Hulk. Excellent.

If I recall, Thanos is removable and the throne has gameplay value. As terrain or a candidate for inflicting blunt trauma?

So not sure if it was the contrast paint or the primer, but I feel like I’m in an alternate universe.the high parts have the dark areas.

Time to try the old paint method now

Well, I’m actually glad it didn’t work out. I need to exercise my painting skills. It took a while and not done yet, but Hulk is looking so much better now. He almost glows.

Nuclear Hulk. What’s scary is I had another brighter green still set aside to go up more. Getting ready for work now. Probably won’t paint more till Christmas as I need to get the church ready for Christmas Eve service while still working at the hospital.

Second bout with the Hulk really paid off Theo! He is looking great, did you just paint over the contrast? I have found it can make for a good base then build up the layers from there.

Thanks, almost anything would have been better than the previous version.

I did just go over the contrast. I have found that contrast helps me see where the light changes should be.

Almost picked up black panther today. Waiting until after Christmas because I know there will be sales happening.

While at MM I ran into a guy I gamed with 20+ years ago. He was wrapping up a game of ASOIAF, got talking and might have been swayed into getting into that game . While I enjoyed playing with him all those years back (THE best bloodbowl game ever played I got to watch him make an unbelievable last move turn to win), I just don’t see myself being able to get another system and the time to play. I’ll probably go watch and at least meet up again inthe coming weeks.

@ Graven, true

Little bit of work on Hulkie.

Another brighter highlight added, some work on his pants, but I really don’t have many purple paints .

Went to Miniaturemarket today and played a pick up game of British vs. Pirates. It’s a hex based naval combat game in the time of sails. Fun little game, got pulled into it to play with that friend I ran into last week. Almost bought into it, but I think this can be a beer and pretzel game the other guys provide. I think I was the youngest out of 6 of us at 45, most of the guys were 60+ and told me this is a fast game because us old guys don’t have much time left ......three hours later . But I see where having 3 people on each side tends to slow things down. Still very fun time was had.

So I know I mentally need help focusing. Miniaturemarket has the ASOIAF game at half price. I don’t really want to jump into it, but it’s a good deal and Jamie is part of the St. Louis ASOIAF league and I joined the Facebook page. Looking at models, I like the Free Folk, the starter box just doesn’t do much for me. I may have to investigate downloading the rules and getting spare measuring stuff from others.

Also looking at stuff I see the new Chaos warriors starter set . Oh that is the look I’ve been wanting from chaos for decades. But the drawback there is straight up GW pricing . Not sure I want to do that, but the starter set plus Archaon look so nice.

Not many of the MCP figs are calling to me, but each box will have cards . I’m so tired of card games in my miniature games.

Theo's Thread: They shall be my Angels of Death @ 2019/12/27 05:23:59

Post by: youwashock

So vivid. I love the tonal range so far. I play so very little of what I own these days, I figure buy what you feel like working on, what you feel like you can stand to look at on the shelves after it is done.

Theo's Thread: They shall be my Angels of Death @ 2019/12/27 07:07:27

Post by: Viterbi

After looking at that pic I feel like my tablet is now gamma-radiated
Skin is superb and pants are also looking good. I don‘t envy you, if you still want to put highlights on those pants.

And focus is overrated It may be a little selfish, but I would love to see you tackle the ASOIAF models.

^This. It's what I hated about X-Wing, and is my one major concern about Dredd. Had a long chat with my nephew (he's 21, and because he has a proper uncle has been a gamer for over a decade) and he absolutely went off on one about MCP.

Still, Hulk's damn pretty

Thanks everyone.

Another quick look at something. Trying out some colors on old models and thinking of next project . Came across this old battlemasters chaos archer and wanted to do a side by side with his remodel.

Focus problems are real.

So much new stuf to paint and I’m repainting things to see about what to get next.

Have decided (for now) not to get ASOIAF. But other items are still n my list to knock off.

Edit: so thinking about chaosifying my Stormcast and adding the Khorne stuff and new Slaves to Darkness starter box. Only part of the way there on this guy. The helmets need to be replaced to get a better feel I think. Also the beige will be taken more to a white I think and damage added. Been looking around for inspiration. It will need a spot color and I’m thinking bright orange. The one I saw had bright blues.

I really like the old chaos archer. The Godsworn Hunt guy is better sculpted technically, but Im a sucker for older models.

 squall018 wrote:

Yeah, I totally agree, the older model has such character too.

So painting today. Or repainting is more appropriate. I’ve always had problems with Khorne and red, so when I saw alternate schemes I was intrigued. Repaint of my underworld warband of Khorne in progress.

Also I pushed the Stormcast too far . Too many layers and my OSL didn’t come out the way I wanted.

So my LGS still has copies of the AOS 2015 starter, at $125 no less. It has basically two $90 start collecting boxes in it as well as a couple larger models. Khorne and Stormcast are the two armies. Not much of a coincidence that those are the armies I’m doing test colors on . I also have my Underworlds warband of Khorne bloodborne to test some patterns on. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Khorne models from the set, but I guess I’ll take another look at them.

Theo's Thread: They shall be my Angels of Death @ 2019/12/30 19:54:50

Post by: gobert

I’m liking how the dark Stormcast is looking. The orange would help tie them in with the dark powers quite nicely, even if getting the balance right on OSL is a fine line.

The new BattleMasters archer is HUGE compared to the original! The dark powers must be slipping steroids in to the water supply!

And to repeat what others have already said, that green on Hulk is amazing!

Theo's Thread: They shall be my Angels of Death @ 2019/12/30 23:12:08

Theophony,

Ah, the dreaded repainting. You will almost always be so much happier with the redone paint jobs and wonder why you did not do it sooner.

Thanks guys.

Hulk is one of my favorites that I have done in recent years.

The repainting continues. I tackled a Bloodbowl chaos warrior to try out the skin tones I may use for the chaos warriors.

I wanted to go for a cold bloodless look, might have gone too far.

A blue or purple tint to the skin, or green if you want it sickly. Otherwise it looks fine.

Red Harvest wrote:A blue or purple tint to the skin, or green if you want it sickly. Otherwise it looks fine.

Definitely not going for the sickly. Think I’ll probably stay the course though.
youwashock wrote:I like that for an "evil guy" skintone.

Thanks, they definitely fit the bill. No misunderstanding here .
Llamahead wrote:Looks rather Elric of Melnibone to me Albino would be an interesting look for an army.

Oooooooo Elric . Hadn’t thought about that.

Little bit of work on the Khorne guy.

Thinking of giving the eyes a red wash.

Some details to finish up, and now I’m thinking of doing the martial red colored sand basing.

Edit: bit of an update, have four guys in the works, going with that skin tone I think. Let me know if it’s a good contrast. With the very monochrome scheme the bluish skin draws the attention towards the faces.

I don’t have the Martian Ironearth/crust technical paints. The question becomes will the red basing draw too much attention from the models. Also if anyone has used other alternatives to the GW ones, let me know especially if they are cheaper and come in larger containers.

Those guys are looking very cool. Going red for the eyes will look sweet. I think your basing choice will work, as well.

Khorne guys look cool, it's weird at first seeing them so sombre, but somehow they look more menacing that way. Not like some charging maniacs, but controlled berzerkers, if that makes sense.
I'll second the red eyes and a red base. It'll give a nice contrast and complement the blueish skin.

Theophony,

Well the human eye is always drawn to the face of a model, (that is way all my 300 guardsmen have their eyes painted) so the blue tinged heads works.

Sorry for the late response guys, struggling to get over the new year.

Almost pulled the trigger today on a purchase, trying to be good, then after walking away from it I realized the deal is REALLY good. So I’m picking it up tomorrow before work. Older start collecting Khorne Bloodbound (Slaughter Priest, 3 Khorne knights on Juggernaughts and 10 Blood Warriors) basically half price and a big 200ml bucket of red oxide texture.

I’ll try and post picks in an hour or so when I’m home, I dug out some old chaos dwarves and started them in this same color scheme.
Edit: Chaos Dwarves

Could only find one loader for the two bazookas. Also found a large hat wearing guy with a horn. Not sure what they could be used as, but they are just fun as is.

Looking good Theo! I got into MCP recently as well and painted up most of the starter set over Christmas. No one enjoys a job. If they do then they have fooled their boss into paying them for doing something fun. A job is doing something that others don’t want to do themselves and being compensated for doing so. It I should not meant to be fun. Big hat below.

JoshInJapan wrote:I like your take on Chaos Warriors-- they look better, I think, than the bright primary colors you see so often. Also, nice Chaos Dwarfs. I'm old enough that I prefer the pre-Big Hat versions.

Yep, I honk if GW would release just a sprue of gigantic hats they could rake in some dough as I’m sure chaos marines with big hats would quickly become a thing .

Well I promised a big hat.

Hope that blows your horn. He will get painted eventually.

Redoxide paste basing. I orepainted the base Khorne red so I could say every model in the army has Khorne red on it . It will all be covered up by the basing paste and the trim will get a new color too. Probably black.

I think the bases still need some more decoration. I have wasteland basing tufts and some red sand vase filler which may get added here and there.

Also size comparison of Magore and the slaughterpriest (not Khorne mage ).

He isn’t a big boy. Magore’s bunny ears only comes up to the chin on this guy .

Just thinking now that I may have to repaint my Zombicide bunnybombination to be one of these guys pets .

Nice take on the chaos warriors, the dark metallic scheme gives them a more menacing look. A friend went for a similar armour scheme on the old chaos warriors but replaced the helmets with glowing skulls - lost the menacing look as some of the skulls looked hilariously small

Luckily I can do both at the same time , without the quality dipping any lower than my usual level.

Weather was warm enough to prime my new guys before I left for work. Temp is plummeting as we speak and snow/ice expected this weekend.
In the mean time I worked on the basing as I was t impressed with straight red oxide paste. So I added a coating of Carromburg Crimson was to make it more red than orange. Army painter tuft also.

Then started the skin on the Bloodbound Garrick’s reavers war and from underworlds.

They are also being repainted from before. One more layer of skin to highlight before I start the rest of the model.

Also looking at the next phase purchase for this army. I need to wait till I get more painted up before I buy.....those words have never come out of my mouth before .

Started the Slaughter Priest when I got home from work. Here he is an hour later

Not very much done, just three layers of skin and a shade. Some metals started as well. I’m liking how he’s coming along.

That Hulk is GAMMA GREEN.

I like the direction you are taking these Khorne bloodbound. They are seriously heavy metal styled minis, and your approach emphasises that over the more cartoony GW style.

He is, I almost wish I had a Primaris ring next to him to show off scale of this beast.

Hard to take the Bloodbound seriously when they look like PG13 super villains. Kool Aid for the Kool Aid god, graham crackers for his throne.....right after nap time .

I’m not going to lie, I really want to throw one hazard stripes on these guys , especially big bad here. He’s just screaming for oldschool jump pack that look like turbines and some sort of Plasma gun to lay siege to the walls of the Emoeror. Wonder if I can get another of these old start collecting boxes . I can always use more troops and Juggs.

Well, I couldn’t find another of those start collecting boxes. They were the 2018 ones I believe, but my LGS is having 15% off and I’ve been eyeing their 2015 AOS starter boxes for $125. Was just a little more than I wanted to spend, but with 15% off (plus I just earned $10 in store credit from it) it was a no brainer. $115 (plus $10 credit earned) basically got me 2 start collecting boxes plus some special characters.

I’ll post contents later, but that’s 29 Khorne dudes (4 special guys) and 18 Sigmarines including mounted Lord-celestant on Dracoth.
Edit:
Contents picture for sake of showing.

20 Bloodbound
5 Blood Warriors
Blood Secretor (Big circular banner guy)
Blood Stoker (guy with whip, missing a hand but had a sword shoved into the stump for reasons)
Khorne Lord with pet Flesh hound
Khorgorath (Dumbest model I’ve seen since Pumbagore)

Lord celestant on dracoth (think he might get the Khorne treatment)
3 winged sigmarines
3 sigmarines with really ornate hats and big hammers that shoot? WTF?
10 hammer time sigmarines
1 Sigmarine who wishes he could have died and become a skeleton .

Pretty nice bunch. Still trying to decide if I’ll chaosify the Sigmarines or not.

Edit: got home, massive storms, painted for about an hour. So here I should the progress.

The question is do I add red to my palette? His loincloth and straps on the back of his leg armor? Or do I stay away from red altogether?

Theo's Thread: They shall be my Angels of Death @ 2020/01/11 17:21:00

And then the mornings work on the Slaughterpriest

Tried something basic and silly on the loincloths. I held the model upside down because in my mind shadows defy gravity .

Getting there.

Good stuff! Liking that armor coloring, looks like the washed with lye soap turning it dark yet the edging is polished. Looks so realistic.

Thanks everyone, means a lot with all the comments. I know the reason I overlooked chaos for so long was that the models couldn’t match the art. That and all the new Khorne Bloodbound humans looked way too muscled, and not in a cool He-man way. I’m hoping the color change helps as the reds were just too much.

In the mean time, Khorne demands assembly, he doesn’t care how much blood is spilled in the process. And with all these sharp pointy parts there is definitely blood being spilt.

The Khorgoroth is as dumb in real life as in the artwork. Seriously they could have given it more proportional legs and it would work, but the body is so wide and only so thick .

Also the two leader guys are based.

Also have the other two Juggernauts based, no picture as the wash was drying and still needed the scrubs added.

I don’t play anything anymore, but these are just looking fun to paint.

I hope Khorne is pleased, I stayed up till 1a.m. Assembling the rest of the Khorne Bloodbound guys.

Hey Theo, Loving the vast array of chaosy goodness you've got going on. The pale skin really works for those Khorne guys! It's something you don't see much of but it works so well. Especially with the metal armour.

And good score on the 2015 starter box. Hard to pass up a bargain like that.

Thanks Snrub, almost wish I had more cash right now to have grabbed a second one of the starter set, luckily they still have 4-5 more that I can wait on.

I missed out on Gorechosen, but at the time I had no desire to do the knorne stuff. Marvel will happen here soonish.

You got the starter set too , can’t wait to see your take on them.

So Jugger2 almost done, just realized I haven’t added the scrub brush yet.

I’m on the edge about adding some more color. As it is I did a bronzish color on the juggers collars, but I’m thinking of adding the skin color onto the shields, but not sold on the idea.

Looking good. I don't know about using the skin color, but you could hit the shield rune with some brass/bronze. You could also try filling the runes on the flanks in a different color. Red or a warm metallic?

The shield runes going to Bronze was another idea I had, I wasn’t sold on using the skin tone on the shield as that would look too forced I think. Thanks

Well finished the third juggernaut

And all four completed models together (minus the shield runes)

With these out of the way it’s time for LOTS of blocking in of metals .

Yeah, some spot color is called for here. Your steel looks great, but it's kind of hard to make out a lot of the details on the model.

You're certainly putting my progress to shame Theo, an impressive start to the year! Agree with you and others that a little splash of colour would help the juggers. As another option, some blood splatters could add a bit of colour if you can't be bothered with the more fiddly job of painting the runes

Lovely work on the Khorne guys, the pale skin is wonderful. It's like they're so Khorne that they've given all their blood to the Blood God already!

As others have said, the bigger models do call for some additional color. I'd probably go for some metallic, and leave red out all together from the models. Speaking of which, the Slaughterpriest's red pouch is hogging too much attention, I feel. Maybe paint it in a more neutral color? Or add it somewhere else as well.

Definitely will do something with the icons, but leaning away from red. I’m going to get further on before tackling those. Thanks

JoshInJapan wrote:Yeah, some spot color is called for here. Your steel looks great, but it's kind of hard to make out a lot of the details on the model.

I’m going almost for that scene in the old movie Excalibur where all the knights are charging with their glistening armor and blinding their opponents. Or like when Gandalf is charging down the hill at Helm with all the riders and he creates the blinding light. Little details, to busy being slaughtered to worry about the opponents armor .

Oh don’t worry, I get a lot done in spurts, but basically haven’t even walked downstairs to my painting corner in days. Blood will probably happen, but will be added to the army as a whole when I get all these done.

I hadn’t noticed the pouch, but now that you mention it, it really does show. Will work on touching it up later, maybe the same ratskin flesh as the cloth of his tabard and the Knights skirts. After thinking about it I think red will only feature in eyes and the bases, so I’ll need to touch up his scars as well.

Yorkright wrote: Those juggernauts are Ace Theo! Too bad you don’t game would love to throw down against your armies.

I’d love to get a game in sometime, just work, family and life get in the way. Thanks

Snrub wrote:Really liking the limited palette on those khorne guys. It works so well for them!

Yeah, I think the red is an all or nothing deal. I couldn’t pull it off with my old Blood Angels, and didn’t really like it that much with the Khorne guys I’ve done before. Probably the main reason I never built a Khorne army to begin with.

ListenToMeWarriors wrote:Great work on the Juggers, one of those classic designs that needed very little design work to bring them bang up to date.

Definitely loved the plastic versions they have come out with. I bought a box of the demon juggernaut riders and converted them ages ago for iron warriors. It’s believeable robotic parts to me at least.
Spoiler:

All three pieces next to the iron warrior hero were made with the juggernaut body as the core. Came up with these after seeing the Contemptor dreadnought when they first came out.

Well I haven’t felt the desire to paint for a few days combined with a sinus infection and weird weather here my sleep has been way off the mark. Finally the antibiotics have kicked in and starting on the mend. First guy I wanted to tackle is the glaive wielding looney.

His shoulder has come out awesome in my opinion.

Still needs basing to be done, but I’m really happy at how he looks.

Also started on the model that kept me from AoS in the first place. The Khorgorath.

The question is do I make his skin like the blood brothers skin? Or do I do it and all the flesh hounds in more of the ratskin flesh like the tabard on the slaughterpriest? The white here actually makes me just want to clean up my messy bone work and shading and go albino with him

Albino could work nicely with the stark look you have going with the rest of the group. Especially once the blood splatter hits.

Thanks YWS, the stark color is really drawing me in for the beast. I think it’s my best shoulder EVER

Yorkright wrote: Definitely try the albino skin he is a big model and should stand out from the rest. The blood spatter should unify the unit and yes that is a great looking shoulder.

Yep, going albino. Thanks Yorkright.

So going albino in the big beast.

This is the base skin color with a Nuln oil wash in the creases. Just ruined my eyes and a cheap Chinese brush (that’s what they are for) putting a layer on top, forgot to snap a shot before heading upstairs. Maybe tomorrow.
And another Blood Warrior done.

Base is almost completed since I took that photo.

So I’ve been sidelined with what I thought was a sinus infection and the start of a respiratory infection, but it’s looking more and more like the Flu. Hopefully seeing the doctor in the morning for confirmation either way.

Edit: forgot I took the pic on my phone.

Thank you everyone!

Sorry no individual posts, I spent 20 minutes typing one up on my iPad just for our WiFi to go down moments before I posted and erase it all .

So quick batch answer to the messages.

I’m feeling better now, not 100%, but I can basically focus now. I’ve been back to work on Thursday and Friday but off this weekend to regain some strength. Bright lights were really bothering me so not much time online as backlit screens were bothersome. I’ll catch up soon enough with all your amazing blogs in short order.

After a couple Dr. Visits it turns out no flu, but concurrent viral and bacterial infections in my sinuses, ears and it was trying to get into my lungs. The antibiotics were helping some, but then the other infection was able to take its place with a weakened immune system from the initial infection. We cut it off before getting to my lungs, I usually wind up with bronchitis or pneumonia every winter at least once, dodging it right now.

New insurance from work is great and is costing about a third of the old insurance and saving me money on my kids prescriptions. Great for helping pay down some more bills.

Got possibility of a mon-fri job at work, hoping to hear back this week on it. It’s a much less physical role, but more patient contact, so more chance of catching these cooties .

Needed something without a screen to read and had credit saved up at the LGS, so after dropping my youngest off at her winter formal Langston night I picked up a copy of Gaslands: Reloaded and a $6 of cars from Walmart. Graven and others have been running roughshod over the racetracks of the world and it’s time someone got behind the wheel to shut him down .

Going to use the silver car and the gyrocopter to make a Highway Patrol sponsored team to start with. I haven’t tried a gyrocopter yet, but flying around with loud sirens throwing hazards on people just seems wrong/right.

Also started on the bloodstoker for the AOS army.

Blocked in with some washes applied, long way to go still.

The Khorgie that’s going to have to be his nickname is not yet done, but I shaved off the tassels on either side of his head as the one got broken off multiple times. It’s just bad placement of a brittle part.

Really happy with how he is coming along. As I’ve said he is the single reason I detested AOS when it came out.

Once again, big thanks to all of you for the well wishes. Means a lot .

Eyes are tired of typing this again.

Thanks YWS, the new position would be nice, but I enjoy the physical work and a desk job has never been my goal. That said I’m not getting younger, so a less physical job is my target. The new Gaslands book is well worth it. More sponsors much better layout and just packed with cool stuff. That said, the rules haven’t changed, so the old book will do still and most of the new stuff is from the Time Extended free section on their website, so you could always use the old book if money is a factor.

inmygravenimage wrote:Really, really excited to see what mad wizardry you come up with for Gaslands!

I have some ideas, but looking at my workspace last night most of my crafting stuff has been put away , so I’ll need to do a full clean up of my area and get my scratchbuilding gear back out and put to use.

aku-chan wrote:The big beastie is coming along nicely.

Thanks Aku-Chan. Did more work on Khorgie, almost time to take him on a walkie.

Khorgie, closer to done. He will definitely stand out on the table now. Wanted to do something for the tentacle fingers, so incorporated the ratskin flesh there which features on other models as well.

The tentacles are still wet I need the photo

Also worked on the blood stoker

He was another model I really did not like the look of when released. I think the change in colors has helped me to appreciate the details on this guy.

Lastly I started on the banner bearer, not even done blocking in at this point.

You read my mind on bits, but then again I have these Dreamforge miniatures bits still, and they make some nice add ons.

The blood stoker just looked fat, and I hadn’t noticed the sword arm. Honestly I hadn’t noticed much on him except the sizes were so much larger than old WFB Khorne guys. That was the problem with the games transition in my opinion.

Viterbi wrote:Nice work on all the Khorne guys and excited to see, what you'll do with the cars for gaslands.

Gaslands go a bit of the throttle tonight, so you’ll see some direction below.

Quick bits-ing on some cars for Gaslands. I used a bunch of bits from my supply of Dreamforge eisenkern troops to give them weapons. The finer details and the 28mm heroic scale looked better to me than just GW parts, though the one got an extra Juggernaut horn for the front ram.

Forgot to take the silver one apart so I can prime them separate from the wheels . Oh well, plan B, prime it all. I don’t need wheels to turn or clear windows.

Busy next few days. Means quick updates when I can. Couple events at church and waiting for the secretary to have her baby (I will be painting her office while she’s out, but she’s planning on being right back to work, so will have to strike while the iron is hot). Chili cook-off on Sunday with the super bowl. Lots to do.

Now I need to source my templates for Gaslands and get actual dice, not the ones I jury rigged last year .

It's actually better to have the wheels not turn, means that they stay put after you've placed them with templates. Love the juggernaut ram, and the general builds. I quite often just fire car mesh over the windows rather than removing them.

No pics of the chili cook off. About 20 cooks all bring big pots and 150 or so people eat it and have a good time. Definitely need you to get into the game. I picked up a few more victims today.

I set it up, I don’t make chili as my wife and kids won’t eat it and I’m fine with canned stuff for convenience . Firepower is a good idea in this game. Firepower and speed.

Okay, so not much done in the past week hobby wise. Job wise I have a face to face on Monday for a much better position at my hospital which involves a desk . Talked with the corporate recruiter and he has sent my resume to some directors for consideration. All of this should have happened three years ago but the recruiter I had been dealing with wasn’t doing his part and has since left the company and now I’m getting nibbles. Also helps that I cornered the president of our facility and spoke with her.

Today started out as . Had requested today off to take youngest daughter to doctors appointment. Drove kids to school, but the car was acting funny and all sorts of lights on my console. Needed a tow, but needed a rental to take daughter. Dealt with tow company over phone, they wouldn’t pick up without me there, but I couldn’t be there because of doctor appointments . Got that resolved, got picked up for car rental. Car was too small for me so I brought it back, got larger car but another renter backed into my rental as I was filling out the paperwork . Delays, got daughter to doctor, everything fine there thank god. Car engine had been eaten by squirrels. I you not this is the second time this has happened to me. Last time it was like $1200 in repairs and two weeks as my old car was older and not very popular. Luckily This car is newer and parts are cheaper so only $500. Car I should back. Getting “live animal trap” this weekend and will modify it to be less kind .

Anyway on to the good stuff. Took a few minutes today to work on some cars of much less value.

Okay, this ones a gyroCOPcopter for my Highway Patrol. Not much done, but had to cover odd shaped door openings so it got blue painters tape and chicken mesh. Also a light bar/siren and some droppers on back as the only weapons it can have are dropped weapons.

My homage to Mr. Slam from Twisted Metal PlayStation game. Grabber arm on front, need to find a flamethrower. He is a one man show at 50cans by himself.

5 new cars for the showroom. Oil tanker truck, hot rod, food truck, dune buggy and hot rod/buggy crossover.

Found this monster truck, he’s called Crushstation . He will go with the food truck which has lobster and crab cakes listed on the side and is called the lobster cage. Or maybe the will be mortal enemies .

Lastly I picked up a set of Star Wars legion barricades. Two styles (4each) in the set. I’m going to use the one in front of the car as ramps as the design looks like an arrow pointing up and use the others as crash walls and barricades on the track.

My custom skid dice should arrive Saturday and my custom laser cut templates late next week. I still need to locate my self made skid dice and try and get some games in with my son.

Also have a bunch of blank dice coming from China , hopefully not containing any corona virus.

See you all n the Gaslands

Thanks Maharg, more Gaslands below. The ratskin flesh also brings just enough color I think to help out.

So another Gaslands vehicle.
Started with this guy and some Zinge Industries tires.

Came up with this. Unfortunately it’s illegal , because it’s a buggy (lightweight) it cannot have an exploding ram.

So I think I’ll have to cut the RPG off the fronts and attach spikes or connect them to the ram.

It’s always a good thing to be reminded of, such a great show.

Forgot to post this angle of the car.

Also just picked up a pack of parts from the sewing section of Walmart for more decoration. Saw a YouTube video using 7/16” button snaps for wheel spikes and land mines .

Thanks, spoke with my neighbor yesterday, three of their cars had hoses and wires eaten by the squirrels the same day mine did and one of their cars was chewed up last week. He and another neighbor are actively hunting squirrels with pellet guns now.

Thanks CB, feeling a lot better now. Spikes are good, guns are better.

So after seeing them used on YouTube I bought a couple packs of the sewing rivets at Walmart.

They make nice mines and great tire spikes.
Worked up a second buggy. This one has a mini gun, ram, oil slick dispenser and mine layer (wheel spikes all around though no rules for them.

Very theraputic

I’m really feeling team slime right now with bunches of buggies.

I bought a half dozen packs of these rivets some time ago, did not think of this use for them, I was going to use them to articulate joints on models, similar to magnets. You could swap out parts. Going to have to revisit them again now.

I thought I saw them in one of your builds somewhere, but then I saw it on a YouTube video as well. Also saw some other neat bits that I’ll have to try and source this week, it was from a German Gaslands player, but it’s electrical parts, so I should be able to locate them here too.

I’m not going inside the cars, too fiddley. I’m still thinking about grabbing some drivers and riders though .

I actually haven’t tried yet. I did paint on top of the models with GW paints with no major problem. I’ve been reading about stripping the actual paint off of them, but the chemicals are caustic and I don’t want to do it inside the house, so that’ll wait till spring here.

Syro_ wrote:Those are some really cool looking Gaslands cars you're making Theo

Thanks Syro, hopefully they can escape all the beholders and their cousins that seem to be invading around here .

Speaking of Gaslands, my custom skid dice showed up today, a few days late.

black with swirls and white paint. Nice looking dice. Set me back less than $10 including shipping. Came from Schu’s Games on Etsy.

Also who’s afraid of Corona Virus? I don’t drink much, but when I do it sure isn’t Corona beer . Just got another package from China off of Wish.com. 25 Red and 25 Black Blank Dice for $10.56 shipped they are listed as 16mm rounded edge dice, but they are almost identical in size to the Gaslands Dice and my measurement says 15mm. Anyway 10mm round stickers can affix to the sides easy enough for any custom needs.

It’s a Target Exclusive, the store I went to had 6-7 of them. $5.49 is more than I wanted to spend, but it’s basically kitted out already. The side door is open and doesn’t move, but the back door is also open and the gun back there slides in and out.

I found a couple old time cars that were calling me. Each time I go out I find I’m looking for stuff for a new sponsor.

The “Poo King” truck with the twin Johnny on the spots on the back was too good to pass up. Plus they are removable, so they are coming off and will be some sort of decoration or objective for the table.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Started working on my race gates today, of course I started at the starting line. Not listed in the game, but I figure they probably don’t like cheaters, so added two twin linked machine guns for any false starts .

Start your engines.

Also made a new buggy. I liked the look of the car, but it doesn’t fit many designs I had until I looked at the old aegis defense line turret part and cut the circle free. Then it just screamed super tech to me so the car became a team Mishkin buggy. I can use it as either a thumper or better yet an arc lightning projector. .

Well, just spent two hours cutting out papercraft shipping containers (20+ in 4 different colors), sandbag, stone and brick walls. All free to print from combatstorm.com in their downloads section. Printed on 110lb paper stock (only had a cream color not white so the containers are a little darker than I’d like) for durability.

Grey, red, blue and green.

Also received my template order yesterday. Still need to get the paper off of all of them, but really happy with the look and price.

It’s actually two sets here. The regular templates and then the specialty dropped templates set (contains two each of all the small and large dropped templates)
Lovely fluorescent blue color to them. Nice thick and sturdy. Got all you see in the picture from a vendor on Etsy for $27+$4 shipping. If I had bought $35 I would have gotten free shipping. I just wish he made a double long template too. Going to send him an email to enquirer about it. It took less than a week to get them too.

The fastest way to clean up the laser-etched templates is to peel off the main paper, and then take a credit card (or another plastic template) and gently scrape off the remaining tiny little fiddly bits.

Better on the table than in my belly . Thanks.

So made some toxic bases for the army thus far. Followed Duncan’s recipe, I think they are looking good, and will be completed with some grass tufts.

Also finished an old model that I had bought way back when. I think it’s from Hell Dorado. It’s a guy being eaten by maggots. Might be an objective for my guys.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I really like the plaid purple skin tones over the greenish hues normally seen on Nurgle models. I really want to stress the fact that they were human once and have succumbed to the influence of Nurgle more than all things green = Nurgle. Once I start to develope my demon side of the army I’ll think about doing more green skin tones, but I just like the sickly rotting flesh, which may become my demon colors too.

Anyway my Maggotkin army has exploded like unchecked Corona Virus. I found some great deals on Maggotkin starters (so I bought them )
My Army looks like this to pull from.
5starter boxes of Maggotkin
5Lord of Blights
10Pusgoyle Blightkings
25 Putrid Blightkings on foot
1 Lord of Plagues
The Wurmspat Underworlds warband
The Glottkin
And conversion parts
The previously posted objective victim
The old Mordheim Town Cryer
And a new add on from the dents and dings.

A plastic mammoth from somewhere which has no ears, tusks or tail. Perfect starting point for a converted Harbinger of Decay. Hopefully no one would have a problem with it being on a larger base (shown on a 50x90 oval above).

Painted my test Pusgoyle yesterday.

Started on the Wurmspat.

And the old town crier is ready for a repaint.

Stay safe. Working at a hospital I should entertaining right now .

Thanks everyone. The Pusgoyle is a model I’m really proud of, came out a lot better than I hoped.

Did some assembling this morning.that Glottkin is a big Mother

5” round base is huge, pusgoyle and Blightkings for scale. The Blightking is also larger than a typical human, so he really is massive.

WIP of the mammoth, more done since this, but it’s set up so a model with a 20mm base can stand on its back.

I’ll have more to show soon....ish.

Thanks guys. I’ll be checking out other threads shortly, I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus with reading threads lately . Really burnt out of most hobbling and time crunch with The Coronavirus stuff happening. All three of my kids and my wife (teacher) were on spring break this week and I had taken some time off to hang out with them. The pandemic has made it into much more hang out time and togetherness. Lots of Monopoly played until people cry , tv watching (love it or list it) and teaching how to drive as both of the twins got their permits.

Assembled the rest of the swarm and got them primed today.

Also assembled about a dozen more Blightkings, no photos of them yet.

More to come and lots for me to catch up on shortly.

Theo's Thread: They shall be my Angels of Death @ 2020/03/22 17:45:45

Post by: Theophony

Yes, covid19 and Monopoly, the doom of mankind. I’d play Zombicide, but my wife won’t because of zombie-hookers and other oversexualized models. Plus my kids still aren’t interested at all in my games .

12:01 tonight starts a 30 day stay in place order here in St. Louis. So my wife and kids are stuck for 30 days with no school or friends in person. I in the other hand will get to return to work at the hospital (last day of a five day planned vacation), still unsure if I’ll be working at church or not as the stay in place order limits even non essential not for profit work. Also with no services allowed (no gatherings of more than 10 people), it’s hard to justify working when there’s less revenue coming in. It would be a great time to get some big projects done, but we heed the law as we have been told to.

No pics yet, but I polished off a bottle of Reikland fleshshade on the Glottkin. He is a huge beast to paint Nd trying to find a good way of holding him is hard as all the horns are either sharp or have sharp bits on them.

Managed to assemble and prime the last 18 Blightkings models I had purchased. Tons of left over bits from the 5 start collecting boxes. Each of the 10 Pusgoyles I have have options for riders, so I have I believe 10 upper bodies for more Blightkings, which just need legs to make two more units worth of dudes. All the options from these kits allow for great customization. I may need to start practicing with putty to make legs or maggot lower halves like centaurs.

Pics later. Cheers.

Edit: wife and kids went out to grab crafting stuff for themselves. So here’s pinky-McGlottkin.

Thanks guys, they really knocked it out of the park with these designs and models. Plus I’m having loads of fun with painting them, so they really did a solid on design.

Took a few minutes before I left and added purple to give more depth and bruising effect.

Purple Nurgle Nurple, say that three times fast

Off to work.

So not so quick update, and non-gaming related.
Spoiler:
So I took a job as a janitor in the Hospital 6.5 years ago for many reasons. Most importantly it worked around my kids (who were young then) schedule for school, worked around my wife’s schedule (teacher), and had great benefits. Four years ago. Finished my Bachelors degree, which was paid for (one of the benefits) by the hospital, and have been trying to move up in the chain with many roadblocks in the way. Family sickness and death have kept me from truly pursuing a change as well as the kids schooling needing my schedule to be flexible. This year they all started high school and have done fairly well in getting themselves off in the mornings. Combined with my moms health stabilizing and a better nursing facility for my wife’s grandmother, has meant pursuit of a new position was on again. I interviewed a few weeks ago for a spot and totally killed it in the interview, was really sure I had the spot. I got called for a second round interview and nailed it, absolutely sure I got the job, especially when they started with introducing me to the rest of the team as John, the guy taking the spot at xxxxxx and telling me about my office. Was introduced to not only my bosses boss, but their boss and the Vice President over that section of the business and having a great 15 minute unscheduled discussion that ended in a “It’ll be great to have you aboard!” From the VP.

Then the Coronavirus hits big . Hospitals are in a crazy fight right now to protect employees and patients. All non-essential surgeries are cancelled, office employees are put on furlough as they are not seeing patients or scheduling appointments, nurses in surgeries have only emergency cases so are asked to take vacation time. Basically one side of the business shuts down as the other side braces for the tsunami of Covid cases to come. We currently have two at my facility, and one of our sister facilities lost a nurse who had contracted it . The date set to call me back to offer me the position passed and when I tried to contact the people who interviewed me they had all been inundated with dealing with patient appointment cancellations, office closures and prep work for the crisis. Got a late email saying the position is being temporarily put on hold until things shake out. Yesterday I followed up to see how things were progressing to be told I’d know at the end of the day. End of the day comes with no answer, sleepless night, long morning with no reply. Worn out and trying to get the kids started with the online schooling which started this morning.

Finally phone rang, informed I got the job, but pay and details are not worked out yet. Start date still in the air as training classes have been put on hold until further notice.

In the end, super excited. Can’t wait to begin this new chapter in my life. I may be laying down the mop at the hospital, but still going to work it out at the church on the side.

One of my co-workers said to me the other day. “John, you deserve this, it’ll happen. It’s just taking a pandemic to slow you down, but it’s not stopping you .”

Many of you have been on my blog for YEARS, and I thank you. It’s been a hard, long, difficult time. In the end though it has been worth it. I know others are struggling right now. Ive been lucky that I have two jobs that I can still work at while many others are being laid off and trying to make ends meet. All I can suggest is keeping your nose to the grindstone even when it feels like you or it has been worn through.

It gets better.

Thank You all again.
John Mathews-Theophony

PAinting to resume sometime today.

Thanks everybody . Looks like my start date is two weeks away yet. With the Covid19 causing issues with the training class and end of our payroll period pushing it out till then. Slightly more money to boot, so good deal all around. The two weeks will give me time to say goodbye to loads of people who I’ve worked with over the last 6.5 years. Had a couple doctors who overheard me telling someone else both express Howe they are going to miss me, which was awesome.

Got some work done on the swarm of Pusgoyles this week. Here’s the Lord of Affliction on his steed.

The skin of the pusgoyle looks almost translucent, almost like a grub. If I gave it a glossy coating I think it might sell the effect.

And the swarm and a Pygmy mammoth

Going to paint a bit before bed.

Thanks everyone. One week left of the janitorial stuff at the hospital. Had a new boss start the day I gave notice , he said usually people wait a day or two before the quit after meeting him. He’s a good guy and he is seriously pushing for me to work for his company. Our management is outsourced to these guys , hence why I’ve had no upward mobility over the years. We run through them pretty hard, this guy is literally number 23 in four years , one one lasted three years .

My hands are numb from all the soap, hand washing and hand sanitizer that I go through at work. I ain’t bringing this home.

I know my job is important even if lackluster. I had no qualms about taking the job years ago as I had a very strong memory from my youth. It was my father telling me how important this one guy at our church was. I had asked if he was a priest or some sort of saint, but he was just the old janitor. My father was a hard worker all his life and appreciated people who got their hands dirty. So for him to say such a nice thing about the man it made an impression on me. I think I was five or six at the time and it’s a solid memory still 40 years later.

Still, the true heroes I work with are the doctors and nurses who I’ve seen run towards the coding patients who have Covid19. I’ve seen it a few times this week. They have families and they know the consequences, yet still go without needing a reminder. Makes me proud to work with these men and women.

Tiring stuff these days, being on edge and more of a heightened awareness of things. Little time to paint, yet it has happened. Even less time to post and read while the wife and kids are home and I try to get some semblance of normalcy going.

One of the Glottkin brothers who rides on his brothers back. Still needs a few touches on the cloth, but otherwise he is about done.

Yard work and cleaning of basement and garage this weekend.

Stay safe
Stay strong
And stay 6’ away .

Thanks everyone. Playing it safe as can be. Limited exposure to rest of the world and bathing in hand sanitizer. Soap levels running low though. We don’t have it nearly as bad as New York, but we have begun rationing the Personal Protective Equipment at work. If you can stay at home, inside, please do. Any chance of exposure is one that doesn’t need to happen.

Nurgle forces being on the rise is mainly due to the 2019 generals handbook rules adjustments. The funny (although completely unrelated) thing is a coworker told me I could sell my blood platelets for money, 4 visits got me $300 and him a $25 finder fee. That and a few Scrooge McDuck moves got me 5 Maggotkin Starters and a Glottkin. Anyone interested in more details PM me, only worked for Nurgle though.

@Grave, which army are you thinking?

A little more work done.

And the family together.

Family mug shot

Still plenty to do, but at least tabletop ready.

A lot to catch up on, congratulations on the new job and best of luck with everything that is going on Theo. Like you say, as difficult as it may be, avoiding contact with others outside of your home when possible is the way limit the impact of the virus.

The Glotkin is starting to take shape and already looking great, as you say it is already ready for the tabletop. It will be time consuming tackling the various skulls, bubboes and pustules that are all over the model but it will be worth it.

Personally I'm a fan of doing costumes yellow, which fades to red at the edges. White spot at the high point and a nice gloss finish. They can work well in greens or purples too, but purples probably won't stand out so much against your flesh.

I love the skintones on your Nurgle stuff.

Theo's Thread: They shall be my Angels of Death @ 2020/04/06 12:45:50

Post by: Theophony

Thanks guys, the flesh tones are working out for me too. I’ve always disliked doing skin tones and even had my custome Marine chapter being ones that never removed their helmets so I didn’t have to paint flesh . But when you find something that works you run with it.
@Fifty, yeah, it’s hard to concentrate at times, especially now, but then you find yourself washing your hands for the third time in ten minutes and you know your doing it right.
@monkeytroll, I tried the yellow, but wasn’t getting the contrast, might just be because of the horn colors so close, I’ll get plenty of practice I guess.
@graven. Nurgle could work, but if your son is already doing nighthaunt, you might want to get the Stormcast so you can split the starter box with him. Also being in England you have access to the partswork AOS magazine and can get cheap Stormcast that way. Though they are basically marines , there seems to be a bunch of ways to play them. You could also convert them into chaos worshippers of Nurgle and do a Slaves to darkness/Nurgle army to go with your Plaguebearers.

Little bit of painting this morning, touched up a Gluttony Avatarfrom The Others:seven sins. It can operate as the character Gutrot Spume who lets me bring in a unit of Maggotkin from any board edge and his tentacles can disarm an opponent. Or I think he can work as a beast of Nurgle.

Going to repaint the rest of the models from the set as big nurglings to help fill bases with the extras from the Blightkings.

Thanks guys.

So much going on right now. It’s nice to be considered an essential employee, and still able to work both jobs, but it has some drawbacks. Mainly lack of time to paint. I am glad that I was able to get all my Nurgle needs before this shut down. I see Miniaturemarket has removed the GW discount, at least on most stuff, and others have likewise reduced or eliminated it as well. Supply and demand I guess, but if most people are like me they have mountains to paint stored up.

Anyway, speaking of mountains, I have a mountain of fleshy bits to show off . That sounds worse than it should

Glottkin, stand in guttrot spume, and stand I need nurglings.

Closer look at the nurglings, because who wouldn’t want that .

Taking some time to paint up the Wurmspat now.

Stay safe,
Stay healthy,
Stay six feet away .

Thanks guys. Long busy day so far today and only early afternoon here.

New AC unit is installed, Justin time for possible snow flurries overnight . God I love St. Louis weather.

Did the grocery run. Really upset at how many people are out and about without masks and in groups not social distancing. The ones wearing the hospital masks especially the Walmart employees are wearing them wrong. I’ve seen inside out, tucked under the chin and not covering anything, but the one that really pisses me off is when people wear them only covering their mouths and leave their noses out so they can still breath . This virus goes through the nose, mouth and mucus membranes around your eyes to infect the hosts. I have a hard time believing people don’t understand that they will catch it by being idiots. Making cloth masks is easy and should be done if your going out, no excuses. We don’t have enough masks at the hospital so we reuse them, my position has to use the same one for three shifts before being given a new one. One of the Respiratory team said that theirs are being used for multiple shifts and then “baked” to sterilize them and then being put back into circulation, but they aren’t guaranteed to begetting the same one back, so they might get another team members mask that they wore for a few 12 hour shifts .

Anyway, to celebrate people’s belief that they are invulnerable I did some more painting this morning.

The two Wurmspat guys. So neat to paint up, still have to finish their bases, but they are loaded with character.

And their backsides including the bug butt.

Group shot of really far along but not completely completed models.

Have to do some 1:1 scale painting tonight/tomorrow.

Good work, Theo'.

re. masks: Yeah, the first thing I thought when everyone went out and bought all the disposable masks and gloves, was that the general public don't know how to use them properly to get the benefits. And it's leading to a false sense of security, which will just lead to unnecessary infections and prolonging of the lockdowns that they are trying to circumvent. Not to mention depriving the people that need and can use those things.

Thanks guys, I couldn’t let all those upper bodies go to waste after all. Nurgle takes people in all different shapes, sizes and dis/abilities.

I plan for them to just be more Blightkings, though they all have scythes or a trident, and could easily be brought up to cavalry sized bases and turned into allied Nurgle knights .

The batch painting was just to get the skin started. The absolute lowest level of skin tones. To give you an idea, going from that level to this completed guy was about four hours and five more layers on the skin alone.

And the rear view of him, because who doesn’t like the look of flabby, bloated, rotting Maggotkin booty .

Off to that new job thing. 8 more hellish hours of training classes where no one else in the group will speak up when questions are asked .

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback .

Training class is done. Thank the good Lord. Been doing one on one training, which while not fabulous has been much better than the Skype-lite class. My trainer took today off, which left me in a terrible spot, so my boss let me do a half day. Still aren’t seeing patients, except special issue cases, so the parts of my job (pre-registering and scheduling) have been caught up through MAY, and I’m not checking people in . Still having a job in this time is lucky.

Not getting much paint time in, but still got a few things done.

Wurmspat is done. Bases aren’t perfect, but they will blend in with the rest of the army well enough.

Finished these two off, really liking how they are coming along. The one with the flat back of the arm gets a shield which is drying separately.

Obligatory back side shot, got to love the love handles .

Thanks for looking.

that bell is hanging from his chain mail skirt, not other things, that would be Slaanesh . Unless you were talking about the one in his belly. Then I would just guess it’s hanging from the inside of his throat.

All good stuff Theo. Got the sickly skin tone looking just right.

Maybe he converted from Slaanesh...wanted to make use of his old toys for his new patron.

Love this army -- especially the way you evoke a pussy, bloated, Nurglish mess but with a vivid clarity and a sharpness of effect, rather than just a messy blob of paint. Well done.

Thanks guys . The green is indeed just right for the skin tone. Always had trouble picking colors, but this just came together on its own. After watching a video by Miniac about creating your own custom paint scheme (yesterday, not before starting this project), it reinforced what I wanted to try and achieve without smacking me in the face. While I find his videos obnoxious, I always get some sort of take away from them.

Finished this guy off last night, just didn’t get pics up.

Two axes, no waiting .

Also you can see the shield on the leader guy in the picture as well.

In other news I keep getting a voice telling me to start another project . I am very tempted to start on frostgrave, but that is completely different from my collections and I have no opponent that I know of to play against. The second edition is coming out in July (my birthday ), but I’m not sure I want to go that route.

The other whisper is for test of Honour second edition, which is out already and I have tons of plastic to play with, still no opponent, but it wouldn’t be a new project just a revamped one. I’m kind of leaning that direction, but I think I need to continue forward with big Papa Nurgle more before going down that road.

Frostgrave is, in my opinion, the best game released in the past decade. You don't even have to use the official models-- I've been painting up old Citadel, RAFM, and Reaper models for FG, and they fit in just fine. You can even make a samurai-themed warband, allowing you to kill two birds with one stone, as it were.

Oh I think you just sold me on it . It’s also looking sooooooo much less expensive out of the gate.

Also, quick paint up of another member of the army. Getting all the initial skin color done really has helped churn these out quick.

Also have another repaint in the works to flesh out the army, not sure how it’ll fit as it’s not GW, but fits the big fleshy theme.

Not sure if this is the biggest Nurgling, or the smallest GUO. CMONs Black Plague big boss monster, he’s on a 40mm base, his long arm might make him a better fit for Gutrot Spume, but for now he’s just here.

And his backside in all it’s pussy glory.

I painted the “bone” spots green and will just think it’s his armor from when he was a warrior which has just been wrapped and bent out as he grew spontaneously with a Nurgle Gift. His claw tips are part of his gauntlet.

On another front I’ve spoken to my wife about getting an Ender 3. Will be looking into it more today. Will be a boon for terrain.

Also printed out Frostgrave PDF and I’m now considering what type of Wizard to go with.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Really enjoying this project.

So next project ideas are bubbling. FROSTGRAVE is running first place in this arena. I want to do something unique with it, not just humans in parkas running around. The big chill is over, but there’s still ice and snow around. I read that with second edition the first expansion coming out will be The Red King. Basically before the freeze a horde of demons lead by the Red King was breaking into the frostgrave dimension from their reality. Warbands will be facing more demons and be teaming up to stop the incursions. So I was thinking that all sorts of races would be trying to stop the incursion so there’s might be other race warbands (not sure if that’s thing or not in frostgrave).

So I was thinking a gnome warband would be funny to build. Short tricky, techno boys having fun and running amok in the frozen city. Problem is there’s not enough variety of gnome sculpts out there.

Alternatively I could build a dwarf warband, plenty of dwarvy figures out there, just feels weird having dwarf wizards.

Orcs and goblins could also work.....having goblins be the wizards and the stealthy type soldiers while the orcs are the thugs, barbarians and...knights.

Then came some really off the wall ideas......gorillas.....with Zulus or pygmies . This would fit more I think with Ghost Archipelagoes than frostgrave, but as I’m not totally locked in it could still work. Plus jungle themes strike my fancy more than frozen tundras.

Who has played either game? What can you tell me about Ghost Archipelago?

I’m thinking about throwing money at a 3D printer, so if anyone has experience there, let me know. It’s probably going to be a Crealty Ender 3.

Oh and the hospital may be laying me off tomorrow , 2000 job cuts (furlough though, so I’ll keep my job and benefits for when things bounce back, estimated at most to be 13weeks and I’ll make more with unemployment while sitting at home ). So I may have some time to really get painting.

A dwarf-gnome alliance? Gorillas as yetis, pygmies as a gnome like race? Switch it around and have gorillas as the techno boys and gnomes as the hardy warriors...

Can't tell you anything about games or printers unfortunately.

Sorry to hear you're likely to be furloughed - are the US implementing a scheme whereby you'll get a percentage of your wage, or will it be unemployment?

Ghost Archipelago uses the same basic ruleset as Frostgrave. The differences include:
・Your warband is lead by a Heritor with an assortment of minor superpowers, assisted by a hedge-wizard.
・Standard crewmen (roughly equivalent to thugs in FG) are free to replace. Specialists require a return trip to the mainland if you want to replace them, which costs gold.
・Treasure placement and experience work differently, and in my opinion, better.

That said, you are in no way required to have everyone dressed in parkas or mounted on snow bases. Paint the models you like, choose the profiles you think are appropriate, and have fun. If you want to run a dwarf warband but don't like the idea of dwarf wizards, call him an engineer, and all his spells are alchemical gadgets with spell-like effects, and Bob's your uncle.

I thought gnomes because one type of wizard can create constructs. Just seemed fun.

The US is using unemployment (plus $600 a week extra. Basically more than what I would make ). Plus unlike most other hospitals in my area we are guaranteed to keep our jobs afterwards and return with current pay levels, vacation, longevity and retirement. So it’s not as bad as it sounds. I don’t think I’ll be cut, but it might happen.

Thanks . I was just reading some of the reviews online. Going to watch some videos here shortly. I want immersion, so I want to paint up the bases. Also looking at 3D print files for jungles and Aztec ruins. There’s a couple of KS right now, but $60 for files sound off to me, even though they are beautiful and massive. I found a few that are online for $6-10 for some scatter and those might do.

I really did get the superpower vibe off of ghost archipelago, which is always a win.

If you're thinking gorillas, what about the ones from Batman/DC? Grodd, Shaman, and a couple of Gorilla warriors. They're about 70mm high, great chunky figs.
Spoiler:

I looked at Grodd, but they are far too large for common troops. The Hellboy gorilla also looks like a bigger sized version of the Dust Tactics Blutkreuz gorillas and even has the same type nazi engineering on the arms. If I don’t use them for Frostgrave/ghost archipelago then they will be a nice start to a This is not a test or other post apocalypse warband.

Had a half hour this morning, so got a nurgling done .

Raising the banner high for Papa Nurgle.

Well I officially begin a 13 week furlough after work on Friday. I know it’s nothing new in this time as I’m sure plenty of you all are off work as well. My new position is great, and I a more assured the same spot and pay when this surge ends. Luckily with the US passing the Cares act I’ll actually make more on unemployment than when I was working . My hospital chain has furloughed 2000 employees this week, many of us in the business office, but they are taking care of us by paying for our benefits during this time and we are still accruing personal time/vacation days while on this furlough. Other hospitals in the area are just laying off employees who have to reapply for positions when things return more towards normal.

So what does this mean? Still looking at finances, but probably ordering that ender3. More time for Nurgley things. Major house repairs/ a few remodel jobs planned.

Stay safe, stay strong and stay 6’ away from me .

Thanks guys. Work situation will be fine. My company is doing what’s best for overall business, and taking care of us in the process. More than I can say for a lot of people who are hurting right now.

Because Graven painted up a GIGANTIC gorilla, I felt the need to paint up a gorilla of my own . Mine might not be as big as his (wait this is sounding poorly ), but what he lacks in size he makes up for in shear power....and an energy field generator on his back doesn’t hurt .

Bounding forward is POWER GORILLA

I really loved this sculpt and DUST tactics has squads of this guy without the cables and power packs, but I just don’t feel the need to spend that sort of money. Seriously you guys know how cheap I am.

I think the flesh-colour makes them that much more horrific, because it makes them RECOGNIZABLE. It's not just "oh gross monster," it's "oh man that thing looks almost human!" in a way that plays with the uncanny valley.

Had to look that up , but yes he loves his bells.

Day one of my Furlough . How have you all handled it. I’m not one for sitting around the house. Two jobs, running kids places and going to see parents/grandparents has always kept me sane....or at least at the level I have been at. Got a scolding for wanting to go to Walmart, then given a list of things to get . Took a nap....still half a day to fill up.

So I painted/repainted for the third time the big Aztec looking gorilla like guy from Blood Rage. Now he matches Power Gorilla. I think I will call him The Great Ape who fell from the sky. Need to find an English to Aztec translator .

I have a feeling I’ll be looking into more gorillas and apes for no real reason.

I’ve got to get these monkeys off my back .

Ive been blocking in colors on some Nurgle stuff and playing Monopoly with the family. Between all that I’m doing some clean out of the basement and ran across this fellow. Some super smart gorilla from the game The Others:seven deadly sins. Forgot I even had him, so it was fate calling me to paint him right away. I could not however allow him to have better fashion sense than me . There is no purpose to these guys, just absolute silliness. Oh well. More done out of the mountain of shame.

I also found a bunch of Mantic zombie ogres. I think I could paint them up to be Plague trolls. Anyway I am getting rid of stuff. Two trash bags full of old projects going to the dump.

Thanks Dr. H. Having three kids I always tell guys who are bragging that same thing .

Well, worked at church this morning. Then I got home and while doing some hobby cleaning and looking at those zombie trolls from Mantic I remembered that all the bases from the Dungeon Saga Dwarf kings quest had stone looking bases. I thought those would be a great start. For frostgrave. Indeed. When I went and pulled out the three boxes of Dwarf Kings Quest that I got off the dented shelf at Miniaturemarket years ago I started pulling out all the undead guys meaning to rip them off the bases to reuse them. Good thing I remembered that the frozen city has a large undead population, I can use a good amount of these undead and even the demon guys for the random monsters in the frozen city .

Even the characters from the game make possible warband members. So before people get yanked off the bases I think I’ll do some more organizing and possibly build a warband or two.

There’s twelve models on the random table.
L to R
Two skeletons, 3 armored skeletons, two ghouls, two zombies, a wraith(undead ghostly thing) a minor demon and an Imp. I have duplicates of almost all of these that later can be used in case I roll on the chart again and get the same/ similar results. But this is a start.
