I now am making aircraft as well as Tanks, but the Tanks are loyal to the Emperor, and the plane is an Ork attack craft! That would be bad for the zeppelin if it saw it flying about Vik! Orks love to shoot at big targets.

You know what that needs? Some brown/black or red washes, nice and thick, to really bring out the details- and when I say washes, I mean allll over. Dunk it in your brush-cleaning jar after you've been doing the mud for a while.

I say this because when I look at the things like between the plates, the hatch on the front, the smoke launchers, the extra ammo boxes, they're just solid, with no variation. You need shadow and wear on them, places where the dust and dirt settle that can't be cleaned with a hose-down, things like that.

Oh I agree, that is the next step! I have a big 'ole tank brush and plenty of black and devlan mud washes to slather that with, like a turkey in the oven! I will take the blackest and get the seams and cracks, then washes allover with devlan mud for the overall grime feel of a dirty tank! But first I need to add decals so that they too get the dirtied effects as welll.

yucky muddy this tank has become...someone driving that and caring for it has gone all slutty on it^^ by the way, what colors do you use for the mud? and i second the wash shower^^ suggested by anvildude, particulary the red wash sound interresting as this might cause some nice shading effects...

Well, I have no red wash, but the brown and black I have aplenty!

It is a good color for mud and such. it was also a consideration for the camo instead either the green or the shadow gray

well i can understand the use for camo but i think your camo is better off without...grey is more unique! and to replace it with the green i think it would have been a too much german late war camo then... something i think would blow the fluff behind apart....

It's actually rather easy to make your own washes. Just go to a Walmart and buy a bottle of Applebarrel red paint, glop some into a jar, and put in water until you reach the consistency you want.

GW ones all work, but being the cheapskate you are, any acryllic paint that sticks to plastic, I think.

well if primed any would suffice, but i like the idea behin the total drench of a wash... stuffing the tank inside a big enough tupper wear and then let the wash do all the work... like dipping but with lighter stuff...

Anvildude, I do NOT support the destructive entity that is known as Wal-Mart. I will support a local paint store before I walk into one of those places. Wally-world as it is also known is much despised in America, except for some places where they have yet to wipe out the local economic zones they squat in.

Shrike, Ouch man, keep in mind that once the money comes from YOU< that times can be a tough decision! for me what can I buy for 3.75? a 12ml of paint, or milk and bread?

Vik, That was why I mentioned my fat tank brush! Plenty of area will get covered fast, then, with smaller brushes, the cracks between the plating!

lol sometimes i wonder if you are a true american shaso... for your taste in comedy and now your despise in walmart you might get a treason offence... very un american of you^^

how wide ith this brush of yours? is it one for painting walls? doesn´t it suck up too much paint and doesn´t give it back?

A couple more oddball tanks for you: Hobbylink Japan website has a couple of 1/48 sci--fi tanks from Aoshima models' "City police 21" rage (whatever that is?), a MBT and a Tank destroyer type thingy. I'd put up a link but forgot how to. They seem the right size for 40k, not quite super-heavy but nearly, although they're not covered in bolt heads/rivets or skulls. Prices about $25.

Others you may care to look at are Micro max diecasts, which do M113's, Hanomag with MBRL, and others in about 1/48 scale, each for about £5.

I have and modified the Tank destroyer looking MBT-90D Mazurka, it was the last pic I placed above your post! ^^ I see that the MBT-99 Temjin is in stock now. Hmmm, like the double track set up.

As for this one: I moved the main gun into the turret and a Heavy bolter in the bow.

I did see a diagram, they are independent suspension for them so while one is going down something, the other slightly grips the pothers side until ready to also hit that side. Strange, eh? It would also have a side benefit of still having some working tracks if one set get's shot out.

Possibly to aid in traversing more rough terrain with less general bounce and discomfort for the crew? No idea. Though i do think it looks pretty neat.

Now, how long did it take for your salt mixture to actually dry on the model. I am trying it out and so far its nearly been 36 hours and its still equally as wet as it was upon application. I may need to fine tune the mixture of salt and paint to try and remedy this. Though what is your experience with it?

Cheers.

Ah, I did mix with Graveyard Earth paint as well as a liberal application of salt. It dried within a scant few hours, but I did apply it is smallish amounts.

ok, I may have been too liberal in my application!
I will try lessening the amount i slather on each application.

I used scorched brown and a bit of snakebite leather.
As soon as i have access to my camera again(I.E. the wife gives it back) I will be taking photos of the various mud effects i have been trying out. I think my one method came out quite well on my Scratchbuilt Truck.

True, Vik. Accuracy is more important! ahh, the crew can deal with a few concussions as long as they can AIM straight!

exactly^^

also i wonder why you don´t simply glue the salt or for that matter sand on the parts that you want muddy with pva... after that painting or drybrushing can happen...

Been Seeking out oddball tanks, Tanky alien infantry @ 2011/06/26 12:45:49

Post by: FireCancer

I have done that, though i am currently testing out multiple types of muddying and weather. To see which one has the desired effect.

I have tried a PVA and sand mix, straight sand onto PVA on the model.
I am trying the salt method in both the mixture, and glued on.

Mainly just experimenting in general.

Hmm, the best advantage I can see is survivability. Maybe if the one of the tracks got shot off, it could still move at a decent enough speed on the other three.

hmmm... woulodn´t that mean einter that the tank would be in a cycle moving? or that the friction of the broken track would slow the tank considerably down...? my knowledge of tanks is rather limited...

Been Seeking out oddball tanks, Tanky alien infantry @ 2011/06/26 23:41:53

Ah, well, the shot track would be slipped off most likely, and the wheels would sort of keep the tank up, and no0t tip over, allowing the other three track sections to keep it moving!

The other standardized tracks, well, once the tread is shot off, that usually leads to the one side sinking all of those wheels into the ground and pinning the tank and turning it into a pill-box.

cool videaos, i have too keep my eye open for some gundam movies it seems...was hard to find out for whom i should feel sympathy ...either the better tank crew or the mecha squad...was a close catch...the music of the first gave me goosebumps all over, love that kind of fully operatic rocky sound...
and didn´t in the second movie the tracks even selfrepaire?

personally from what i have seen in movies i would never want to fight in a tank... i think every tank crew member knows that the viehicle will be his steeled grave...

Oh, the series is for the other ideof the war in Gundam, but the mobility of the multiple treads was shown nicely, but in the end, when it went to robotic looks, the treads were too mangled by the mecha squad, (Those mechs were captured by the other side BTW)

Steel coffins for the tank crews, but they now make new system,s to make that less a worry.

nice mudeffects, and size alltogether looks cool and quite modern...but there seem to be some disturbing details... the smokelaunchers at the aft seem to be mounted downwards...??? would this work? also there is something odd about the sponsons... the door behind them is too much visible still...and to deal a further strike... the turret seems to look a bit as if hanging only by some threads... this connection should be flesshed out...is the paintjob complete or will only the new bitz be finished?

anyway i still think this design is cool...despite my critic! maybe you could shave off the aquilla above the sponsons...this might help...

at shaso...maths vs perun...odd choice in an oddbal tank thread^^

Thanks!

@Vik: First off thank you for the kind words! Now to address the aft smoke Launchers. I plan on removing them. I think they look awful facing downwards. Though im waiting on some more plasticard to cover up the plastic underneath as it was plastic glued on, and is not so nice looking after removal.
The Sponsons: I agree that the door is too visable. though i am Not sure exactly how i am going to remedy this. Possibly taking the sponsons off and doing some plasticard work to bulk the model up and cover the doors. Though as i said that is going to have to wait. I made the sponsons out of my scrap bits of plastic.
Turret mount: The turret mount is still in need of a putty job because of the large gap between the turret ring and the main tank body. I may try to use up some more of my smaller scraps of plasticard to create a slope upwards to the turret ring. though i am not sure if i can with my scraps. Again, Waiting patiently for my order of plasticard.

I also feel that the sponson is mounted too far down on the body, like its almost scraping the ground. The aquila is the main culprit in that.

@Shaso: Durned Eldar Fairies!!! Need to go back to dancing and frolicking not destroying the beautiful Perun...
And again thank you very much for the kind words of compliment!!!

i am glad that my words didn´t insult you in any way...*phew* the model is such a cool idea that i tend to bluntly point out criticism as i want you to full reach what you can achieve with such a fine model! i thinki you have the right kind of plans for the doors and the turret and the sponsons could do with a good see to...i think there are some missmatching angles and i cant for now see it as a working weapon...there is something yellow inside? using scrap plastic is always good for me, so i can only encourage you to do so too.... have you considered using plastic from household items? these have sometimes great potential...sometimes it comes even with a structure to it... like waffeld or other...for steelwork i think great use...crossing fingers for your soon to be arrival of materials,

cheers, vik

No Offense taken at all!

Yes, there is something yellow. Its half of a little tank, from a train scalel farm equipment model. I just cut it to size for the circular look that the inner working of the GW sponsons. it has yet to be painted in these photos.

As for household plastic, i have been using DVD cases for some plastic work. Though i find it difficult to get proper. Its very thick, and stubborn stuff. Otherwise i haven't tried too many other items.

have you looked into tupper ware? or for that matter i tend to find odd shaped bitz from foodpackaging...there is sometimes great stuff to be found there...

ah so ths is a good idea to use as a sponson mount! even if i cant see it now i can picture it quite good in my mind and think this might be a good way to use non gw stuff that has texture to it!

as for DVD cases or as i came to name them jewel cases... i think these would be exellent for terrain, specially orky ones...

Firecancer, CD cases are definitely hard and brittle, as Vik suggested, tupper-ware may be more workable.

Not Odd Balls, but Oddballs the tank designs you would not see all of the time in the game. The odd tanks that few people have dared to make themselves, or the kits out there like from Old Crow, or now closing down DLD that made all kinds of tanks and vehicles of the abnormal kind!I might even take time today at some point to add decals to the Perun and start to splash oily black and devlan mud washes all over it as well!

all these ddball tanks make me regret not taking pics of my old tanks:
a rhino with meltagun damage, bioacid damage, 40+ bullet holes, shrapnel embedded, guy leaning out of side hatch carrying a sniper screaming, and a dud demolisher cannon shell wedged in the front.
vindicator with ork clambering up the dozer blade shoving a melon into the demolisher cannon and an undetonated ork landmine stuck to the back,

a leman russ with an ork poking it's head up out of a slightly ajar ventilation hatch.

is my fortress of arrogance considered oddball?

the problem with the decals as i see it is that they leave a spot of shiny surface everytime the are aplied...is this effect noticably in RL too? the flash really brings that up quite bothering...have you dullcoat or something on that line? if not i would suggest getting a bit of the color of what is underneath and just smear it over the decal and then quickly sponge it off...thus dulling the decall in the right color and still beeing in line of the model...

the perun has had to see so much action...it is battered beyond anything i´ve seen now^^ only the most senior crews could handle and take care of that beast in the right way!

if possible i would love to see the perun in bright daylight...out in the open nature...that would be a nice pic! and it would show me the natural state of your paintjob so much better...

cheers, and i hope your maths measured up too!

i guess my heart would be all around the place if my creation would be balanced that high above and on such a small surface...

the sun really did great for your perun, he looks suitable epic for me! have you considered using on some places a bit of glossy varnish on the mud? to show some wetter areas? not a must... just a thought...
and lol your grey looks stil blueish to me^^ even the sun is one of a mind with me^^

from what i see the scratches on the top of the sponsons are the best... they look so brutal to me...that must have really hurt in the ears when all that scatching and skreetiching had happened^^

seeing the perun now in full shining daylights one has to wonder what else there is still to do on it? i think it is done completley? so me thinks? will this mean the end of this thread or is there a new tank project looming around (well despite all the old crow tankies^^)? guess your major concentration will now flow into the bomma?

on a closing note: exellent stuff! and i am not overdoing it for a friend here^^

cheers, vik

Add in my tendency for Vertigo and I was very nervous indeed!

I have considered glossing up the mud, but "Water effects" may work that better. Yeah, that blue gray sure does show off the blueness aspect a lot. Like a kind of slate or shale.

When sliding them in for transport., the crews wear ear baffles headsets.

Oh, the grime washes are next! Then pics of recent work on the Old Crow minis are also in line along with the fighta-bomma.

Thanks!

don´t know if i showed that here too, but for small areas on a tight budget i would suggest clear window color...the stuff you see on window panes in schools and kindergartens...or possibly where kids live...for the purpose this is dead cheap and you can aply it very acuratly... also it has a structure to it that i used for a watery muddy effect myself...to my shame i never again did it and ruined the base due to overwashing the parts... effecivly covering the whole shiny part thus...and to top it i never did a good pic... but in good time i show that effect on other bases!

I like it. You might want to darken the outer areas of the blue spots and lighten the inner area of the blue spots. It gives the peice a little more depth, and it adds a little realism. But it looks like a really good start.

I am using lightning blue for the inner areas, but the camera doesn't seem to catch that inner lighter color. It is over a spot of Privateer Arcane blue. I may have to retry by using a base of a darker blue.

Well, I got out the MBT-90D, and decided to compare it to the T-104"Sabre" MBT is shorter in length than the Sabre
[/img]

And it is about a half or 3/4 meter shorter in comparative height
[/img]

[/img]

The MBT-90D is marginally slimmer than the T-104, and you can see the "ambusher" camo covers as opposed to the simpler camo net on the T-104.
[/img]

The T-104 cannot hide behind the MBT-90D
[/img]

The MBT-90D can hide behind a T-104 though.
[/img]

Over all, the MBT-90D as a sniper is tighter quarters to the roomy T-104.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The MBT-90D is smaller in every respect to the T-104, and it serves a different purpose, as the Sabre is meant for general combat and the 90 is a sniper, ambush tank or scoot and shoot depending upon the tactics of the tanker crews manning it.

yup seems a good match for both and tho you still have to buy turrets comparing the prices you most likley will be in for a 2:1 ratio FW to OC...i call that a bloddy bargain^^

Been Seeking out oddball tanks, Tanky alien infantry @ 2011/07/22 09:56:27

Goanna with turret at a total of 12pounds each vs Venator's cost of 34.70 Means I still come out ahead buying two Goannas and their turrets. 24lbs vs 34.70, that is a 10.70pound savings!

The Gecko, and turret are 11pounds each and two of those would be cheaper than 30.60 for the single Tauros. 22pounds versus 30.60pounds, 8.60 shaved off!

Getting four attack buggies for less then the cost of the other two! Like a small nation, I have to look at price for such things compared to the more expensive equipment of the other guys.
Like while US stuff would be nice to arm one';s nation with for defense, I can see Russian equipment at the same effetiveness at half the costs!

besides... when will you test the luck of your perun in an epic fight? crew must be way itchy for a bit of rollin` and rockin` ^^

seeing the comparrision shot of the geckos... the one is with an open compartment... will you order two of this built and leave one open? might be a nice difference between two same built models then...

Since they are so cheap, maybe three will be bought.

Perun has had One fight, so have the Sabres.

Sabre I pay extra points for and use it as a "Fast" tank, so move 12" and fire one heavy weapon. slow down to 6" and fire 2 heavy weapons.

Glad you like the searchlight!

Considering what the Eldar can do to tanks in so many ways, I would say that they have shown themselves well and firmly set for future uses

I think the tops are a bit too clean. Any environment where they'd get that sort of overall muddy look on the bottom would probably splash bits of mud all up in the air to come back down on the tops of the tanks. Maybe stipple some brown onto the top? Not much, just a few flicks, but something to break the two-sidedness of the dirt.

The OC tanks are looking great!!!

Have you thought of splattering some darker brown color throughout the mud effect you have already done. To give some depth since you have no sand/salt/flour to give it texture? I like the look after the washes particularly on the Sabre!

On the note of mud chunks splattering on Top of the tanks... Hmm... I may try using a large soft bristled brush and doing a little splatter upwards with the brush loaded with paint. Just to see if that would create some kind of desirable effect.

And vik i haven't forgotten about doing a mud effect guide. I am just waiting on finishing my chimera build and doing another type of muddying!

@sonofruss: www.OldCrowModels.co.uk is the company that makes the models that Shaso has there. the Dragoon, the Sabre and claymore vehicles. Old Crow makes some great looking models, and they are pretty cheap by comparison to some of the GW products. Not sure how much the shipping is to us in the USA.

Ah, either the ole bucket and brush, or pressure washer eh? LOL! I know about the Bundeswehr, we were always kind of jealous s we saw your guys with full hair while we had to get haircuts every time it went past 3"!

Yeah, makes sense for the big girls to go and be lass muddied than the little ones as the little ones are small enough to get a good coating! shorter, and speeding makes for some plumes of muck to splash all over!

The Geckos and Goannas will be more like the MAN trucks as they are not even 5ton trucks and are all terrain types, and those always get a good dose of mud!

Yeah, a darker more simple uniform, with a lighter gray dry-brushed over it, one could say that command did not see the need for the camo patterns of the infantry being needed for the tank divisions, so, they get a more specialized uniform to denote their status.

The two closest designs in performance and carry capacity(12 men) are the "Chimera" aka B.M.D.-80 and the newer design "Lancer" aka B.M.P.-80. Both carry up to 12 soldiers, both are amphibious, there the similarity ends. The BMD-80 is slightly taller by about 1-2 feet depending upon variants and equipment attached than the BMP-80. One can also see that the BMP-80 has a wider track design, making it able to exchange parts with the T-104 Sabre as they share the same track shoes and wheels. The BMD-80 shares those similar feature with the T-100 Leman Russ models. Another difference is tha the heavy bolter is on the bow plat of the BMD-80 whereas the new servo turret of the BMP-80 is housing both the heavy bolter and Multi-laser. See pics below.
[/img]

One other similarity shared is an off-center location for the Turrets. Both are off t0o the right side of center on each design, but there is more deck sspace showed on the BMP-80
[/img]

Oddly enough, these different vehicles can indeed shield each other as the height difference is of little consequence. The commander of the BMD however can sit atop the vehicle and see what is around the area while the commander of the BMP-80 would use the sensoria in the servo turret to stay safely away from being a sniper's target unlike the BMD-80's commander.
[/img]

Though shorter in length than the BMP-80, the BMD-80 still hides the low slung BMP-80 well enough as seen below.
[/img]

Due to the design layout for the crew, turret systems and passenger and engine/transmission, the BMP-80 is overall a larger vehicle than the BMD-80. The BMP-80 is almost 2 meters longer than the BMD-80! While the transmission is in front of the engine, to the right of the driver, and in front of the turret/commander, the turret's placement also makes the passenger compartment "L" shaped while the BMD-80 is using a simpler "box" shaped passenger compartment
[/img]

Here, we see where the BMP-80 is wider than the BMD-80, nearly a full meter wider, this makes the BMP-80 a more "open country" and "expanded urban area" machine than the BMD-80 which is still wider than the BTR-90"Claymore" and BRDM-66 "Dragoon"
[/img]

Final image was set up to show the front differences between both machines, the BMD-80 on the right shows driver on the right side, and Heavy-Boltgun on the left side of the "Chimera", whilst the BMP-80 has the driver seated on the left side and the engine is to the right. Another note, while both APC's have turrets mounted slight to the right of center, the "Chimera" has it's turret mounted more to the front end of the hull, and the "Lancer" has it's turret further back and more midway between front and back due to the inverted "C" shape of Engine/Driver/Passenger compartments.
[/img]

[/img]

It can also be noted that from above that the turret on "Lancer" is a larger design than that on the "Chimera" as it is housing both main weapons+sensori/augruies and support sysems, the BMD-80 has just the command cupola and weapon(Heavy bolter in this case with the Comms outside the turret. The Comms on the "BMP-80 are internally stored. This "all inside the armor" approach to the "Lancer" has brought it the nickname "Turtle" although it is meant to keep up with the "Sabre" class Fast-Tank, also having been built with the "fast" quality.

Deep running, and the effect the stipling has had is a more rough and natural mud "paint" effect, especially on the side armor slats.

And now for the second dirty Sabre
[/img]

On the side skirts especially, you can see how the flick brushing as a bas, followed by stipling effects changes the look of the mud and gives texture. It also gave me a thicker mud flow effect, it also makes it look less "brushed-on"
[/img]

[/img]

Head on! see how the olde method(rt fender) looks compared to the new method(left fender)

Hi Palehorse, yeah, they seem to be cooling off for a while, the 8-wheel looks great! If they had stayed open for making them, these would also have been in my collection as well.Still have Old Crow and the conversion kits from Chapterhouse to make wheeled transports.

Been mostly busy painting the tanks myself, occasional games, but yeah, i can see them as either qa Salamander or sentinel stand in, with that many weapons, definite a Salamander recon vehicle, fast and well armed.

40k Ninja wrote:Interesting camo idea for the tanks.

Hello 40k Ninja, I explained the concept very early on in the thread, but that was quite some time ago, basically, the camo reflects the Highland Tundras opf the majority of Khadrovian Konfederacy planets, these are tanks and troops from a bleak and harsh environment, and their camo reflects this.

whoa....missed really much here... your marketing description is at it´s best...as usual... if i recall corectly no one has done that before^^ what it now needs is some combat action footage vids...to really boost the sales^^

and concerning your future ideas of orders from OC...wouldn´t it be easier to just say what you are not inclined to order?^^

also seeing how you tested new methods of mudaplication...i like the siongled out patches of mud that are beyond the average mudline on the sabre... this makes it quite realistic looking...tho i have to say for the seam of the mudline is still think a sponge or foam from blisters would give a nice touch...

cheers, vik

See what happens when you let a tick bite you? You missed a lot!

Thanks, really did put plenty of thought into that fluffy sales pitch. Made the Lancer seem awesome sauce! Now to test it and it's revved out engines.

There were so few things I could pass up from OC!^^

Yeah, the second stipled effect really makes it look a bit more mucky, and well, the sponge doesn't allow as much for the plopped on look I was after, especially flung about at high speed like I was after.

Welcome back, take it slow and easy, work off that Lyme's disease.

The mud is looking pretty good so far!!! I like it. Though i think you need to make it look a little more realistic.
Try out some Dark brown brushed onto the lower areas of the chassis and armor plates. To try and give it a Slightly wetter look at the bottom. Though they look good, I think touching it up will make it stand out so much better.

As for the OC model with the big arm! I WANT!!! I am planning on picking up one or two of these for Counts as Atlus Support tanks! I have my custom Atlus to be used as a Super Heavy Tow, And these will be for my Russ's, Chimeras, etc.

@Firecancer, I may have to mix the Graveyard earth with a darker brown to get that "wet look you speak of, but I have yet to devlan mud wash the tanks, it does make some changes as is, a heavier wash at the bottom may do the trick as well.

@Vik. I have a huge amount of Tau many vehicles and suits, I have yet to get them out and snap pics to show Dakka-ites as yet, I even have a 8man squad of SST for my Gue'vessa squad.

Yeah that many troopers, I have WGF Great coats/Cadians/Valhallans/Vostryoans/Kasrkin/Bauhaus/Catachan minis for my IG regiments, no boredom so far, and I am planning on getting some more soldiers from Bolt Action, WW-II Russians/Italian airborne/Polish cavalry/etc. BUT with Dust now making so many new minis for my use, Hmmmm.

@Deathshead420, Nice! light tank chassis in 1/35th scale work so well as WH40K tanks! That Hetzer makes a nice version of Devastator for the Marines. with plastic-card and the right bits, you can make a siege shield for that baby.

the shaky 80 looks really good!

the officer uniforms i really like, they look really official and it fits their position in the ranks quite good and still sets them apart from the maintroops!

concerning your hetzer deathshade, i would recommend to you that you flesh out the barrel of that mortar a bit more and get the barrel to look not so real life metallike...it thus looks a bit too much off...otherwise a nice tank that suits the marines or a guard regiment quite well!

concerning the woodstain...one thing is fer sure, the devlan mud surley kicks the fresh painted tank into the age of used tanks in one go^^ i think in the end i too will give a cheap woodstain a go to see what can be achieved by a very low priced good...i have seen some nice models done that way... never but tanks...so you could be doing field research by this^^

I have been contemplating metal showing on the dozer blade in "scratches" Not sure what you mean the peaks? The flash may make it seem that way, but in normal lighting, in front of me she seems dirty enough Or should more "mud" have fallen off the treads to smudge the upper areas?

i like your grimed up collection... in fact i thought them worthy enough to show my wife and even she liked their muddy state...i think comes time you had to invest into some terrain...to better display them...somethinng that works in those ways to show how they got so muddy in the first place...^^

Impressed the missus eh? Well, now, terrain will likely be the future project for me once I have the money, nice display terrain of highland bogs, marshes or river banks with the muddied water effects for the water, and the wet stuff drawn up the side they came out of it on. In the meantime, i have another Lancer and claymore to muddy up and so tonight will be pics of the factory fresh models shown next to the decaled/grimed/muddy ones for stark contrast with their clean camo paint versus the grime.

What a contrast!

Even the backsides have a major difference!

From above, grime on the left, new and clean on the right!

More of the contrast of the side skirts

Head to head from above, grime and mud on the vet on the left, [see forum posting rules] and span on the newb to the right

It's an automatic one, I think.

The first part (speck with an 'i') IS an ethnic slur against Latin-Americans.*
Although the complete phrase is also an old slur on mixed heritage (Afro and Latin-Americans) from the 1950s.

They are 25mm Old Crow resin model tanks.

Website: http://www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/25vehicles.htm

Specifically, the LANCER (heavy assault carrier), Sabre (heavy tank) and Dragoon (half track).

The 8 wheeler is the Claymore heavy APC.

I was in fact using a term for clean and shiny that is also the exact name of an American cleaning product, but the system detected the wrong things as it must have thought of the slur you mentioned, and that slur is not spelled with a k like the word "speck" so overly sensitive computer server. Oh well in the world of watered down, Orwellian political correctness speak what else can one do? (I suppose I shall have to get that up-to-date new speak dictionary 10th edition?)

@Vik, Oh yes, the dirty, muddy effects are definitely worth it, just a tad intensive on my supplies of Graveyard Earth and Devlan Mud washes.

@ Boss Ed' butt! the Old Crow series has some vehicles even more suited to Orky cobversion in the shape of the Geko Pu truck, and the halftracked vehicles like the Goanna and Dragoon. They may be done with crisp, clean lines and panels, but with the right extra plates sloppily added in and other fun bitz, you can Orky 'em up nice!

@Chromedog, It's hard not to be a avid supporter of Old Crow once you have the models in your hands!~

Notice the cleaning supply name w/o the separations got past the censor program? I think that the program is overly sensitive, just like car alarms that go off when the breeze is strong enough to vibrate the car.

The Pejorative CAN be used with or without the 'k'.

I've seen it used both ways - and wiki also mentions this (not that wiki is always accurate).

Probably an all-inclusive or over-sensitive filter.

Aye, but I try not to use the slurs and perjoratives as there are enough impolite and rude folks on the net as is. I have a lot of friends that fall in the "Latino" category, even though most of the time I tend to just think of them as part of my friends group. To me, Humans are humans, they are either good folk to have around, or as the negative minded ones, left to themselves.

Okay, I decided to see roughly how big things were since the new FW newsletter had a chimera next to both the Crassus and Praetor and they use the same treads as the Gorgon, so I thought, "why not go back and do more work on the Sea-Dragon? " and have a Chimera alongside it to show the scale, I think it is about the same size as either of those beasts.

So, front view
[/img]

So big it did not fit with the chimera nose to tail.

Well, more where that came from! Here we have a side shot, there is no way for the Sea-Dragon to hide behind the Chimera
[/img]

The whole big one next to the little one, size is important for a machine that carries 3-5 times the amount of men the Chimera does.
[/img]

[/img]

Another view where I had them with the edge of the leaf to get some sense of it all size and scale wise.
[/img]

And here we see that the gun-crews have gotten to their stations!

Any chance we could get a shot of a Sabre next to a Chimera or Leman Russ? I'm interested in seeing how it stacks up.

the sea dragon? where did you literally dig that one up... i am lost on that one...but i totaly dig the two manned gunners to the rear... oh and by the way... do you get difficulties with oponents for making vehicles with special rules? after all getting so many crews out in the field with one transport is sure a nive thing to have^^

There may be a comparative somewhere about, I can certainly snap one as I have both a chimera and sabre sitting at my side!

It is a cionversion of a 1/35th scale WWII amphibious assault vehicle. As can be seen, I made a drop ramp for the front, And it is for Apocalypse play as it is either a new VDR vehicle for use, or a Gorgon stand in or Crassus stand in.

Beautiful. I'm considering the idea of using the Sabre turret on a Leman Russ or Chimera chassis. If you got any pics that could help me get an idea of how they compare, it would be appreciated

In all honesty, the sabre turret is massive compared to the Leman turret. it won't fit, see how big it is from above next tot he Chimera?
[/img]

width of a Sabre
[/img]

Yet the Sabre is only as tall as the new turret Chimey

With an officers for proper scale comparisons!

The Lancer turrets might work as they are smaller, and they have barrels for heavier cannons to boot!

Thanks! I do take positive criticism as well, so folks made suggestions which trigger ideas that burn like a forest fire through my brain and this is the results, I look at my grimed Lancewr and keep thinking it needs a hose down, or I will have that dirt transfer to me the illusion is so well done in RL. It is with such folks as yourselves that have me make the tanks look more "real" Good luck on training, it is for a greater cause for your armies sakes! If I get to Jersey area I will let you know! I will bring the Iron Guard with me! I still have so many Leman Russs tanks in unfinished mode, once done with the OC models, I have, the other oddballs will be worked on and grimed as well!

No problems, it is like the thought of putting Leopard II turret on a PzKpfW-IV. My idea is that OC has the Lancer turrets and smaller ones that may work as well, look at the Gladius turret

Love the everything about the Sea Dragon except the "nail" guns in the back. You've got to get some real barrels on there.

Old Crow ought to give you a commission at this point. Even with the lack of detail on the wheels your photos have sold me on picking up one of their half tracks.

I made those with plastic tube stocks, and the "muzzle-break" is cut off tube stock as well on the Sea-Dragon. I an looking into snipping them when I get a better "muzzle-break' for them, and 4 of them at that.

LOL! I wish Jez could do that,m but he is a small operation that can afford little in t hat regard. I did get a nice surprise for my birthday which the vehicles were a self given present to myself, got a free preview/of stowage kits and bags and rolled up camo netting for the Sabres.

For now, the new looking OC Claymore

Next to the dirty and decalled 845

The newbie Lancer, also ready for touch ups/decals/dirt

Too clean to stay that way for much longer!

Good to be back on track somewhat, and yes, I thought you'd like that piece of short, short fiction. Of course Shrike joined that "discussion" , but SM and IG are like Apples and Oranges.

But with Guard, so many camo or non camo options, weapon options, vehicles and so on. With SM it is Power armor/terminator armor/rhino variants/landraider variants/landspeeder variants.

Kill stripes, white ones for 5 kills, and black ones for 10 kills. And yeah, those all came with the tank regiment decals in all GW tank kits. As for the Multi-lasers barrels, a dry brush of mithril silver will fix the problem.
