'll be over before I'm happy to field my army (I don't want to field this army unpainted).
PS: My on going quest to get rid of all my GW hobby stuff bar a few select items is continuing (afterall why would I continue to use inferior/more expensive stuff when I no longer paint in the store), got a whole load of new brushes and a black army painter spay can on the way. Still got a lot of paints to finish off before I can replace them with Vallejo paints though.

Seems like i'm going that way too Nick, I'm replasing my GW paints with Vallejo slowly and getting me some Army painter brushes

Yeah, with the size of tables etc I was thinking about running something about 1000-1200 pts.
Just Gauaging interest at this point thought, If people want to play planetstrike, Scenery would need to be made

Planet Strike interesting.
Personally I don't think it work very well at small points but it you are looking for a 1000 point game with one objective then we probably have enough scenerey. The club just got a Bastion and we also have an aegis defence line plus a number of craters

Well, I was thinking of either 2 Objective Doubles at 1000 pts each, or 1 objective 1200 pt Single games.
Next week, i will poll who is interested and see what we can do

NOVEMBER
Page 1 is now updated with November Meeting Dates.
Just a quick reminder New/November Membership is now available.
Members Meeting
We are now in are fourth Month and after discussion with a couple of the Committee members we has decided to have our first members meeting next week.
The meeting represents your chance as members to:
- Bring up any issues you have yet to raise
- Discuss the direction you would like the club to go in
- Discuss December’s meetings (what to do about 26th)
- Talk about the upcoming club tournament (As suggested By Formosa)
Please can members on Dakka try and let any members without accounts know as its important we get as many members present as possible.
@ Wesker
Sounds ok, I like planet stike, however like cities of death it requires a certain level of preplanning to work properly. I don't really want a re-enactment of the GW shambles.

Post by: Lorna
I would be interested in a planetstraike game. I would need to borrow and proxy some chaos marines. But thats cool.
50575
Post by: Redacted_01
What was the GW Shambles?
Essentially, starting in January(if enough people are interested) you have mission rounds lasting for 2 or 4 weeks(depending on how many people want to play) where you run through each of the scenarios in order, with an "Order" and "Destruction" side.
Each game awards 3 points to the winner, 2 points each for a draw and 1 point to the loser.
There are certain bonuses for both the winners of each game and the losers of each game.
It culminates in a massive stand off where the accumulated bonuses for winning and losing each round previously are brought in to play.
Of course if anyone else has any ideas, feel free to contribute.

Captain John Wesker wrote:What was the GW Shambles?
GW on several occasions have tried to run planet strike campaigns or tournaments. Every time they're abandoned after the first week or two as everything simply turns into a massive rules arguement caused by few people actually owning or understanding the planet strike rules.
50575
Post by: Redacted_01
Ahh, Well, I own the rules and will settle all arguments then
Seriously though? Whats to argue about, i have played loads of games of planetstrike, and don't remember ever having rules issues.

Well it doesn't help when the manager start throwing his own house (or rather store) rules in to the games too.
38693
Post by: Gorillawizard
That was always the ending credits to all games played at GW Nick... lets throw this rule in, /fail.... yey loads of kids with loads of stuff that doesn't go together 'whats that, a space marine captain leading orks... yeah that works'!!

Post by: Lorna
@spanky, i would. But my nods are in a shamble. I can barely raise a 500 point force. Plus, i want to begin learning chaos as they is my new 40k army.
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
The main reason the GW planet strike games were a shambles wasn't the house rules so much as lack of preparation.
We turned up and got stuck in something like 4 vs 4 game, every one was meant to have written an attacker and defender list plus pick one stratgem but only two people knew the rules and a number of the rest hadn't even known plantstrike was happening (Due to poor store communication). So few if any people present actually had anything planned.
So you had a lot of strangers basically trying to fight a cohesive battle without knowing the rules, a GW manager trying to make things more complicated and to top it off a complete lack of scenery.
Sorry to rant but I've posted on this subject a few times. Despite itself I really like the idea of Planetstrike as it allows you to play a game with a strong narrative game. However due to the rules, plus cost of stratagems, its a game that requires a lot of planning a scenery none of which GW provided.
There are a couple of rules I'm not mad on, first being firestorm it just encourages the defender to start everything off board (or at least everything not in a bastion), second is that the attacker can claim the objective by touching it. it makes no sense why if i'm hauled up in a bastion with twenty guardsmen does one marine, whose leaning on the outside, count as controlling it.
People often argue the deep strike rule is unfair, but if you have enough scenery deepstriking can be really hazardous.

A FEW BRIEF MESSAGES FROM THE MANAGEMENT First off I would like to thank everone for the excellent turn out last monday, it was the busiest we have ever been and it fills me with all kinds of fuzzy feeling to know that our little club has so much support. Really thanks guys for making this club more than an idea. Now to business: 1) I will be updating page 1 with Decemebr and January dates as and when appliacble however just a brief reminder Monday 26th Dec meeting will be on the Thursday 29th instead. Also Monday 2nd January will be on Tuesday 3rd January. 2) A reminder to all members, as a club we try to make sure everyone gets a game however this is not always possible. Please remember that members are meant to have gaming priority so please, if you are arranging a game in advance, ensure that you approach all other members first before approaching a pay and player. If you you are unsure of who the other members are feel free to contact myself for clarification. Please note this is not a game booking system, I and the other committee members do not wish to introduce a booking system but will if we feel that full members are not getting games. Sorry pay and players but there has to be an advantage to being a member, however this is not to say you will not still be able to get a game. We still operate on a first come first served policy so it a table is not being used by 6 o'clock and all members present are already gaming, do not have an opponent or do not wish to game the table is yours. 3) In order to maximise gaming time and table space please can you try and bring preprepared army lists. In additon we do not mind you eating at the club but the tables primary purpose if for gaming so you may be asked to move if you are stiopping people gaming by using the table as a picnic space. 4) The club only functions through co-operation of it members, so if you are playing a small point/skirmish game please consider using a smaller table or giving up one of the 2x4 sections. The four 6x4 tables can be easily made into extra 4x4 ensuring more people get to play. If we continue to get turns out last monday there is potential for us increasing the gaming space by applying for an additional classroom at the school or moving into an alternative location, however there are a number of costs involved so please remain patient while we establish the best option for the club and apologies for all of you who did not get to play last week. i'd appreicate it if you could pass along the above points to anyone who does not have access to dakka, just in case i will be raising these issues in person at monday's meeting. Thanks Spank P.S. I have set up a email address for club use only, so please feel free to pass it on to potential members and existing members who may not have access to dakka spankhammer3rd@googlemail.com.

Post by: Gorillawizard
Well Tuesday 3rd Jan i probably won't be down due to me being at Aftermath.
I can't really think of any alternative location atm so if it comes to it, an extra classroom or even a bigger classroom with more tables would be the best bet.
An extra point i would like to add is to clear the table away that you were playing on and pleases don't just leave the scenery out.
on another note, Nick, if martin has his Infinity built ask him to bring it down on monday, we'll be able to go through some of the rules.

38693
Post by: Gorillawizard
Yeah there were some TFG's, specially the people that won with Double Demon's of chaos list, i watched one of there games and it really wasn't any fun, a pair of a-holes tbh!
But the guys we played over the weekend were awsome, some really nice chaps that we played in our second game, It was basically laugh a minute. Then we got drawn against them in our 4th and 5th games, so we had to change opponents. They became lucky charmes tbh cos every game we played them or they were next to us we won
If anyone does go to Warhammer World then the Miniatures Hall is well worth a look, there are some awsome painted miniatures up there.

Dwarfs!!!!!!!!
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Nope Dwarfs really aren't my style I do like to have a magic phase (what can I say my Dark Elves spoilt me magic wise) so instead I've gone for WoC army based around Marauders devoted to Nurgle:
Heroes (243pts):
Chaos Sorcerer: 105pts
Level 1, Lore of Nurgle, Mark of Nurgle
Exalted Hero: 138pts
Great weapon, Mark of Nurgle
Core (618pts):
Chaos Marauders: 194pts
24x Chaos Marauder, Marauder Chieftain, Musician, Standard Bearer, Mark of Nurgle, Light Armour, Shields
Chaos Marauders: 194pts
24x Chaos Marauder, Marauder Chieftain, Musician, Standard Bearer, Mark of Nurgle, Light Armour, Shields
Marauder Horsemen: 230pts
10x Marauder, Marauder Chieftain, Musician, Standard Bearer, Mark of Nurgle, Shields, Spears, Throwing axes
Special (135pts):
Trolls: 135pts
3x Troll
Not a great list but I really didn't want to run a single Wizard/General and a Chaos Lord/Wizard Lord at this level is overkill (and very poorly equiped) so two cheap and cheerful heroes was the way to go IMO even if they aren't that survivable ( MoN aside). The two Marauder blocks give me a decent battle line with the Horsemen filling a harrassment or flank charge role. Trolls are just there cos they're cool. I'll have to keep them close to the Exalted Hero though if they're to be of any use.
I suspect this army will perform better once I go to a higher points limit and actually give my characters some equipment.
Oh and get more Trolls of course.

Nice nurgle themed list nick, i can see its going to be hard to kill at higher points levels. Are you taking festus to fit in with the fluffy theme by any chance and have you brough the nurgle sorcer model yet because i have that model in new condition being unused that i would sell you for £5. also trolls are very fluffy for nurgle and i like them a lot.
Are we still up for that 2500 point game tomorrow gorilla, I shall have to be proxing daemonettes for bloodletters though up until christmas, me and my father cleared out hobbycrafts stock of bloodletters today, 25% off coupons really help!

Thanks for the offer but I have already bought everything in that list including the sorcerer.
As for Festus and other special characters, I'm in two minds about them. If they fit the theme of my army then yes I would consider using them (eg Festus, Throgg and Wulfik to a lesser extent) but at the same time I really don't like using special character in my army I'd much rather use regular characters and write background for them. Having siad that however Throgg or a counts as Throgg (with my own background etc) will almost certainly appear in the army at some point simply to keep the trolls (abnd other monsters) in line. Having the general babysit them all game really won't be a good thing in the long run and a Troll with high(ish) leadership is a useful thing indeed.
EDIT: BTW I will have my old Magic decks with me. Found them over the weekend.

Well I had a load of fun with Dark Heresey last night, really feel like i'm geting more into the swing of it, quite excited about the next one. Although I am horrified that we now have a dirty mutant/chaos creature in our group. Also just looked at the new Beastmen releases and I must say they do nothing for me. So I think it's official WHFB isn't for me. So if anyone in the group in intersted I'm going to sell my beastmen, let me know otherwise i'll open it up to the general public.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
I'm looking forward to it too, the campaign will really get going next time. You've just had the small little intro.
BTW my Nurgle army has arrived, might have it built by next week if anyone wants a 1000pt game.

Sorry matey, not me.
I've just downloaded the necromunda and Inquistor rules, thought I'd give a once over.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
I kinda figured that.
Shame you're giving up WHFB as I've been meaning to give you a game for some time. However if you're really not enjoying it I can certainly understand why you wouldn't want to continue.
Necromunda is pretty good can't really comment on Inquisitor beyend the fact that it's more of a RPG than a wargame right down to having a GM control everything.
TBH I'd recommend that you take a look at Infinity and Malifaux (atleast try each of them out I'm sure that those of us who play them would happily give you a quick demo) as they really are excellent skirmish games and don't have the narrative campaign issue that Necromunda has.
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
It's not that i'm really not enjoying it so much as it just doesn't grab me. I could keep playing but I feel it's stopping me from doing stuff I want to do. I sit down to paint and think i can't paint this until I paint my beastmen, but I never really bring myself to do it so end up not painting anything. I was sort of forced into fantasy rather than drawn to it so never had the same love as I have for my guard. I am tempted, will probably do infinity if I do, Pan Ocenana (spelling) probably. However I don't have a lot of spare time or cash at the moment so if I play a skirmish style game it will probably be kill team or something like necromunda. Like the sound of Imunda, but if i'm honest I don't really know anything about it, but it sound v fluffy and you know me I'm a narrative fluff whore.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Fair enough, if you want to give regular old school Necromunda a go I'd happily dig out my old gang at some point.

Main motivation for it is because I'd like to do infinity but not sure when i'll be able to afford it, however I hace a lot of guardsmen and bits to make a gang from. I hoping I won't even need to mod many have to see what the rules say.
and I assumed the necromunda rules would failrly easy to grasp given my GW game background., not saying infinity would be difficult.

At every opportunity, problem is getting through the security settings at work

43277

Barely anything unforeseen or my luck being a sod again (been that kind of a year) SHOULD make it down Monday for a bit of Warmachine.
Have battlegroups for both Cygnar and Khador.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
I'll bring my Menoth battlegroup along just in case, although I will be playing Warhammer Fantasy RPG so whether I'll have time for a gme is another matter.
EDIT: I wonder if we ought to try a small Warmachine/Hordes Journeyman League. Would be a damned good incentive for all of us who are getting into Warmachine/Hordes to get our armies up and running and up to 35pts. The rules can be found here. I think we would have to make some changes to the format as we can't really be sure of getting a game every week for 6 weeks (there are 6 phases to the JL) but having two weeks to play the required game(s) for each stage should be possible. Just an idea.
38693
Post by: Gorillawizard
Sounds good to me, only thing is that i don't have the Troll battlebox figs at all, well only the Axer but no Impalers or Madrak Ironhide. I can easily make up the same points though. But its a good idea if anyone else wants to get into warmahordes and get painting it to a tabletop standard, i know there are quite a few of us who don't actually have a fully painted army at all, in any system.

Yeah, I'd be up for that....can loan my Khador battlegroup out to anyone who needs it.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
That probably won't be needed afterall the aim is to encourage people to start playing the game with their own armies but hey if you're willing to loan it to someone while they get their own that would be cool.
Now is anyone else interested? I suspect Martin might be since he's going to be getting the Khador half of the 2 player battlebox from me soon. How about you Wesker?
One final thing if we do run this I reckon it'll have to be after new year simply so we have time to get everything organised.
43277
Post by: stormwell
They could borrow either to try 'em out, only got the Khador as a second force to run demo games with so I could apply to be a Press Ganger for PP.
New Year would be fine for me, should hopefully have a new job by then and so a bit more money on hand.

Have a good un all. To all DH players you'd better be there on Thursday this new campaign is really going to kick off.
BTW I've finally finished painting my Nurgle Lord/Exalted Hero, no pics yet but keep an eye out. He's suitably disgusting to look at. Only porblem is replicating that look over the whole army, the skin has 8 stages all of which are needed to get the end effect.

if i was doing it i bet i could do it in 4

It's Nurgle, i'd just drink a load of egg nog and throw up over it then purity seal it!

Small DH related announcement to make, the contents of Book of Judgement will now be available. It's mainly useful for our 2 Arbitrators but there is stuff that everyone can use. It also has some very useful stuff for me as GM if I wish to add minor side plots to the existing campaigns.

Post by: stormwell
The Book of Judgement has been used by the GM of the Rogue Trader game I'm in....against the party!

Ooh nice, whilst that does tempt me any of the weapons in that book would leave my crop of player a puddle of red goo, as would some of the antagonists they've suggested.

It was mainly the entire list of crimes and the interrogation bit, though even if it was only my character and the ship's 'captain'....even if she was on one wound after having a misadventure of her own.

Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Hmm bit disappointed by the turn out for DH last night, if people are going to be away please let me know in advance so I can figure out how I'm going to run things. As it was I had to run a small side campaign for Spanky and Martin which went fairly well but more time to prepare would have been nice.

How could you not enjoy that we blew up door with a Krak grenade, set fire to a crazy tech priest, stole an arvus lighter and shot the arm of a herectical bishop with a heavy stubber, apart from the inability to pass any kind of perception test and the fact the level was pretty much a corridor it was all win
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Nah that was all good but it was the lack of 2 players I didn't like. Particualrly since I had plans for a certain player who has a daemons hand attached to his arm.

Post by: Gorillawizard
Hey Art, you found the Thread then I'm just glad you can still game, all that money spent to just let it sit on a shelf isn't good. just need to get some more people playing blood Bowl now, maybe get a league going.
I'm not down tonight either, all the scenery was left with Formosa. So i would appreciate it if some others can help whoever has the scenery to bring it to the club.

Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Gorillawizard I would play Blood Bowl but I play too many systems already and then there's the multitude of projects in those systems. Let me think....
40k: Space Marines, Eldar, Guard, plus my Templars could do with some work at some point (it would help if I knew where they were though).
Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos
Malifaux: a Victorias crew, showgirls crew and now a Kirai crew too.
Infinity: Aleph
Flames of War: Mid War Aussies, Late War Brits, Late War Krauts and I want to do some Early War and Eastern Front stuff too.
Firestorm Armada: Sorylians and Directorate
Warmachine: Protectorate of Menoth
Hordes: Skorne
Hope you like the club Art, as you can see from my little ramble we're a diverse bunch game system wise.

Hey all,
We are running a Warbands Campaign up at Starwynn on a Thursday, anyone interested in joining in? Commitments are for 2 games a month, run every other Thursday.
This is being run for players who are less into tournament style games and lists, so bear that in mind.

I wouldn't mind starting a roleplay, since I haven't done one before.

There are currently two weeks Roleplay Corner isn't in use. First and third.
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
Yup, Lorna is correct.
There are currently two weeks were RPG's are not running and "RPG Corner" is available.
If you are refering to slots in the current running RPG's then you will need to talk to the GM's, being Nick (Dark Heresey) and Lorna (WHF).
I have recently purchased a copy of Hero quest, I do not think it will be here in time for this Monday but I am thinking about running a campaign (work our way through the book) once I familarise myself with the rules again.
50575
Post by: Redacted_01
I am well up for playing some heroquest
19941
Post by: SpankHammer III
It's just the basic set, but can't beat a little 1989 Retro action.
It's Lorna and Nicks fault really, I got to thinking about making up an RPG using my Guard and a board. Then started thinking if I had my old hero quest board still in the attic as it would save me designing a new one. Then I thought sod it i'm buying hero quest
40565
Post by: Shredder
I've got heroquest, but it's not in the best of condition, and several figures are missing. I do have some of the expansions for it though, although again they are not complete. I have somehow managed to end up with two boards though.

Post by: SpankHammer III
Never played any of the add ons, I think I still have some bit but i'm not sure. Wanted the whole game though. Plan is to get Space Crusade and Advance Heroquest at some point, but Space Crusade seems to fairly rare.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Ooh I'd definitely be up for a little Heroquest action, my first exposure to GW was via the little known video game adaptation of Advanced Heroquest.

who wants a game of some discription on Monday? rock paper scissors anyone? I got a warcraft TCG starter Wesker, so wouldn't mind an intro to it
32930

Rock Paper Scissors is tempting but I'm afraid I'll be busy teaching Formosa to play Malifaux.
50575
Post by: Redacted_01
Well, I will be bringing on monday -
40K
Warcraft decks for anyone that wants to learn to play
Gamma World RPG - To see if theres any interest for a game

I have just had hero quest turn up, wasn't expecting it until middle of next, week I am so freaking excited it's sad.
I'll bring it Monday, sorry but I may not be playing planet strike as I have waited over 10 years to play this again and need to get questing.
I'll bring my planetstrike book though.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Nice not sure if I'll have time to play this week though.

I've managed to build (mostly!) about 1000 points of Dark Eldar if anyone wants a smaller game. If not, then I'm definitely up for Heroquest!

I've brought my PS book, and will probably have my guard with me, but sounds like i've got several takers for Heroquest.
