managed a 40k game, 1,000 points of my Death Guard v Deathwatch, another silver medal but had the fun of watching a unit of Blightlords munch most of the enemy army
Cleaned up the resin SM biker upgrade, couple of bubbles though thankfully hidden by backpacks, sgt’s sword was a tad bent but hot water and a bottle of aftershave straightened it out a treat
Also picked up the NOS attack bike from the post office so will have fun tonight test fitting the metal side car
More work on these guys and assembled 2 shockjumps and 3 scrapjets ready for painting. Well scrapjets that was very litte'e painting as need to paint in subassemblies
painting a few more Plague Marines, nearly have all the ones I own painted now fo two squads of seven and a squad of six,
Rhinos to transport them ordered earlier, have one coming from Conquest, order others from Dark Sphere as its not that much more expensive but will arrive faster..
To think I wasn't that bothered about Death Guard when I first saw them these are fantastic models
Finishing up a batch of minis for my D&D campaign. Starting to make a dent in the pile of bones Miniatures that have been sitting in boxes for the last 5 years,
Today I'm breaking my rule of "one marine per chapter" for my Deathwatch army, and for good reason! I found the backpack banner that I painted for my very first miniature (homebrew marine chapter), so I am now working on a fancy Deathwatch Terminator to carry it.
I was going to paint Sableclaw Sammy this week but promised a coworker I’d paint his hero forge character. Got distracted and haven’t gotten Sammy past sub assembly, prime, and base. Maybe next week...
Bought the BoK book and pawed through. Mostly happy with it. Most things seem to have gotten better, couple things weakened, and a couple things irritatingly weren’t fixed. But mostly awesome.
Building a few Ravenwing, adding some Dark Angels bling to my Shadowspear models, and getting on with painting some Blood Ravens and Blackstone Fortress models.
Was supposed to play 30k tournament but stomach bug stopped. Instead about 10h on these. Yellow, blue, brown and black highlights left. Then just eyes and base edges. Also worked on 2 shockjumps and 3 scrapjets
Starting actual painting of my Shadowspear stuff. I will admit, I wasn't a fan of Primaris stuff until I actually started working on it myself. If I could afford it, I wouldn't mind building a full Primaris modern army in Raptors chapter colors.
The spoiler below is a lineup of classic CSM, a Dark Vengeance Chosen, a Shadowspear CSM and Shadowspear Interceptor. Also have a few things in the background (mostly CSM( since the pic was taken on my painting table
Deciding what head use for a sharpshooter guardsman.
1) A handsome guy without a helmet
2) A man with Karl Marx-style mighty beard
3) Stahlhelm with canvas cover
4) A man with a confused face and soft crusher cap
Went and bought Blackstone Fortress today, throwing my hobby resolution out the window. I also bought some hobby supplies like clippers and glue as I didn't bring any with me where I work.
Couple of games of SAGA, also picked up the Perry's "American Civil War Battle in a Box" box, which looks pretty nice - contents not being the expected "generic" models but the actual confederate models and unions ones they do, plus the more fancy ones.
Escalation league coming up so going to get necrons playable finally. First 5 immortals geting ready, 9 more and overlord following
Opinion request: 2 leftmost have white dots in chest piece. This was intended to be hot spot from glowing energy. Not convinced that works out though...Should I just have bright red there?
Also thinking if I should paint the middle stripe on heads with something else or keep the metallic blue there.
Converted a Genestealer Magus into an Imperial noble and primed loads of Imperial Knight armour plates and the like black. Next up.. priming all insides of those parts Leadbelcher.
Feels good to have something approaching a hobby vibe back again though.
tneva82 wrote: Finished these first. Next buggies and battlewagon to painting desk
Those Orks look really good.
Currently, I built Abbadon last night, and I am currently waiting for the primer to cure. Abbadon is the first model that gives me that, "Don't screw it up" feeling. I can't say I like that feeling.
Did three hours of painting on Twitch, finishing off a Jedi and nearly finishing an AT-DP Walker for Imperial Assault (amongst other bits) - will finish the walker off tonight, though.
Primed the insides of Imperial Knight armour plating, did some initial block painting and converted an Artel W noble to hold a cane instead of a sword.
bit more on some French for Waterloo and similar, only details tonight, the white on the collars, shoulder boards in red and the base drab colour for the muskets.
Also assembled a unit of spearmen levy for my Anglo Saxons for SAGA, with the aim of priming them tomorrow
Assembled doomsday ark, 3 tomb blades and 10 immortals to point I can start painting(lots of sub-assemblies and painting required). Also started working on first 5 bases to try out theme I want to run.
Started on skin for Cheshire and Talia in between working on some little bits on Damian Darhk and Liam Neeson Ra's. Just need to finish the black suits on them now, but will be working on Talia and Cheshire first
Built 75% of one road section and 25% of a second. First target is to build four sections to be able to cross the table. Then two cratered road sections to add variety, then two shorter road sections before attempting the three way T crossing.
Gonna prime 20 Slave to Darkness Marauders, prime 30 Slaves to Darkness Chaos Warriors, and possibly base-spray the Warriors black too. If I get to stop at the GW after work (questionable and unlikely).
Trying to work out how to arm 2x 5 man sternguards
Base models are 1998 vintage tactical squad (still on sprue), also have metal deathwatch stalker bolters but they are slightly smaller than the plastic ones so I want to put silencers on to make them a tad more beefy
Fiddled around with some Van Saar. Lovely models, but not a lot of flexibility. It'll take some pondering to turn these into proper squires for my Imperial Knight House.
Work contines with necrons. 10 immortals, 3 tomb blades and doomsday ark readv for last airbrush stage. 1 immortal finishea. Now with final colours decided next 8should be fast
been out and about so not too much this weekend, put the filler on the bases of some spearmen for SAGA and painted up the Riza ruins from Conquest, which are I have to say actually pretty nice when painted
So my buddy bought a Vindicator Laser Destroyer that was all janky, build bad and everything. I have been fixing it and turns out it's a recast. I don't like working with recasts wlcause who knows what is in it. But it's garbage but I got it to where the super glue dissolved and and know I'm rebuilding it.
Painting and converting 30 guardsmen for a tournament that starts on Saturday.
And expecting a shipment of another 30 guardsmen for commission painting.
Worked on Mortarion last night; base and two layers on the backpack fumes, based the scythe and Lantern, and did all non-detail work of the rocks he's on. He's coming along. Should have finished him ages ago, since he was a gift from my wife! He should have been the top of the queue!!
Played that game earlier today, which was a great refresher, but quite the one-sided slaughter. Dude at the store was cool about it though, answering my questions and giving great tips and advice, like using a Thundercoil harpoon on a Primaris captain, who managed to survive it through his Iron Halo.
I'm certainly motivated more than ever now to wrap up my Warden. Not that it'll see a game any time soon, but still great motivation.
Also got a Genestealer Cults Nexos and a pair of Ambots as gifts, not sure what I'll be doing with them, but I'm sure I'll think of someway to press them into service for my baronial court.
Assembled some easy-build plague marines and we ran the test game of the first 2 warhammer 40k conquest magazines.
The plague marine captain's plasma blew up first turn and I learnt Disgustingly Resilient apparently doesn't work for failed plasma rolls.
Still waiting for Dark Imperium to be delivered so I can get on with learning 8th edition.
Last couple of evenings I've been getting on with the Greenskins from Warhammer Quest (1995). Did the 6 Goblin archers last night and tonight almost finished the 6 Orc swordsmen, just their teeth and eyes to stick some paint on.
Nothing fancy, just basic colours and a couple of quick Citadel shade washes, i.e. a "good enough for the tabletop" paint job.
Only another 89 models (including doorways) and I might finish the set...
Built an Ambot, it's.. something? Not an amazing kit as some parts don't have great fits, but still some nice chunk to it. I'll probably use it as an alternative to the Bullgryn with shock maul and something shield for Halloween this year.
Also really pleased with how the Nexos conversion turned out so far, all that's left now is to remove the holographic display on the table and replace it with something less tactical, more maintenance looking:
amazingturtles wrote: I am painting many things orange, because it is the best color.
There's two sets of arms, legs and heads per sprue, so there is some diversity in posing it. The hands can also swap out their thumbs for a melta or grav gun.
Struggling to motivate myself in focusing on painting anything in particular. Finished another Deathwatch vet, now painting some Tesla Immortal Necrons
Worked a little more on the Ur-Ghuls, I think I've found a nice scheme for them now.
Thanks. I was debating on it(and asked on the paint forum here with little help) but pulled the tricker. Figured it adds some pop over all that metallic blue. Seems to be working. Bit of pain to get there especially as retouching isn't easiest things with this but blue but...
Now need to get that gun done. That's the biggest thing that is left from done.

Tyranid Horde wrote: Are Ambots worth the buy? I don't play Necromunda but what are they like for conversion potential?
I have seen some nice ork conversions as meganobz or warboss in mega armour. Not much cheaper than official models(if you need to buy bits more expnsive...) but if you like the look...
So a lot of things and very little. What I am doing is planning out my armies and stuff. So I have a Forum RP going even if it is a bit quiet with my 487th Cavalry, Wyrm Guard. Working on my terrain and table in my new house for gaming with my wife, and looking at conversions for biker rough riders again for my 487th Lunar Venatorii Panther Cavalry Regiment the Wyrm Garderme. In Dakka fiction I am building up their lore a piece at a time.
Leaved some trees and clumping foliage to desert terrain. For wooded desert.
Greenstuff-ed a ghillie suit on operative that will act as a Vidicare assassin. Because chameleonic stuff might be nice but a chameleonic ghillie suit is way awesome.
I've basecoated the second half of my custodes army, which is 25 strong at the moment and I'll get it finished this week. Started to paint strip a sisters of battle army I picked up at a fair price, the models are in good condition, with the exception of the vehicles which are quite awful conversions, and I've also got to finish off my hassassin force for infinity. Those are already base coated but they are a lot tricker to paint than heroic scale 40k stuff.
Rygnan wrote: Getting back into painting after not doing much the last fortnight, working on finishing my League of Assassins off
Got them down to just needing whites, black highlights and bases until the whole batch of 5 is done. Working wonders for my hobby mojo, have the next 2 batches ready to prime now too
In addition to those, I still have 10 more Chaos Terminators to build too. I feel the warp over taking me...It is a good pain. When it is all done, it will just about double my warband.
"Finishing" my 30k Iron Warriors army. Nearly 5k points when all's said and done, painted, based, decal'd and varnished. I started in the summer and just finished up now. It's the first army I've had in the 10~ish years that I've been playing 40k that I can say is complete.
Of course, I put "finished" in air quotes because I'm always adding to it. The last layer of varnish is just drying and I'm already building a siegebreaker consul to supplement my Warsmith's inability to unlock phosphex shells for my rapiers.
Working on tomb blade weapons. Green lines in parts are annoying to paint. First the green, then paint surroundings in black. Ugh. Lotsa small touch up needed. Didn't even do the particle casters yet as they aren't priority weapons anyway.
My Dark Imperium box arrived yesterday and Ive only just finished assembling the poxwalkers.
Made 1 of the sprue of 10 how instructed then swapped some heads and weapons around and removed some spikes on the duplicates.
Took alot longer than I thought it would. They are very thin and I almost broke a few spikes and nurgle ornaments off.
Working on a scratch-built Warhound for Adeptus Titanicus.
Made a pair of legs made from platicard sticks and rods which now leaves the waist and feet. The experience has been so rewarding that I'm now pondering the possibility of second, larger titan...
I'm looking out over my work space and wondering how it is that I have already painted more minis then I have all of last year, yet barely made a dent in my projects!
Apart from the toes the lower body frame of the Warhound is finished and assembled. Can now begin the basic frame of the upper body, although the two engine-exhausts( at the rear ) will be tricky to implement. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it...
Also played a game of Titanicus. Which was hilarious as my warhound got gang-banged by two banners of knights, causing a magazine detonation. I think its time to arm the inferno cannons...
Today I have been mostly
1: emptying my chaos black rattle can half way through the trench scenery I was painting and realising that everything nearby is closed so I can’t finish the job
And
2: Dismantling and repainting my painting-and-modelling-monthly-competition entry because it was looking rubbish.
Starting to paint the Heretic, the last model for my League of Assassins without at least some paint on it. I might get black highlights done on Neeson, Darhk and Merlyn, but it's doubtful
Finished all the necrons I could work with. 24 immortals, lord, DDA, 3 tomb blades with tesla or gauss weapons. Enough for 1st round of escalation league with spare.
Rest of necrons I own are assembled, primer and gunmetal layer done. Now need silver before transparent blue but I'm lacking silver so necron painting is officially halted until I can get more paint! ARGH!
12 warriors, overlord, cryptek, 6 wraiths, 10 lychguard, 4 scarab bases just waiting for one stinking paint. Ah well. At least bases for those done already to the point they are just waiting for model before final touches.
I'll be lucky if I get anything done. Work is going to be long and I have to be up incredibly early tomorrow for work again. But last night I managed to build two reaper chaincannon Flawless Host marines in Heresy Era armor (being how "pure" they consider themselves, they refuse to chaos-ify their armor). And by "build", I mean I cut the ends off heavy bolters and attached Dark Angel assault rifle ends to them. They actually legitimately look like chaincannons.
DIY Titanicus Warhound. Whittled and added the front toes with just the rear two to go. Had a stab at creating the upper body but simply does not fit the hound kit's carapace, and thus became a glorified cargo container.
Now thinking about using the Lucius or the 90s classic designs as very loose guides for a more unique looking warhound.
Finished another eight ACW confederates and started another eight, also varnished and finished off a new army for DBA (Nubian!) for its first game tomorrow
More... Tanks.... For Battletech...
Only another half a company of Marsdens and Scorpions and then I can paint them and then move on to the Scimitars....
Working on some Malifaux models now that I'm in between Batman crews, getting Leviticus table ready. Finished the Dust Storm and got most of the way through Ashes and Dust and the Ashen Core, plus nearly finished on the Abominations and putting some work on Hollow Waifs
Started on the last 14 (to make a regiment) ironwatch to dwarf ranger conversions.
Eyeing the 3D printed dwarf statues on my shelf though, primed and ready to paint, so I'm just a two miniature mostly dry brushing paint job away from having a greater earth elemental for Kings of War and an earth elemental for Vanguard.
I painted up this guy last night for the painting challenge. I couldn't get all of the dragons done in time so the Exarch had to do. Not bad for 4 hours of work post basecoats!
Will be working on the rest of the squad this week.
Finished painting Magnus last night (as seen in the showcase subforum), hopefully tonight will see some work on Mortarion. If it doesn't, then he'll get some more work tomorrow. He's about 70% finished already.
After getting back to work(having been on first holiday and then sickleave for a while) got silver for airbrush so got back on new batch of necrons. Going to work on those and hopefully nightbringer comes today as well.
Once these are done I have 1725 pts necrons painted. Can get up to 2004 after I get command barge and triarch stalker done painted but those have bits missing :-/
had a fun at "Seven days to the Rhine", WW3 as Team Yankee could only hope to be, a cracking game and would urge anyone whos tried TY to give it a go (its a £15 rulebook, and thats it).
ordered my copy when I got home.
also painted a few more bits for my Amercian Civil War
proving, if nothing else, I seriously need a decent photo mount area
Does drawing/sketching out my ideas for the artwork on a second AT2018 Warlord Titan's armour plates count? If yes: I'm currently wondering on how to paint something of an expression of doubt on a lion's face... (Might have to watch the good old Lion King some time soon )
Attended competive tournament getting 1-2 with orks. Alas defeats were 0-20(one I gave up on my 1st turn...He had blown up all mek guns, most lootas and I failed to do anything so basically all my hard hitters were gone) and win was 13-7.
Now assembling necron warriors I got with me from tournament.
Finished painting a 2nd squad of Dark Angel Infiltrators, need to varnish them and base them next. I have a Relic Contemptor Dreadnought that I’m painting today as well
Played another game in our Pulp Alley campaign yesterday. Also broke down after watching Wyloch's videos on GrimDark Future and picked up a Start Collecting Necrons box.
Today I clipped off the scarabs and glued them to their bases.
Only 12 warriors, 2 lords, 5 immortals and a annihilation barge left to build
Finished building the overlord from the SC Necrons box this afternoon. Crud he was a pain to build. I remember necron warriors being annoying too. Perhaps I have made an error
Bit more paint on some Knights and assembled and undercoated a Laser blaster cannon for a reaver.
Read some of Doom of Molech's fluff and...its really cool. From the single page summery they have enough for a rather epic movie. Godzilla meets Robotjox meets Lord of the Rings. Hollywood - get on it!
Built a new KoS yesterday (that boy is tall!). Started rebuilding my custom KoS to make him taller and added plastic bits from the leftovers; you basically get everything except a torso as extra bits. The sprue does look kinda bare though. It’s a very EASY build!! There are about 26 pieces of plastic to make the model.

Do you mean the Keeper of Secrets? If so, I'd love to see your final work.
Will do! He’s built, but that’s all. It’s definitely an excellent sculpt, and comes w/ 4 claws, a spear and a sword hand, two whip hands, one dagger hand and two shield hands (one shield). Three heads in total. So you can use leftover bits added onto a different model (like my double-torso’d Daemon Prince kitbash KoS) to make a second one.
I think this is gonna be a fun paintjob. And my wife claimed the Shallaxi Helbrone build for herself.
Reading some of Cadian Blood last night, and it's given me inspiration to get some of my poxwalker and cultist part painted/unpainted horde worked on. 7 Poxwalkers and 1 cultist completed so far, time to take the dog for a walk, then back at it. Would love to complete 20 models today.
Work continues on necrons. Current painting desk has doom scythe, 10 lychguard, 24 warriors, cryptek and overlord. Also did bases for 4 more bases of scarab swarms so those too will join the painting queue. That's just metal parts though.
Waiting for nightbringer to arrive. Starting to worry I got scammed there.
Put snow on bases of 24 warriors, 10 lychguard, 8 scarab swarms, overlord, cryptek and doom scythe. Also painted metal parts for 12 warriors barring last highligh' since forgot the paint home.
Went to my local GW this morning for some paint and new books. Had a chat with the manager, mainly about Sisters of Battle, he said the new Pentitent Engine looks epic, and that the release goal seems to be September/October.
Then I came home and carried on working on some Deathwatch. 3 more models completed. will see if I have the motivation to continue doing any more.
Scratch built warhound stuff. Upper body frame is there, ready for detail
With a little more work its ready to mount on the legs and add magnets for attaching weapons. Getting much closer to the point where I shall do a photo...
assembled some 28mm wood panel fencing from 4Ground, then stuck them to plastic sheet as otherwise they fall over, very nice fences, look really goo, but typically laid flat face down without a small modification.
also started painting a group of Wracks I think they are called, Dark Eldar whatsits for a guy at the club in return for a bunch of poxwalkers and characters for my Death Guard.
pretty nice kits, they look horrible but go together well and loads of variations in the box so you would have to make a heck of a lot before you ended up with duplicates.
Today saw the brown leather, black armour and skin tones go on
Worked on these today. Got lychguard shields to point where I felt could glue them to bodies. Death scythe main gun got some work done. Also put magnets on 3 tomb blade bodies and assembled weapons(magnets in today) so they can be played with at least. And removed whip coils from 2 wraith.
Next(apart from magnets) put some leadbelcher to 6 wraiths. I want to have at least some colour for all models on saturday when I play first 2k game with necrons. It's held on bit bigger gaming event with possibly people who don't know about 40k so want it to be bit presentable force. At least main colour is there, some metal work and bases done. Good enough.
Got the two stormtrooper squads and Vader primed from the legion starter. Will get the speeder bikers built up next and then crack on with some painting.
Painting the camo cloaks on my Eliminators, using some 2mm masking tape from Tamiya to tape off straight edges on the cloaks to make a form of digital camo
Finished converting the two Plasma gunners and the Junior Officer models for this month's painting competition. Now I need to prime them and have them join the other two for the painting bench.
After the hell that was applying decals to my Intercessor squad I am now basing them. I really enjoy the basing process because it's here when the model really comes to life.
Put in some more work on my painting challenge entry. Feeling my work looks good on some parts of the model and worse on others. Hope it turns out well.
Corrected some painting mistakes on my intercessors. They have buttons on their vambraces that I just painted in the same color as their armor and as I filled in these details I noticed some sloppy mistakes on both squads. That was fun to fix. Now that is done I am working on an Ironclad Dreadnought.
Finished the last model in my first batch of Deathwatch veterans and now it's time to base them. All 31 have Astrogranite on their bases, need to give them a while to dry, so I'll probably start on batch two of Deathwatch.
Been out of wargaming and miniature making/painting for about three years, but after getting some motivation to make my own ruleset for a 40k-type game (crap rules being one of the reasons I stopped wargaming) I decided to put together a Get Started! for Imperial Guard:
Still needs the treads doing, but I'm waiting on a pantbrush for it.
Freeflow44 wrote: Painting the camo cloaks on my Eliminators, using some 2mm masking tape from Tamiya to tape off straight edges on the cloaks to make a form of digital camo
I did the exact same thing! Tamiya makes great products for modeling, I really like their plastic cement
Just put together the revell snaptite A-wing . Scales nicely with legion and took ten mins to build.
As it comes with lights and sounds it’s currently being flown on an alliance mission around the living room by my 7 year old. Damn kids always play with my stuff lol.
Was going to make some riflemen to balance out my specialist heavy force.
Ended up putting together some IG sappers, (will count as demolition charge weapons specialists) includes 3x in full respirators (assault engineers)(waiting for more parts for the rest of their section, 3x riflemen) and 2x sappers using mine detectors(the third is the Anvil Industry EOD in bomb suit). Their rifle support is at least at the same stage of completion.
Finally got that Galladoria Games' Grumpkin painted. It's the generic fantasy half-ogre version of that man shaking his fist in the sky. Except he's using a club. And your head.
More AT work. Added more detail to the DIY warhound and assembling a Reaver Gatling blaster. It was a fun evening when the Warhound fell apart( God might forgive me, but I sure as hell don't! ) and the Blaster wasn't cut right for magnetizing. Somehow the Reaver is a bastard to work with...
Finished up 24 necron warriors, got 6 wraiths nearly done(mind you they were far ahead to begin with). Today no painting but instead game of 1550 pts. Necrons vs blood angels with blood angel player practicing tournament(tournament with 1550 pts...imagine that!)
