Managed to find someone selling a Derelict Manufactorum, a truly wonderful kit that contains a unique sprue available no where else.
Including shipping it was still 25% off. That gives me the 6th one of these I could never get a hold of at the time they were still on sale. Allows me to complete the Destroyed Fuel Processing Plant I've been working on, gives me another stack to Lothal Tower could potentially go to 5 stories tall, and leaves me all the necessary parts to complete the overgrown Imperium sections of my Death World table.

A bunch of crates/barrels/treasure chests/other- misc-things-you'd-find-on-a-ship for our upcoming Pirate themed D&D game.
Dirt cheap copies of Codex:Tau & The Greater Good PA volume.
As I'm simply steam-rolling every opponent in our 40k Crusade league with my Necrons, I figure it's time to switch things up for the next time.
I'll dig my Tau out of storage in the coming weeks & get them ready while we shift into a Sigmar PtG campaign.
I'm told that the Tau are terrible in this current edition.
Challenge accepted. Let's see how brutally effective I can make the Tau.

The new Kill Team Octarius box, the compendium, a new box of Howling Banshees, another box of Harlequins (might make them my main in Kill Team 2: Electric Boogaloo) and the Munitorium armoured containers set, and all of it was cheaper than buying from GW here even with the GST and the large Amazon shipping costs.

Today was an expensive* day hobby wise....
1x Viking Longship model suitable for minis wargaming use,
1x new 40k Ork codex
1x new AoS orc codex
1x new AoS Stormcast codex
1x newest fey themed 5e D&D book
1x Necron Doomstalker
1× Necron Silent King
And several misc people minis that'll get used in our D&D game....
Seems exce$$ive, right?
But really it's just funds that had been set aside for GenCon. Since I'm not spending that $ on a Hotel room again this year.... So still within the "hobby budget" for 2021.

Concerning the packaging, not weird at all.
Could be either
1) just a general cost saving step.
2) if produced recently, say in the past year, there may well be production/shipping/supply issues affecting the availability of those custom styrene trays.
I mean, nobody ever considers the packaging that stuff comes in - but someone sure as he'll MAKES it. Out of something. Wich comes from somewhere....
So if that supply chain gets disrupted, guess what? No custom styrene trays for you.

Well depends on how much you spend on models If you spend 10x money and effort to terrain it might be odd
Generally problem is otherway around. Not enough money and effort spent on terrain.

I've spent ~500€ on terrain this year, and about 350€ on models, so not 10x. OTOH I'd probably spend even more money on terrain if I had unlimited storage space
Only excuse I can come up with is always being super inspired by the miniature scenery used in OG scifi movies. Maybe I want to try to achieve a similar level of excellence subconsciously by throwing money at the problem? Oh well, there are more expensive ways to lose money..

Supertank printer, which has been a godsend for printing rulebook PDFs and paper miniatures. Would recommend (with some research) if you intend to make frequent large-volume printouts. Much better cost-wise in the long term than a cartridge inkjet printer. Makes it a bit easier to keep away from screens now that it’s no longer necessary to have the rules on a screen.
Printed out a good chunk of that Pokemon TTRPG (800 pages) and it only took about 1/5 of the ink in the printer.

38888
Post by: Skinnereal
For magnetisers, more arms are the thing. I used all of mine up from the regular kit.
For anyone else, that's a lot of wasted options, with only 4 weapons to use from the pile of 20 in the set.
I can just see what look like a Las sub-carbine in the set though. That makes it almost worth getting.
[update]
That got me to check again, and the "Aircraft and Aces – Asuryani Cards" are back on pre-prder.
So, I just added the "Van Saar Weapon upgrade" to the order. That sub-carbines won me over. Lots of melee options and headshelped there.

Friend of mine's "paint and tools" box used to be just a crate with everything shoved inside. Reaching in there was always a gamble, as you were just as likely to retrieve a paint pot or brush as you were a new case of tetanus or arterial bleeding.

I've actually almost completed my Callidus Assassin already which made me happy. As I said earlier it'd be awesome to be able to play them in Kill Team 2: Electric Boogaloo, maybe two of them take up a Fire Team? So you could have seven guardsmen working alongside a Vindicare and a Callidus? I think balancing Eversor Assassin and his explosion would a bit of a bastard though lol

That's not an issue, if you buy the regular kit you'll have plenty of arm/butts. The upgrade pack may hurt only if you managed to find extra bodies (with no weapons) for cheap, and want to combine with the upgrade pack, which is not really likely considering the cost of the regular 10 man kit that is low enough that getting bitzes for something like 10 bodies is actually more expensive than getting the whole box.

My aim was to cool off for a few months - maybe to the end of the year - and not buy anything for a while (with one very specific exception). I was even going to pass on the new KT box (except for a few rare Sector Imperialis frames from that box). But, thanks to GW's Soviet/CCP-style "unperson-ing" of their various terrain kits, where things will just go OOP without warning or explanation, and the recent revelation that the Necromunda Gang Stronhold is now gone (according to GWUS), my hand was forced. So I picked up 4 sets, plus some extra walls and extra stairs/platforms. And the specific exception I mentioned? Well that's to get hold of 3 of the new Captain from Imperium Magazine (as two friends also wanted one), and Sergeant Castus.

My impression is that these days the mail order and phone staff are little more than the same as GW store managers. Which means most of the time the information they have is the same information that is on the GW webstore. Ergo they don't go and ask the web-store manager or the production staff for updates. They just tell you what the webstore tells them. Which IN THEORY should work because its tied to the Warehouse inventory system.
However in practice it doesn't work. GW makes changes sometimes appearing to change on the fly which throws up confusion; furthermore GW has an error on the webstore (The FW side has it appearing a LOT) where for some reason out of stock items get shown as discontinued. IT also doesn't help that any product change results in a new product code which means the old product has to be replaced in the system - which means the old gets discontinued. Sometimes you can catch the transfer when one is discontinued and the new is there; but often as not the discontinued is removed and its some tim before its returned.
Basically there's a communication breakdown between actual production staff and front-end support staff.
5269
Post by: lord_blackfang
Yep, precisely that. Then add some employees just straight up making things up to cover their ignorance for maximum chaos.
77922
Post by: Overread
It might not be them making stuff up, but trying to work within a system to provide an answer to a customer based on the company's general position whilst not being allowed/able to contact the relevant staff.
Part of this is likely just GW growing in scale and size. It's easy to ask production when there's only a dozen emails a day; but when you deal with hundreds suddenly it becomes a problem and someone higher up says "ok stop asking production you're interrupting their work".
Again in theory as GW has most of its company in-house they should really be on top of this - but they aren't. I think part of it is the hyper compartmentalising that GW does to protect its production secrets on what is coming and what is changing. Which has kind of always been there and got worse over the years - esp under Kirby and perhaps also as a result of dealings with WB and Lord of the Rings.

Who sells Rhino sides without the tracks? I mean OK it was clear from the picture and description that tracks are not included and I should have noticed but still...
I mean who buys a trackless Rhino side? Who buys Rhino-less tracks?
An easy fix with thin plastic card but c'mon!
Uh anyway I got 3 bare bones rhinos, coming in around $20 a pop, no hatches or extras which is fine since they'll be chaosed to hell and back. Fingers crossed this ends up looking good and not just a Rhino with random bits stuck to it...

Raises hand....
Why? Because sometimes you need to refurbish something.
EX:
Last year a local shop took in a sorry ass SoB collection.
It was a dirty, poorly painted, & poorly assembled mess. All the vehicles were missing bitz - including their tracks.
This player had slapped enough together to get playing, played a # of games, and then decided against 40k.
Then they left it sit in an open box on a garrage shelf for a year+ collecting dirt, never finishing the models & losing bitz. Including all the tracks apparently.
Then last year they needed some $.
The shop paid them pennies on the dollar.
I paid the shop dimes on the dollar for the force, invested around another $50 or so + some time (time was plentiful summer 2020....) and flipped it for a decent profit.

EDIT: Fixed 2, destroyed 2, not touching the rest. Turns out there's maybe a 2 degree window just below boiling at which the plastic is pliable, go over and it's going to warp like mad and get stuck that way.

28cmx21cm oval base(trying to turn smaug into the khorne lord & his dragon).
Damn this sort of small order from UK order gets expensive. 2.5£ for base itself. 5.95£ for postage. Well this was still cheapest source for this sort of weird base that I know. Then it comes here. Outside EU so I need to go through customs. That added another 2.6£ to the fee. Then local post office charges extra for packages that needs to go through custom which added about 2.7£ more to the thing so almost 14£ spent on one bloody base.
Alas not much supply on 280mmx210mm oval bases...Not that there likely is much demand either

Taking advantage of Heroforge's Black Friday sale: https://www.heroforge.com/
Enjoy $5* off any of our physical 3D printed miniatures with the code:
EpicLoot
STL and VTT digital downloads are on sale for $3.99, no code needed!
The code is good until 11-29-2021.
Now the detail is about the same as the early Reaper Bones figures, and the cheapest plastic they offer is $19.99 before the discount. Shipping within the US is $7.99, so these 3d printed figures are not cheap or very detailed. However, this lets you customize a character model and get something offbeat that you need but no one makes commercially. Like a cyberpunk kitsune (although maybe there is one on Etsy since I last looked at cyberpunk figures). So anyway, I bought two figures I designed, both for Stargrave. Also designed the cyberpunk kitsune, but not bought it yet.
Also kickstarted Colony 87 Wave 4 last month.

Oh yeah, I did also buy Kill Team: Chalnath book from ebay. Figured I can always get the minis later, but the book itself will be harder to find for a decent price once Chalnath box goes OOP. Dragon Castle (a board game).
3 different cyborgs from Urban Mammoth's Urban War line for use in Stargrave.
Astreia Solbright. [Wanted her, and since she's been discontinued, thought I'd better buy her now. The others I saw for sale had already been marked up.]
From Barnes and Noble, Bladeborn. It is Warcry light as a board game. So a hex grid, and no vertical movement. Otherwise, it is similar, even including a campaign system. Abilities activate off of doubles and triples, as the Wild dice have been removed. The simplicity is mainly any choice has been removed: everything is fixed.
Also included are cards for four other Warhammer Underworlds "teams" like The Eyes of the Nine, and there is a separate rules inset that gives Warcry stats and abilities for all six war bands. They each play as their own faction, not as their components would suggest. Thus the Beastman team uses its own ability card, not that of Beasts of Chaos as one might expect. Normally, the Eyes of the Nine would not be a legal team in Warcry as it mixes mortal and demonic Tzeetchians, but GW has made it its own faction with its own abilities.
While I may never play Bladeborn itself, I wanted the figures and it was cheaper buying them this way. And, hey, maybe I will play this as a board game. Quicker set up and tear down than standard War Cry.

All the other planes are 1:44 so I didn't really think about it. Later on though I decided it'd probably be too small if actually on the table - you know, after it lands/crashes & the plt disembarks.
Figured I see in a few days....

Plus a few other paints and some "tiny tufts" in preparation for my 15mm Roman project that's next in line.

The time has come….for me to continue my vintage book collections into 2nd Ed. The greatest Ed ever, because that’s when I cut my teeth properly and clearly that therefore makes it the best and if you disagree you’re wrong and silly and you’ve not though it through at all.
I’ve already got the Imperial Guard book, and I’m presently stalking a copy of Codex Eldar on the eBay. Reckon I’ll make like a Pathfinder and do what I can to snipe it.
I’ve no particular plan to buy them in any particular order. Rather I’ll see what’s what around each payday, and if I can get a good price on a book I don’t have, I’ll go for it. Though I’ll probably shelf them in publication order.
I may even rope my friend into a couple of games for old times sake.

The Tyranids one is the only one I have for 2nd edition (when I started) Its a great one too, I love it!
As far as purchase, I got the Custodes book and cards last weekend (nice that the points value is already outdated), resisted getting more models so far as I paint what I have and try to not get sidetracked!

Bought a box of Outcasts. Said they were on 'pre-order'. Very interested to see whether the store can get them, of if they'll have to get me 3 boxes of the single sprue. It didn't say 'Sold Out' like other thing that are 100% gone, so who knows?
Also got the Gravis Captain, 'cause that Chainsword version looks ace. Decided not not to get the Ancient.

A Union Brigade box for Black Powder Epic Battles (Warlord Games).
A couple of us are considering trying this game.
So we figure we'll start really small, invest $30some bucks, & split this box.
Comes with 300 infantry, 3 cannon, & 3 HQ guys. That'll be enough to give it a demo.
So I bought the box & another guys going to pick up a rulebook.

That's a good way to approach it. I looked at the main box set for Black Powder Epic and I was just overwhelmed thinking of trying to paint that all, not even knowing if it was something worthwhile.

They were not willing to substitute the Outcast box for 3 Hive Scum boxes. Waaaah!
So they cancelled the order and refunded me in store credit. Guess that's where I'm getting the Eldar/Chaos box now...

Cartaventura: Oklahoma.
It was only £12 and apparently its a card-based western in the tradition of "choose your own adventure". Having finished but not distributed a similar western game for android, I couldn't help but snap it up. Its also in a very small box so it seems ideal for travelling.

Eldritch Omens - Turns out, despite its UK and US price, it was not AUD$340 as I predicted, but AUD$290. Still stupidly expensive for a tiny amount of models*. Re-added the Primaris Captain from my cancelled order last week, and threw in a Hexmark Destroyer as it was on clearance, so got it for 25% off. * "bUt ThEy'Re At A dIsCoUnT iN tHe BoX!" A discount compared to what? Their eventual separate release, where they'll be even more of a a rip-off? Doesn't stop them from being a rip-off now. They're just less of a rip-off than they will be.

We'll see once the Paypal claims time out uncontested and automatically rule my way (gods I hope that's still how it works) if there's money in their account for refunds, in which case they all died and the system is still running by itself (had this happen once before), or there isn't and they really took the money and ran.

PayPal will refund you, then chase them for the debt, if their PP account is empty. If that’s any comfor?

Honestly it sounds like it deserves a thread of its own, scams/issues like that deserve highlighting in public.
And PP are generally pretty pro-customer in how they handle things. Certainly if you've presented your case sensibly, calmly and well and if they've not countered then there's every chance PP will refund you and then chase them. If they are trading through PP then that will be a big blow to them to get refund requests like that.
Also really strange if they are not communicating. I can understand listing stuff in stock and not shipping (eg waiting for the whole order to be in stock or their stock on website isn't tied to their inventory system perfectly); but no communications or replies or anything is a big red flag.

Got myself the WD with the Crusher Stampede rules, a single pot of pain and a white primer can.
I don't plan to run the Crusher army in the very short term (and with the codex coming soon-ish, probably not before the book is released unless an opportunity came for such a game), but for the curiosity of it mostly. The rules seems good, and hey, good Tyranids contend is very few and far between so Imma at least give that a read!
If it's still compatible with the new book, great, if not, no biggie, a single WD in probably 15 years isn't so bad and there's the rest of the magazine to read too

I made my two orders from them a month apart and from the order numbers it's clear they took 300 other orders in between... if they're all ending up like this it's a gakshow of epic proportions. And from their FB wall it seems this was like a mom and pop brick&mortar store that used to hold events and everything.
77922
Post by: Overread
I guess they could have hit the problem that not enough on-foot sales and events sapped them of income. Throw in rising shipping and a few delivery delays and they've like as not run out of operating money and rely on new orders to pay for previous orders. Which often is a slow, painful, drawn out death for any firm unless they can source an investment, a massive sales spike or otherwise overcome the deficit. Of course along the way refunds, chargebacks and such will all make it worse - as will lack of transparency and communication.

Yes, KR Multicase cuts the foam blocks to fit all sizes of infantry models, as well as thicker blocks for tanks, bikes, artillery, etc. Cost wise, you want to buy one of their cardboard boxes that fits a number of trays (rather than buying just a couple of pre-cut foam sheets). It is an expensive supplier, when you look at the cost of individual trays it looks even worse...but they have a flat rate for a box filled with trays which makes it more affordable.

If you email your model list to KR, they used to sort out a tray list for you to fit them all into.
Their auto-filler tool has got better than it was, and has a go at the same, using a list of models to suggest which trays to get.
At long as you know which type of box you want to get for the foam, which determines how much foam will fit into a box. 1 KRU is a standard cardboard box, and trays are rated as fractions of a KRU.
