Primed and began painting my IG box as well as dry brushed my new Zone Mortalius bases and stuck my Angels of Absolution minis on them (25mm as it's easier to navigate Mantic terrain with smaller bases) Also put more put White tack in the connecting holes of my Mantic walls. Tried to get the white tack out of my test wall, and was harder than I thought it'd be so that's going to be fun to do after I prime them etc lol

Thinking up new orky/grot conversions.
See, in our ongoing Crusade games, when i win a game my grots loot defeated enemies.
So if the opponent had some cool vehicles or other techy stuff in thier force, & I kill the unit & win the match, then I incorporate that stuff into my own force.
Last night I obliterated an Admech force.
This yielded all sorts of cool tech/bitz....
Notably a Dune Crawler, Kataphrons, & a unit of those winged Skitari guys.
So now I'm pondering what weird stuff I can make using these kits.

More work on my IG minis; five out of ten are finished; they just need basing. I am looking forward to finishing them as I feel having an IG option for potential people at my potential skirmish gaming club is pretty important. And I dunno; when I finish them, it feels like it'll be a milestone for me as I finally have some IG painted. I've always loved the faction due to the Gaunt's Ghosts books (which I still have yet to finish as well, lol).
I also made a list of my pile of shame. It's still long even after my obsessive work on it for the past few weeks (38 different items, at least, including numerous different squad units and two Wave Serpents, this is excluding the crap-ton of terrain I've got to do, as well), But this hasn't phased me at all, which is cool, I suppose.

After doing next to nothing yesterday due to being unwell, I knuckled down and completed (mostly) My IG, and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, next on to my Traitor Guard from the Blackstone Fortress box. Just gotta base them (my least favourite part of the hobby, but it's an important one). Speaking of basing, I also based my Adeptus Custodes today. Here are some pics; I think the bases might need a little something extra, though. Any ideas? The Custodes with the open arms was inspired by the cover of the HH short story collection The Imperial Truth, where one of the Custodes is talking with another and gesticulating animatedly, except with a very different colour scheme (been listening too much to Lovecraft audiobooks lately, lol) It also kinda looks like he's going 'Come at me!'

Having a bit of a writersblock (not literally, apparently.. because I've been writing a new chapter in my second book of 'the journal of Leopold Helveine' again.. after half a year hiatus) after finishing the Tyrannofex (see my blog)..
Have three Raveners on my table but low-motivation to work on them.. also still 10 gargoyles and 10 minespores to finish up painting..
Also still got 4 harlequins and an eldar support weapon to paint standing on it.. and a head (for my wraithknight) to sculpt. (rest of WK is finished already though, fully painted).. thing is .. I kindof wanted to do some Orks again but once you start that its hard to stop and I've got like 7or 8 unopened Ork boxes, Morkanaut included so that would swamp me. Better to first finish what's on the table. Right? Thing is.. I need to alternate to break boredom working with the same hue's all the time..

Definitely not thinking about starting a lizardmen army.
Its why I'm absolutely not doing research on Sagebrush and Western Fence lizards and the blue flairs on their bellies.
https://www.deschuteslandtrust.org/news/blog/2018-blog-posts/western-fence-lizard
https://www.nps.gov/yell/learn/nature/sagebrush-lizard.htm
The sagebrush has an easier pattern to paint on the back scales, and the color dimorphism between males and females on the belly could easily lend itself to different types of lizards in the army.

Began working on my Traitor Guard and got all but four finished. I also began basing my loyalist IG; I'm still happy with how they turned out, even if I frigged up the faces of a few due to the angles and awkward spaces, but they're just meant to be 'table ready', so I'm not fussed. What surprised me was that I painted their armour Castellan Green then edge-highlighted them with Warpstone Glow (one of my favourite Citadel paints) And it turned out quite well!

Been taking a break from my Thousand Sons and got back into scale modelling.
Bought a 1/350 scale battleship, and a set of photoetch brass upgrades...because I hate myself that much...
This piece in particular is a stepladder, which has to be folded from a flat brass sheet, and each, individual step manipulated into place with tweezers.

I finished my Traitor Guard, batch painted the final four which wasn't much fun. I batch painted my 14 of 15 Chaos Cultists from Assassinorum: Execution Force a while back and I don't know how I did it lol. I think if I'm doing a squad I'll do them one by one and maybe batch paint the final two (which I did with my last two IG which I'm still basing)
I began work on an Apothecary for my Dark Angels and my new Scale 75 white paint is making it much easier than GW white paints.

My 30x22 Zone Mortalis mats arrived today from Skirmish Mats, along with a whole lot of other things, because my town was stranded due to a few slips that happened during a recent storm. So I had a game of Space Station Zero with a 30x22 mat instead of my Necromunda tiles which were 25x25; it worked a bit better, so I might begin a new single-player campaign with 30x22 (I have the mats from both Octarius and Nachmund, but I wanted immersion of a floor that looks like it's in a Space Station rather than ground) I rolled a lot of critical failures, like five times or something, with three in a row or so, but managed to win without any real casualties.
Also did quite a bit more work on my Gaunt's Ghosts. A little happier with how they look so far.

I really thought that the colour scheme for our Necrons (silver and red) would be super fast to paint until I got to the bigger ones and having to do multiple shades of silver to break up all the bigger areas takes way more time than I thought.

Almost finished basing my Ghosts, including glueing on grass tufts. Still, I realised that the paint was scratching off the bases, I must not have primed them on the bases when I first assembled and began painting them way back in 2019, so I went over them with Stormshield varnish, being careful not to get it on the tufts.

With almost finishing my Gaunt's Ghosts, I took a bit of a break today before finalising them, I think? Lol
I then began finally working on my Shadow Seer and Death Jester that I'd bought, assembled and primed months ago. I also used Scale 75's Birch paint instead of GW's Wraithbone for the beige bits, and it worked way better only took two or three coats instead of five or six. I'm happy with how he looks. Might one day take a few photos of my Harlequins. I'm pretty proud of the colour scheme; it has no motley diamonds, so it's easier to paint; it's quick and easy, but it still looks good. And, of course, I make sure to use a lot of Warpstone Glow, lol

Good luck with that, dude! I hope you manage that!
Back OT, more work on my Raloth Arlyandor mini; he's almost finished. I even painted a new head for him, using one of the Eldar heads from W Artel I bought months back, and it looks pretty good, I think. The mini of the Autarch with swooping hawk wings, power sword, and fusion pistol is such a great model that's a joy to paint. Soon gotta start painting the Emperor's Children Chaos Marine that was decapitated for the display base.

I tried to get the White Tack out of the connection holes of my Mantic wall parts and found it...much harder than I had hoped. So my father suggested I get the Dremel he gave me, get a part the same size and use that to push it out, which I did; it took a while but not anywhere near as long as it would've if I tried to do it manually. Thank goodness.
I also pushed more white tack into a few more things, then primed more wall parts with Lead Belcher ready for washing.
Then, I worked more on my Raloth Arlyandor mini, on his power sword and back banner, and began painting the decapitated Emperor's Children mini for the diorama base. Bright pink will be an interesting colour to paint, I think.

Boltgun seems to have been discontinued at some point.
And my last pot of it is all but petrified.
This is a problem as I'm trying to add a few new things to my ages old generic CSM force and I used BG as their base color.
Leadbelcher is to flat/dull.
"Iron Warrior" is a bit too dark - looks fine on my new 30k IW project.

My new 3d printed Angaran Chronicles minis arrived today, including an awesome D&D Void Spawn that I plan on using as a Jaroai for my Angaran Chronicles TT Skirmish game. Began painting them. Mostly finished Jelcine and began on Wilom. Looking forward to playtesting my game with them and hopefully soon! I'm thinking of having the game use 2d12s rather than 2d10s as it might add a bit more nuance to the game and might make the higher modifiers not be so overwhelming against lower modifiers!
124366
Post by: Adrassil
After finishing (mostly) my new Angaran Chronicles minis I began playtesting the TT Skirmish game trying out 2d12s and the new initiative system and, well, 2d12s seem to give the hordes a big advantage over individual characters with my horde rules, well, maybe. As there is a much higher average roll compared to 2d10s. I also kept forgetting things as my brain wasn't working well for some reason and I wasn't feeling well.
I tried another game with 2d10s and it seemed a bit more balanced but I should've tried it with the same layout of terrain, but I added some more so that helped my five-man elite team a lot against the 27-man horde team so I'll try it with 2d12s with the same layout as last next.
My mind was also better able to keep track of things due and so it was much more fun.

Quite a few things, more Mournfang Brown as I seem to use a lot of it a Custodes Combat Patrol box and a Blade Champion and some Orlock Wreakers for proxies for my Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish game. So I did a bit more work on my Orlock gangers and decided to try out the grey Speed Paint I ordered to paint my 2nd lot of Chaos Cultists from my 2nd Assassinorum: Execution box, but it turned out I had some black Speed Paint instead which I already have as Black Templar contrast paint. I was sure I ordered grey, but just checked my order and nope, I did accidentally order black Speed Paint instead, my bad lol Automatically Appended Next Post: More work on my Orlock Gangers base painting them with batch painting, which wasn't too bad. Then I began assembling my Blade Champion, I think he's a pretty cool mini.

Almost finished my Orlock Gangers I'm just going for table ready so not bothering with eyes or edge highlights, maybe one day will do that. Also finished the base of the Outside Spawn D&D mini I'm going to use for one of the Eldritch Abomination antagonists to my Angaran Chronicles series a Jaroai. Will have to playtest the scenario where one side is summoning the Jaroai while the other side is trying to stop the summoning ritual. That has to be one of the most fun scenario I've played in my system so far.

After a few games of LotR yesterday I have finally finished* the Rohan side of the Pelinor Fields boxed set..
these sorry models have been waiting, near complete for a few months but have finally seen the base texture added and the paint to hair and facial hair on the 12 infantry and 12 riders
also repainted Theodin's horse so the hair wasn't bright yellow..
* I say finished, the bases need a wash & drybrush then the rims doing and tomorrow will see varnish added to stop the contrast pain rubbing off when there is movement within a radius of about a mile of the models

Practically finished my Jaroaian and Jaroaite priests for my Angaran Chronicles skirmish game which is a bit of a milestone for me as they're pretty important for playtesting the game and I've wanted to paint minis of them for ages.
Also a photo of one of the main antagonist eldritch abominations a Jaroai (which may or may not be its true form as they can shapeshift)
My friend drew a picture of one ages back and I loved it despite how different Jaroai looked in my head this mini, a D&D Void Spawn, looked very similar to his interpretation which is down here. He drew this based on a scene in an as-yet unpublished Angaran novella I sent him. It's so awesome!

Finished five total, so ten remain; they've been sitting around primed for ages; I guess they could be classified as my hobby, "White Whale", as the 1st lot I didn't enjoy painting at all, but it isn't too bad so far.

I finished my Cutists (yay!) Just gotta base them (boo! lol) Once that's done I might do a battle report here on Dakka Dakka of an Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish Game (working title) Could be the one where one side it attempting to summon a Jaroai while the other side is trying to prevent it.
One thing I might include in the scenario is that if the Jaroai is summoned (which is likely as the side preventing it has found it hard to stop in playtesting so far) If the side defending the summoning has mercenaries they will turn and try to kill it (if they aren't driven off by seeing it, or frozen in terror) Finally seeing the horrid creature they had no idea they were fighting to allow through the wall from "The Dimension Between Dimensions", that could be pretty cool.

@Captain Brown, that looks cool, mate!
Finished basing my Cultists/Jaroaian Extremists so that's a big part of my Pile of Shame done, now!
Also almost finished my newest Attelus Kaltos (who I've decided is the version of him before he was enhanced and before he was given his power sword by Karmen Kons) He could also be used as a mini for the Angaran Chronicles Skirmish character Alathis Setrin (who's basically a shameless rip-off of Attelus lol) I fixed up his face after frigging it up before so I'm pretty happy about that.
A few minis arrived today one of Berrk Ballacat from the Angaran Chronicles, Dellenger from Secret War and another version of Anargrin the latter of which I base painted ready for layering tomorrow, maybe? I dunno lol I was going to work on Berrk first but, naaahhhh lol

In preparation for my eventual Battle Report of a game of The Angaran Chronicles: The Skirmish Game (working title, maybe?) Of Anargrin and his team trying to stop the summoning of a Jaroai and it was close and fun. Anargrin’s team failed in stopping it from being summoned. And they almost killed it but they mercs who were hired to stop them saw the Jaroai and as I planned for the scenario turned against it. Despite the odds, the close combat horde passed their WP test to not run away and managed to finish it off under a deluge of pistol fire which definitely was against the odds. I also playtested the mechanic of 'charging' by jumping off an elevated position inspired by the part of Fellowship of the Ring when Aragorn jumps down on two Uruk Hai. That was pretty cool.

I began painting my Blade Champion and I'm enjoying it, each time I've painted my Adeptus Custodes it's been fun. They're just nice minis to paint in my opinion even if I could paint them in a far easier way (Eg: Prime them gold, wash them with Seraphim Sepia or Reikland Flesh Shade, then dry brush sliver, then paint the cloth and other stuff red)
I also high lighted Anargrin's hair and fixed him up a bit more, yeah, here's some photos, I suppose. I frigged up, though. Dumb old me didn't prime his base so the paint chips off pretty easily on the edges, I was hoping that applying varnish would protect it better, but nope! Live and learn, I suppose (HANGING ON THE EDGE OF TOMORROW! Sorry, some may get that reference, I guess lol)

These days I alternated between painting the first squad of two of Artel W not-Fire Dragons, as well as working on a scratch-built building for our Fallout Wasteland Warfare games.
The Fire Dragons are mostly Contrast paints so are somewhat simple, which is nice.
The building (a 3-story apartment building) is mostly completed now, putting some detail work on the outside staircase, and then should be ready to put some mix of paint+glue+sand on it for some light texturing and help seal the foam used on it. Then should be ready to paint!

A bit more work on my Blade Champion. Dropped one of his pauldrons on the floor and it disappeared into the aether where fallen miniature parts go to drive you insane like a Lovecraft protagonist in the fruitless bid to find them until the aether spits it back out weeks later for you to find it in a place you missed by the barest margins while you were searching for it (or in the most illogical place possible) I'm thinking of writing a short story about a shmuck like me trying to find a dropped miniature piece one day.
Sorry about the rant lol so I found a sprue of my Custodes Guardians and used a pauldron from that instead. He's quite close to being finished. The big part is his helmetless head which I'm always nervous to get started (I didn't start it today as I was too tired to paint skin as it's always a challenge for me even when mostly awake lol)

Completed my Blade Champion! A mini I really enjoyed painting. I might be a naysayer against GW but when I like what they do, I like what they do and the Custodes minis I've liked a lot so far! Although, I don't know why they decided to put him on a 40mm base which is over kill if you ask me. I was tempted to put him on a smaller base as if I ever get around to playing it'll be more likely One Page Rules than 40k but I decided just in case if I begin playing 40k again I'll put him on a legal base (he's super glued on so should wobble off if I ever want to change the base anyway)
Also begun painting my Spiritseer which is looking nicer than I thought it would in my Dalorsian colour scheme Automatically Appended Next Post: Practically finished my Spiritseer and began to assemble my 2nd Custodes squad which is a Custodian Guard squad.

Here's the Intro story.
Anargrin materialises from the shadows and, keeping low, looks into the lighted cavern the enemy had taken as their base of operations. It’s an ancient dwarven city broken by time as much as the battle that’d surely waged through it, but still quite intact even after millennia of breakdown, a testament to dwarven architecture. High above, the Dwarven lights had long ago died, but the new tenants had replaced them with their own. Anargrin could hear the chugging of diesel generators echoing through the close-knit streets. It wasn’t hard for Anargrin to locate where the enemy was due to the highest concentration of light. Not surprising as they didn’t know Anargrin and his team had caught wind of their plan, so subtlety wasn’t a high priority for them; this didn’t prevent them from hiring the aid of a gang to protect them.
Their plan, their damned plan. Anargrin couldn’t believe it; they were trying to summon a Jaroai. Bring one of those terrifying creatures into this world. And even if it wasn’t true, they still had to look into it. Anargrin had encountered one of those horrid things three years ago and fought one three years ago. It and its disgusting peons the Shalazquai, only briefly, but if he’d fought it, he’d have died alongside the six Hunters and the vampires he’d fought alongside. Only Anargrin, Emilia and Raleas had survived.
The thought of Raleas made Anargrin start; she’d lost her mind just by looking at the Jaroai before fainting away into sweet darkness as she laughed with insane glee. She hadn’t joined them then. She was a prisoner Anargrin had captured, a strong-willed soldier who was not mentally prepared for such a sight. Raleas knew their mission and insisted she was ready to face that horror again. But Anargrin couldn't help but doubt it, and he hoped, he almost prayed, they would be able to stop the ritual before its completion.
But he doubts it.
Swallowing, Anargrin pushes away such thoughts and slips into the shadows again. He had an enemy base to scout.
Raleas sighs as she sits on a rock and looks at her prized sniper rifle, fighting the urge to dissemble and reassemble it again. She shakes, and no matter how hard she fights to control it, she just can’t. Then her foot starts tapping on the floor.
‘Quit it, Raleas,’ says Jelcine; she sits with her back against the cave wall, even barely lit by the electric light, but her red dress and hat stand out. ‘You’re such a pain in the arse. You shouldn’t have come on this mission.’
Usually, Raleas would tell the Hunter to shut up but finds her throat almost clamped shut; she just looks at Wilom and Emilia. Both of them are uncharacteristically silent, their eyes fixed on the ground. Emilia wears her beautiful white dress and purple beret, both of that will soon be torn to shreds when she inevitably transforms into her werewolf form. Her golden hair is plaited and gorgeous; if Raleas cared about such things, she might be jealous.
Wilom, in his brown trench coat, seemed to shake even more than Raleas, his close-cropped red hair was usually impeccably combed and lacquered was messy, and from what little Raleas could see of his eyes, they were wide and dilated. Despite the Hunter-apprentice never encountering a Jaroai before, Raleas supposed that with all the propaganda about the Jaroai, the Hunters had told him he was bound to be terrified.
And Raleas knew that all of that propaganda was true.
She shuddered and glared at Jelcine; surely she could be more sympathetic? Surely-
Raleas’ train of thought is interrupted by Anargrin emerging from the darkness like he was being birthed by it. Raleas doesn’t flinch or raise her rifle; she just stands, she is used to his tendency for such an appearing act. His large, hazel almond-shaped eyes stared at her, and they watered with what seemed sympathy or, knowing him, empathy. His long brown hair is pulled into a ponytail allowing Raleas to admire his sharp, sculpted features easily. He seems even more pale than usual, even in the warm glow of the electric light. Like he saw a ghost or a-
‘Is it true?’ said Wilom asking the question they all needed to know. ‘Are they actually summoning a Jaroai?’
Anargrin doesn’t take his eyes off Raleas, but he answers. ‘Yes, I’m afraid so, Wilom.’
Raleas can’t help reel as a gasp escapes, but Raleas couldn’t know from whom. Maybe it was herself?
‘H-how?’ said Wilom. ‘How is that possible?’
Anargrin finally takes his gaze from Raleas, and it falls to the ground; he shrugs. ‘Who knows? With all the knowledge we’ve gathered over the centuries, there are still things we don’t know. Or will never know.’
‘How do you know it’s true, then?’ said Jelcine.
‘Because I saw the tentacles emerging from some sort of portal,’ sighs Anargrin. ‘We’ve seen those tentacles before.’
‘By Jaroai,’ gasps Emilia, unaware of the irony of using such a curse in this situation. ‘What are we going to do now?’
‘We stop it,’ says Jelcine.
‘B-but what if we can’t?’ says Wilom. ‘Y-you killed one, didn’t you, Anargrin? Five years ago? How did you kill it exactly?’
‘I didn’t kill it,’ says Anargrin. ‘There was no way I could. It died only after I manipulated the artillery barrage on its location, a barrage that lasted two hours. We were just lucky it was in a war zone.’
Raleas would've liked to tell him it wasn’t lucky because that war zone was in her country. The nation of Zathar, but she couldn't even think straight as her head was spinning too much.
Wilom hisses through clenched teeth and runs his hand through his hair. ‘So, if we fail-’
‘We won’t fail, Wilom,’ says Jelcine. ‘Now, we are wasting time! We have to attack now! What are the forces lined up against us, Anargrin.’
Anargrin nods. ‘For once, I agree with you, Jelcine. We’ve got ten Jaroaite Extremists with sub-machine guns, a Priest, and ten locally hired thugs, five with pistols and combat knives. Five with submachine guns.’
Anargrin looks at Wilom. ‘Will you be okay, Wilom?’
‘Yes, I think so,’ says the Hunter-apprentice with a rapid nod. ‘I can do this.’
Anargrin studies him for a few seconds before nodding back. ‘Alright, you three get moving. I will talk to Raleas.’
Wilom, Emilia and Jelcine all turn their attention to Raleas, much to Raleas’ annoyance.
‘Go, guys,’ says Anargrin, and the trio hesitantly moves. ‘Wait at the cavern entrance, and we’ll catch up soon.’
Anargrin approaches Raleas, locks his eyes with hers and places a palm on her shoulder.
‘Raleas, you must realise you will be looking at that thing through your rifle’s scope, and this time you won’t be able to faint away. Are you sure-’
Raleas grimaces as anger eclipses her anxiety, and she snatches up her rifle. ‘I am sure!’ she says. ‘I will be fine, and don’t you dare ask me that question ever again!’
Anargrin seems to become lost in her gaze as Raleas becomes lost in his; a few seconds pass, but it feels like hours before a small smile crosses his face. ‘I see you are, and I won’t. Let’s go, then.’
He turns to walk away, but Raleas calls out his name, making him halt and look back at her.
‘I never thanked you for saving me from the Jaroai back then,’ says Raleas. ‘You had no reason to save me and-’
‘Raleas, I had plenty of reasons to save you besides it being the right thing to do. You have proven that ten-fold since we started working together. And you have no need to thank me, now come on! Time is wasting away.’

Finished assembling my Custodes and began painting my mini of one the antagonists of my novel The Angaran Chronicles: The Underside, berrk Balacat. He's a real psychopathic bad guy and ultra double douche so I thought about how I could paint him to convey how much of douche he is so what's more douchy than one of those black t-shirts with a white bow tie and white where the buttons are? Well, I tried it with his real bow tie and it actually doesn't look too bad, dammit lol.

Almost finished, Berrk. I was thinking of making his blond hair blond, but I'm keeping it Averland Sunset. I'm happy with how evil and douchey he looks, lol. I glued my recently assembled Custodes to 40mm bases, as GW says so; even though my Wardens fit well on 32mm bases, I guess I have to rebase them. It's my fault for neglecting to keep the bases with the minis when I assemble them. I also began assembling my Proxy Wars version of Baharroth and Swooping Hawks. Really, really nice minis. With them and the Proxy Wars version of Fire Dragons, I'll have all of the Aspect Temples except for the Forge World one.
124366
Post by: Adrassil
Couldn't do too much today but I did manage to assemble six of my Proxy Wars Swooping Hawks, though (it was the same with my Artel W Warp Spider minis). It's great as there are six minis in each pack so five Aspect Warriors+Exarch so if you want to have either two squads of five or one squad of ten including an Exarch in each it's easier than if you get five total including an Exarch. So eg, if you want to run a ten-woman squad of GW Howling Banshees you have to make one of the ten an Exarch and the nine remaining as normal Aspect Warriors or you magnetise one of the Banshees to change her into an Exarch for two five-women squads each with an Exarch. Jeez, sorry that was a roundabout way of saying that. I wish GW sold boxes of six minis for Aspect warrior squads. It might even make the 105 NZD Banshee box a little more worth the exorbitant price lol

Practically finished my Custodes and just began basing them. Also primed and zenithal highlighted my Swooping Hawk proxies; they're amazing minis, but they can't stick together well; the arms and wings seem to fall off at the lightest touch. Would pin them, but their arms are so tiny. I think I've finally managed to get them properly together, though. Here's hoping.

This evening I made 20 easy-to-read pin counters foe Bolt Action.
Even dry brushing the tiny #s on the official BA pin markers white, they were still too small for me to read.
So I mounted those pin markers on 20mm Litko life counters.
Problem solved.

I began painting a test mini of my first six-man Swooping Hawk squad (splitting them into two different temples for skirmish play), and the mini has been a joy to paint so far. I was tempted to write a whinging review on Etsy about how much trouble I had assembling them, but I decided to wait until I painted them and am glad I did now, as it'll be a much more balanced review!

Being a Patron of One Page Rules, I've been playing with their new Army Forge Studio in a bid to make Inquisitor Enandra's Private Forces from Secret War, and it's been pretty fun. I'm not a big fan of the "Human Inquisition" faction they have and endeavoured to make them more like how I see the Inquisition. I made Attelus Kaltos, and he's so expensive! Like 480 points, lol, but the stuff I gave him fits him well. I really look forward to giving the rules a go when I can!

Opened a package delivered this morning, now have 02 Hundred Hours, with the Defenders of Facility 9 expansion.
stuck together the 8 German sentries for the first mission and primed them, aim is painted for Saturday.
nice models, only minor quibble being how the SMG magazine pouches really don't fit well on the bodies at all, flat on the back where they needed to be sculpted to fit individual bodies. No real harm though, just left them off. otherwise very nice, easy to assemble and thoughtfully places sprue connections

I've almost finished my Proxy Wars Fire Dragons and having fun experimenting with 'Slap Chopping' zenithal highlighting from the side and using Contrast paints, most specifically Flesh Tearers Red and Blood Angels Red going over the dark side with Flesh Tearers and the light side with Blood Angels and wet blending them together where the coloured meet and it looks pretty good. It's quick and easy, but I do prefer using classic acrylics, in all honesty.
I also did some more experimenting, trying to develop a quick and easy way to paint power blades that looks good, as every technique I've seen online requires a lot of glazing and such. So far, my "technique" is that I paint the Caledor Sky, then blob on a lot of Drakenhof Nightshade, then free-hand lightning with white paint, but now I'm trying dry brushing and to works well on the swords like the Custodes ones. So, uhh yeah.

Got around to building a more recent kit from my backlog this evening.
Hexbane's Hunters.
Nice models, some cut up into really strange pieces.
The odd thing about them is the plastic they're cast in - a light Grey that's softer than virtually any other GW kit I've built in recent years. Detail on the figures is ok, but also not quite as crisp as other recent GW stuff.

With all my Aspect Warriors finished, I became a little lost on what to do next. I was tempted to assemble my Chaos Space Marines but remembered I needed more terrain, so I began assembling my Necromunda Gangstronghold. Mostly because I couldn't find my Octarius Terrain. I had a playtest of Grimdark Future: Fire Fight playing a scenario where one side besieges my big Mantic building. Using recently made rules I did in the Army Builder app on the website of Attelus Kaltos from Secret War and a few of his team (Adelana Helgen, Karmen Kons and Marcel Torris) they have to survive 4 turns before being extracted by Guncutter. The besiegers were made up Chaos Cultists Led by a Chaos Marine. Attelus and his team came out smelling roses, Attelus being the only one wounded due to being lodged in Close combat. I had both sides at 300 points so I might try to balance it out with the siegers getting up to 500 points that might balance the scenario a bit more. I decided if I'm going to use Grimdark: Firefight as my main game at my TT Skirmish Club (for now, atleast) I have to learn the rules first lol.
Also made eight 300 point Grimdark: Firefight lists for the games next week. I hope it won't be too hard to teach several people playing games at once. Wish me luck!

Spent the evening assembling 50-some Skaven, mostly clan rats, from the old WHFB Isle of Blood (or whatever the elf/skaven starter was called) set.
Judging by the contents I found in a shoe box, it looks like I'd traded/bought 2 complete Skaven halves at some point around 2017*
Combined with a handful of other misc Skaven stuff I have, I'd guess I can now field around 1500pts.
*2017 was a really bad year as Dad spent much of it critically ill & dying in Hospice. And then there was dealing with the estate.... Over the past few years I've found several other hobby projects that were started, shelved, & forgotten about in all that chaos/grief/etc.
The good news is that my 2023 project of finally building a proper Skaven army just got ALOT cheaper.

Been teaching myself Grimdark Future: Firefight with a scenario I made myself of characters being besieged. I made rules for a few of my Secret War main characters in the Army Builder app from One Page Rules. I ran the scenario a few days ago, with both sides having 300 points. This time the Attackers had 500 points. Still, it was much more one-sided for the defenders despite the attackers outnumbering the defenders by a considerable margin. The defenders are Attelus Kaltos (the dude with the powersword), Adelana Helgen (the redhead girl). Karmen Kons (the Blonde and a psyker) and Marcel Torris. It was fun; the defenders had to last until the end of the fifth turn, and it was hard yakka for the defenders. I lost Attelus due to some very lucky rolling of the attackers and never passing a Regeneration roll (which is OPR's version of a Feel No Pain/Invulnerable Save). He did manage to take down a Chaos Space Marine and several Traitor Guardsmen and Cultists before he went down. One particular Guardsman had incredible luck, working to take a wound off Attelus and Karmen despite hitting on 5's and 6's, respectively, having a single shot and no AP on his rifle. He was the MVP of their side, that's for sure.
On the fifth turn, I lost Karmen due to a lucky meltagun shot (or a "Fusion Rifle", as it's called in OPR). Only Adelana and Torris managed to survive and escape (luckily, Attelus is a Perpetual, so he'll be back, but Karmen, well, this can't be canon as she isn't immortal, and it's set between Secret War and Secret War: Upon Blood Sands and she's alive and breathing, and Attelus didn't "die" between three year time skip either so... lol. Had fun! Might play a more traditional game of Grimdark Future: Firefight soon too.

After seeing those photos of Attelus, I decided to fix him up a bit.
I also played another game of Grimdark Future: Firefight, this time using the standard rules. It was "Elf Fleets" (Eldar) vs "Havoc Brothers" (Chaos or Chaos Cultists led by a Chaos Marine).
With the Eldar being outnumbered more than three to one, I thought they'd get wiped out, but the game was a complete curb stomp to the Eldar. They suffered no fatalities and won, having more objectives at the end (doing the straightforward scenario of whoever owns the most objectives by the end of the 4th turn wins). The "Not-Warp Spider Exarch" was MVP, as he slaughtered at least five Cultists single-handed.
I also did a bit more work on Arken's new mini. Dotted the eyes, so to speak lol.

I made the canon Gaunt's Ghosts minis in Grimdark Future and GF: Fire Fight with the One Page Rules Army Forge Studio. It was fun! I made sure to give the options of Veteran Infantry, Fearless, Regeneration and a few other things only to the characters who survived the Gereon mission and the option to give Gaunt the Sword of Hieronymo Sondar. They all have Stealth because due to their camoleoline cloaks.
I also had an idea to make four GFF lists at 150 points each so the kid can play half a list each on the same side in one game on Wednesday, so it'll be easier to teach them instead of two games running at once.

Planning a big game this summer to end 9th edition (3v3, 2k per players), and I decided to gear up for some gunline-type list with my Nids (I expect movement to be clogged up fast so I could just sit back and shoot whatever).
With that I realized that a lot of my (big) shooty unit are not painted. So I'll have to crank it up and start painting!
I did some last minute modification to my two Tyrannofexes. The guns are magnetized, but hard to swap (easy when not painted and rubbing everywhere). So I modified the bases and magnetized the model itself to the base, making everything much much more manageable! Plus the base and the underside of the model will be much easier to paint too!
I then glued the sand on what was needed: the aforementioned Tyrannofex base, a trio of Warriors, and one metal Carnifex, 3rd edition one. Went out tonight and primed the Tyrannofex base, the Carnifex and one Warrior. It was getting cold at this hour and still raining, so did wanted to push my luck more for tonight.

I began applying washes to the buildings in my last post and finished two of them, the ruined mansion and the pillbox, but the vendor wasn't quite done; for that, I used Reikland Flesh Shade, and it worked well. It looks like it's in a desert or something. I would've done more, but it was very humid today, so drying time on even acrylic paint was very slow indeed. I then plugged in the dehumidifier, which helped a bit. I also cranked out the airbrush for the first time in ages and, again, would've done more, but the battery ran out, and I couldn't find the recharge cord. Maaan, I wish I was more tidy and organised some of the time...hell...wish I was most of the time lol

A couple of minis delivered I bought from Etsy a few weeks back. A Lelith Hesperax proxy mini that's part of a diorama of her stabbing a Chaos Space Marine through the chest. The second is a proxy of Eisenhorn, and it's an excellent mini better than the GW version of Eisenhorn. The only problem being is his mouth is very undefined. I primed, and Zenithal highlighted him, and it helped a bit. Also rebased Attelus and his team onto Zone Mortalis bases instead of Infinity ones, as they are from 40k. As well as re-glued a few things.

I tried chipping for the first time. I used chipping fluid on a very damaged Japanese Zero I did a while back but the fluid has it's pros and cons. For this 1/48 Challenger 2 I decided to paint the chips by hand. Was helped by the fact that this modern British tank wouldn't be as chipped as a WWII Soviet machine for example. I sponged on a lighter coat of the basecoat then filled them in with Vallejo Dark Rust.
The overall effect is pretty impressive in person, I hope the camera managed to catch it.

I've been pretty slack with miniature stuff lately, but I did a bit today. Assembled a Farseer proxy mini I got from Etsy and then began painting the bases of Attelus Kaltos and company, then fixing them up, as well as my GW Lelith and began painting the Hero Forge mini of Dellenger from Secret War; Using my new pair of magnifying glasses I bought from Neat and Handy with the 3.5x magnification glass and a mounted flashlight that'd arrived a couple of days ago and boy oh boy it makes a huge difference it helped me fix eyes and parts I'd missed earlier easily. Really happy with them.

Well the plan was to build a Plague Furnace, make some Skaven movement trays, & pull/print some BTech sheets....

More progress on Dellenger; his mini looks pretty much exactly how I imagined he looked like. I also realised he looks like Archer from...well...Archer. Should make Dellenger start saying DANGERZONE from time to time, lol. I also fixed up an Attelus Kaltos mini that I'd frigged the face of earlier with the new magnifying glasses. It allowed me to fix him a lot. Too bad he fell off my painting handle and broke on the floor pretty badly. I glued most of him back together, but there are a few slivers I can't find.

I liked how my Urbanmech from last night turned out well enough that I decided to paint up a random lance mate for him.
A Scorpion mech.
The Urbie just happened to be in a bitz box I'd been sorting. It & the paint were both present on the work table at the same moment.
The Scorpion? That I had to intentionally open the BTECH cases for that one. Of all the unpainted mechs I own, I've NO idea why I selected a Scorpion....
In the coming days I will paint up 2 more random mechs in this scheme for a complete lance.

Almost finished Dellenger and began another old Attelus mini that's been sitting around for ages, mostly his face. But I dropped Attelus while painting him and broke his sword, and couldn't find the blade no matter how much I looked. Made me demoralised but then I got an idea, so I clipped off what remained of the blade and replaced it with the blade of a power sword from the Dark Angels veteran box, and I'm happy with how it turned out, much closer to the sword Attelus wields in the art I drew of him. Then I did a bit of base painting on him.

Finished Attelus I just put a matt varnish on him a while ago. He could use a little more work but right now just leaving him for a while. I assembled (mostly) my pair of Warlocks and I'm a little annoyed with the kit as it makes it you have to give one a Witch Blade and one a Singing Spear, would've liked to been able to give both either, especially because it's such an expensive kit. So if you want two with Witch Blades or two with Singing Spears you have to buy two boxes at $114 NZD. Luckily Gap Games sell it for $69.99 AUD. Though I might go to Etsy for similar models, I think. Still nice sculpts, will give the one with a Singing Spear a bare head to represent Klrith from Secret War.

Oh no, dude. That's frigged, hoping it heals soon!
My father and I moved stuff around my hobby room today and it's a much better layout. I then tried to reassemble broken parts on minis (which is VERY frigging fun, indeed!) and a few other minis including trying to finish my Warlocks and...I don't know who designed how they were assembled but they did a bad job. The legs are glued on a little indent with a nub inside the cloak skirt and...when one doesn't glue properly it's crazy annoying how hard it is to stick back on when the mini is mostly assembled.

I did some priming and fixed a few resin mini-bits with boiled water. Then began painting a Farseer proxy mini I bought from Etsy; she's fun to paint, but, frig, she's a bastard to assemble.
I also haven't been happy with the face of my newest version of Attelus for a while; it's all scaly and lumpy underneath a particular light source. I did some research, and it might've been because I didn't wait long enough for the last coat to dry, so that the next one might've torn into the last one. So, I took a blunt knife and very carefully scrapped off the lumps and the scaly bits and much to my surprise, it worked! It's much, much better just gotta go back and fix up Attelus's face a bit. Quite happy about that.

Sitting around sidelined from doing most anything more usefull/entertaining thanks to a knee injury....
So I'm passing the time by color coding the bases of 120+ Skaven clanrats/Stormvermin/plague monks.
Each unit is based in a different district color - blue, green, red, etc.
This is temporary fix to solve sorting, units blurring together in play, etc. Once a unit is fully painted the base tops will be properly finished, leaving just the color coded rims.
The unit champion of each group is picked out with a Retributor Gold base top. (So as to avoid accidentally pulling them as casualties & screwing up issuing commands)
I'm not sure how I'll denote them once actually finished, but for right now I need them easily identified.

I'm not doing anything. My parents on the other hand are at Warhammer World.
Lucky them.

I've still never actually been, yoof has wandered that way a few times, its only about an hour to hour and a half from here depending on traffic, just that whenever the local group wandered there for a game I was doing this time consuming thing known as "work", largely due to very poor planning
yoof says its decent

I fixed up Attelus' face after massacring my boy yesterday, and...he looks great! Although...although! He kinda looks sad; he's standing on a big tactical rock...so anyway, he started BLASTIN' his autopistol with his trademark inaccuracy, but he looks like he's going to cry rather than looking badass. He's probably sad because he sucks at shooting, and no matter how much I try, he still looks like a sad boi :/
My Scale 75 "Luxury Collection" box arrived today, and I began using the wet palette inside it and boy...I love it; so much better than my makeshift one—just a joy to use. I also began painting one of my Warlocks too! And dark blue and dark green shouldn't work together, but it seems to...somehow. The sculpts are a joy to paint.

My Dad sent me a photo of my Mum posing next to the big Space Marine statue, with the double-headed eagle in the background.

Had the games night with the kids, and boy oh boy, was it crazy noisy and intense. We played Assassinorum: Execution Force, and it was fun, but a girl began hitting herself after she killed a cultist as the Callidus Assassin (I had my new Attelus as a stand-in as the mini broke and I couldn't repair her, unlike the Callidus he can go "invisible" due to Farseer Faleaseen's power), which I didn't know what to about, but she stopped, eventually.

Finishing my third and final scratch built tyranid mini tower, of three. Made from stacked 1” foam with hot glue slime and each mounted on an old CD.
Going to probably donate them to the flgs terrain collection since they will likely be used for the new edition games

I did a bit today; tried to use my airbrush to prime a couple of models using an airbrush primer paint, but the airbrush kept getting blocked; it's because some of the paint had hardened to little bits around the nozzle and maybe inside the bottle too. Also, more progress for my Warlocks; they're almost finished, which is cool.

Unpacking and repacking.
Unpacking miniatures that were still wrapped up from our last move.
Then reorganising my hobby cupboard.
Packing up projects that are not happening anytime soon. Then getting the projects that I want to work on next accessible and keeping the project that I'm busy with at hand

Am I allowed to lowkey vent a bit?
Hugely annoyed that a friend of mine who agreed to build me a rotation platform (for shooting videos with my big camera) now suddenly backed out..
I don't want to buy anything online because I don't trust the quality nor want to have to go roundabout refunding if its not what I ordered..
Flipping hell man, i just finally finished my custom sculped wraithknight head and glued it on the WK being now finished and was looking forward for making my first rotation-video (with that new platform) with that unit ASAP..
And now I gotto wait till tomorrow to talk to him again and insist that incase its the material costs .. IDC about paying double triple or quadruple the otherwise online cost, I just want that flipping rotation platform (again) ASAP..
Aaaargh!!
Also on a different note and tone..
Kitbash of my super special brawler HT is looking good, greenstuffed his wings to the upper back-vents (removed) and put some Fleshborer hives on his lower arms and will put the whip and big blade (most likely anyway, couldn't find anything else that really fitted this bash tbh, would've preferred the rifle looking gun but the tube arm no longer fits over the shoulders of the bottom arms ayyy) aaaand the head will be very special, kitbashed aswell suprisingly connecting with some parts I never imagined prior.
Lastly (almost forgot) I FINALLY have a good lightbox/photostudio with internal lightring so no more photography problems thank the Sun!

Had the Tabletop gaming night today. We finally finished playing Assassinorum: Execution Force which ended in the kids' victory; thanks to my advice Attelus went invisible behind the sorcerer and the Vindicare Assassin (who was being proxied by Larkin as I'd accidentally left the Vindicare Assassin mini at home) Hit him in the back for two out of three resilience then Attelus backstabbed the leader, missed. But the girl playing him used a poison blade token to re-roll and managed to kill the sorcerer. This was by the 10th turn, which is a quick game of Assassinorum. The kids had fun, which was the most important thing.
I did a little more work on my Lelith diorama and have been trying to siv the primer, but it hasn't been working well at all. Will try it another way later.

More progress on the not-Lucius the Eternal for the diorama. He's actually quite fun to paint was hesitant to start at first, unsure how to paint his armour, but I just lunged into it, and I'm happy with him so far. I also got sick of trying to re-glue my Callidus Assassin back on her foot, so pinned her on instead, and it looks okay. Might try to readjust her a bit; she is my 2nd favourite of the four main temples, so deserves more work!
