Wow, great job on this thread. I have a real soft spot for the old RTera figgies. I think there is a charm to them that is lost in now a days models. Plus metal is clearly superior to plastic, and lead is superior to pweter-white metal.

Post by: monkeytroll
A chainsword to make a chain-halberd? Ball and chain to make a flail? Big spike to make a big spike? If you could get hold of 3 or 4 of the old rt marine chain-bayonets you could make a very cool chain-mace. Plastic tubing to make a hammer. Or better yet s big ol' square hammer. That would be pretty cool.
I suppose you could find an axe head and do an axe, that might be a bit too radical though.

29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
tis for graven, but what is this mjod? Incidentally are you right or left handed?
34329
Post by: dantay_xv
Oh gosh darn, you need to read HH series of "prospero burns". Mjod is a SW drink made of alcohol and other nameless stuff. I think they have a big goblet or deep plate ( I think like a quaich), and they each take a drink from it.
I can use either hand for most things, but will use my right hand for writing and painting, so I will go with right handed.
Btw propspero burns is a very good book and not all about just raping and pilllaging of prospero, delves quite a bit into the psyche of the SW's

Post by: Miss Dee
Just stuck in the 1st 130 pages, just dont make sense to me
34329
Post by: dantay_xv
Its building up though, its setting up Hawser as the story teller. Prospero Burns is a slow burner, if you wanted constant actio and lots of howling then you may be disappointed. The first half is more about the Wolves themselves, without spoiling it for you, there isnt that much about the burning of prospero, which is towards the end.
It also shows the views of the other Legions towards them and how they view themselves
It also shows how the traitor legions think it is easy to con the Wolves (being barbarians and all), but how really they are the hunters. However at the end its a struggle to see who was manipulating who

Oh, and congratulations Weety! Your blog is the featured Dakka News bit today. I noticed it on the Dakka home page while I was clicking around.
This is what is/was there in the center of the page:
News
Community Spotlight: A Rogue Trader Blog. Now with extra Squats!
Rogue Trader era miniatures can often be expensive and hard to come by. However, that hasn't phased weetyskemian44. Since this hobbyist was a wee tyke, she has wanted to paint all the models she could lay her hands on. And oh how she has! Her massive blog has hundreds of rogue trader Miniatures in it. Squats, Gangers, beakie Space Marines (and even Androids), are all here. She admits to being obsessed with old models and perfection, and it shows very well in this amazing blog.
Its quite a long read, but I assure you it is well worth the time. It also includes non-Games Workshop models from yester year, including some beautiful dioramas.

Hi. I've been dipping through pages of your blog and may I firstly say well done on the front page. Secondly I notice early on in your blog you mention using Dettol to strip your minis old paintage. I have pro painted for a few years now and have always used Nitromors to remove old crusty layers of welded on paint. I wondered if you had encountered it or if you just don't like the god awful stench of it and preferred Dettol? Nitromors will take off all but the most stubborn paint in a matter of no more than twenty minutes. For oil paints you may need to dip them twice but you won't have to do much scrubbing or scrapping. One warning if you do try it. Never let it touch your skin cos you'll have never felt burning like it unless you've been in any blowtorch based accidents? Lol. Good luck, keep up the fine work and I just hope I can speed up your enjoyment of this excellent hobby a little bit.
17916
Post by: Miss Dee
power spray works wonders too.
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
Thanks bodworld but I'm a bit afraid of nitromors (did a jewelery course in uni so yes I have felt the wrath of the blowtorch). Dettol smells pretty awful too.
Thanks DJbutton - I had thought that they would be perfect for inquisitor - and I have like 4 inquisitors as well (only 2 painted)
Thankyou also InyokaMadoda and tortured robot and everyone else - great to get a wider audience - I will have to get on the painting - cant really afford to buy any more minis at the mo as the recession is finally hurting me, but I have a massive pile of unpainted minis still to go - including:

Yeah, Chowder convinced Yakface. To be fair, Yak didn't need much convincing.
Definitely paint the Space Orks! Though you should follow your muse and paint the most appealing figures first.

Hello fellow Weety-fans, you have probably seen these mugs on this great plog before now.
Weety made these for me for the Platinum Devil 3 Tournament and due to an unfortunate problem (parcelforce ) I couldn't take these to the tourney now find myself with a few left over and remember the interest when she showed them here.
So if anyone is interested in owning a weetyskemian44 original or has a question then drop me a PM.
Sorry for the thread-jack, RT excellence resumes in 1,2,3.....

You would love my collection. Started playing in '87, and my little brother made a point of picking up early stuff that Games Workshop did even before that. Weird stuff. Marines with needlers, power/chain swords that look like a corn cob. Stuff like that.

Wow it's been a while since I've looked at this, quite a lot of very rare figures I've never seen before. Awesome.
I've been digging thru my bits boxes and found an ancient Eldar Musician...he has like lots of pipes and crazy looking helmet and a hand flamer with sword I think. I was thinking of painting it up but perhaps it would be better used as a donation to you for completion's sake if you don't already have it.
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
Well if you are a donating kindof person! I should for honesties sake point out that I saw said eldar musician sell for about 6 pounds plus postage just the other day. Would love to own one.
Chowderhead and miss dee - I think all the imperial guard had nice tight asses back then, in fact even the space marines asses are litle more than two adamantium eggs in a ceramite handkerchief. It was the days of sexy asses over realistic asses

coud i ask for a shot of all the modles in this blog togethr please?
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
Modles? I dont have any modles. But I will attempt some group shots today - but getting the camera to focus on them all at once is tricky - go to page 48 to see my last attempt to do a group shot.
Thanks for all your lovely comments - appalling spelling though. But you might be right the background is a little bright - I need to get some new ones. Perhaps a pale blue fade to white like they used to do in 'eavy metal?
44067
Post by: DarkStarSabre
Regarding the background - it is quite stark and sort of tints the model. Great for atmosphere but a white-blue background would also be nice to see the model rather than the overall effect.
We're wierd like that but stick with what you have. If it works it works.

29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
I found some new backgrounds - But they arn't exactly subtle - the sunset one is handpainted and the other one is just a picture of some kitchen herbs that looked kinda like a jungle. I have resolved to do some group shots that you will be able to zoom in on. But I'm only going to do about 6-10 at a time as my camera has trouble focusing on more than that. So these guys are the rogue trader era Inquisitor retinue. The unpainted one will be the sniper of the group when I have fixed a scope to his gun.
I will have a look round for more backgrounds - wish I had a printer

When I click on the link it is at the very top of the list - "skylark duquesne" If you can't see it still then I am mystified.
My first sci -fi was some weird stuff bout a girl living alone on a planet with an android - then settlers come and they think she is a freak - she realises then that she was genetically modified by her father to be better adapted to the oxygen poor radioactive high-lands and that the other humans dont have blue skin and cant leave the valley where they landed, eventually the humans deliberately regress to simple technology and superstition until their children rebel and seek out the blue skinned girl and the android to ask them how to contact earth. - And I haven't the foggiest what it was called - can anyone remember?
I love a bit of asimov, julian may is great, alan dean foster and arthur C. Clarke are good. But my favourite will always be Iain M Banks
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Are you familiar with CJ Cherryh? Greatest female scifi writer; a classics teacher, she wrote future history that reads like Roman literature. Extraordinary.
29449
Post by: weetyskemian44
No I haven't, I will have to look her up - My fav female sci-fi writer is Ursula le Guin - who is famous for her fantasy "Earthsea" saga, but atually did a crap load of visionary sci-fi - really fascinating stuff. Actually wait a minute, julian may is a woman... Now I'm torn between them. Sod it they are both great.
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Indeed - though I'd go for Le Guin. But you love Banks, and Cherryh's a major influence on him. It's hard sci-fi, with very convincing non-humans. Also, they don't need to be read in sequence: as she says, you can read history in any order. However, the best place to start - if you can get a copy - is Downbelow Station, as it establishes, oh, everything.

So anyone have any thoughts for variants on the ATV? - I have one more wartrack to hack up. Purchased a plastic imperial vehicle gunner to be the driver but he could be too big I'm not sure.
Has a name on the tab.

Imperial commander! A distressingly bad sculpt on the sword - I thought t was a chainsword when I bought it but there is no groove between the teeth and the shaft so I did it as a serrated power sword.

you could have added a thin bit of plasticcard^^
but he looks very good either way, the red to the dark and grimey green looks a good match

I don't have any plasticard yet - what kind of plasticard would you recommend for that? I should probably get some for vehicles and wot-not.

well if you have plastic glue or super glue then i think in your household is already enough plasticcard... you can use for starters plastic folders for instance...these are rather thin and could be used for almost everything... also you probably have some thicker type of plastic from stuff like meat packages or salad boxes and things...straight stuff that can be used for fleshing out vehicles and such projects... if you indeed want to scratchbuilt in all seriousness then i would recommend the white stff everybody here on this board uses...comes in so many different thicknesses that it is totally unpredictable to say what you might need...well i guess a bit of everything and your good to go^^
and tubing of course^^ as this will be then also needed^^
