Flesh is Rakhart flesh, wash with reiksland fleshshade, Rakhartflesh layered, then layering Rakhart Flesh+ scar white, then a glaze of clearcoat+reiksland flesh shade, re highlighted with Rakhart flesh + scar white.

I am working on putting together the Stormcast Start Collecting. Pretty surprised at how poorly the miniatures go together for modern GW and a flagship line designed for kids. Contact points on the wings for the Prosectutors in particular are really wonky and small. Can see a lot of kids getting frustrated trying to make these dudes.
Look pretty decent once assembled though. Plan on making them into elementals in suits of armour.

Don't get me started on the shoulder gaps with the Soul Wars Stormcast...

Post by: Carnith
This is my exalted keeper who I started working on 3 weeks ago. I was given this around xmas by my friend who no longer wanted to play slaanesh. He didn't tell me, but it was china-casted. I didn't wanna bother with the hair tentacles and I gave her hair to stand out. I have an ice theme, so I gave her an ice sword, and the claws broke, so I gave her an icy touch. The base is spare elf bits and a starter sequitor that they hand out as freebies. The ice is just woodland scenics realistic water with tiny bits of white dry brushed since it's supposed to be ice.
Edit: I've tried to embed them from my imgur but it's not working. I'm bad at forum formatting...

I'm spreading my message as much as I can for people still struggling with push fit...
Some people keep saying the pegs should be cut away, I've found they go together really well if you apply plastic glue all the way around the pegs. It makes them go gooey and you can push them all the way in that way (would be near impossible without the glue).
76825
Post by: NinthMusketeer
It is not just about the pegs; I cut them away entirely and still had gap issues. I have had some small gaps before in GW push-fit nothing outside the norm for any random kit, but the Soul Wars squitors and castigators were just bad for some reason.

I had problems with the leader dude riding the big lizard.
Overall though I like the models I did not have a fun time assembling them. Perhaps it is also expectations, I expected them to go together a lot easier since they were designed for newbies and are the space marines of fantasy.
All done now though.

Just a quick and dirty update from this weekend:
Not an original conversion idea by any means but she was a lot of fun to build.
She was, sadly, too big for a 25mm base.
More importantly she'll be serving as a test bed for my colour scheme idea (blue skin following the T'au progression with a white snake body) and if it doesn't work for a whole army it'll at least let her stand out as a regular sorceress.

WOW @ the blood horses in particular! Brilliantly gruesome work on all of the spells. Really do love your archregent as well, I keep coming back to look at the purple fades and consider watering down my AP washes to give it a shot. I recently did some mutants with pale skin and purple inked mutated bits, but my purple washes feel really heavy handed compared to your work here, and not thinning my ink is no doubt part of the issue.

It's the opposite: the gold was actually given gloss treatment while the skintones are left with a matte varnish. It makes for a very stark contrast in shiny vs flat finish. That is probably picked up a bit with the camera lighting balance as well.

Hi all,
We're starting up AoS again at my FLGS so starting with a Starter Set Tournament. As i used to play Vampire Counts back in Fantasy it had to be the Skeleton Horde Box for me, although i opted for Mannfred and Hexwraiths over Arkan and Black Knights. So here's my efforts! Makes a nice change to all the Blacks and Reds from painting 40k Black Legion and Word Eaters! Last photo is them with my last remaining model from my Vampire Counts days!
Also I've decided to make some scenery so there's also my efforts on a Wizard/Necromancer Tower made from the Formula tins for my 8 week old baby! Early stages yet, but will be using this as a base for another tower, and a large church with graveyard.
Sorry for the rubbish camera work!

Only issue i had was the greenstuff gap filling i had to do. i have never used greenstuff for proper gap filling before so i have to hode it with lots of dark paints =P (in hindsight i should have trimmed the sword aswell, but i guess vamps has no issues using big swords)

Progress on Ylthari and friends - it occurred to me just now I don't know their names:
Found between the bark and the hair and the fidly bits there really wasn't enough surface area available to paint muscle fiber and stuff. I dunno... The skin looks really blotchy to me and I'm not sure how to fix it, or maybe it just needs a highlight.
The colours themselves are more or less where I want them and I've done some experiments with clump foliage and I'm going to aim to use matte varnish to harden it up. Hair is just celestra gray right now (need to finish everything under and around it before I shade with oxide and highlight with ulthuan), heading out after work today to pick up some remaining paints I need to do the metalics, power weapon fades for the sword and axe and a few touch up's here and there.

Aaaand with that, Ylthari Inc. is complete:
I'm actually really happy with how they turned out after all is said and done, topped them off with clump foliage from Woodland Scenics (olive on the revenants, light green on the bases) which I hardened with Vallejo paint-on varnish and drybrushed with nurgling green, and some realistic water effects, also by Woodland Scenics, which I just managed to apply without having it spill over the rim and make a horrible mess.
Together, they're the first properly finshed set of models I've done for my sylvaneth and prove out the swamp/wandering river theme I'd been talking about doing for years and I'm excited to do more.

On the painting queue behind the Herdstone is the Start Collecting box, a box of Gors (need them for one of the Battalions) and a box of Bullgors (because I like the Minotaurs and will find a use for them somehow). Oh and the Endless Spells (I see a possible combo with the crows and another spell you can cast thay uses Leadership, but that's about it other than annoying people with the horn I think).

Haha, that's brilliant (and, of course, beautifully painted! )
My latest delve into AoS has been with a trio of Nightvault warbands, because Elf Trees, Flower Ghosts and Balloon Dwarves are just perfect encapsulations of the artistic freedom of the AoS setting. For Thundrik here, I went back to my more 40k-esque approach, really dirtying up the gear to give it an authentic feel. He was a pain to work on, but I'm happy with the final result.

I hit up 29 (cause one broke during airbrushing) of these boys with Vallejo Ghost Grey, a slight white zenithal, and one thick coat( TM) of Plaguebearer Flesh

That's just a shaded bonecolour, same as the ribs, but with a fairly liberal coat of tamiya clear red. I still like that one better for fresh blood over blood for the blood god. Also dries a bit more glossy.

VERY slowly painting BoC (current progress on my Gorghon, and my finished Herdstone):
Gorghon (sorry abour the fuzzy back shot):
Herdstone:
BoC have ended up my slow build army as I am pushing things like how I paint skin (tattoos to come for the Gorghon as well as fur, leather, ect) so I started looking at another project I wanted to do, especially since Contrast means faster painting now: so for 40k I'm working on a Feral Orks army with conversions and count as (Morr Boys as Choppa boys, Boar Orks on Squig Hoppers to make Stormboyz, Boar Boyz on Terradons for Deffcoptas, Manger Squigs as all melee Deff Dreads, Stegadons for Battlewagons). All the "count-as" stuff will be things I can use in AoS as Bonesplitterz so I can build and paint two armies for the price of one.

It looks like the legs are too short because you can see the division of resin vs plastic. His "belt" looks more like parts of the legs once primed:
Also, it gives a better idea of scale.

Not much of a progress report so much as it is a notice that I've finally gotten off my butt and got back to work on my sylvaneth.
Thats 16 dryads block colored, washed, then drybrushed and I Think I'll build up the rest of them to that standard before proceeding with the next steps: painting the leaves, touching up the eyes and mouth with a little camoshade, laying down striland mud, adding water effects and foliage, before moving on to more singular models.

No actual AoS projects, but, I am actually looking at getting into the game.
Been researching factions because of Warcry and I got to say, FEC has me hooked. I like their background and can easily come up with an idea for a small warband to start.
So far what I have.
Warband: The Congression of Tooth and Nail
Leader: The holy knight of Tooth and Nail, the crusader paladin, Foulmaw.

I decided to revisit my Maggotkin and do some more painting on my Putrid Blightkings. Haven't touched them in months. While painting them, the color scheme I decided to use gave me the thought that they would be from Chamon, the Realm of Metal, since I was going for a very corroded/rusty feel rather than the typical Nurgle greens or bones.
WIP but they are pretty much done other than basing:

Currently I have a Skirmish/Hinterlands warband in the idea stages, which will be Fyreslayers in general, but with some twists to break up the lack of Fyreslayer unit variety (so it's not just a wall of half-naked Dwarfs with different weapons, lol). The core will be a box of the Chosen Axes, with a smattering of other Berzerkers or Hearthguard for reinforcement, but the twist is going to be some allied-in Sylvaneth rethemed to something more of a Duardin "feel" - namely, fire.
First up will be a box of Spite Revenants, but with the Aelven soul painted like glowing fire, and the bark painted in layers of grey and black, with glowing reds and oranges in some of the recesses. I was going to call them "Cinderkin". They are essentially lesser fire elementals that exist freely on Aqshy, but for protection against cooler environments they are welcomed into Fyreslayer forges, to inhabit bodies made of the charcoal provided for them.
For a heavy hitter (or two) I'm going have a counts-as figure using a Runewars Rune Golem on a round 50mm base, using the profile of a Kurnoth Hunter with Greatword (example below is not my paintjob). Just a standard Stone Golem, enhanced with Ur-Gold runes.

Finished my Loonbosses. The picture makes the purple one look almost black, but it's much more purple in real life. My friends are telling me to do a dry brush to make it lighter. However, I'm worried I'll mess it up and contrast paints suck to touch up.

Decided to paint the Feculent Gnarlmaw today. It was a bit hard with my Chamon theme since it's all wood, being a tree, and my wood style is a very dark brown, drybrushed with silver so it has a metal sheen, then dirtying it up and adding rust splotches.
I'm pretty happy with it though. Just a few more minor details like adding corrosion effects.

Excellent work on display - the Nighthaunts by Elmir are especially eye catching!
Just ordered some models to get started and it will be a small open game with a "mature gentleman"( Knight Incantor ) sorting out some Blue Horror trouble makers. Models - touch wood - should arrive Monday...
122274
Post by: SamusDrake
Finally got round to trying out the rules( Incantor vs 3 Blue Horrors ).
It feels a more streamlined and casual compared to other games such as 40K and Frostgrave, but I actually like that. Some games require cross referencing between the character's stats and that of the weapon they are using, and can feel a bit awkward, but Sigmar - from the very small game played tonight - kept the two separate where it made sense. Frostgrave - in comparison - feels the more logical choice for skirmish, while AoS seems perfect for full-on war..
Considering a proper game using skirmish rules from WD, and purchasing a Wight King and a pack of three ETB Liberators that I noticed yesterday in my newly-found local gaming store...
Stormcasts: Incantor, 3x Liberators - 200pts
Deathrattle: Wight King, 7x Sepulchural Guardians - 202pts
...projecting further into the future, I forsee a purchase of Storm Strike...possibly that swanky-looking Tomb banshee.

I have a few quick questions for all you fine folks, and I didn't want to start a new thread for them.
What is a ‘standard’ tournament-sized game of AoS played at? Is that also the typically played pick-up game size?
I’m in the early stages of planning an AoS experiment culminating in playing in a large tournament next year. I’m deciding between Orruck Warclans (focusing on brutes and higher as primary models), Moonclan Grots (mostly squigs) or Ossiarch Bonereapers (whenever they come out).
Last question I have is what books do I really need? I’m not naive enough to think that the ‘free’ app stuff is all I need, so what do I actually need to buy? My thought is currently the Core rules, the current GH and the army book for the faction I choose.

1) Standard Tournaments are 2K points. Though if there's a specific event you want to attend do just check ahead what the points are. They might also have a standard tournament pack which might reveal some custom rules/rulings that they use which might be important to know. This might include if they are using Realm Rules (these basically give you access to more spell lores and some bonuses/attribute changes)
2) Orruks are out on pre-order this weekend with their brand new Battletome; Grots already have theirs (gloomspite Gtiz) and Ossiarch Bonereapers are out in October (though we've no dates).
3) Get started with the Core rules and a Battletome and build from there. Note that GW is publishing a brand new rulebook that includes many of the expansion rules (such as realm rules) This is also coming out on pre-order this weekend and would be a great one-stop purchase to get most of the core and expansion rules that you should require.
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/09/22/coming-soon-middle-earth-mortal-realms-and-more/ (details in this post by GW).
Note this won't invalidate purchases like Malign Sorcery and Forbidden Powers as those sets still carry all the respective Universal Endless Spells models (which form the greater part of what you're paying for).
76825
Post by: NinthMusketeer
Definitely get that new book, as it takes what you need from three different books and puts them in one place. You'll only need that and a battletome, since the armies you are looking at have up to date* costs in them already
*Gloomspite do have a few changes via their errata document

Considering taking the AoS plunge. I dug my green skins out of a storage room. I started in on the night goblin/gloomspit gitz , but was quickly distracted by these orcs/orruk. The banner bearer absorbed some Waaaah! energy and traded up. The axe head is still loose so I can decide which way to turn it. The other converted weapons are from years ago. I'm unsure if I'll get the new book or try and trade these guys for some of the new gitz models. Either way, I'll enjoy getting them back into fighting form.

A journey of a thousand miles, single step. Yada yada. Havent painted anything in years and now my partner has gotten big into AoS 2.0. as in, we bought a 2000 point Deepkin army big. I thought I would start with just a Warcry Warband that I might actually get painted, might actually play in warcry and maybe even work into a Chaos army someday. Really neat model this one. Those capes are something special that I love doing, add a ton of flair and don't take very long to make them look great. The rest of the details took quite a bit longer and still not entirely satisfied with the skin or the clothes. The picture washes out the purple of the armor/clothes even more. However I think it's a good enough first step.

Unboxed just some of my AoS stuff to get them sprayed for some winter painting.
2x starter set Khorne army with some extra heroes and converted Deathbringer. Infantry need to be sprayed white for contrast paints.
2x starter set Stormcast army with some extra heroes, some converted. They’re primed except the flying guys whose wings I finished magnetizing last night.
The Black Orc army has been hanging around forever. I was doing Skarsnik’s night goblins (still in a box somewhere) with Grimgor’s Immortulz but the army languished. These are the only WHFB guys I cut off square bases and rebased. For a little while Grimgor has points and an AoS profile but now the model I converted is just a black orc boss and Grimgor has grown into a Megaboss. I cut off the goofy looking axe to make a heavy choppa, added a standard to be his helm slung over his back, and built him up so he’s almost as tall as a demon prince.
And, of course, Gotrek.
Not pictured: Night goblins/trolls, lizardmen, and a Chaos chariot/knight army from when chariots were core.

Got the first three test Mortek Guard done. As the faces are painted, I'm keeping the rest of the scheme as simple as possible. Zenithal highlighting on the bone, with a thinned sepia wash and Wraithbone highlights (to bring up the zenithal highlighting more), Vallejo Gunmetal for the armor with ironbreaker highlight. Snakebite on top of that for the brass, and decided to do yellow cloth.

I'm really proud of these. For people who don't know this, I have SMA, a kind of Muscular Dystrophy. That means, in this case, I basically have one usable hand, that only really half works. With a crapton of patience though, I paint and take a lot of pride in what I can do... which is good, because BOTH my in-laws have gotten into AoS and have me painting armies for them.
I'm about 100-ish Grots into an army for one of them, with these being the most recently finished. The dwarf is a test model for my father-in-law's Fyreslayers, using a random Avatar of War dwarf I happened to have handy. :-)
Meanwhile I have three Ard' Boys boxes of my own sitting at the end of a frightfully long queue. :-p

For some reason those photos aren't showing right though if I open them in a new tab they do - Great work Neomaxim! Love the colourful gobbos and squigs !

Thanks guys!
@BossSalvage it was surprisingly easy. When played purely for fun, AoS legit makes a fun game. Beer and pretzel hammer is legit.
I will say I kind of want to get through this mountain 'o painting so I can get back to updating my KoW armies for 3rd ed.

Doooooooo iiiiiiiiit
Speaking of Casualhammer, I'm theoretically 'working on' an Anvilgard army, because AOS carnage is indeed fun from time to time. Not a big push right now, since KOW is infinitely more a priority, but have Contrast paint, will clear some backlog

I put this picture in my P&M thread, but I managed to get a couple figures painted as good as they going to get for the Escalation League I am in. Nothing fancy, but the Sorcerer is good enough to change my profile pic to.

Finally pulled the trigger on a Chaos dwarf army.
It’s only 1k to begin with but it just happens to fall on my week off work lol.
Should get some good progress done on this.
Also loving the warnahorde dwarf idea.
May have to tinker with that myself as the skullcracker is gone from forgeworld and I need something to replace it’s model.

More than small unit, not quite enough to get the bonus rule. I currently have 40 Chaos Warriors total. I figure if I run two 20 man units I can be fancy and have two standard bearers with the Chaos mark being the real one. Otherwise, I can break my warriors into four 10 man units each with their own banner. Although, two of them will be missing horn blowers. By the way, I don't if it completely possible, but I like to think the warrior to the right of the champion wearing the gold skull helm made it out of a Stormcast Eternal helmet. Maybe the hammer too.

Got excited by the TW2 trailer so I rebased the Deathmaster. My "Hurricanum" is coming along. Should be done in the next day or two.
Next up is 60 gobbos and 10 Fanatics, then "Archaon" (awesome bearded Deathbringer with Spear on CC Emperor Dragon, then Gotrek and Skarsnik and Irondrakes and I think I see why I never get one force completed...

Well, so long as they’re legit and not recasts, I found Varanguard at $66/box. Waiting for confirmation, but I ordered them anyway. It’s a US store. If so, I’ll have 9 Varanguard by Christmas! (I have three of them already). Almost finished painting the first last night. Getting ready for the book!!

I decided to slowly get back into AOS and since I really never cared for how FEC played (despite them being really, really good) and with Nurgle being mid-tier at best I decided it was time for something else. Looking at armies the main one that appealed to me was Deepkin so I bought a Start Collecting box and finished assembling them last night.
Painting them is going to be a challenge for me since I normally paint things in a dark, gritty style so I haven't touched them with a brush yet as I'm trying to work out colors.

So all but promised they’re recasts. Sigh. Gonna wait for them to arrive then contact GW and see what they say. I know they generally take in FW recasts and replace them, but not sure what happens when plastic models are recast in resin (I was told Varanguard shipped to me are resin, but it was a stock message).

I got a few that I've been working on. Slowly working on a free city. My nomad princess that Venerable Dreadnought did the greenstuff conversion for me. Greatswords (just one, dont have all the models on me at the moment), freeguild general, and an anointed that was the sea captain for high elves. Lastly, an assassin that I kitbashed.
I really like the wild rider helm, and when i buy shadow warriors, I'm gunna put the antler mask on them as well. It'll be somewhat of a theme.

Figured I was going so conversion heavy it was the least I could do for my opponents.

On that subject my next project will be a Werewolf emerging from a Realmgate. Obviously a Treelord without the nameplate right?

Those name plates really do add a lot to models.
Just messages the guy to see if he’s able to do custom ones (using multiple icons on 1 tag) as I now want a fancy one for Gordrakks base lol.
Also going to grab one for Throt too while I’m at it.
It’s the little details like these that really add a lot to the models IMO.

They arrived in the mail today. Absolute recasts and multiple issues. I’ll be calling GW after their lunch break ends, letting them know what happened, and alerting them to the store. If I only get my money back, that’s fine. Warning...kidgiftstore is a website that claims to be in Fargo ND. They are not. My garbage recasts came from China. Avoid this place like the plague. Out of 6 Varanguard I could probably salvage 4. Probably. One has a mount torso not even formed; it’s 2/3 there.

Good luck getting your money back - though if you paid by card or paypal you could certainly have a case at false representation of goods. Be sure to take photos to prove your point and log all details.
I'm not sure if I've ever heard of FW or GW ever sending out replacement products for 3rd party recasts being bought. It might happen once in a blue moon, but I'd be very surprised if that was their general mode of operation (otherwise recasters would just send you the fake and say - hey just contact GW and they'll replace it for free)

I'm baffled by why you'd possibly think that GW would/should give you your $ back. Please explain your logic.
You'd have a better case pursuing mail fraud against kidgiftstore/through your credit card co.

Dude, NOWHERE in there did I say I expect GW to give me my money back. I’d get it from PayPal, if not KGS. I asked GW what route they wanted me to go to handle it. Sorry if that wasn’t clear, but as a veteran in this hobby for closing on 20 years, I wouldn’t expect GW to cough up the cash. I purchased through PayPal, they told me how to handle things, and that’s what I’m going to do. I asked a simple question before if they still request you to send them the forgeries and they help out because that was something they USED to do, as a “thanks for helping us shut down a pirate”. I didn’t know if they still do it (seems they don’t), but they told me how best I should handle it. Since it was their product being pirated, I of course asked them how they’d like it handled. I never even asked them if they still have the policy, just how I should handle it.

Thank you for vindicating my query. And I’m being serious. Because having never bought recasts before but seeing stories on here, I wanted to ask how GW responds these days vs how they used to. I wasn’t expecting to get accused of going after GW for my money back or “cheating the system”.

So, as a follow up...PayPal decided against me just because the seller “sent something”. I’m pursuing matters w/ GW’s legal dept in the matter as well, per their suggestion at CS. Frustrating. PayPal does NOT help against recasters and frauds. I detailed explicitly to PayPal that the product that was sent was fraudulent, recast, and of poor quality. The seller only sent in a tracking number and PayPal ruled in favor of them, no joke.

Perhaps if you could get official comment from GW to give to paypal to prove that the delivered product was a recast?
29784
Post by: timetowaste85
I kinda did. Got back in touch with PayPal, they actually LOOKED at my notes this time, did a fast double take after I said I have started discussion with GW and will be including the legal team in the matter. Case is reopened and I’ve told the seller all further communication will be with PayPal directly and I won’t communicate with them further.

Since it all started in this thread...no use opening a new one. GW has sent a letter from their legal dept to PayPal that the items are recast knockoffs and are requesting a full refund to me. So I’m still waiting for PayPal to chew on that, but GW’s legal dept has stepped in. And the models are going to be destroyed as soon as I have my refund.

That's nice of GW to step in like that, a lot of time companies don't like to get in the middle of things that don't directly concern them like that (they'd leave it to customer and vendor). Hopefully it does swing things in your favour with paypal.

It does directly affect them; it involves them taking a recaster off the table (I’ve already been working w/GW to make sure this guy’s shop is taken care of).

Talk about frustrating. PayPal agreed to full refund after I send models back. GW asked me to destroy them. Had to call PayPal back AGAIN, wherein they finally located GW’s letter that was sent, the case has been reopened, and PayPal has indeed told me to destroy them as well while they work on closing the recaster’s account, now that they’ve read GW’s letter of proof of forgery. Yeesh. At least they said it’s 100% in my favor now that they have proof from the creator that I’ve received a counterfeit item.

This is ironically why I include the FW bags and screenshots showing the purchase when I sell any FW models.
I’ll rarely if at all buy FW stuff off eBay as I’ve been burned too many times.
On the actual topic, I’ve been challenged to a 2 month painting challenge.
2k points in 2 months.
May sound easy enough but I’m an insanely slow painter.
Gone with Nighthaunt as I have most of the 2k already, so a few purchases will finish it.
Going with a speed painting idea but only for the cloth work, so hopefully adding in details like rust, glows etc will keep it around TT standard.
