Started basing the 27 uruk's I'm painting and started work on next batch of models, 8 warriors of minas tirith, 6 knights of minas tirith and 3 uruk hai berseserkers that just need metals and basing to be done. And mumak progresses slow but steady.
Finally pulled my finger out and undercoated the speeder bikes and scouts from legion. So that’s the imperial side all based and undercoated ready for painting.
Starting on my LexCorp crew for Batman in between some other scattered things. My first time with Contrast (but using them over metal), aiming to get them finished before Friday as I have a tournament on the weekend
Finally working on some of my Shadowspear Primaris marines. They'll be joining my Crimson Fists Primaris army. Enjoying doing power armour again after a short break from it.
Finishing off the henchmen in my LexCorp crew, and working my way through Lex himself alongside some Bane models. Not far to go, ideally I can get started on Lex in his undersuit too but as long as the Warsuit is done I have what I need
More work on Phobos armour today, finished the 4 Infiltrators I started yesterday, now working on some Primaris Reivers. I'm not sure if I have enough Phobos Primaris marines to make another company yet, but I'm tempted to potentially do another Crimson Fists marine company.
Something different from usual. Made myself own tournament pairing system. Nothing fancy and I'm sure there are better ones out there but I'm programmer so suits me nicely and was interesting project.
Planning to run tournament for LOTR probably in november(next month bit too early and next open days at november).
A very busy day's holiday; inked a game board, assembled a box of Blue/Brimestone horrors( NEVER AGAIN! ) and dug into "Getting started with Age of Sigmar". Re-thought a household for Adeptus Titanicus.

A fellow programmer? Why, thats absolutely imperial! We shall have to swap stories some day.

Assembling a combat squad today. I did a kitbash for the Sergeant which I am quite happy with. Mixed parts from the Intercessor and hellblaster sprue with the 'hand-on-pommel' power sword arm from the Sternguard kit that I've had for four years but could never find a model I liked it it on.
Started painting my legion scout trooper bikes. Haven’t actually been able to do any painting for a while so am a bit rusty. But they are some damn fun minis to paint.
Done a bit more to the speeder bike scouts for Legion. Both troopers have been sealed with a gloss coat and washed.
Speeder bikes have had their base coats of olive drab and all the highlights done. Just need details and weathering. Then back to the scouts to whiten up Their armour.
As a side note used some make up sponges for the highlights and they came out fantastic. Won’t be using a bristle brushes again that’s for sure.
More assembling of LOTR models that I got yesterday. Morgul knights, wood elves, isengard&moranon orc commands done. Still not done all yet.
Also finished basing for minas tirith models and did some planning for the LOTR tournament that got initial date of 16.11. Will try to get tournament rule pack 1st version done this weekend.
Getting tabled by an Imperial Fists castle in 3 turns... shouldn't have deployed my 2 Invictors (proxied with Wulfen Dreads) within double-tap range of my opponents' Aggressors.
Finished up(minus shields of knights) some more Minas Tirith and Lothlorien models and started working for more reinforcements for Minas Tirith. I have broken 500+ pts line for Minas Tirith, Lothlorien and Isengard(750 pts) along with Rohan that I already had nice amount of painted stuff.
Also did group order to Forge world. I didn't want to buy now enough for free shipping but didn't want to pay shipping either so what to do? Ask if any other people want group order! Found enough interested people that we got free express shipping.
edit: After taking pictures noticed eyes were missing black dots which I fixed after that.
Putting the base coats on some more Primaris Crimson Fists. Suppressors, Infiltrators and Hellblasters all on the painting desk at the moment. Almost finished my current pot of Kantor Blue, but have a couple of spares ready.
Painting these guys, stripping paint from moria gobbos for next month tale of 8 gamers and finished tournament rules for lotr tournament(first i will be running). Less than 6h from publication 10/12 signups(edit: Now filled up!). Nice. Some might not be able to come in the end(november is far ahead) but so far looking good.
Just finished the first ever contrast on a vehicle, over wraith bone it has impressive coverage, now I need a way to tidy it up as I went a bit heavy on the top deck of the razorback
Rybrook wrote: Just finished the first ever contrast on a vehicle, over wraith bone it has impressive coverage, now I need a way to tidy it up as I went a bit heavy on the top deck of the razorback
Do you have photos? Currently thinking of doing vehicles a different colour to marines just so dont have to use contrast on them. What colour contrast did you use?
Rebirthed the Infernal Tetrad of Daemon Princes!! I posted my list in the 40k list section. Time to finish my Tzeentch Prince conversion! I’ve gotta green stuff the wings to the torso tonight; and then he’s ready for painting.
Got most of the way finished on my Bane Batbox now so my Bane crew is nearly done, and I've worked on some more Malifaux models to finish off my Viktorias thematic crew
Painting more Primaris Crimson Fists. 3 marines finished today, which takes my company to 91 battle line marines. 9 more on the table based and washed, 7 of them edge highlighted. The end of painting this company's marines is in sight. Still need to work out how many vehicles I need
I tend to post “what I did the night before”. Green stuffed the wing connections for my custom Tzeentch Daemon Prince, binned my custom Nurgle Prince (it was 5th edition and not well sculpted/made out of spare parts and I have a new plastic prince that was available to replace it), and started the new one. Today I’ll probably dry brush some models at most!
Built Hannah for my Freikorps crew (and it was an absolute nightmare!) and cleaning up a 3d printed Void Stalker battleship to start on an Eldar BFG fleet
Finished my Nurgle Prince for my 40k non-soup Daemon army. About 4 hrs were put into it, and that’s WITH contrast paints being used. More than happy putting it on the table.
Test paint scheme done on random free Primaris for Silver Templar’s, quite happy with it and looks like my Conquest Marines will be Smurf relatives bleh I feel dirty.
More terrain building. And received packet from forge world that has group order. Sorted out checking all is there. Hobbit hole set that I got is surprisingly short in width and biiiit inconvenient height. Going to be fairly tall hobbit hole but guess top of hill can be just...well hill inside
Contacted the finnish tax office. Damn that was hard. Needed to know how to report prizes of LOTR tournament and damn the tax office didn't make it easy. Online chat doesn't answer this question(they direct to phone line). Can't send email, can't book time for face to face(that's currently limited to groups of 6+ foreign berry pickers...) and phone lines jammed.
After several days and multiple attempts FINALLY managed to call when there wasn't 10+ persons on line so after 15 minutes of listening the background music(urgh) got through and got help.
They are making their best to encourage not notifying them what law asks to notify eh? Well got the information so I can now follow the law avoiding any nasty even remote chance of getting hit by police(finland seems to take dimmer view on tax evasion than assaults) without having to trim down on prizes. Could have limited prizes to 20e or less but for first tournament want to go bit more interesting even paying part of prizes out of my own pocket(rather than cover fully with entry tickets)
The life of a rookie tournament organizer! Good thing I started preparations well ahead.
timetowaste85 wrote: Give box prizes, not cash!! Damn, that sounds like a right PITA!!
I give. Specifically FWLOTR models. Tax office wants to know that TOO. (there's tick "not given in cash")
Miniature gamers aren't really the main target for this law(it won't have notable impact on your taxation anyway...) but got hit as a side effect. Ah well. Have figured it out now so it's just thankfully form online that I fill.
Received and will paint this incredibly underwhelming Mantic Terrain Crate set...I was hoping they'd stepped up their quality/size since the Dungeon Saga disappointment. Apparently not.
Painted Harad Warriors(mumakil is so slow progress that figured let's paint something quick in the meanwhile...), some work on terrain and succumbed and bought 2nd hand dwarves as local player was giving good deal just as I had been thinking them as next force to go with moria goblins...grumble grumble. Insidious timing! Well €€€ wise good deal.
Today I hope to be painting up an old lead Castraferrum Dreadnought, plus stripping and disassembling an old Rogue Trader era Land Speeder. Both are recent ebay finds, and units I've been wanting to add to my collection for a long time.
A lot more work today. I finished Grifter for Batman and 3 Ronin for Malifaux, while doing more work on Arathorn, Hobbit Legolas and Gaslight Batman. Aiming to get those mostly finished tomorrow along with some more Malifaux
I obtained some nolzur's marvelous minis and some pathfinder deep cuts. Bit of segue out of miniatures war gaming but you can bet I'll be raiding some of my army bitz boxen for parts.
Working on bunch of terrain. Also finished 5 ringwraiths plus foot betrayer. Used black 3.0 paint for hoods and sleeves which makes them really pop in blackness. Rather thick paint so not suitable for anything with details that needs to remain but hood interiors it works nicely.
Also started basing 14 moria goblins and their king. These plus dweller in dark is going to be my 1st batch in this month. Easy peasy
Ended a long week + weekend of building my movement trays, magnetized various units to go with said movement trays, built a bunch of Artel W not-Eldar units, and pimped-out 15-or-so old Rubric Marines to have them battle-ready. Pretty happy with all that done!
Undercoating a bunch of Primaris Marines, and painting others that were already undercoated. Hoping to get to 200 battle line Crimson Fists marines before Christmas (Currently at 100). Next year will be for getting a large Sisters of Battle army built and painted.
Finished the scenarios for the first few sessions of an after school program.
1st edition Pathfinder, with the PCs as cops.
One group is in a Kick Open The Door situation, unaware that the enemy is prepared for them, and the door is rigged to blow. The folks on the other side are immune to the fire damage from the trap.
The other group is starting at a memorial service for officers killed in the season close last year. Nice funeral you got here, be a shame if somethin' was to... happen to it.
Both groups are dealing with the same bad guys, just different opening scenarios.
The Auld Grump - last year's season ended with the precinct barracks being attacked by a large undead thing in full armor.
Still painting on the Doom Lord team from Blood Bowl. Trying to paint to a higher quality since there's only 12 guys on a team so it's taking me (comparatively) forever.
I made a start to my Exodite Eldar for Armies on Parade. Starting with counts-as Shining Spears as Dragon Knight Lancers. Very early WIP but happy so far. More work on these tonight:
Yesterday and today: finished 15 moria goblins. Got 12 harad warriors ready for basing(need material). Painted a bit of terrain. Primed bunch of stuff including Balrog that I assembled. Started work on 24 mordor orcs and assembled isengard troll.
Found the cutting of a paper template with a sharp craft knife surprisingly difficult because of the narrow wings of the Aquila. Due to that I think that I will paint rather than spray, especially with all the wing detail that makes the surface uneven.
Finished 12 harad warriors and am doing plenty of progress in terrain. Getting first finished pieces tomorrow I expect after couple weeks(lots of waiting for materials in that though).
Worked on the flying base (wrapping electrical tape around the clear portion) of my Valkyrie and did some dry brushes and some base coating on my Immolator.
Played GrimDarkFuture (Battle Brothers (mine) versus my friend's Havoc Brothers).
Also attended a game store 'yard sale' and bought a couple one dollar loose minis from their dig-through bin. A larger reaper scorpion and a squat soldier.
Based a Wizkids Treefolk as a junior treeman for my blood bowl halflings. All I had to do was trim his molded base and paint his team number on the back with some brown paint. I love prepaints
Finished the Valkyrie base, matt varnish sealing done as well...now I just have to remove all the electrical tape to see if I avoided fogging up the clear plastic stand.
Spent about 2 hours sorting my Warhammer stuff (sans miniatures, thats my plan for tomorrow evening!). That means, sorting my remaining sprues so that similar stuff is together, grouping boxes with marine stuff together while storing IG stuff somewhere else and so on. Gotta say, having all that stored nicely is quite satisfying.
Tomorrow I am going to sort out my miniatures. Right now, I have all my built models sitting on two cupboard shelves. And I mean all my models. Wannabe-Salamanders next to pretend-Deathwatch beside nameless guard stuff (pretty much everything unpainted. By packing old, badly built models and all the tiny old ETB marines from various starter sets and only leaving models I like I hope that I actually will finally find the motivation to start painting all my gray pile of shame.
TL;DR: Basically adminstrative stuff and tidying up.
Man I haven't gone near a paint brush in a month. Although the good news is the weather is getting cooler where I live so I can start base coating. Most likely I will finish up some character models for my PCS in my most recent D&D campaign.
Reorganised my model storage so I now have LotR, Blood Bowl, Warcry and Kill Team all in one case and started reading through Malifaux 3rd edition faction books
Finally getting around to painting my Genestealer Cult kill team. I have had the original starter box for almost a year before finally getting them to tabletop standard. Funny thing I actually enjoyed painting them up and my FLGS was having an anniversary sale so I picked up some Acolytes and more Neophytes.
Spoiler:
I don't quite have 100 points painted where I like to field them unless I run more than one genestealer. The cult is based on my Space Hulk genestealer colors, but for ease of play I will probably use my Jorgmandgandr ones. I also had a tough go on deciding exactly which cult subfaction they fit in best for. I finally decided on Rust Claw since the colors are pretty close, and I want them to be hickish ala Deliverance, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hills Have Eyes or Resident Evil 7.
I can't say I like the Kill Team subfaction trait as I feels like it largely won't do anything except ruin Primaris team's day (which my group does have a lot of). I would much rather have not wounded on a 1 or 2 like the White Dwarf Blood Ravens chapter tactic. It could be too good with T3 units though.
Hung out with a couple buddies who played some X-Wing. Played a 1v1 game of Warcry and then played a 3 player game of Warcry. Fairly eventful hobby day.
Just finished building a Tiger 1 platoon for Tanks. It's a 15mm scale tank on tank game with really simple rules ideal for beginners and people like me who have bad information retention.
I now have 5 American Sherman's (1 76, 3 75's & an early M4), 3 British Cromwell's, a British Comet & 3 German Tiger 1's
I'm planning to get Italians next. That will be 5 M14/41's and 3 Semovente's. Italian tanks are really cheap, points wise, so that will be very different from the other platoons I have.
Lots of stuff came in over the last couple days and it's been my first 2 days of uni break (which just so happened to be off work), so I've been busy. Built my Chimera for Warcry, finished my Gorilla Grodd crew for Batman and painted start to finish about 1300 points of BFG Eldar Corsairs. Got the last 2 ships for my Eldar today, so working on cleaning them up (the whole fleet is 3d printed by a friend) and painting some things for Malifaux.
Hoping to have a painting evening, who knows what I'll be painting but I'd like to finish at least a couple of half done minis. Also planning on basing my Eldar Guardians, they're in need of basing after 8 years...
My Doomsday Ark kitbashes! The majority of my Necron vehicles and units have been converted to maintain a cohesive design aesthetic. You can check out my P&M Blog (link in sig or click this) to see more of the army.
Put coat of PVA/water over bunch of terrain to seal flock etc. Never done before so not sure was coat proper which is why only couple pieces.
Then washed 2 gatling blasters, quake cannon and warp missile pieces for adeptus titanicus and have now been assembling warlord weapon sprue 2(plasma etc). Next up reaver 2 weapon sprue.
Working on Bladegheist Revenants (not so thrilling) and getting a game in with my Lamenters army. I need at least one to get a handle on the army before I play in the event next weekend.
Painting 3 batches of Malifaux models- Torakage for my Misaki crew, Crooked Men and Drowned both for my Jack Daw crew. Almost have the Torakage finished at this stage
Well the wife’s having a make up and wine night around one of her mates houses tonight so the plan is to get the last bits of my imperial knight ready for undercoating tomorrow.
Then might start the primaris war suit I’ve just picked up or just have a play around with some primaris infantry for my Black Templar’s. Either way a cold beer will be involved.
I have to:
Write up something for tomorrow evenings D&D game & haven't yet touched pen to paper.
Paint up a table mini as a pool table.
And I should continue painting/detailing my Path to Glory Fyreslayers. At least get the new Doom Seeker finished of the same lv as the rest of the units so the other players don't spot him immediately....
More work on terrain and titans. Clean up my home a bit so that I have room to work for more terrain and not have old mess get stuck to models during gluing process
Assembling my two brigs for Black Seas, compliments of this month's issue for Wargames Illustrated. Very nice looking models (1/700 scale sailing ships)
Put up coat of paint/water/pva to 9 terrain pieces out of 15 I have on workbench. Put up some transfers to knights and titan weapons and primed bunch of knight missile pods. And worked on some necron math for quantum shields where I'm getting odd results. Beh.
Got some cookie tins from a thrift store.
A small one for my dwarf warband for Vanguard/heroes for Kings of War, now in a box that fits in my army box. Plus a bigger one for Gaslands cars and templates.
Primed them both black and put the same symbol as the shields on the vanguard one. Not sure what should go on the Gaslands box.
Kit bashed a Primaris LT from a Primaris Ancient, and kit bashed a Reiver Ancient from an ETB Reiver. No idea if we’ll ever get a Phobos Ancient, but I can’t have a Tacticus Ancient with my Phobos company.
Gonna finish basing some Hellblasters that I started almost a year ago and only recently got back to working on them. Gonna be so happy to get them off my work bench Then I'm testing some new green paints for a paint scheme.
Played bloody gam of Isengard vs Rohan vs newish player. Theoden refused to come for a while and it looked like crossbows might make mess of his line but when Theoden came finally it was straight to their rear. Well crossbows did shoot total of 1 rider of rohan, 2 rider of rohan horse and 3 royal guard horses and even performed admirably in hand to hand before dying.
Main fight he gave charge when I got to move first after his priority with heroic move that I won on roll off(later I gave pointers on how to avoid. Especially with Theoden amidsts crossbows there was absolutely ZERO tactical reasons to let me do this. Simple newbie mistake that's easy to make) and yet another priority roll won resulting in main Rohan force(Eomer, Erkenbrand and their riders) be swamped in uruks. I had started game with total of 37 models and with banner was owning close combat that was fough ton MY terms.
Fun little game and afterwards gave him whole bunch of pointers to avoid worst mistakes. His game plan reminded a lot of my own initial games with rohan
Decided to work on painting some of my Slaanesh CSM today. Finished my first couple of models and am happy with the paint scheme. Currently working on a Greater Possessed.
Small Cryx force for a client who has a tournament next weekend. I have the models unbuilt and I need to organize a painting checklist for what exactly I need to do with them. 8 hours or so work.
Finish painting eyes and lenses on a 30k marine army for a client that doesnt really have a rush on things. This is the easy mode task. 4~ hours or so work
Have gotten a fair bit done over the last couple of days. Built the Gloomspite Underworlds warband for use in Warcry, built my Teen Titans for Batman and put my last 2 ships for BFG on bases. Now working my way through painting Malifaux models in preparation for a tournament on the weekend.
Looking for deals so I can finish off my blood angels showcase,
Last things to get are 3 dedicated transports and a heavy,
Thinking of 2 rhinos for tac squads, a pod for the death company and a whirlwind.
Painting 6 immortals, their bases, 2 bases for doom scythes, packing titans for weekend's AT tournament. Updated necron model list to include all that I have bought/ordered. Once I get all assembled and painted almost 5300 pts worth of necrons! Still plenty of units I have none so room to grow.
Dakkajets from yesterday, Fighta-Bommas from today. Lovely models. Magnetized the turrets so they turn - and because we all know FW will put out upgrade kits.
Almost put together 5 Deathmarks, then one of the sets of legs went flying and after 1/2 hour of searching I could not find it. So 4 Deathmarks, and 2 Lychguard.
Why 2? Because they have four piece torso and I don't have the patience for that tiny wedge bit in the middle.
Also we're playing Black Crusade, not 40K, so I don't need full squads of them.
Hopefully later today il be able to do some more work on my primaris snipers. Although have a fun day of building a shed in the rain... , once that’s done hopefully it’s hobby time.
Built some Aberrants last night, primed them today and while I wait for them to cure also built some Acolytes. I originally intended to build Hybrid Metamorphs, but they both don't entirely fit the theme I am going for if you consider them a sign the hive fleet is getting close. Additionally, I simply couldn't figure how I wanted to arm (pun intended) them to be worthwhile in Kill Team and potentially worth fielding in a small 40k games. As I am seriously thinking about very slowly building a GSC army. I already have a collection of rock weapons from my first set. So I decided to build this group to field legal 40k units while also giving me options other than neophytes for chaff in Kill Team.
Did the final armour highlight on my Ultramarines force. Definitely going to need much more practice with the airbrush, but never mind, it's a learning curve.
Began preparations for a tournament of GobOlympic Games I intend to run with my son. Four teams will compete in a series of silly goblin games and I intend to document the lot and post a nice little report. Even built a little 1st 2nd 3rd winners podium!
More work on Primaris Crimson Fists. I think I'm going to take a break from them for a while after today, although I'm not sure which other stalled project I should continue with.
Stripped and rebased four tree bases, drybrushed the trees. Also cut/plucked/sprayed and finish two more small 2" foam hills. I'm trying to clean up all of the random stuff I've had laying around for 6-12 months.
Going to start assembling the necron pylon today. Also think I'll start assembling on some necron warriors(got whopping 3 packets to pick up. Pretty sure one of them is start collecting box. Maybe also the necron apoc box is one of the 3...).
If I have time to paint dozen or so moria gobbos, deorwine and 2 uruk's are also in line.
