the eyes were just too deep and small and I was just too tipsy to hold the brush steady enough... But no seriously I often regret leaving things unperfected. And for that matter the white stripes are not perfectly even and he needs highlghts on his armour. Maybe I need to concentrate more seeing as I'm not painting for play...
Well I hope to. I've stopped buying atm so hopefully I will finish what I've got - about 75 unpainted minis which includes 4 80s oldschool guardians, 2 scouts, a wraith-dreadnought thingy, a modernish exarch and a heavy wep team with anti grav lascannon. am definitely interested in hearing what you've got kicking around - maybe photos? Love oldschool - I will see if I cant get painting some eldar soon
s my latest marine - with massive claws! He is a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll. I'm saying he is a slaneesh marine but feel free to disagree. He has got saterday night fever and a bad case of the funk. He is desperately trying to find a club with UV lights and a strobe. He has just double dropped...
I'm painting an eldar! for the first time in 15 years... I think he is a scout, or maybe a trader or exile. He has two laspistols, a trenchcoat, gasmask and topknot.
Thanks everybody. I think I might have messed up slightly on the final glaze which has made him a little fuzzy - but viewed with the naked eye he has real battlefield presence.

Loving the claw, weety - can't help but think he'd look a bit better with the eyes painted, to give some more contrast to the face.
To late really - I've gone and painted it already! I will remember that for next time - seems to have worked out ok any way. THis isn't quite finished yet - metallics to go yet:
Automatically Appended Next Post: Maybe a few more washes too
I'm definitely not finished with this one yet - another wash on the cloak wouldnt hurt. a dash of silver on the guns and a highlight for the yellow, More work on the gems and a few other details. He is my prototype eldar after all
Love the eldar - more muted shades with a few bright spot colours really make it pop... Makes me want to strip & repaint some of my old minis, but I just bought a muck-load of Orks which I gotta get done, so it'll have to wait. I'll get my old skill fix here instead!
Nice work. I came to this thread via the frontpage link and have slowly gone through the whole thing over the past 3 days. I'm also an olde-timey collector and have a lot of the figures you've been showing, though not all.
The main difference of course is that many more of yours are painted! Looking at yours makes me want to post up some of my own old-school painted ones, though I don't want to mess up your thread. Perhaps I should start one of my own just for the old-school stuff.
Great work, it's been wonderful to revisit so many of the old classics through your thread.
Please do post pics if you want - I'm currently painting 3 eldar at the speed of treacle so you may as well - If you do start a thread please post us a link
Thanks all for the comments all. Sorry for my general absence. I blame xbox and my allotment.
In an almost entirely unrelated comment, noone can have failed to notice that the world is unraveling at the seams at the mo. And we may have to learn to survive in whatever crackpot world is left after the collapse of the world economy. So I recommend lots of tinned and dried food, a sawn-off shotgun and a suit of armour made from car tires and random scrap. Also convert car to run on pig-gak and replace windshield with a sturdy mesh...
Not buying any more minis at the mo - at least not until they start making them from silver... But I've got plenty to be going on with
Here is proof that I am painting - they are a long way from finished but I've got the basic balance of dark and light going here. Not sure what colours are going on top though.
Ooops. Sorry about that world unravelling thing, I found a loose thread and just couldn't stop myself from tugging on it. It wasn't till a few hours later I realised it was attached to the World Tree.
Bad x-box! Bad allotment! Stop eating into weety's time!
How's the growing going? I've been overdosing on runner beans and potatoes the last couple of weeks, bumper crop on my deck.
Classy old spock-ears there, like the guy with the call-centre head-set. Hopefully we'll see what colours you decide on soon...
Its the call centre of hot death! He calls up and asks if you are interested in purchasing a can of wup-ass.
Potatoes and spinach are on my menu and soon we will harvest onions and marrows and pumpkins. Personally I want to eat somethings flesh but I still have to go to the shop for that.
Makes my assorted herbs, fruit and chillis pale by comparison. Love the monochrome eldar, and happy childhood memories brought back (you going to tackle Harlequins anytime?)

Well, that's why you play NEcromunda, right? To practice your survival skills, right?
graven image - I would like to try some harlequins but I will have to buy some first unfortunately. But I love bright colours so they are right up my street
Nice work on the eldar weety... have many of those lying in a box somewhere myself. Not as nicely painted of course. Looking forward to seeing where you go from here.

I have been very distracted of late. But here are some finished eldar!! - Having trouble getting the camera to focus perfectly so I might try again tommorow.
Pen-zanith - in the south western end of the cornish star cluster, at the end of the A30...
The grey is built up from my usual black wash over white undercoat with wet blended white, a grey wash and a highlight - it is hard to get right as its easy to make it lumpy
yeah briancj its well old that catapult. I think these are some of the very first eldar to be made.
The A30 is an ancient webway portal along which other, more modern eldar come to bask in the exodite pen-zanith craftworlds rustic-ness. Bloody tourists...
I'm afraid cornwall no longer gets its electricity from hamsters as they died of old age and broken hips. So we are now powered by a contingent of small yappy dogs with "tail-wag" generators attached to their rears. We just have to keep throwing the chew toy. Bloody wires keep getting tangled though
Ohh commiserations. Those hamsters were much quieter than small yappy-type dogs. Didn't get ideas above their station from being fed food named Caesar either. Probably didn't chew the wires quite so often either.
Typical exarch, trying to impress the ladies with his big cannon
Go on, dig 'em out Gits. Can't be any worse than some of the very early ones I've posted. Done in the 'Red bit, Blue bit, pink splodge, pink splodge, pink splodge' style I was experimenting with at that time
OK... I think they were re-painted once from their original about 12 years ago... maybe more. In any case you guys will get a good laugh out of them. I'll post them tomorrow.
now i am curious as to what you deem horrible gitsplitta...
anyway... lovley eldars weety... seeing them even in so little numbers makes me think ablut future armies one day...gosh you do realize your blog is one of the deadliest when it comes to good fed wallets?
Forgot that I had a pic of some of my old models already in my gallery.
The two in the lower left were painted long ago and modeled after the original black and yellow pirate scheme that was in one of the really early rule books (I can see the diorama in my head). I just couldn't do the stripes back then (but with all my tranquility camo practice I'm pretty sure I could do them now). These need to be dipped and re-painted... but that's a project for another day (decade).
So, there is hope young painters! You too can get better with time and practice!
Those are RT/1st edition eldar. There were no such things as aspect warriors... just eldar troops. Back then they had missile launchers, las cannons, flamers, plasma guns, melta guns, power fists, etc.
About the only thing they had that was really different was the shiruken catapult. The guy in the lower left has a missile launcher and the guy next to him has the las cannon.
Rogue Trader/2nd edition Exarch - Shuriken Pistol and Web of Skulls
3rd edition Exarch - Shuriken cannon, raised, while pointing.
4th edition Exarch - Standard pose, interchangeable tempest launcher or missile launcher
Anything else is probably a Harlequin Death Jester or if it's particularly large and with a back banner formed from a spine, Maugan Ra - pics please so we can see!
It could well be the 3rd edition exarch - its helmet looks dark reapersh and it seems a lot newer than the death jester I remember.
Gits those are some really old minis! Very rare specimens indeed. I like the yellow and black scheme. Really need some more old eldar - I might just have to buy some now
The eldar raiding party expands! I dug these out of a dusty box today - I had forgotten all about them. Also I bit the bullet and ordered some old-school harlequins and guardians.
weetyskemian44 wrote:The eldar raiding party expands! I dug these out of a dusty box today - I had forgotten all about them. Also I bit the bullet and ordered some old-school harlequins and guardians.
I've got the lascanon version of that knocking around somewhere I think!
Said they'd be better than my old figs Gits, they've got more than 3 colours, plus shading/highlighting
Nice exarch there weety, and the gun crew too. Think I've still got a couple of the older(I think, more of a tripod feel) base unit for the gun, in fact I know I have, as I can remember trying to fit an ork to one
Thanks you guys! I'm painting the grav-platform and gunners now and lots more eldar are making there way here through the royal mail webway system. I think another 5 guardians and 5 harlequins... and a dark reaper aspect warrior to keep the exarch company
These guys have the funk - they have descended from the mothership to bring the funk to earth...
they are not quite finished yet - more work needed on the gun. I think the morning light plus my lightbulb is making them look a bit funkier than they are. More colourful like.
Monkey those arn't his lips - thats his "call center of death" microphone - I should define it more. But if they were his lips then I really see the resemblance! Blue steel it is.
Thanks all - I should be back a bit more frequently now I have eldar on the brains. I have undercoated my wraithlord walker thing from all the way back on page 4-5 or whatever. So who knows I might paint it!?
I actually still use that scout along with his buddies as my eldar scouts. The aren't as old as the previous models... but darn nice models all the same.
Just finished catching up on things after my hollies, and have to agree with all - those are some mighty fine Eldar! This Pen-zanith place, wouldn't happen to resemble a bunch of geodesic domes purporting to be "greenhouses" would it?
No that would be the eden craftworld... Penzanith is at least 30 miles/parsecs down the road. I like the eden project - it is the only rainforest I will get to see.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I live in penzance - and its in an area called penwith. Splice the two together and you get pen-zanith, which sounds kinda eldarish
I think the thrid from the left is like... a 2nd Edition guardian?? Helmet and pose isn't quite right to be one the originals. (look at the difference in helmet shape & the grill.
I had the same thought, certainly its different. The helmet is more upright, less sloped back... But on the other hand its hard to tell sometimes with eldar. They kept the same old sculpts alongside newer models, unlike the other races which were replaced wholesale in the second edition...
Ohh. Definitely looking forward to seeing some crazy quilt designs on those harlies
I was assuming it was just a different helmet on that guardian, just as not all marines had the same detailing. Mainly because I didn't think the chainmail made it into the second edition sculpts.
However, I'm relying entirely on my hazy memory for that 'fact', and I'll bow to the superior knowledge of a combined Gits/weety team-up
Eldar were my main army for oh... 12 years or so (RT through 3rd Ed). I'm not saying I can't be mistaken... but about the relative newness of sculpts... I'm pretty decent when it comes to guessing.
Yeah, it was all beakies, chaos and 'stealers for me RT era, although I kept an eye on everything else it's all a bit fuzzy. Which I blame entirely on copious alcohol consumption around the same time, and not at all on 4 decades of 'life experience'
More eldar in the post. These were from ebid.net
There were not many old eldar on ebid but they were very reasonably priced. I'm hoping for a few warlocks next.
The gaurdian is 1990 and the harlis are 1988. I think the reaper is 1991
Those are all Rogue Trader though - definately before 2nd edition as I have the old WD that introduced the Eldar army list in with the aspects, showing off the Eldar they painted - they even gave the Aspect Warriors triangular back banners.
And with Gits' comment about the earlier Guardians? The difference comes in with the Shuriken Catapult. The older ones have much 'sharper' edges - these smoothed down a bit in 2nd edition.
That's going to be a nice little group of harlies. And the old reaper is a classic. Static pose, but still a classic. I know I should have a couple of those somewhere, but do I know where? No.
Also, sent you a couple of guys I thought you might be interested in, think you'll have fun with them
I was just about to ask what kind soul sent me those two! A hive brat and a "hunter" - will have to look that one up. I dont know if it was deliberate but they arrived the day after my birthday! They might even distract me from the eldar
Well, it wasn't deliberate that they arrived a day late
The hunters were part of the releases aimed at Confrontation (the WD published rule set that turned into Necromunda), along with the various early gangers and scavvies. All of which I think hold up extremely well to today's minis. Figured the brat would be right up your alley.
Yeah I had vaguely heard of the whole confrontation gig. The hunter has got the old school lasgun and will be ready to paint soon. I've ordered some empire arms for the brat with big flouncy slashed sleaves cos I thought it would go well with the rest of his outfit
Yeah, empire arms would be good, I was thinking those or the old Space crusade scout arms - although that means having to sculpt one side. I've spent several years trying to decide on making that brat a rogue trader, or using him and the duplicate I have as identical twins in his retinue. Getting rid of one means I can probably focus on making him a trader now
Obviously that's 'now' meaning 'at some vague point in an undefined future'.
apparently people with hobbies live longer. I think thats because we just cant go dying when there is so much left unfinished!
I have a feeling that my brat will get his paint soon though. Its a perfect opportunity for a psychedelic monstrosity!! He will have a power sword and a laspistol and will be named Brad the Bratt son of Marquis Broderick the third.
I like that theory. That would mean there's a good chance of me still being around when the Great Crusade starts up. 'Just these last couple of RT beakies to finish....'
Well here are your contributions with arms, weaponry and primer. Brad the Brat and his faithful hunting servant Buggalug Snotsworthy. On his home world he is considered the height of fashion - but foreign dignitaries laugh at his mega-mullet as its been out of fashion for centuries on Terra
Automatically Appended Next Post: He is from the hive world Stinktopia in the Obtuse star cluster, famous for its exports of hallucinogenic dried toads and its backwards hairstyles
Sorry about the slowing of progress again - after my Birthday I though I would give up drinking etc for a month or two and it is giving me artistic block. I will get back in the groove soon.
I'm a bit stressed out at the mo as my studio has been going downhill for a while and I need to move to a different one - the "friend" I rent it off is screwing me over for rent and a lot of half finished work got broken by her cat supposedly - plus it keeps sh*tting in the corner and the smell is not helping me.
So wish me luck and hopefully I will have a cheaper, closer studio without cat-crap and I will paint all those loverly eldar
The Brat ganger arms are cool, i think i will steal that idea if you don't mind .
Good luck finding a new studio weets, and don't worry about the the progress , you still manage to make the rest of us look like were walking backwards when it comes to actually getting around to putting paint on the minis.
Good luck weety. A proper place to work in is important, especially for an artist. Doesn't need to be fancy or pretty, but it needs to be a place where you can feel comfortable and focus on your work.
This thread prompted me to register and post here. This is an excellent thread. I have found a new appreciation for the older figures that I never thought I would have. They are definitely characterful!
Great painting and good job on the mugs. I never would have even considered it. Too bad you can't think of a way to go into business selling them.
Thanks dude! I highly recommend dakka, it makes painting more fun when I can show it to others.
Mugs are more of a hobby at the mo - if I truly went for a full on business I think GW might have lawyers with something to say about it.
In the current financial world I'm more interested in survival than starting a business. Keeping food in the cupboard and the rent paid. If I can get through it without having to sell the minis, the kiln and the potters wheel that'll be a bonus!!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Harlequin photos to follow shortly
not laugh about a harlequin? where would be the point in that?^^ looks lovley and i like the chequerboard pattern on her chainsword! that was the style i had in mind when suggesting going eldar and doing harlequzins... seems i was prooven right^^
Surely it would be sacrilegious to laugh at a disciple of the laughing god Looks cool, but i thought you of all people wouldn't wimp out of doing the diamonds on the trousers . having said that i do see them on the chainblade though so i forgive you The tear is quite effective too. I have never painted one of those either, i picked up a couple for stand in brat gangers and i do like the look of them . But i have to say the new ones look really tempting too.
Have to say I was also a bit suprised to not see diamond leggings, but not to worry, it would be boring if they all wore those
On a different note, with you looking for a new studio should those who are after mugs for a certain celebration coming up at the end of the year (I don't want to name it this early, bad enough I've already heard it mentioned in adverts) order soon?
Monkey troll and others - I would suggest that you wait for a week or two and I will let you know if everything has gone according to plan - if it does then I should be making mugs in my dads glasshouse (its full of dirt anyway so he shouldn't mind - so long as I keep the poisonous chemicals away from the tomatoes) with much greater speed as its just down the road. So then I can take orders.
Thanks for the link theunicorn - it seems more complete than sololegends
Definitely diamonds on the trousers next time.
Also - farseer and warlock may be out of the stripper today!
I have recently been asked to paint some stuff for a friend's boyfriend for his Christmas present. I'm definitely not the best, but I do my best. Anyway... two of the figs I've been asked to paint are the Space Pirate and Space Thug old Rogue Trader figures. I want to take them and skip town after reading this blog.
you'll do fine I'm sure. Are you going for bright zany colors or a more grimdark approach? Either would work well for those minis. Feel free to post a pic on here!
Updates - according to that "collecting citadel miniatures" link a few posts above this dude is a harlequin warlock so he can zap people with his zappy powers at the same time as blinding them with his acid rave gear.
now you´re cooking with harlequins^^ this is what i had in mind! looks extremly cool... wnated to point out how funky that one is...but monkey beat me to it^^
OOOh now that is Britpopaliscous Diamonds ... Check
love the whole jazzy psychedelic effect. one of your most impressive minis to date, really captures the style that was intended for these guys , in fact i think your style is born for harlequins.
it has that early 90s late 80s fleetway comics thing going on.. think Zenith brats bizarre Rogan gosh
Rogan Gosh! awsome, a guy named after a surprised curry, who looks like a Hindu deity's teenage son on a carnaby street shopping spree! I wlll have to look into that for a giggle.
I would agree that the colourful style is ideal for the harlequins and I do love to splash a little colour around. The Idea with these two halequins was to take three main colors; blue, yellow and purple and then play around with them and put a splash of red and green just here and there. Backed up with the gaudyness of gold it makes for a very harlequinish feel.
For anyone who didn't know - the harlequin is based on a european traditional entertainer.
ooh don't me started on traditional European entertainment , i am a great big fat fan of the Commedia dell'arte especially the funky sado masochistic characters.
I don't post here often, but it's one of my daily stops! I always love to see what new thing you have come up with lately! You never fail to impress me! the Harlies are great! Exactly what I think of when I think of Harlequins...I don't actually think of them very often, but when I do, that's what they look like!
Aren't Spangles hard-boiled sweets from the 80s? They were square, so I suppose if you turned them slightly you'd get diamonds
Looks cool nevertheless. And you've got that blue/purple thing going on with the gun again. Is that blending or are you messing with interference colours too? Either way I like.
I remember Rogan Gosh, he was in that 2000AD spin-off comic, can't recall the name right now. Had a re-vamped Dan Dare too, possibly by Grant Morrison?
I saw a bit of Zenith, but had stopped with 2000AD when he was about, so don't recall the Brats Bizzare.
I hadn't heard of it either - I have friends who are well into their 2000AD and have piles of them. I have often enjoyed reading a bit when I have the opportunity. Sounds cool though right!
The blue/purple is tenticle pink (I dont think you can get it any more) with a watered down blue vallejo wash worked into it in a cunning way
Thanks RS jake its nice to hear from someone new - I often browse stuff for a while before commenting as well.
Cheers y'all I had better be off now - who knows I might paint another
I too think your oop minis are the boss, and your painting is amazing. I get too anxious sitting and painting that long myself, of course army painting is another flavor of boring no matter what you do...green pants, green pants, green pants, now belts, belts, belts, etc.
I spoke to the wwoman I'm painting for, and she and her boyfriend, who owns the minis in question, agreed to a lower fee in exchange for the two minis. So I now own the Space Thug and Space Pirate.
Of course, I need to finish all her minis before I can do my own. But to answer you earlier question, weety, I'll probably go grimdark.
Here are pics of the two figs, the space pirate is one you prev posted, this one has a laspistol in his hand, and it seems pretty flimsy. The other had the name "Space Thug" on it's base.
@Monkey & Weety , i have a soft spot for 2000AD so many great writers and artists cut their teeth on that comic.
i miss its rebellious spirit and its cheeky genius.
Both nice minis Valhalla, my copies turned to chaos fairly sharpish
I grew up on 2000AD, from about prog 6 or thereabouts, just after it came out anyway. Got a bit bored with it eventually (late 80's/early 90's I think), seemed to have lost some of it's spirit, and wasn't keen on all the re-boots of characters like Rogue Trooper - I'm rarely keen on any re-makes/boots in any format me, old-skool through and through
Revolver - that was it! Probably still have the first few issues shoved in a box in my folks garage.
I always get the feeling that there is a long drawn out storyline going on but I have never read enough consecutive comics to be sure. I just love the artwork on them though - I read a random Slain story where this massive celtic bloke with a riddiculously big axe leads an army of british celts in totally slaughtering loads of romans. I was filled with a brief rush of national pride seeing all those bloody decapitated romans. And its all painted in a realistic style, which looked pretty and was a good medium for lots of blood. That's the part of 2000AD that I always remember anyway. I think it was a late 90s one.
The horned god trilogy is a classic , bisley and pat mills doing their thang!
i have them somewhere a bit dog eared now though.
i did notice they have a mini of slaine now , and i am sure their was one of the horned god somewhere not official but still great, inf anyone knows what i am talking about and can provide a link i would be most happy.
Spoiler:
@Monkey wow , sprog six , the mighty tharg would be proud . I Have a aching to make tank girl form one of those escher bad girls. ..since you did transmetropolitork
@Weety great pic , the only slaine i read was the graphic novels , he wasn't in 2000AD when i was reading it. great art though.
Weety we demand you make a goliath into slain as tribute to the earth goddess Danu!
Yeah, Bisley's art is wonderful, but I still have a soft spot for Glenn Fabry's Slaine, from the original run, classic stuff, tried bidding on a few Fabry originals a few years back when I was grabbing original comic art, but they always went far out of my price range Had to make do with Ace Garp and The Mean Team instead
I always thought the GW possessed model from Mordheim would make a good base for a warped Slaine, and there was a potential Slough Feg too, back when they did the Albion supplement.
Thanks to this thread, I've really started looking into the older figs. I put in a bid on ebay for an old GW "Space Skeleton." It's this cool looking skeleton in the tattered remains of a space suit. If I win, and weety doesn't bid on it, I'll put up pics.
I shouldn't worry about me outbidding you Valhalla, I have a ban on frivolous shopping till december. Very cool choice of mini though - I will get one one day. Undead spacemen are always fun.
I am slowly working through a backlog of minis which haven't been painted or photographed yet - This lot just got undercoated - which implies they might get painted at some point - they are all classics
would have guessed so too...he has a ponytail..? good proof for wolven scouts i gather...
that warseer (?) on the secon pic to the left, i have high hopes for a cool faceplate of him (her?) from you weety...
may i ask why all peeps tend to think delaque are the pinacle of coolness? i seem to not get the hype here... they are so freakingly sought after... i just don´t get it...
I think its the trench-coat, bald head and sunglasses combo - a bit like Morpheus out of the matrix. They can look a bit samey though - I might give one a GS mohawk/Afro or sumthink like that
The delaque are so sought after because they were a good gang in necromunda plus they were the best choice for genestealer cultists. And they are just down right cool. I had almost 100 of them around 2 yrs ago.
Indeed I thnk they make excellent genestealer cultists - so far I've been painting them as chaos cultists but maybe I will do a sort of joint genestealer / slaneesh cult (you could do that back in the day).
I might get some painting done today as I am very ill and can't do anything else. I'm allergic to binge drinking... bummer
monkeytroll wrote:That's a very cool figure valhalla, an old limited edition, I've recently(ish) started re-painting mine. Hope he doesn't get too pricy.
I won it! In fact, I was the only person who actually bid on it. It was about... 12 pounds? In dollars, it came to $20.83.
Hopefully it won't take too long to ship from the good old UK.
Could have been worse - to get it cheaper I think you would have had to wait for a while; every now and again someone posts a rare mini cheap and if the photo is bad or its smothered in thick paint then you can win it cheaper.
Lat nights progress - confrontation bounty hunter - servant of Brad the Bratt.
Thanks! My advice is to have lots of different coloured washes and experiment with using them in layers over base colours. Layering washes then highlights, then more washes.
I can see him as a very old servitor who's biological parts have gotten a bit dry and crusty over the milleniums
Weety that is a really great paint job so grubby looking the skin tone is spot on , wish i could skin tones love the diorama photography too nice and atmospheric.
@monkey I took not of that triple " D" mini when i first joined dakka , and make a quick sketch of her to add her into the Praxus graphic novel as an Easter egg... if i ever get round to finishing it , i shall have to credit you... and thanks to Monkey fro the three breasted dominatrix.. sounds about right.
Cheers Lindsay, scarper and Neil, I tried hard on that skin to get it looking good - but I think a lot of the credit goes to the sculptor for doing such a characterful face - he looks like hes been in a few fights and lived.
Good luck miss dee. Happy halloween.
More stuff got done. Being ill is good for the creativity - and The Goonies is on! hooray. The brat still need a bit of work on his back and stuff - will do some multi angle shots soon as its a great model.
wouldn´t worry about the hairdo in the hive... the pants... man... look them pants...sissy^^
but that aside the skin and the hair are truly off the scale! or in another way: me likes!
Brad the brat is chuffed to bits that he fought off all comers for the the giant blue ice pop. Now if only he could find that bottle of peroxide so he can do his roots again.
Really like the hair contrasting with the blade, good job weets

dantay_xv - jelly cream: take two packets of flavored gelatin (jelly) and dissolve in a bit less water than instructions say - then whisk in thoroughly a small tin of condensed milk. Pop it in the fridge for a few hours untill set - yummy.
Emptying the studio today - I'm going to get silicosis of the lung and a bad back.
But after that its time to bask in a work free weekend - anyone have a request for what I should paint? I've got eldar, space marines, guard, beastmen, delaques and chaos marines all ready to go.
I vote for Eldar, IG, and Chaos Marines in that order, but given how prolific you've been already it might be Ok for you just to relax for a day and sip wine.
Here is some progress on my nurgle marine - This is my all time favourite chaos marine mini, he is so cool and reminds me of an iridescent weevil. he needs some kind of fungal infection to finish him off.
blimey that is strange , another mini i have never seen before . looking pretty sweet all the same. I often wonder what you could do with the detail of a finecast or resin model after seeing th great stuff you achieve with these original gems.
What would you recommend? I'm out of touch with modern minis and have no idea what to look for. I suppose ideally I would want something inquisitorial.
I like the hats the vostroyans wear. And the princeps is quite cool. Its a month of negative money though so it'll have to wait till xmass probably - plenty of time to do some research and find a mini I really want to paint.
Might do a couple of beastmen 2day vallhalla - I have a day off at last. I shall see if I can struggle out of bed and get the paint and brushes out.
Would anyone else be interested in commissioning me to paint their minis? I'm not doing pottery atm so I have to do something. I would be cheap. I cant promise perfection though; I'm on the quest for perfection but I haven't got there just yet. And maybe your minis can help me get there?
well I've moved out of my studio now and all my equipment is in storage - I will let you know when it looks like somethings happening. It might take a while. Its very sad but I needed to get out of there as it was just too expensive.
I like that commissar he is a pretty fanatical looking comrade
Thanks miss dee. are they the new ones? I will have to look them up and get some ideas.
cheers Neil. Yes I have to carry the brush of power into the caves of paint and defeat the golden demon to complete my quest. It'll probably never happen but its the journey that counts apparently
The Caves of Paint? Oh noes! Those are nasty places miss, they make you do colours and stuff in there. Nowhere near as nice as the Dungeons of Artifice.
Hope you manage to get something sorted for your studio soon.

Really? Rats - I was hoping to commission three Christmas presents. Oh well, maybe next year.

Aye - I don't have him yet myself. He's my second favourite of the new Commissars, after the guy sighting down the bolt pistol (who I have painted). I've got the Commissar Lord too (in Finecast), but haven't painted him yet, as his sword won't straighten fully.
Oh, btw weety, could you trim the number of exclamation marks in your original post title, please? I keep getting an error message every time I try to reply.
I'm doing a different flavour of beastmen this time as I have enough funky looking slaneeshi beasts to be going on with. I hate doing a colour scheme to death.
These Beasties have a khornish look - they are au naturele as far as skin, hair and horns are concerned. I'm very please with my naturalistic varnished pine axe handle(yellow with layers of sepia and umber washes).
oh dear...that poor young man...remember the time i had them...but i was way older... about thirteen...well it is useless to wish him to get better soon... this will have to take it´s turn.... but to keep him from scratching will be quite difficult...i then only wish you that he doesn´t get them zits in his face.... nasty marks it can leave for a lifetime...
Nah, its all on his back so he cant reach them, am seriously beginning to think my wife is a daemonette and between us we have given birth to a nurgling!
omg... you are one bitter man^^ but you have seen in your son before a gift... and father nurgle is pretty generous... by the way... the combination of the letters "gift" is in german the same as in english poison^^ funny ain´t it? but reading that only his back is involved this might not be too rough on him then after all...did you check behind his ears? thats a sure point where zits will apear...
Ah but maybe the transmutation is hidden, so as not to raise the ire of the inquisition and their dreaded fluffy pillows.
Ithink its more grandmas cold hands tickling him lol
Squats are space Dwarves, and Dwarves value quality and engineering over everything. There is no way in hell that Squats would drive around in a Rhino when a Chimera has a higher side armor value. Of course, the Rhino is an Ancient STC design built by the 31st Millenium equivalent to Mercedes Benz too, maybe it is better engineered.

Er...but a Rhino has higher side armor than a Chimera. The latter has the advantage in its front armor.
The painted IG sergeant is excellent! It's a very characterful figure too.
The big lamp's gone down, somebody somewhere is trying to toss a dwarf, and peeps are worried about what smell is going to emanate from that power armour when it's finally cracked open after 20 years of war.
now i have an image of a flying dwarf over the disc of the moon in my head... like E.T...
and to tell you a small story of my time doing service in the army... we were at the decontamination company... wearing full protection garment... one of our mates , who constantly couldn´t be kept from farting pulled his gasmask off his face while still being under full protection... he was literally in his own private sauna...so he breathed his full aroma in...well to cut a long story short... he went grey then green and we thought about cutting him out of his gear...it was just that we all lay on the ground while he choked due to his own odors....lol...imagine that now with that mentioned beaky...ot to put it in another way:
reading all that strange fluff of how they are able to eat sand and other usually unedible stuff and still keep on going i would think they rebreath rather than exhaust any winds...yuk....
well being a german then has it´s advantages afer all as we have no taco bell shops...(i don´t know if restaurant would be the right vocab choice here...)

NOTE: This picture was from back before Chimeras existed, and you could mount meltas on your Rhinos, and EVERYONE rode around in Rhinos.
ya Fluff says the Rhino was maybe originally civilian in origin or something? STC factory you could drop on a settlement planet and dump whatever local material into and out pops a piping hot Rhino when the bell dings?
I like that image - just like a hot pie - and when you cut it open you never know what the filling might be - except by the smell...
Automatically Appended Next Post: On of these days I have to get (or make) an old RT rhino or razorback. And I can paint it whatever colours I choose cos briancj is right - everyone has a rhino in the RT universe (except the eldar, who wouldn't be seen dead in something so boxy).
Reading monkeytrolls blog this morning made m want to bulid a vehicle with the gubinz he sent me. So this is the basic structure of my idea. It will have a lot more armour plating, probably some searchlights and some mesh over the front windscreen. Were can you get very fine mesh cheap?
I use Aluminum (or Aluminium if you like extra vowels) Wire mesh sold as screen for paper mache building. Brand name here is Activia, it also comes in brass or steel I believe.
Oh and I have one of those old Rhinos in pieces that I don't want. It came with some old SM bikes in a lot (which I do want for tough hiver biker rough riders)
I spent a good half hour roaming the hardware store and all their mesh was too big - but then looked in my kitchen and found a cheap mini-sieve! I will look out for the paper mache stuff though, for next time.
I told you it was rough. Exhausts, top hatch, and one headlight are missing. Looks like it would require some serious plastic surgery to serve the Emperor again.

Wow, that's actually in much better shape than mine! Although, I sawed mine in half...
Oh, and Weety, truck is looking good! I'd definately go with the twin auto cannons!
RSJake - everything gets cut in half eventually - monkeytroll is currently on the case and will have cut everything in half by 2025 - and stuck it back together in a different way!
Unfortunatly miss dee I'm hampered by a basic lack of funds -
I was hoping to pay off my overdraft before civilization collapses just in case the banks mutate into fascist totalitarian overlords and introduce debt slavery.
Dstienglass - I'm afraid it might not be serving the Emperor... depends how I'm feeling at the time.
I think it is fixable with some plasticard and some putty. I will go at it from the stand point that it is a damaged rhino thats been co-opted by the cult or whatever, rather than try and make it look new.
Here is what I have going spare in the necromunda box - I have an arm for the goliath ganger and you get a choice between autogun or grenade launcher. Trade?
Cheers monkey - your truck bitz are getting some good use at last. I took my time - multiple projects keep popping up so I never know what I will finish next.
Here is the last update before I get comfy. Its too cold in here to model into the night. I need duvet.
The front could do with a spiked bumper maybs, and I have no suitable gun for the roof yet. - maybe a little more armour plate on the doors. a ladder on the rear would look good as its very high and they would need one to get in. Lots and lots of rivets are also needed. Then a rusty paintjob
Hey, I'm never going to be one to rush anyone else And I understand completely about new projects.
Also understand duvet need, I can barely feel my fingers as I type. Luckily the workroom is the room that has the heater in, so that's generally the warmest place to be Other than under the duvet.
Like the progress so far, looks very suitable for your gangers. Nice railings.
How spiky a bumper are you looking at?
Like the idea of a rusty old ladder hanging off the back.
wow this is quite cool looking.... the sieve is an excelent choice! also i love thr broken window...any chance you will keep it in the painted version?
the fender looks awsome and i love the bullet holes done by GS^^
the spikes are my only nitpick here as i think they are a tad oot...^^
