Sometimeswhen I get a 25 year old mini with flash still on it I think: "some guy somewhere is pumping out pirated copies and making a mint" but then I look at the mini and think that either they were a bloody good forger and I dont care, or its just never been owned by someone who gave a damn about flash and mould lines!
Actually a good forger would have removed the flash probably.
He is well cool and I want one even more now I see a good photo.
Monkey - rivets will probably be GS - its the simplest way.
The bumper will probably be as spiky as looks good - von dom might have a point about the spikes being OTT, but I need to stare at it for a long amount of time pretending to think before I decide.
Von dom - the broken window will defo stay (must remeber to mask it before priming). That was a nifty bit of work with a scalpel. - the bullet holes arn't GS - its just that the plastic under the dodgy silver paint job is exactly the same colour as the GS I'm using.

and to tell you a small story of my time doing service in the army... we were at the decontamination company... wearing full protection garment... one of our mates , who constantly couldn´t be kept from farting pulled his gasmask off his face while still being under full protection... he was literally in his own private sauna...so he breathed his full aroma in...well to cut a long story short... he went grey then green and we thought about cutting him out of his gear...it was just that we all lay on the ground while he choked due to his own odors....lol...imagine that now with that mentioned beaky...ot to put it in another way:
Where he is sat down. That is where my surf shop is!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Weety. You are on page 81!
Christ on a stick! you are right... 81. An epic tome of random puns, comic asides and digression, smattered with occasional finished works. Not as vast as gitsplittas 300 page sea of commentary, banter and humorous side-arguments, liberally sprinkled with mantis warriors. Lol. I love blogging.
I think that is pretty cool to have waay OOP minis with the flash still on them! Much easier (but not as fun) as removing some 8 year old's attempted paint job with a wire wheel and the Dremel.
Well this is a proud moment for me - I've been in full creative flow since I got back from work and I'm exceedingly smug about the results - I want to make more!! cant wait for my rhino... decisions to make - will it be guard, marine, chaos or cult? should it have epic scale deathstrike missiles strapped to the top? should it have a multi melta? should I make a razorback etc....
Any ways here are the pics - just needs a lick of rust and some graffiti
Looks great! Bumper stickers on the back would look cool to go along with the graffiti. Something like "how's my my driving.." or "I wish my girlfriend was this dirty" or something similar.
Of course, to-scale stickers couldn't be read, so maybe that is a bit far...
Dodgy silver paintjob? I don't know what you're talking about That was going to get red, gold and green inks over it, but the scalextric got shoved into storage before I got round to it.
Anyway, new version looks good girl Glad to hear you got the V-hickle bug now, I want to see you converting more stuff
Of course it does mean I need to get rid of some paperbacks to make room, I desperately need another shelf for warhammer figures as they are getting cramped.- I might do a grand ebay sci-fi paperback sale soon.
Thanks all for comments and thankyou dsteinglass for digging out those top hatches!
I'm afraid I may have to, I've read them all anyway - I've got E.E. doc Smith, douglas adams, terry pratchett, Ian banks, arthur c clarke, ursula le guin, julian may, alan dean foster, issac asimov, ben bova, ray bradbury plus many more obscure authors - I will link to the auctions in case any take your fancy. But then again I might keep the sci-fi and scrap the classics instead - victorian writers can be fairly boring but they sell well because they are "classic"
Thanks gitsplitta - I wasn't sure if it would look good myself - and I still wasn't sure till I undercoated it
did someone talk about....nuts...nails... screw...bolts...dowels...or something like that.... i think i heard something through the void....hmmm... must be misstaken about that....*trods off*
er... about that truck! splendid! i think this will be truly grnad and the best part will be it will be a great inspiration for lots of peeps to to likewise! i scoured the fleamarkets for quite some time now and never found a good matching scale for some old toy to be hacked apart to be later reborn as a nice gaming model....
Technically speaking it was monkeytroll's choice of vehicle - I have looked at old carboot/fleamarket toys myself and it is very hard to find them at the right scale.
Chainmail, random splodges of dark flesh, orange, and a mix of the two. Badab black and devlan wash, heavy drybrushing/stippling/sponging of chainmail and silver, more washes to suit.
Chainmail, dark flesh patches. Chainmail overbrush, couple of brown ink washes, very light silver drybrush:
Silver with red and brown ink splodges:
Very heavy chainmail drybrush over a black washed dark green. Heavy stippling with orange, dark flesh, and random splodges of yellow, orange and brown inks. Light drybrush of chainmail. Powders to finish. Ground up pastels make great powder substitutes to add some texture on top :
Tinbitz then chainmail drybrushes over black with brown patches: (in RL you can see the mettalic sheen)
Tinbitz, very light drybrush with catachan green then very thin wash of some green that I've forgotten:
Light overspray of olive over black and red spray base. Random large splodges of macharius orange, mechrite red and dark flesh. Badab blsck and devln washes. Chainmail drybrush, dark flesh stippling and selected variety of washes:
I'd say just mess around with various browns, oranges and reds. Messing around with drybrushing, stippling and washes is fun as if you don't like the result, further messing around will change it but ad some extra texture to the finish.
If you're doing a large area do some heavy sponging of a colour near the centre of the area and a light sponge in some other places to simulate patches of the original paint.
Although, as you posted your query in the morning, you've probably finished the truck by now and have started a couple more minis
Wow thanks monkey! Actually I had done a wash of black and umber over "pig iron" (privateer press) and then didn't like it much and couldn't dicide how to proceed so your "Essay on Rust" is helping - time to cut up some sponge and get stippling.
I cant say I've ever read the lensman series. The ones I've got are from the "family D'alembert" series and is about a family of circus performers from a hi-gravity planet who are all super strong and live in an aristocratically led space empire
read the lensman series quite a long time agi and from that point of view i liked it... when i think about the books i think it was a bit like a continuing of ever more powerful enemies and the striving of a more technological solution to their problems...too bad the books are away^^ and i can´t figure out where to get them anymore... of course now i would read them only in english...
Yeah, many, many moons since I read any of the Lensman series, think I have a couple squirrelled away somewhere. Recognise the Family D'alembert, but that's about it, not sure if I've read those or not.
You may be on to something there Brian, as I recall the Red Lensman was the only female to be able to use a Lens, she was a curvy redhead with awesome mental powers, can't remember if they included the ability to slow down time in order to paint up some minis before the Galactic Patrol needed her help again
Well I will look out for some lensman for you Vic. I'm always going around car boots and stuff.
Monkeytroll - blimey! Sounds just like me...
Stringbassknight - the first page seems like a lifetime ago - are you talking about my white and green beaky marines! Yes I suppose they do have that look if you screw you eyes up a bit and look at them sideways.
Did some paint work on the truck - I'm not happy yet - more work needed.
Great start to the trukk, err truck The front around the wheel arch looks very nice, as does the scraped patches on the back. I'd suggest trying some varied techniques on different areas - as it's a customised vehicle not all the bodywork is going to be the same material, and so will weather differently. Also breaks up the colours nicely.
Yeah, I thought so too, and obviously so did Brian
I think Stringbassknight was refering to the MS Paint colour test for the marines
edited as I've forgotten how to spell basic words.
also i see why you deem it not done yet... there is something not right to the bigger surfaces of the truck in my opinion...mostyl from what i see is that there are brushstrokes to be seen??? or am i imagine things here? the overall scheme looks very good...somehow but i had imagined a red paintjob... the thing suggest some mexican day.laboror feel about it...the two minis of you definatly strenghten my idea here^^ do you know what i mean?
i want a t-shirt with that slogan....and a truck of yours sporting that legend too!!!
me wants the revolution!
vik
(because lets face it... would a true loyalist to opressive forces make an army about queeny victoria and their steamforces? i bet no one would^^ so i am a red sock all over^^, always was and always will)
I really must keep up with the blog more regularly, seems I've missed loads since I was last here. Have been well busy, what with a change of role at work... I used to do most of my Weety's-blog-reading in the office, but now they're making me actually do stuff I can't! Been busy painting my Orks too (some of which in my gallery) and have been commissioned (my 1st, yay!) to paint a Thundertusk for a friend...
Loads of fab minis, getting better and better... The Harlequins are especially nice...
Good to read the Revolver tangent too - it was a sadly short lived comic, around 10 issues and a couple of specials, and I had them all... Anyone remember Pinhead Nation?
I absolutely love the truck too; it looks great! If I could humbly suggest a yellow paint scheme, with Trotter's Independent Rogue Traders on the side
PInhead nation sounds interesting - what was that aboot? For a change google s not being very helpful on it.
Lol to the trotter mobile - it ought to have three wheels. Funny story - there was a TV competition to win rodney trotters robin reliant way back and some bugger who lives in the flats up the road from me won (thats wot I heard) - I kept seeing it and thinking what the bent is that aboot? then saw an episode of the fools n horses and twigged.
No painting - I have to stand up for all day serving the pubic at the mo cos two of my till colleagues are on holiday. So when 'm not at work I tend to eat and sleep in that order - got the weekend off, painting then hopefully.
Hmm, the name Pinhead Nation rings a bell, but all I really remember from Revolver was Dare and Rogan. I have a vague image in my head of something with a similar look to Bad Company, but I'm sure that's wrong
Pinhead Nation was a wired strip about a guy (blue if I recall) with a very small head... There was also one called Happenstance & Kismet but all I remember is the name...
weetyskemian44 wrote:Thought of a great slogan for occupy wall street today "The show's not over till the fat banker swings" (hope none of you are bankers.... um).
As someone who works for a notable financial institution, and has weight issues, I would like to take umbrage with your slogan, weety...
The truck looks like its pulled into a post apoc 50s drive in the move theater, with that lovely backdrop, although i doubt those heavies are there for the popcorn....
dont remember pinhead nation .. sorry seems like it was penned by the worryingly titled shaky kane though
No sign of the rhino yet dstiengass, but I'm glad the gangers came through fast - my rhino is probably being probed by customs officials for explosives and contraband...
Dsyartes - lol!
Cheers neil - I've been playing way too much fallout. So I know exactly what you mean.
I've done a bit more work on the rust today - I'm a lot happier with it and there is only the question of weather I should make the head lamps on or off. Also some kind of scary gang ta to go on the doors and the roof
cool development there on the truck weety...as for the headlights question on or off...both... i would do one cracked up and out and the other on...would suit ther overall appearance in my view!
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm considering making some more post apocalyptic road transport soon! I still have enough plasticard left to armour plate something. Maybe I should paint a bike - I have a few now. Or maybe I will just lie around.
Its seaweed season in Cornwall - storms wash it onto the beach. so we've been humping great sacks of the stuf onto the allotment and my fingers might just be too tired to paint
i can´t understand why you brits always complain about your weather...i think you should have acustomed to it since birth...so no point in groaning over it...
It's a circular thing - we like to moan, and the weather gives us something to moan about. In addition to that, if we didn't moan about the weather, we'd have to talk about important stuff, and that would never do...
Well summed up there archroy. When I am in work on the tills the old customers love to moan about the weather - I used to say things like "It could be worse, at least we don't live in Afghanistan" but that never went down well so these days I just say "ooh yeas isn't it terrible - should be nicer tommorow"
I'm painting delaques as genestealer cultists today - Getting on quite well - there may be pics soon - but only if the thick black cloud sitting over my flats will bugger off cos I don't have enough light - If only I lived in Afghanistan then I would have all the sunshine I need...
Certain portions of this blog prove that we need a recognized internet sarcasm font
I'm waiting on some Delaque gangers to arrive from merry old England so I can convert them into Valhallan penal squaddies. I imagine a nice barcode on their forehead should do. Plus some autoguns to represent them getting the crappy munitions left lying around from the last batch. Waiting on mail from the UK to arrive is agonizingly slow though.
On the plus side, I finally can't stand it anymore. I've sprayed the space skeleton matte black and printed some reference pics from the internet and am going to start in on him as soon as he gets dry.
Do it and post it please! I like the idea of your vahallan penals - will they have hats to keep their heads warm or are they deprived of head wear as part of their punishment?
Here are some glory shots of the assembled rhino - thankyou dsteingass! I haven't put the back boxes on and I dropped and lost the only headlight - but this is good as I'm going for a slightly non-standard looking rhino - Its probably going to be genestealer cult.
It does look a bit rough but this is perfect for a cult vehicle or just some kind of ex-military vehicle. It'll look better when I fill in the holes and spray it.
The missing exhausts may stay missing - Depending how it looks.
Nothing immediately obvious comes to mind for the extras. Eventually they will find a place
weetyskemian44 wrote:Do it and post it please! I like the idea of your vahallan penals - will they have hats to keep their heads warm or are they deprived of head wear as part of their punishment?

I will post it. I figure the Delaques fit perfectly. Not only are they deprived of headgear, but they're shaved bald to serve their penance in the biting cold. The only relief they have is their great coat, and the goggles they have. But they only have goggles to preserve their eyes and their aim. If they survive the loss of heat thru their uncovered heads, they can serve the Emperor by killing his enemies and dying in his cause.
Plus I love the idea of bald guys with bar codes on their foreheads. I'll post one of them also when I'm done. I finally got the first three in the mail today. That brings me to three delaques, a space pirate and a space thug. Now I need to find an adeptus arbites figure to serve as their taskmaster, and find four more. I should have two or three more delaques on the way. OH, and I have a Van Saar with autogun already and one with a heavy stubber on the way. That takes care of my heavy weapon (counts as heavy bolter) and the assault weapon (multimelta on the space pirate counts as meltagun.) All I'm really lacking is the one arbite. Every ebay listing has been for a whole bunch of them, and I'm not sure I can order just one from GW any more.
And I can't wait to see the rhino when you're done with it.
I have been working on these guys for a while - the two older gangers I had already painted but I am in the process of making them pale skinned vault (sorry I mean hive) dwellers with sensitive eyes and just a hint of alien genetics. They are to be dirtied slightly too. Genestealer cultists always strive to fit in and hide their true identities until the time is ripe so not too bright. But a hint of the alien and lots of purple is mandatory.
I spray painted my rhino only to discover that it was full of mould lines and visable joins (more like crevasses - the rhino kit never went together quite right). so after a sunday morning of filling, scrapping and milliputing I resprayed and I'm very pleased with the finished job - standard arnament I'm afraid. It felt right to leave this one fairly unconverted as my first rhino - I will have to find more vehicles to put big guns on
FOR THE RECORD: I did NOT paint that rhino, ever It was like that when I got it, along with the SM Bikes. Makes you wonder what kind of cheap-ass clay-based paint they used on it doesn't it?
That is absolutely amazing Weety! I cannot believe that is the same pile of scrap I sent you! +50 cool points to you for drilling the bolter barrels and smoke launchers, and another +50 cool points for the hatch handles. Btw, I get them bent like that too, This type of flat pliers straightenes them out nicely for me, makes a nice 90 degree corner on the wire., even after glued.
Handy tip there steingass - I think I will find one of those flat pliers - I was using a pair of tweezers but they don't really have the power.
And thanks for the comment! - I really wanted to improve upon the slightly cack-handed design of the rhino - Without all the whittling and infilling the bits never stick together tightly and it ends up looking like you could wedge a grenade in the cracks...
I have given my rhino 7 layers of different paint and wash - and only just decided who is getting it - it will be a tech-guard vehicle (my imperial guard are meant to be a mars legion) with cog symbols. I will get the delaques something a bit more civillian.
But this is a pictureless update, as the light is no good for photos. I'm very slowly building it up to a nice rusty finish and there mght be photos tommorow
Continuing experiments in rustyness on my rhino (10 layers of paint so far), and a libyan style, looted imperial heavy weapon mounted on a pickup truck!
btw, if anyone is interested, my FLGS has one of these old-school Rhino's in the display case being sold, and it is in a LOT better shape than the one I sent Weety, although she has made it beautiful. If anyone wants me to ask about it, drop me a pm.
I'm afraid that ceramics is right out till next year when I have my finances in order graven. So sorry as I would have loved to keep making things for people.
I'm interested in that rhino steingass, but only if its going cheap. I think its a bit far to post unless its a bargain.
Yet another distraction from painting has entered my life I'm afraid - Oblivion - the Elder Scrolls IV. Seems fairly massive on first inspection. Plus I have a feeling I'm getting fallout new vegas for Crimbo; so you can expect new painting updates in a year or two...
very lame of me - maybe I will paint while my other half plays on the x-box (he did buy it after all)
No worries dude! Its a fine looking specimen - to be honest I would rather get a mangled piece of (s)crap and do it up nice like as I will probably get a better deal and I enjoy the challenge of putting them back together.
While sourcing the autocannon for the truck I ended up with a pile of spare parts - these modern multi-part kits are a bit new to me - I keep dropping bits and they roll under the bed - but I have got some assembled anyway. Here they are, my first "new school" figures.
weetyskemian44 wrote:While sourcing the autocannon for the truck I ended up with a pile of spare parts - these modern multi-part kits are a bit new to me - I keep dropping bits and they roll under the bed - but I have got some assembled anyway. Here they are, my first "new school" figures.
They look too squeaky clean and respectable for this thread. Perhaps if they were dirtier, unshaven, and had rips and patches on their uniforms??
I'm really diggin' the vehicles you are producing. They add a bit more character to your already "characterful" collection, which has got to be growing to shelf busting proportions.
Yes - hopefully given a lick of paint they will fit in better. Might take me a while I have to admit.
More like double shelf busting!
I have two shelves full of minis now and I need to do some good army shots, but its a whole new approach to photography for me. A wide shot that still gives a good level of focus, so I need a tripod and I need a much bigger backdrop as well.
Good to see the banner bearer again , and the sentinel is looking suitably boxy for 40k, does it remind anyone else of the At Te from star wars ? it just needs chewy popping out of the top.
Any resemblance to the star wars walker is intentional...
No actually it just came together that way - originally it was going to have an open cockpit but it just wasn't working out so I started building a little box - and it looked pretty well star wars so I ran with it
Lumberjacks everywhere! Hells bells, all we need now is a chorus line of mounties...
Well I gave up on painting for a while there but I'm doing a little painting 2day and might get finished soonish. Thanks for looking and will get some pics up
My progress is slow, very very slow. We are busy with extra xmass work shifts and making puddins. But this model should be interesting as it will show my progress - its a mini I have painted B4 - the rogue trader servitor, and it is already looking ten times better than the last time I painted it.
Monty python song plus the hilarious sweeny todd intro
I finally finished all the fantasy figures I had been "contracted" to paint, and although I'm no 'eavy Metal Painter, She loved them. So what's the first thing of my own I finish afterwards? Well, a Space Marine sgt and a shoulder pad to finish repairing my land raider, but after that?
Well, I took this guy:
Who had already been cleaned up and primed black, and brought him to this:
I'm happy with him. He will become a servitor in my Valhallan Imperial Guard army.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry for the huge pictures.
This was my first try at this mini, painted about 8 months ago. I was disapointed with it at the time as it was just a bit dull and the skin a bit too healthy looking;
So this is my second atempt, as I had two of this model. I went for a more grimy and corpse like skin tone and a colour scheme in keeping with his tech priest masters
Looks like two of us are painting old minis. I'm going to paint my Space Pirate and Space Thug next. I'll post those too, but I don't want to take over your blog.
And you're right, the second one looks much more servitor-like.
Neither photo is really in focus though! Must take better photos.
Thanks for posting the space skeleton - I like to see it close up and painted. Please do post a pic of the others if you want to! I may not have any new photos for a while
The skeleton looks a tad unfinished , maybe its the black showing through under the white. or because you give us such up close macro shots ;-) cool model though , I first saw this model in monkeys gallery. and thought OMG its awesome, and is that basing we see , :-0 , i love the bob olly sculpts , they are pure old-school and this servitor is more detailed than the last , although i did like the skin colour on the first one , but as you say , it looks a bit healthy ;-)
I was expecting to find several squads of completed minis on this thread when I caught up
Oblivion is going to suck your life away
Last time I checked I think I was at about 150 hours.
Anyway, liking the rhino and the technical, and the Mk II servie looks suitably gritty and grungy. I still like the first one, but he's a cheerful clean servitor type.
It was a great game, and I will be replaying it slightly differently, but I was a bit disappointed in the ending mechanics. Like the first one the only decisions that seem to alter the ending are the ones right at the end (bar one possibly - I'll try that on another run). I won't know that for sure till I have replayed obviously, but the choices were laid out and the ending voiceover didn't really gel with some of the choices I'd made.
Was still quality though
Thanks for your feedback monkey, I think its worth having my life ever so slightly wasted for such an epic game! Busy being a cat burglar and general cut-throat at the mo.
I might have a new studio soon - might be able to wrangle it rent free too.
Good luck with the studio weets .
@ monky , yep it had its flaws like you say , but the feeling of depth and the amazing environment work kept me glued to the screen for a solid week, loved the combination of deus mgs syndicate and blade runner. better then the original i thought.
now can both of you stop tempting me with oblivion, i just lost a week and would rather not loose another 3 months !
Oblivion or Skyrim? I've been playing a lot of Skyrim as a dual axe-wielding Viking. Love it. I wanted to post this here because I'm darn proud of it. Sorry to hijack the thread again..
I had a pretty productived weekend. I finally finished restoring my demolisher to it's pre-theft glory. Heck, some of it's better than it was. It is the centerpiece of my Valhallan army.
Spoiler:
Then another Space Marine Iron Fist (my own pre-learning GW had one, scheme) actually painted last week.
Spoiler:
And then, after reading some threads on the subject, and attempting some washes on some fantasy figures, and seeing just how good Asurmen Blue looks when using it as a wash for white Valhallans, I've decided to wash all my IG forces going forward.
Spoiler:
Edit: And just to make sure I don't continue to hijack Weety's thread, I made my own here:
Very neat painting vallhalla, but I'm glad to hear you are getting into washing as it adds so much depth to a model (you probably should water the blue down for the vehicles).
The white looks great against the 'snow' background in your blog, very camo!
Go on Neil you know you want to... it will make you 'oblivious' to everything else...
I have a finished 80x60' garage, insulated, heated, and air-conditioned for my studio that I rent. Oh yeah, I guess the house I live in is attached too
How did you guess? It is just to the right of my hobby bench, and my painting bench is just to the left. I have a U-Shaped command center really. Tv and easy chair are behind me.
and a bunk too? also...where the heck did you store your GF for emergency needs? those moments sure are not too seldom in a modlers life? i sincerely hope so^^
no, silly, the bedroom is in the house part lol She sits in the easy chair most of the time. The garage is used more as a living room than our living room does
Believe it or not, in the US we produce millions of tons of corn, which gets sold to Venezuela at market price, We then import foreign corn at 20% over market price for domestic use. In this fashion, pallets we get are almost ONLY made of some evil, rock-hard, sappy Chinese wood, which is damn near impossible to cut or work with.
I have no idea, we have apparently turned from a manufacturing nation to a finance nation. I guess that means that we just gave up and started using monopoly money, I dunno.
if it wasn´t so sad it would be funny with that monopoly money... also you do realize that many politicians or would be politicians would like to see an american monopol in the world...quite the nice play on words here...
Chinese wood not as hard as other wood? Oh dear the chinese will be pissed at you...
My avatar is in fact a chav of the female variety. A frequently unsightly group who like to drag their hair back into a tight ponytail know as a "Croydon facelift" which acounts for the slightly bald look. Also known for wearing tracksuits and gold hoop earings in combination. Maybe I should get a more sympathetic avatar hmmm?
er.... weety... never really did think about your avatar in that way... but now after your description...er...omg...^^
at git... just stumbled upon that version ... it was originally sung by the lot also... and it made me laugh quite loud too...if you are a bit into german you should look into the deadliest joke sketch of theirs... the german lines are hilarious to say the least...
I think you should use one of your fantastic RT era minis as your avatar... you've pretty much defined the beauty of these old figs on dakka... that or one of your mugs.
Yes - its time for an avatar change probably. I will have a scan through my pics for a goodun. Also as its a weekend I might bless a mini with a visit from my paintbrush, who knows...
Anyone got any good presents lined up for crimbo? I have a sneaking suspicion that I might have a warhammer based pressie under my imaginary tree. I've been told that I will never guess and that I didn't even know it existed but the box rattles like warhammer should.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well I uploaded a picture of my hair, to fill in while I go through my pics of minis, and I cant see it. In fact I cant see anyones avatar? is there a reason? technical help would be great
Automatically Appended Next Post: scratch that - I was in a mobile friendly theme(no idea why) and I now have avatars back!
Automatically Appended Next Post: everyones avatars are looking very Xmassy! Good show
Aye ! yours is pretty Christmasy too new year new plans and all that jazz, change is as good as a rest , so they say. And no worries mate i dont plan on abandoning my spiritual home anytime soon. 40k just couldn't contain all my creativity anymore M..u..st...expa..an..d my...mi...n..d .. an..d ex..per..ien..ce new ..gak
well mate i am all for widening ones horizons...but think you are in danger to see your own back of yer head^^ which is quite cool for us chaps that develop the bald spot every now and then^^
I don't know too many guys who don't appreciate redheads. Myself included. And I must say, I really dislike drilling the barrels of lasrifles with a pin vise. I'm getting hand-cramps!
Thanks for the compliments guys, I am blushing a little. Concentrate on the painting!
I'm doing the scrunt walker this weekend, for those who don't remember it is a recent sculpt by Bob Ollie, who is a veteran sculptor responsible for a good portion of rogue trader minis. He isn't employed by GW anymore and he makes these Scrunts (squats without copyright issues) in his shed. You can buy them at www.olleysarmies.co.uk
These are the progress pics, I'm adding glowing blue engine parts and painting the guns red, headlights yellow
Damned mould lines!!! They are all over this one, and I was sure I saw to them already. Oh well. At least I dont have an entire armies worth of lasguns to drill out with a pin vice like Vahalla... The things we do for art.
Gitsplita - love the expression "total duck". I'm imagining Quacking, brightly coloured feathers and possibly fights for dominance and complicated mating rituals.
The Xmass Avatars are all looking fabtastic and funky
Glad you like my pic neil - I enjoyed the one of you in a darth vader costume
I better get down to some painting before I get too drunk to hold the brush
if i recall correctly sloe is awfully sweet and a bit bitter in taste? might be wrong tho^^
and nice to finally put a face to a name miss dee! is it the time of the year to reveal my own mug on the inerwebs too? i guess such revelations could very well endanger dakka^^ i think i stay a bit longer the mister clean of the grim dark^^
A lora-lora lasrifles! A pale tide of death even! And I can perfectly understand your annoyance with the drilling now...
Sloes are extreemly sour and bitter Mr von dom. Any sweetness they might have in drinks is added sugar. If you try eating one raw then your mouth implodes into a sort of screwed up dry pocket (a sloe eating contest is fun to watch). But when combined with sugar and gin or some other appropriate ingredients then their flavour is transformed into deliciousness.
Lots of progress was made on the walker last night - but as yet no daylight bulb to take a photo in the dark. The mold lines keep giving me hell - I shave them off and paint over them and lo and behold they reappear and I gotta do it again. Then 'The Burbs" started so I had to stop.
Lol you guys have cheered me up - there is nothing worse than working retail at Christmas to make me grumpy. Bloody busy cos I work in a discount store and everyone is too poor to shop elsewhere. I almost wish I was working for a failing business, it'd be quieter...
But anyway less bah humbug and more progress reports! Here is what I did last night - looks a bit messy now I look at it in daylight.
the dwarf sets you again on the path of oldschool for definte... very cool looks! and i like the clean colors on that walker... the teeth specially!
and mind you i am a redhead kid a guy... all major loves wore at least in the beginning a sort of red shine... my wife has lost the redness sadly^^ but natural chestnut that shimmers in the autum sun with a hint of red is just fine^^
and tho i do savor a glass of wine from time to time i too think it can´t be as influencing as a woman´s touch^^
OO you have the original arms rsjake! I could only get the standard chaos termi arms at the time so I ran with it. I see you also bulked out the shoulders - but you should get that drill out!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Dstiengass - can you send pints via the internet? Keep on drilling.
Thanks tortured robot it is always good to paint squats.
Anyone in the UK just catch 'Laputa the Flying Island' on film4? Such an inspirational manga - Childhood favorite, for some reason they showed it to us in primary school at christmass

Hehe - yea I watched that, I'd never seen it before. Thought it was great.
Starblazers and Robotech!!! Yes, I know they were butchered American versions of the "original classics." I don't care.
Harrumph.
And I found more Valhallans that had been hiding out in a case! Right now I'm looking about 85 blue Valhallans waiting to be painted.I still have to apply more wash to some others. About 20 more.
Then I have roughly 40 old beret stormtroopers to do the same way.
Every time I come into this thread your use of colour astounds me, freaking loving the work on him. A weaponised space dwarf in a robot is a pretty terrifying concept to say the least. The sculpt is really cool, haha.
I've never heard of Sloe before, so I learned something today. We had a Damson tree in our backyard that had fruit you could make pretty much anything out of, but it was a bit of an acquired taste. Can you make jam out of those berries? Imo anything you can make nice wine out of generally makes tasty jam too. mmmm jam.

I did not know they did a "Sequel" ......
The sequel was the one I saw first, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. Extremely artsy affair from one of the same animation studios that worked on the AniMatrix iirc, gorgeous eye candy, but not a substantial plot I watched the original afterwards, they did a pretty good job keeping D in his original character in the second one, so its deffo worth a watch if you are a fan.
Hey thanks for the compliment ifalna - If only I had your patience and eye for detail! Well I have some patience or I wouldn't paint at all, but more would be good.
Saw that vampire hunter sequel - Amazing animation, great gore but too short and insubstantial. Personally I will watch anything. I have a friend who swears by fist of the north star.
Mr terminator is coming along well - but not so far as I can be bothered to take a progress pic - I need a new standard lamp to illuminate my minis - very hard to paint in the dark.
Right so, time to go get some Xmass meat and veg. Chow for now
Ohh dear, oh dear - no I was just going down shops for some Xmas ingredients. Sorry to disappoint!
I'm considering spreading out onto warseer.com - I've had an account with them for donkeys years but never posted anything so I was thinking of creating a thread called "The Museum of Rogue Trader" and just posting swathes of pics of whats already painted, with the stated aim (long-term) of gathering together and painting every rogue trader mini. I'm sure people would love to see them all together again.

Tsk, you fail us once again.
I think your work would be really well received on Warseer, in fairness I think your work would be really well received on any wargaming site. There is such a charm to these vintage models, and your paint jobs just do such a perfect job bringing them to life. If you made a giant thread and just bombarded it with everything you have painted so far, I am pretty sure you would blow a lot of peoples minds

The irony is that I came here from Warseer. Dakka simply has a much more lively and active community whereas Warseer tends to form into cliques.
And you disappointed me.
Once again, a redhead has disappointed me and made life not worth living.
We know some stuff!
Weety, why not just start a new thread like that here? You can keep this as your WIP thread, then post the finished pics in the new thread?

I have a couple of simple finished figure show-off threads on Bolter and Chainsword and BoLS for my Mantis Warriors. I'm not really part of those communities, but I thought people who frequent other forums might like to see what I've been up to, not because it's me... just because it's an old chapter that's rarely done. The interest in the B&C thread has been decent, BoLS not so much. People on both forums have been very nice however. I don't know anything about Warseer, but I'm sure your fine, unique work will be welcomed there.
Yeah, I thought you referring to something like that would be too good to be true, that's why I didn't get too worked about it.
As for an "overall collection" thread, I too think it would be very well recieved. And I too think that you should also do something like that here on Dakka in the Painting & Modeling Showcase forum!
I know how to fire an AT-4 anti-tank rocket, clear a jammed 240C machine gun, and make a tent out of 550 cord and a poncho. What else do I need to know? lol
EDIT: Oh, and once I made a giant Valentine's Day card for my wife out of posterboard, paper-mache hearts and glitter. What?
Great painting weets, and a warseer blog would be excellent , always good to spread your wings once in a while, i recently joined so i could comment on a admech blog Baiyuan made me aware of.
Again great mini's, Not to sound a bit special but how do you subscribe to blogs on Dakka?
I'd love to keep an eye on the old school things you're painting but can't seem to work out how to subscribe?
:Edit: I'm being totally double special I understand the subscription process now, carry on
Headnhalf thanks for subscribing! It was all a bit new to me a year ago. Love your avatar and thanks for posting. Going to look at your other pics now.
If I don't get any painting done over the next week feel free to berate me - I have an unasked for week off work. Now the important task of selling mountains of glittery junk to suckers is over for a year the company has decided to save some money and not employ anyone till january... If only we sold booze we wouldn't have this problem.
Interesting skills vahalla. Constructing valentines cards saves money and is better than some mass produced overpriced piece of mass market manipulation. Shooting anti-tank rockets could be important should you be threatened by a tank. I can see why the imperial guard appeals to you now.
I have the second one kicking around somewhere - the other two are new to me! fairly rare.
Base coat is done - ready for washing! I'm painting whilst watching muppet christmass carol and sipping cognac. Damn that word looks odd written down: cognac. Should be con-yack really.

there are two ways to subscribe to a thread here... either you post and by default choice of your profil here you instantly sub to this thread... or you use the subscribe button on the total lower left corner ... the one next to that lil globe looking thingy...
Cheers everyone for the low-down on subscribing.
I took a ton of photos of the weird rogue trader stuff I found so if you don't mind when I can I'll fire up a couple of pictures?
Also I've dug out an Ambul and a Harlequin jetbike (the one with the face).
OOOh the one with the face! I really want that one. Its it complete and undamaged? Nearly got one once but was pipped at the post by a higher bidder. Please go ahead and post them so we can all see
Automatically Appended Next Post: Merry midwinter bank holiday everyone. I have a cake, pudding, roasting chicken, taters, sprouts, parsnips and carrots, oh and trifle. All homemade. It great having a man-slave who likes cooking (I will be washing up I think)
Trifles vary wildly but are all amazing. I like them with fingers of sponge soaked in sherry, then covered in strawberry jello, with a layer of custard and then topped off with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles.
Weety please send me some yeah? I gots no trifle this year. I feel such a failure.
Happy Holidays Weety, enjoy your dinner which does indeed sound amazing!
lovely work weets, the red and purple are great , you have captured the spirit of the painting very well.
Ahh.. the life i of a man slave .. I know it well , send my condolences to the poor fellow, I hope your doing the washing up ;-)
Metro 2033 is a great little game , not in the same league as NV but still impressive.its actually by the original developers of stalker , both games rely heavily on the novel
A roadside Picnic , but metro is based on a recent novel of the same name . Andrei tarvkosky's stalker 1979 is one of my fave movies . looking forward to the new metro actually.

Trust me when I say I didn't exactly go looking for theose skills. I'ts strange the things the Army thinks you might need to know.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and Merry Christmas, or Yuletide, or Channukah.
How odd briancj - I've looked through my whole facebook profile and cant see where I've gone wrong there - just so long as it doesn't list my street, flat number and mobile! Bloody facebook - its evil. I swear I listed my address as No. 69 None-of-your-beeswax street, nowhere town.
But yes I suppose there is no harm in admitting I live in a beautiful holiday destination full of (slightly battered)palm trees, clean beaches and ancient industrial ruins.
Neil - I will definitely need to do the washing up its only fair. Glad you like my trifle and terminator combo.
Vallhalla - just so long as the army don't decide you need to know how to herd civilians into cattle trucks. Sorry, went a bit dark and sinister there. Personally I would love to learn how to shoot a rifle - for when civillization collapses; not long now I'm sure.
We only had one kind of trifle. But we did have dark chocolate+ stem gonger fudge, mince danish, chocolate roulade and ginger+pineapple crumble as well.
Weety, was wondering, you got a fave csm chapter, or at least god?

Yep all complete and undamaged, it was painted maroon for some reason but I've stripped the paint off, the only bit I don't have is a flying base.
I'm going to try and get a card reader at some point so I can post up pictures
I'm thinking I might keep the Ambul (sorry) as it's such cool mini and buying another one would be impossible the price they're going for on ebay at the mo.
Everything else can go
Anyway as promised here's the Harlequin jetbike and also some weird Necromunda style figures (no idea who made them)
I've got a few more of these style mini's in the process of being stripped.
Happy Xmas all (bit late I know, but to hells with it!)...
Very nice festive termie Weety, the gold looked particularly well done (I always have a problem with it, which is a pain since my Chaos marines colour scheme has lots)... Nice minis there too headnhalf... In this era of plastic it's mad to see metal models that size (jetbike & ambull I'm looking at you)!
And as my contribution to the Xmas scranfest, I would urge everyone to try ecclefechan tarts, a Scots creation which, despite its slightly rude sounding name is bloomin' lovely!
dsteingass wrote:I have never tasted Tripe either, but it looks lovely.
It's not. My Grandad used to eat it with vinegar. It is a Bad Thing.
i just wikipediad trifle and the basic desciption sounded as if there might be some minior similaritis... and i do know about the italian background^^ of the tiramisu... of course! i do a very good one myself! to tell a truth...
at Archroy
translated just tripe...yuck^^ but your ecclefechan tarts i have researched and they do sound mighty delicious... some times they do have scottish food stuff in our shops...special weeks and such things and if i ever stumble upon this i will try it out...with cream of course!^^
Hey headnhalf - the dudes in the bottom pic look really cool (seen them on a mini site but can't remember which one - they are "bikers") - I think I have most of the RT space pirates though. I will definitely be placing a bid on the jetbike - but you are right about the ambull - the prices the rarer minis go for are amazing and I don't think my funds would stretch. So post us a link when you have listed them - I'm sure it will drum up a bit of interest.
It really was a truly monumental trifle - we are still eating it and haven't had the appetite to even touch the pudding or cake.
As for tripe, I believe we sell dried tripe in poundstretcher for dogs, and it smells of sweaty genitals (perfect for dogs). So on the strength of that I'm saying no to tripe
Automatically Appended Next Post: Playing fallout new vegas on hardcore mode - the ceaseless struggle for survival has never been so much fun. Simulated hunger, thirst and fatigue are my constant enemies. Actually to be honest I think there is to much food and drink in the game, I'm actually in precious little danger of starvation which I think is kinda disapointing
I am playing the crap out of it, trying to make myself sick of it, so I can say "feth it" and go over to my painting bench, but it isn't happening. I have now started referring to starting it up as "the double click of doom"
The Millenaire mod spawns either Hindi, Norman, or Japanese villages randomly, you can sell them stuff, which they use to build and upgrade buildings in the villages, followed by mini-quests, quite addictive, but such a time-waster, leveling entire mountains for cobblestone, or worse, for the Hindi villages, making mud bricks and setting them out to bake in the desert sun by the hundreds. Apparently, then you can buy a magic wand and create villages wherever you want. Please help me stop, I am going to need an addiction recovery center soon.
Painting with out a desk or lamp is very bad for the back - I keep having to lean right over my knees to get light on the model - damned ceiling lights. Time to get a lamp.
Light levels are a bit of a problem in this photo - I had to digitally manipulate it a bit to get any clarity and he still looks a bit wrong. Looks much better in RL.
I just got this OTT LITE with Daylight bulb for the painting bench from Michael's craft store yesterday for a steal of $50.00:
that's like only what? 5 Pounds in your money Do you have similar stores like that in the UK? Big haven for scrapbookers, knitters, artists, etc.
edit: @JB- I asked about daylight bulbs in the UK, it turns out they are not in every store there like they are here in the US. Their electricity is 220v (I think) so they don't even use the same Edison-style universal screw-in bulb like we do either (am I right?)
it depends on the light fitting - most UK lights are gas lamps and candles, lol. No I mean bayonet fitted.
But something like that would be good - that I can attach to the back of my chair and shine right over my shoulder onto the mini. You guys are lucky to have the space for a dedicated painting desk. 50$ is a steal, that's like only 30 squid, or a gram of purest gold.
The mini, now I look at it next to the other goliaths, is very darkly painted. Probably the time of year effecting me subconsciously.
Bayonet fittings? Really? You mean you weren't joking about oil and gaslight, I could have sworn that's all you had down your way
I have daylight bulbs in all my sockets and have a normal desk spotlight with a daylight bulb in for my work desk. Unfortunately, as the workroom was originally the master bedroom the fitted lights were two little bayonet candles that would be placed nicely for reading in bed, and thus their light comes at me across the desk - bugger all use for painting.
And one plug socket seems to have been tampered with by some rogue grots, so the desk lamp is now on the left of the desk, whereas I want it on the right.
I've made a new year's resolution to whinge more. So thought I'd make a start here
Its an absolute outrage monkeytroll - why is it that modern barge designers just don't take fine modelling crafts into consideration when positioning light sources. I just don't know at all anymore.
When you say "master bedroom" is that to imply that there is more than one bedroom on this barge? sounds like a pretty epic barge - I'm imagining something ramshackle and orky, made out of mismatched scrap metal and gubinz.
abominable snowman you have there Valhalla. Really quite abominable. Or abdominal?
Getting down to a delaque today - I've also tidied up and finished off the juves so I will have a posse together soon. Still no lamp - I'm going back to painting lying down to save my back. I will cane my neck instead.
Hold fire on that miss dee - I have nothing flying to stick them too as of yet!
Thanks gitsplitta and dsteingass - been watching your ratskins dstein. All those lovely buildings you have needed some occupants.
Yet another unasked for day off. I'm barely doing my contracted hours (normally we are on constant overtime). If the government were to cancel housing benefit like I know they want to then I would be homeless every January!
Still it means I might paint something -maybe my 2nd edition sentinel? Or a chaosy type thing... Hmmm. I have quite a few possible to choose from
