Try Empire as they've the most "normal" army to get used too in that game (if you were playing TW Warhammer 2 I'd suggest high elves for the same reason). Also play a few games, expect to lose but get a feel for the game before trying to read any guides or watch lets plays and such for tips on youtube. You want to be familiar with the interface, controls, the different stages and where stuff is so that you can make use of the tips and tricks you learn. Otherwise you'll overwhelm yourself and it will feel more complex than it is.


A few tips
1) Don't forget you might not have as many formations as in other TW games (if you have played them) but many units now have abilities to activate. Some of which are very time dependant (eg some flying units have bombs which only fall when you press the button so you've got to time them right). Heroes and mages can have multiple abilities and spells. So instead of formation micro you've ability micro.

2) Heroes in this game (unless they are ranged heroes of course) are far more combat heavy and capable. Its not like many other TW games where you hide your general at the back and only pick off weak targets; Warhammer generals are front or at least second line generals.

3) Remember all races and dlc carry over into Warhammer TW 2 so nothing is wasted. Even the blood DLC carries over (you only need to buy it once).

Finally cracked and bought Indomitus.

Ordered online from Mighty Ape a five-woman squad of Howling Banshees, a squad of Harlequins and a Wave Serpent. Howling Banshees here in NZ at GW are $105.00 but at Mighty Ape, they were $77.00, still too much in my book, but never mind. But they're all I need now as I'm just playing Kill Team.

Cursed City. Just under the wire too, as it sold out in 2 minutes flat.

New Eltharion. Allowed myself two exceptions to my no new purchases vow since Jan2020. Him and Fabius were too cool to pass on.

Bought a bunch of paints from AK Interactive: Red primer, a few random 3rd Gen acrylic colours and most of the Xtreme Metal colours I fancied, along with the black primer/microfiller and Xtreme Cleaner.

If the Xtreme metals turn out to be a solid purchase, I will use them for painting up my Planetary Emripers tiles. I've wanted to paint them for ages, but always wanted a weathered TMM dark steel/chrome look to the tiles and didn't know how to pull it off.. Why metal? I figured it'll look stylish and I can use the same tiles to represent any Planetary campaign I will ever need, regardless if it's a desert/glacier/martian/terran style environment. I was thinking of using a darker metallic base and then using either chrome or gold for the spaceports/hives and other buildings so that they'll stick out from the rest of the tileage. Oh and burnt metal fx for the craters

Bought some terrain instead of going for Cursed City, might wait on it for a while.

Fallout wasteland warfare, HIGHLY recommend avoiding it like the plague, poor quality miniatures for high price, decent but not really great rules. Overall I was not at all impressed with what modiphius did with this.

I had a slight fixing of my Anargrin mini's face; he looks a lot better now. He looked cute, like a koala or something, which wasn't what I was going for as he's meant to be a badass sorta James Bond Expy (in one scene of my novel, he infiltrates a bad guy's party using the alias "Jerrick Bane", then manipulates the bad guy's daughter to get close to their enemy) So cute isn't what he should look like lol. He also painted the highlights and low lights of his blue shirt. I painted his pants with Wraithbone or beige as he's usually wearing a Beige two-piece suit with a blue pinstriped shirt and navy blue tie. Sorta his signature look. Not sure if I should use Seraphim Sepia for low-lights as it's for stone, it seems. It doesn't matter, really, does it?

Bought some new plastic GW glue as the crap I bought a few weeks back is frigged with a lot of the glue has dried inside the tube and I ruined it by trying to make a hole to get the glue out.

I got a very sweet deal on a 2k pt Bone Reaper army the other day.
I hadn't really ever looked at building this force, and considering that I just recently added both Chaos Dwarves & a whole bunch of the new Lumineth stuff....
But at the price it was offered to me at, well, when opportunity knocks.

I grabbed the Mantic Games Star Saga web bundle while it was available. Total bargain. Masses of minis, scatter terrain and bits - worth the money by miles even if I never play the game.

Just got a bunch of Wargames Atlantic's Les Grognards in the mail today. 3 boxes of infantry plus one box of Heavy Weapons/Command. Pretty nice models and much cheaper than GW's Guardsmen, even if you have to buy bases separately.

A box of tooth picks and some 5 minute epoxy. Have to have a way of making all that terrain.

Friend of mine who I've been playing with since around 2002 is only just starting to get terrain as well. Me? Well I adore building terrain. It's why I have so much of it.

Building terrain is one of the places where you have the most freedom, but even that seems to be heading down the monopose route of regular GW minis.

A whole load of Kromlech and Spellcrow stuff arrived during the last days to slowly build up my Feral Orks. Alternative legs, naked torsos, guns, rockets, bottles, grenades, all the good stuff. Also 12 Squigs that will be unit fillers in larger Boyz squads.

I think the new kits are very nice but it makes things very homogenous. Aside from the original Necromunda terrain or what came with the 2nd/3rd Ed boxes, everything was scratch built in my past life. A lot of it looked crummy but it definitely meant that my board looked different to my friends’ and to the local GW shop. Your thread is really nice because it shows me how you can be a lot more original with the kits.

Plus I have some ideas for things based on stuff I never managed to do from long ago, like a toxic sludge river and alien flora (I like the idea of an old Imperial world being rewilded like modern Chernobyl). I didn't intend to spend money this month but I went to my FLG and saw they had the Nolzur's Adventurer's Camp in stock. I've been trying to find a reasonably priced copy for almost a year. Places only that had it the shipping was stupid, and local stores only had the pre-painted version for 100 bucks.

So naturally I snagged it ASAP. Uggg, just another bunch of models to add to my pile. I'll probably start prepping it tonight.

I have been gifted some 15mm Romans, but they're missing a few shields.

Easy enough to find online, but postage is more than the cost of the shields I need.
Guess I have to buy some buildings to make the postage cost worthwhile.

A FW Bonegrinder Mega Gargant.

I found out this evening that my undead 1/2lings are likely facing a FW Bonegrinder Mega Gargant in the 1st game of our escalation league this week.
(Hmmm, things seem to have escalated quickly....)

Anyways, being optimistic that my pint sized zombie hoard will be up to the challenge of killing this thing (& then turning it into a zombie on a 6+), I went and ordered myself a Bonegrinder!
If it arrives in time I'll paint it up as a zombie. And then when the pts increase enough include it in my roster as an ally. Till then I think I'm going to need a bigger Corpse Cart....

Just bought some light grey spray paint to basecoat my Jaroaite-Extremist Chaos Cultist proxy models. I'm going to paint them the white and gold of their religion and the leather parts brown. They're certainly going to look different lol. Then bought some DnD minis one for the Hunter Wilom who's Anargrin's apprentice and he's a bitf a typical young mage type. Another that's a sorta a werewolf to be Emilia another member of Anargrin's five-man band. Too bad I couldn't find a archetypal werewolf, but oh well. And a couple of others. Wanted a skinny woman with a big ass a battle axe to represent Jelcine to but never mind.

I bought a box of ork boyz from GW to finish off a unit before the codex drops. I also got a air speeder from Star Wars legion.

Local GW store opened for the first time since December so finally picked up Codex Death Guard and got a few paints so I can finally tackle the Colonial Marines from the Aliens game.

Bought a Reaper “Dark Dwarf Cleaver” to use as a Despot for my Chaos Dwarfs along with yet another skin tone paint.

Just bought a bunch of older edition army books to add to my collection.

Added a Chaos Sorcerer in Terminator Armour to my Death Guard. Kitbashed him with a head from an AOS Chaos Lord on Karkadrak, added a full skeleton in gibbet to his staff, and replaced one shoulderpad with a giant Tyranid skull from the "Ooops All Skulls" decoration pack.

May had a huge pile of new things for my armies. Dragons for ASoIaF. Experiments for Crucible Guard. Some new Avengers and villains. I've got a lot to paint.

Gamma Wolves and No Room for a Wallflower(LancerRPG) because there's always room for more big stompy robots.
Also Stargrave rulebook because I wanted to see what the buzz was about. Never played frostgrave but I'm liking the simplicity and openness of the rules for pickup games, and now have more reason to make the oddball non-40k scifi figs. Hope the expansions have more weapon and HtH options.

Between my two FLGSs, over the course of this weekend I picked up the new Sisters of Battle codex, a Sororitas Rhino, 2 boxes of Sacresants, a box of Paragon Warsuits, a Palatine, a Dogmata, and Morvenn Vahl. That should keep me busy for quite a while (as if I didn't already have a massive pile of shame... ).

The Stargrave Nickstarter: Crew box+ Rulebook. Added a Mercs box, and a Rogue Stars blister. That arrived in early May.

Well, now I need Sci-fi terrain, as prior to this I had little need for it, so I ordered a Battlesystems Cyberpunk Core set of printed cardboard terrain off of eBay. The cyberpunk set is a little small for 3' x 3', so I've ordered a Frontier Core Set. The Frontier set also has the added feature of floor tiles so you can add elevation. Probably should have ordered the Frontier Core Set in the first place, but 1) it was out of stock at the time, and 2) I like the cyberpunk look better. Anyway, also added a Med-Lab expansion, a Detention Cell expansion, and an Arrival Bay expansion. So I should have enough terrain for a densely packed area as recommended in the rules.

If anyone is curious about the Battlesystems terrain, I posted pics in my Stargrave Terrain Thread. When I get the Frontier Core Set, I'll post pics of that set as well.

Also arriving in May, but kickstarted more than a year ago, was Oath: Chronicles of Empire and Exile. It's a board game which claims to have a legacy component, so subsequent games will be influenced by what came before. Since I have not had a chance to play this, I don't know how true that is. However, it sounded interesting enough that I backed it. Unlike the original legacy games, you don't destroy stuff, and the game can be reset when desired.

A little late to the party on BSF but I really valued them making a 40k Warhammer quest game chock full of obscure monsters so we picked it up during the COVID lockdown. It was fun to build, paint and play with my wife.

Currently waiting for a set of army painter clippers and Sisters of Battle Celestians to arrive for my other half.

I should be getting the Loyalst Legios book, Cawdor cards and Dice in the same box.

Will be ordering the Cawdor book soon.

Gojira help me, I bought two Playmates Godzilla vs Kong mini-monsters (~5cm high) on Ebay. I managed to find a Kong figurine that was going for less than $40, and I had to have a Godzilla figure too. I just know Playmates will release these in NA before these arrive in the mail...

Also pre-ordered the limited edition of the next Gaunt's Ghosts novel (way overpriced but I'm a fanboy so yeah) And the new Sabbat Worlds short story anthology (not hobby per se, but it sorta is in a technical sense)

Azyrite ruins seem to be moving to "no longer available" on the GW site. I wanted to own a set of each so I hopped down to my FLGS and picked up the Azyrite Townscape they still had in stock.

I bought Direchasm and the cursed city card pack, for Warhammer Underworlds.

Picked up Blackstone Fortress, a couple of things for my Death Guard, and some Uniform Grey spray paint.

Just ordered a board game & it's 6/7 player expansion (It's a Wonderful World).
I played this resource managment/victory point building game the other night with my usual BG group. Usually I don't duplicate games someone else in the group has (no real need), but I do occasionally play board games within my D&D group - so I'm always on the look out for 6 player games that that group would like. They'll like this one

I picked up a new painting handle, two paints, and Chewbacca for SW Legion.

Desperate for some Bestigor axes (I had enough for 10, despite having 13 Bestigors) I found someone selling a set of 5 on eBay.

Also picked up a Bloodwrack Medusa from the same place, so that gives me a Snek Lady boss to go with my Daughters of Khaine snake girls for Quest.

And I may have bought a second Sergeant Ripper to turn into an Orlock leader.

Caved in because I am weak and snagged the LCTB Middle-Earth stuff.

Also bought some weathering powders and basing materials for my budding Heresy force.

About ten paints, a 2nd Raider for my Wych Cult, The House of Faith and a 2nd squad of Wraithguard for my 3rd lad's Iyanden.

Just bought a few D&D minis to use as proxies for playtesting my Angaran TT Skirmish game. I might go to a local store sooner or later to playtest it more there. Would like to have them painted by then. Will be hard as their heads are way smaller than GW or Hero Forge minis.

Bought more basing materials. Should have everything I need now.

Also grabbed some oil painting basics. Time to branch out a little.

Bought a Beholder D&D mini, going to use it as a proxy for a Jaroai as when I went into the store I saw it and it gave me the idea for a scenario to play in my Angaran Chronicles TT Skirmish game where one side is summoning a Jaroai (The summoning one is represented by the Shoggoth Reaper) when the other side it trying to stop its summoning by x number of turns (the summoned Jaroai is represented by The Beholder) I'm going to hopefully playtest the scenario with a friend tomorrow about to type it up and make the stats for a Jaroai tonight.

Picked up 2 sets of Dominion krule boyz for less than half the RRP of one box. People be overvaluing the rulebook when splitting the box, I think.

Bits from Victoria Miniatures, including a Scrapper's Rejects Bag. With the mix of torsos, legs and heads I can probably get two slouch hat infantry (WW2 Aussies I think), and two or so Not-Tanith First & Only. In the case of the Aussies, there were rejected rifle arms with the rolled sleeves, so they are effectively complete. For the Not-Tanith, I'll need to use some of my stock o' bits. There were also greatcoat legs, which I did not need, but gives me an extra option for another project (had the legs and torsos already, now I'll compare the older legs with the Victoria legs, see which looks and fits better).

Got a few more old metal Delaques off eBay...should be enough for a full gang now.

It's been 30+ years since I last used aerospace fighters in BT, so I couldn't tell you what a Chippewa does anymore. But the minis cool looking.

It's okay, at least I didn't buy the whole box. Just wanted to post a lil heads up so that others can be aware of the scale difference.

Picked them up with the intent of using several in a Destruction force for Warcry.

Once home & looking at the War Cry entries.... Holy Gak are ogres expensive in that system! That one box, that makes 4 ogres (leadbelchers or Gluttons)? That's the only box I'll ever need. I can make 3 of them Leadbelchers (losing virtually nothing melee-wise), use the 4th to represent a leader of some type, and have a 4 model strong force that's just shy of the 1k pt Wre Cry cap.

I bought a bunch of Underworlds Card sleeves. Found some of the universal sleeves from Season 1 at my local store, and bought all of them lol.

A Lost Kingdoms Lammasu with Infernal Dwarf Mage rider from a 3d Print service from eBay, and Chrome Hammer Ascension which is a solo fantasy cyberpunk minis game. (Think unbranded Shadowrun. So Troll heavies, Goblin hackers, and Elf street samurai. It's minis agnostic of course.) You generate a group whose goal is to take down a Corporation, which you randomly generate. Then missions are generated and your misfits complete them either by stealth or combat.

While I had no intention of buying either product at this time, they were in my Watch or Wish Lists and I was sent discount offers. The Lammasu & rider was at the best price I've EVER seen it anywhere, so I figured best buy it now, even if I won't assemble it or paint it for at least a year. (I'm busy with my Stargrave purchases from earlier this year. Enjoying it too.)

I used some discount codes for Mantic and got the mixed box for zombies and ghouls for my small collection of undead along with a mindscreetch and a sprue of scarecrows for my nightstalker army.

Picked up an Ogroid Myrmidon for AoS/Warcry use.

And, just like the Fomoroids I got last week, it included stat cards in 8 different languages. So my card stock Fomoroid army will now have 7 leaders.

10 more Intercessors, 3 Outriders (now I can field 9 if I want - led by my Biker Chaplain! ) plus the Dark Imperium Gravis Captain.

Man I wish Outriders had options and could be fielded in units bigger than 3. Certainly would make them even better with my White Scars.

Haven't spent any money in a month, but I did get two large boxen of Dungeons & Lasers delivered.

Base adapters.

2 boxes of Khorne Berzerkers bought at different times so half are on 25's and half on 32's. I was just going to run them with their original bases at first, but my army list splits them into 3 squads of 8 which would mean one squad would have mixed bases. Thought that was a bit naughty so bought some base adapters.

Deathrattle Sepulchral Guard for my slowly growing fantasy bestiary meant to be used in solo/co-op games like Lasting Tales, Sellswords and Spellslingers, Rangers of Shadow Deep etc.

Ive been ok at not adding anything to my paint pile but my FLGS had a sale and I managed to not only pick up some old blisters for the re-release of Chainmail they did back in 2000 but I also picked up Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps boardgame. So more for the pile it seems....

Got myself the last two Broken Realms books and a spraying stick - - yes its not that complex but darn it I'm stick of dealing with doublesided sticky tape on wooden sticks (which always seem to go missing for me or someone else pinches all the tape)

Been wanting to buy a classic werewolf mini to represent my character, Emilia in the TT Skirmish game I'm making and found one today, a white metal Reaper mini at one of the hobby shops in my city, but with a weapon, which I'm going to clip off. So pretty happy with the find.

Got a text this afternoon from the one local shop that my monthly order of x2 Dark Eldar Talos had arrived.

Amidst the ashes mission pack and a rattle can of leadbelcher.

Stargrave and a new set of D12s for Horizon Wars.

The FLGS had a "B2G1" sale on Tenfold Dungeon. Even picked up their sf Facility set (as well as Town and Sewers), even though I don't play sf games.

It's still cardstock (and the fixed room sizes make the set less versatile than conventional modular game tiles), but the art is incredible and I'm sure not going to paint my unpainted plastic terrain that well.

Unfortunately, the KS was pretty much a failure, and the company behind the terrain is out of business. So if you find the sets at a good price (I paid $40 per set, 12 rooms each), pick them up to supplement your terrain collction!

Just bought a copy of the Vertigus terrain box to add to my KT:Octarius. Got lucky and found a shop which still had it in stock. That strange vox tower which comes in the box is just brill! Contemplating on maybe buying the Sector Sanctorus next, they seem to be getting harder to find as well now since GW stopped selling them.

Collecting 40K terrain is a PITA, Many kits I'd love to buy have been OOP for years, like those lovely defence artillery emplacements and that cool looking big bunker. They were intoduced when the Wall Of Martyrs terrain came out, but GW hasn't reintroduced them since..

Not sure if a pre-order counts as a purchase, as it won't ship until September, but I've pre-ordered Quarantine 37, the first Stargrave expansion, two of the new metal blister (guard dogs and Robotics Experts), and some Oathmark single frames. The Oathmark sprues are why I'm ordering direct from Northstar: they don't normally sell single Oathmark sprues, but are doing so until 30 August. I'd have bought some Frostgrave sprues too, but the ones they have available I've plenty already.

Aand just blew my remaining candy money on a near-scalper priced Caestus Assault Ram. Wont be buying anything else for a while.. But now I finally got one! Been lusting after one for over a year now

That brings my Deathwing to 134 Terminators, I'm going to get one more 10 man squad of Relic Terminators also. After that I'll add one more Terminator Librarian and one Terminator Chaplain and I think my Deathwing will be good to go.

I have been extremely tempted to get the tar and blood river sets.

Perhaps a gloss varnish applied by brush, depending on what material the tar/blood rivers are made of.

I have been extremely tempted to get the tar and blood river sets.
I wonder if I can find a way to make the rivers have a glossy finish though...

The tar is lovely, I have the pools. Blood looks like a toy for toddlers is trying to be metal, too bright and flat.

The new Kill Team box set. Since they're multi-part instead of the usual monopose, I'm really trying to work out the most interesting poses that I can. There's going to be some light conversion work in my future.

Boy am I glad I got an 'old' Battlewagon last week at the heavily reduced old price.

And... I may have also bought another set of Octarius terrain...

But, with 3x Octarius terrain, a Mekboy Workshop, 2 extra sets of junk piles and 2 Bosshead Bunkas, I can do a pretty nifty Ork shanty town table.

D&D/PF Elemental miniatures of all types & all sizes. Oh, and a toy crocodile because nobody makes a gargantuan croc mini that I know of.
We have a new PF1 game starting up & the DM told us to make 13th lv characters. Oh the fun I shall have as a 13th lv PF1 Summoner....

The other day I grabbed a AOS spirit host box and a box of GW's newer trees.

A bunch of the dorky plastic catachans, love em.

One Page Rules Firefight to play them in. Also, for a video review down the line. It's an interesting system for sure, although a lot of the ancillary rules in the paid PDF feel very much like afterthoughts. It gives you the ability to play with a looot of toys, though!

Some OoP metal Easterling and Kazard Guard minis for MESBG.

Almost managed to nab an old Daemonhunter scribe too for an insanely good price, but got out bid in the dying seconds by some bugger.

Had to get the crimson Court for my Soulblight Gravelords. Currently in an Escalation league.

For sure! If you also got spare STC ruins and a Killzone Sectorus, those kits mix very nicely with the new Ork terrain (mekboy workshop bits are orkified STC ruins already), the heights of those terrain kits are a match as well

I'm going to go even further and add some Zone Mortalis Gang Hideout pieces into such a mix.. once I get all the separate kits I mean

As it happens, I do have the Ryza Pattern ruins (I mean, of course I do - look who you're talking to! ), but it's already painted up (you can see it here and here). Not sure if I want to make the Ork stuff match that.

Yeah the Gang Hideout is a longterm thing that I'm going to have to wait on. Got too much other terrain to do in the meantime.

A Viking Longship model (that I hope is big enough*) + 1x box Ogre Gluttons, 1x box of Gnoblars, 1x scraplauncher/ironblaster, & 1x Slaughter Master.
Add that to the 4 Leadbelchers, 1x Firebelly, & 1x Maneater (pirate) that I already have....

While writing up some enemy ships/crews for our coming D&D Prirates game I had an idea.
Of course it'll be some time before the characters & their crew are ready to face a longship full of Ogres + their gnoblar slave rowing crew hurling scrap at them. But that just gives me time to get these guys built.
And it'll double as small Sigmar army as well.

*If the boats not big enough? Then I'll just order another & make a Viking inspired Catamaran.

Now lockdown is overish I finally went into town to buy some Chaos Black primer. That was all on 'hobby' stuff today. But I spent too much money today either way lol
