OK that is an amazing job by the 3d artist (?)

Post by: JoshInJapan
All of your latest prints/kitbashes look like they came straight out of the old Realms of Chaos books. I look forward to seeing them painted.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Very kind of you to say JoshInJapan ! I too am quite eager to start painting this batch...
Finished assembling a few more today, with one more sister of battle to corrupt (It has a head I swear)
Two more marines
And this guy, quite painfull to clean up, but still looking quite good...
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
yeah 3d printing seems to fit right in with your wierd style
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
I admit I have grown very fond of this tool, I have now almost replaced buying second hand models for bits with buying STLs...
Finished assembling this heretech tyranid matriarch today, one more dark mech magos for me !
Finished the mounted lancer, with minor work on the cloth
And printed some kneeling daemonette riders, wish should fit nicely on the sides of the demon empress throne
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
HAHA. Tyranid darkmech matriarch.
Really fond of that idea and the model seems to be doing it justice.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Hahahaha right ? They are releasing this as a stand in for the hive tyrant, and are doing the whole range...
Finished the flying throne thing today
Also printed a keeper of secred
And a daemonette with long legs
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
And finished this tall thing
Some minor things to complete and then back to painting !
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
well, promising as allways
121268
Post by: Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll
That thing IS tall!
62835
Post by: IGtR=
Mighty tall!
How do the 3-D prints hold up toughness-wise? They look awfully fragile (in a sort of brittle resin way). Is there much damage from cleanup of fine parts, or do you just have to accept that some supports etc. have to stay lest they cause significant damage by being removed?
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot folks !
@IGtR=: Well it is very hard, and indeed quite brittle. The anycubic green I am using here is much more likely to break when falling on the floor for example, and much more complicated to cut cleanly than plastic or even injection resins. Now other UV resin exist and behave differently. I had a white plant based one earlier that was a bit softer, but did not however behave well for large hollowed models...
I heard that some people mix resins in order to get models that are still precise, but will resist a fall well.
Cleaning on another hand is not much of an issue, since you remove supports before curing, so it is still quite flexible. Removing in hot water will usually allow for easy removal without damage. You can even go for very fine parts (as the weapons of the daemonettes a few posts above) then you just need to be carefull and use pliers. For a space marine body on the contrary, I usually just pull on the thing and it comes without damage.
Obviously, this depends on whether the supports were added in a sensible manner, but it is usually the case.
Finished corrupting the armour plates of the titans' feet today :
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Ohhh, now that is certainly a big big project
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
For sure ! Applying this process to all the armour panels of that beast will take a while, but well, I'll spread it over time...
Last thing I wanted to build: some disgusting objective markers:
And with this, on to priming !
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Right, just finished this beast, was a really fun thing to paint, I'll definitely make two more, to field as obliterators:
And with its brothers
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
That thing is odly adorable?
I like it
95538

Raptor Jesus! Came out great, excellent wedding gift Going to have to find that and make one for my wife
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks !
@Boss Salvage, this is walrit's design on thingiverse, scaled down at something like 50-60% (which is defeinitely why his paintjob looks better than mine ^^)
95538

One keeper of secrets was not enough right ?

Dark Mech gribblies look adorable yet terrifying, great work.
Nice to see Greater Demons in appropriate sizing!?
116601
Post by: Syro_
I agree, if you can have two, why not have two . I'm looking forward to seeing how you paint them. I also like the differences you have between the two Keepers of Secrets.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot folks, gotta paint the daemonettes first in order to warm up though !
Finished some word bearers today:
And group shot with another primaris marine in the same style. That I did ages ago. Yeah, in this blog we paint MSUs at a rate of one model per year...
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
And just finished a daemonette, trying some fluor pigments...
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Turned out well i'd say.
Fluor can be a bit tricky in my experience.

Post by: Not Online!!!
You seem to really productive man!
Also another nice daemonette, also, is that a WB sister?
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks ! Yeah lots of models primed or in painting progress at the moment, so it is a satisfying time with models being completed regularly. And yes, this is a WB scheme, most of the next sisters will be more obviously corrupted !

Thanks a lot friends !
@NotOnline, I'm pretty sure the maker of that head did it on purpose, I need to make a chaos sith twilek one of these days...
Finished my giant dark mech thing tonight :
Alongside more dark mech things
And also, a daemonette
121268
Post by: Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll
Absolutely glorious and disgusting!
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks ! That was the intent !
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Chaos sith twi'lek?
I asume the lekku will be bit more prevalent and dangerous on that one!
Also that dark mech giant thing, one of your best dark mech creations
116601
Post by: Syro_
You're giant Dark Mech thing looks amazing Very suitably creepy.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot gents, quite happy with that last one indeed !
Finished painting the mechatyranid priestess today :
And with some thralls for scale...She is a big girl !
40139
Post by: Thumpingbear
Excellent stuff as per usual Kernel. I like the juxtaposition of the graceful skinny delicate legs and mask against the big ol' gut on the mech. Also the rotting inflamed flesh on the back, super gross.
Priestess is great too, the yellow cloak is so vivid, but not distracting. Good all around!
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot ThumpingBear !
Glad you noticed the flesh on the back, I actually made the main body out of cheap clay, that tends to crack when drying. I usually clean it up with greenstuff afterwards, but here I filled the cracks with superglue and pressed them back in place, ending up with the gory scars.
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
New priestess is really cool.
116601
Post by: Syro_
Wow that priestess is bigger than I expected, thanks for the scale shot. She looks really good, and has so much detail that you picked out so nicely.

Oh I most definitely will ^^ ! 7 more on the painting tray at the moment, and I'll try to have a 500 point list shortly...

Two more sisters done :
116601
Post by: Syro_
Did you make this Sister of Battle as a homage to this cover? Your sisters are looking great by the way.
121268
Post by: Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll
That's an out-of-the-box Sister model that was explicitly modelled after that cover! It's a great paint job of her.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks folks ! Indeed as Gwyn said, this is the only non 3d printed model of the batch. Almost original aside from a badly bent sword I had to replace. I really love when great 2d artwork is turned into models.
Finished one more corrupted sister today
And the whole crew together :
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Chaos sisters are awesome.
116601
Post by: Syro_

95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Aaand one more (severely) corrupted sister
122359
Post by: tzurk
Sisters looking great mate. Lovely group shot! Palette and conversions playing very nicely together. Bit surprising how it doesn't take much to make some of the sisters sculpts look very sinister!
Thanks for sharing!
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot Tzurk !
Finished the crab defiler today, that was a big one !
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
the possessed sister is great!
but that crab...
That crab is awesome.
But you missed the opportunity for this:
120526
Post by: ShadowsAndDust
That giant enemy crab looks amazing, but aren't you afraid somebody will attack its weak point for massive damage?
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Hahaha thanks folks !
@Not Online, might not be too late to fit a blade in the front left claw yes...But I would surely end up stabbing myself ^^ (Blood for the blood god) !
@ShadowAndDust: Indeed having its weak point attacked for massive damage is a curse every crab has to leave with. Not sure my opponents are clear with what that weak point is so...
121268
Post by: Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll
Did you magnetize the turrets so plucky heroes can knock them off and use them against it?
Looks great! I love the redesign with the low head and the turrets on the back.
306
Post by: Boss Salvage
Awesome crab tank demon walker! If it's a sculpt, it's a great one - and if it's a conversion, extra good on you
+1 to all the Metal Slug-esque commentary as well
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks, much appreciated !
@Gwyn chan r'Gwyll: Not magnetized no, so that if I need another loadout, I'll need to build another, and therefore end up with two defilers ! But plucky heroes are free to try of course !
@Boss Salvage: It is a 3d print, can't claim I did much beside the painting and a few details/wires.
116601
Post by: Syro_
Your crab defiler looks amazing! That's a great addition to your army.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror

Finished a couple more models today, starting with this knight thing:
Also, this scheming m*ther f*cker
Looks like the two of them work well together

Post by: KernelTerror
Finished some daemonettes today !
120526
Post by: ShadowsAndDust
Now THAT'S what daemonettes should look like.
116601
Post by: Syro_
Wow, you are really churning out a lot of great models at high speed. They all look great, and I agree about that being how daemonettes should looks.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot guys, glad you approve. These daemonettes were actually my very first try with oil paints. I intend to use the same recipes for the two keepers of secrets...
Finished two marines today:
95538

Finished some filthy xenos for a friend tonight, cant wait to smash then under tank tracks !

Well that IS a greater daemon .
also i am still quite astonished in regards to the titan feet
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot gentlemen ! The second one is progressing nicely, and I may or may not have bought files for a third big keeper...Because why not.
But today, I have terminators to show :
And the whole squad :
122359
Post by: tzurk
Beautiful work as always KT.
Termies look great all together, and the pink skin of the KoS really stands out. You're onto a winner with this army mate - keep it up!

Oh cool that sheme works really well
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot folks, glad you approve. I'll have to make more purple marines then !

Post by: Ragsta
Lovely purple tones on those juggernauts, I like the tonal change on their shoulder pads too.
116601
Post by: Syro_
So many lovely additions to your chaos forces, as usual. I can't remember if I asked this already but how long do you think it would take to set up all of them for a group shot? Would we be able to see one by the end of the year?
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot Folks !
@Syro_ : Last army shot was from the end of 2020, so I guess I could make a yearly habit out of this ^^ ! I should try to finish the titan by then in that case...
https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1380/648864.page#10984509
116601
Post by: Syro_
Oh I remember those pics! It's nice to see them again. What a great looking army. If it's not too much work, it would be great to make the group shot a yearly thing. Good luck on that titan either way.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
I'll try to set it up for the end of the year yeah, this leaves me a few months to find a place large enough to accommodate the army ^^
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
And finished my second keeper this morning, although I definitely need to rework my lighting setup, the top of the model is badly overexposed....
And here are the two keepers...Is it enought keepers ? I'm not sure that this is enought keepers...
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
I kinda like ther armored one more?
nice job on the lower left claw especially.
306
Post by: Boss Salvage
Yea, I like the new ( CC-inspired) keeper over your first ( GW-inspired) keeper, both the sculpt and how hard you went on the fluorescent
95538

Not to give you any crazy ideas... but Slaanesh's sacred number is six....
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Ahahah, I might very well do that yes, plus now I can say this was your idea ^^. Finding four more keepers I like should be a piece of cake...Wit, just finished printing number 3...
116601
Post by: Syro_
Cool, I'm looking forward to seeing number three and how you bring it to life with paint.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks Syro !
Just finished painting this navigator:
119289

95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks Not online, I do love (and abuse) these colours
Thanks a loa Llamahaed, yeah, I am indeed in love with oil paint, and they should adapt well to all the weird textures I love to have on models...
Finished a renegade guard taurox today:
And with the basilisk from the same range:
306
Post by: Boss Salvage
That's a really cool eevil APC design, and I'm reminded how legit the basilisk version is
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Very adorable APC
but where's the corresponding infantry`?
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot gents ! @Not online, very good point. Infantry is coming in the next prints, I already have 10 lunar auxilia soldiers waiting. I'll of course need more...
90488
Post by: The Riddle of Steel
Nice job on the renegade Taurox. You captured the chaos militia look with the paint. And the navigator sure turned out nicely.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot The Riddle of Steel !
@Not Online, I realise I responded to your inquiry about my infantry with a "Don't worry buddy I have ten dudes." You do not say that to a renegade guard commander. Of course I shall build more, much more ^^.
As an apology, a picture of a cat.
306

What an adorable kitten, congrats!

Well i mean it depends, normally when your own zone isn't full with bodies you did something wrong, but then again renegade grenadiers were thing
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Allright, and here is the final model before I go back to assembling stuff: the court of the fallen empress of mankind. That was kind of a big one to assemble...
306
Post by: Boss Salvage
UNEXPECTED O_O That's particularly bonkers, Kernel. Did you assemble the court from different sculpts, or is that a set someone has made? Guessing the floating dais is pure Terror
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Awesome.
That thing is positively huge and absolutely well executed
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot folks !
@Boss Salvage, it is an home made thing, although many parts are 3d printed, the wings are from a plastic griffin as well as some silver tower dudes. The hull is made from the usual wire and root tentacles, a 3d printed dark mech abeyant hull, while the floor is made in clay...But worked with a 3d printed texture roll ^^.
As for the member of the courts, they are from a bunch of different makers, I count 8 of them. The big purple demon is possibly ripped from a game, but I am not sure...
Was a fun thing to put together, especially the final placement of every model on the platform. Glad you approve !
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Allright, nothing left to paint, thankfully, the printer's been busy these last weeks:
More slaanesh goodness, starting with a DP sigvald, but with a prettier face
A demon demon rider
Yet another keeper of secret, with a snake body this time
A smiling sorceror
Some more wenos scum for a friend
Some weird looking and too tall sisters I found in a kickstarter, but I find them oddly disturbing. Should make some nice greater possessed. SoBs have greater possessed right ?
And been too long since I painted some BFG, so here comes a transport
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
More models assembled today, with this thing:
Also, another thing
Also corrupted sisteds first this big one:
Then a more standard one, with a downsized noise marine helmet
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Makes me wish i went through with a 3d printer... but where to put it ..
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
@NotOnline : Yeah, these thing do need a good place to setup easy to clean and ventilate. A garage or a shed is ideal, but I know of some people that use them on a balcony, with a gardeing tent for protection and insulation... Some people also setup some hardcore venting for use in their living rooms, but that would not be something I'd be comfortable doing. More things assembled today, starting with this big demon Some ships More sisters A topless plague marine And a great unclean one
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Today was infantry day, starting with a bunch of lunar auxilia
Then some gasmask in morion dudes
And also, some sort of slime
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
Ah the Morion, Good choice
Also it seems now that you get the actual numbers to hold something
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Ahaha yeah, might need a couple more bodies though.
So, here are a couple more bodies:
Also assembled a second centaur demon, don't they make a lovely couple ?
A nurse with a gasmask
I big nun battlesuit
Some guy with a stick
And some cyborg shock troopers
116601
Post by: Syro_
Wow Kernel, that court of the Empress of Mankind is an absolutely beautiful centerpiece. Looks amazing
It's fun seeing all the new additions as well.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot Syro_, glad you approve this heresy !
Today I assembled a gunship !
Also some sisters with heavy flamer, since thie galaxy ain't gonna burn itsself
And a melta showoff
Some more sisters from raging heroes
Some cherubs from rotten factory to go with the sisters
A sniper from raging heroes
And a sniper from Rotten Factory
A navy commander
And finally, a bit more troops
95538

Yes, yes it is Cool prints KT, curious about the robo snake killer thing.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
I'll have to take pictures of it once primed then ^^
It is based on the heroes infinite Xen AI from their cyberpunk release, with replaced guns and chainsaws for extra grimdarkness, and the back of a blight drone.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Allright, started another oversized BFG project, based on an old aquarium pump support and two car phone holders...
Aside from that, did some priming, so here are some already posted models, but now with pictures that are not a green mess !
119289
Post by: Not Online!!!
That comes along nicely, especially like the two lower models.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks Not Online ! They have a pretty smile right ?
Finished and primed more models today:
The killer snake lady robot from earlier
A chaos navigator, because printing an actual medusa and replacing all the snake heads with greenstuff eyes was a great idea
The triumph of saint catherine
A squid
Some poser eldars
A bastard rogue trader:
Some noble
Flying daemonettes
And a sonic knight !
95538

95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot Gwyn !
To be fair, I did still the idea from word bearers though ^^.
Finished a BFG transport yesterday

Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks Captain Facebeard ! They are yes, I used price august magenta fluo then a layer of oil paint. Thing is, they are problematic to catch on camera, with my usual black background, it looked like this Which I think is more pleasing to the eye, and closer to irl colors, but makes the axe and some other parts way overcasts... I need to rework both my lighting and my background I think...

I may have further plans for the knights yeah. Basically I see them as inquisitorial henchmen. These ones were left untouched, but I'd like to convert some as inquisitorial servitors, like with flamethrowers, interrogation tools, and probably some kind of steampunk power backpack....

Cracking stuff going on here Kernel.
Loving the morions, very characterful, and the squid lady is lovely. Really want to see where that squid engine ends up.
The shots of your titan body really made me think that in place of a head there should just be one great eye on that socket.
Great unclean one looks fabulous, excellent work on using the vibrant colours.
Top honours go to the court of the fallen empress, outstanding work.

Thanks a lot Monkeytroll ! Good idea on the single eye, I'll keep it in mind when I get to it. Tbh I had a plastic piece that would do a great titan plague doctor head...But it might be too large though. Finished Also printed myself a female fulgrim. We live in amazing times. Pretty snazzy looking vikings Kernel, green+gold+brown is always a nice combo.
I like your golden Knights in previous posts - the dirty burnished gold gives them a fallen-from-grace kinda look, very uncouth looking fellows.
The red on the Sisters armour is also very impressive - the extreme dark to vivid red highlights looks great.

Those Noise Marines are lovely (to the extent that any Chaos Marine can be "lovely," anyway).
I have to ask: how do you manage to finish so many models? I'm lucky to finish four or five a month, but you do that many or more every week.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
Thanks a lot JoshInJapan, quite happy with these noise marines to bo hosnest.
Not sure about my painting rate, sometimes I feel I'm not painting models as fast as I'd like, but I did find a balance at which it is not frustrating. Here is how I rationalized the thing anyway:
- I work in cycles. First I print, paint an assemble everything I want to work on, then I prime it all, and I start painting, trying to complete it all before I add anything to the backlog. For this reason, at some times of the year I finish models quite fast, but only because they are all ready to be painted, and I had time to think of the paintscheme month in advance. These noise marines were for example assembled in august.
- I place this hobby in the middle of the living room, literally. I have two young children, and they take a lot/most of my free time, which is as it should be. But I figured that hobby time should be something shared. So I sat up my painting station in the middle of the living room, with movable trays, one for oils and one for acrylics, and some paint racks. It is not by any means a perfect painting station. I drop models on the floor, I have to hide bit boxes from the youngest one, but nonetheless, I can paint everyday without cutting away from the family life and still talk to my loved ones while doing it. Plus, my older son starts to really know how to paint a space marine ^^. If I was to setup a perfect paint desk, it would be in the basement, and I would not sit it as often as I do now. Plus, I get to see the next model in line everyday, helping me to get 'in the mood/find the paintscheme for it' days in advance.
- I give up on things that are unpleasant. I realized at some point that I spend waaay to much time painting models when they did not ring any bell in me, when they were just chores I added to my painting queue. Since not so long ago, I have started just discarding models, and condemning them to be bit box fodder. In my experience, lots of the time spent painting a model is spent finding the exact color scheme that will work, the proper mixes that will do the job. Often enough, I realized that If I did not hav a particular feel with how I wanted to go with a model, I was better off ditching the model and moving on to a model I really cared for (and maybe coming back later on)(And I realize how smug this might sound coming from someone with a 3d printer. but really, ditching a model worth 5€ of resin+electricity even if it is a primarch, is liberating).
- I try to be happy with imperfection (And this is an heresy coming from and Emperor's Children's fanboy), but well, the noise marines above are my third try at noise marines. They probably will not be the last, but they are the first that I am happy with. However, the two previous squads taught me a lot, and I am happy to have completed them, and given them each time afterwards to let the teachings dig in, making the next iteration better. Still, each time I finished a squad, I was happy to call the job done and to move on to another project, even if I knew that there was some stuff somewhere to be reworked.
That is it, sorry for the wall of text, just a couple of saturday evening thoughts of finding time for hobby !

Wow, another nifty set of models.
Thanks for sharing your painting process. I also try to prioritize family time over hobby time, without sacrificing the latter. I do most of my hobby stuff in the early morning, before everyone else wakes up, but occasionally I get some work done while everyone else is watching TV after dinner. I envy your ability to just set aside what you're not enjoying-- I always feel half-finished models staring at me and making me feel guilty for not finishing them.
95538
Post by: KernelTerror
My pleasure ! Regarding giving up on model, I realized that it was easier to do in two steps. If at some point in the paintjob/sculpting it starts being annoying, or going somewhere I cannot save, I leave it aside while I mode to more pleasant models. Then when I have no more assembled model to paint, I see when I get back to the discarded ones. Sometimes it means paintstripping and restart, some other times (not that often thankfully ^^) I realize that the thing is better of sent back to the bit box.
I just realized you had your model count for 2021 in signature, so I counted them as well, and an early morning count on a single picture gave me a total of 98 models for 2021. So in the end, our processes must have quite close performance ^^.

Thanks a lot Boss ! This is indeed one of Evanogainen's sonic weapons, scaled down to fit this knight...And my build plate...
I encourage you to go forward with printing a big one like that, this one "only" took me seven plates of my small photonS. Still acceptable if you manage to get a print running during the night, clean it up before work and start another for the day.
Plus, with big builds like that there is always spare room to fit infantry or BFG ships inbetween two giant armour plates...
