I'm playing the same thing. If you keep your tech ahead of exalt a bit then exalt die like chumps even when they have laser weapons and some genetic implants.
If you want perhaps we could play a game some time. I have to warn you I have probably 700 or 800 something hours playing xcom: enemy unknown and enemy within. It's almost all single-player experience but it should translate somewhat.

I'm enjoying it, even the multiplayer. There are some things I'm not fond of(notably the dog in MP--dog has a ridiculous melee attack range and it will hunt people across the entirety of the map while not showing up on satellite scans) but overall the game is a lot of fun.

Yeah that is what I am going for with this build massive power from the staff and spectral throw not sure if I will have the dex to use it at high levels but it should be fun.

In enemy within? The first time I heard about the fishing village I took several heavies. I lost probably 4 guys of my 6 and won the mission but I didn't win that playthrough and this was on impossible difficulty. The first time I fought the base mission I won with one guy remaining. The next game I played things were pretty easy. I took out exalt like a bunch of noobs though the first time I did suffer some casualties esp. on the exalt base where I had only one guy remaining (enemy rockets can be tricky). A lot of this is based on how hard you can tech up and still based on officer training and some foundry stuff. I use some gene mods but not that much now. It was hard because I didn't know what did what but now I do. The only problem I had this game other than normal impossible difficulty was the xcom base defense and that's because I fought cyberdiscs, mechtoids, sectoid commanders and other crap all at once. It wouldn't have been bad but when you have 3 or so soldiers to start with and 2 get mind controlled off the bat or so then it gets pretty freaking ridiculous. I lost that base defense but I reloaded the game and beat it no problem. Last time I fought the fishing village I had no casualties. Oddly enough on impossible difficulty I only had to reload about 3 times which is a record low. Like I said staying ahead in tech can be pretty freaking important if you do it right. Sometimes it's just luck of the draw with missions.
@malfred: Actually I still think assaults can be useless but less so now. What difficulty are we talking about? It's obviously classic or impossible since that's the achievement. Only 4 guys is actually pretty hard since I go for squad size pretty fast. If I'd say classes you should probably have 2 heavies. It might sound weird but 2 heavies will give you lots of rockets and that can destroy a lot of cover as well as give you plenty of explosive attacks. Explosives help a ton at eliminating enemy cover and making the rest of your shots easier. The sniper can go on high ground and do pretty well. If you take supports take one at least with med-kits though early on smoke grenades are probably more useful till you see mutons and similar with plasma grenades. Thankfully smoke grenades are more useful now with mechtoids and certain baddies but it won't help vs psychics. Against psychics that can mind control you try to make your closest guys to them get out of line of sight since they pretty much force you to take a mind control. If you take a support go for the foundry two items upgrade and also get mimetic skin on them. Basically you should dash with this character and go into full cover. This is your scout obviously. You can also set up your attacks a bit back behind the scout and the scout can even throw things like flashbang grenades at the enemy (provided they're biological and not high psionic) and ruin their shooting horribly. It should allow you to see your enemies before they see you so that you don't walk into an ambush and can force the enemy into a storm of overwatches if they're coming your way. Make sure that you don't move your mimetic skin scout and possibly don't overwatch them either. Sometimes you shouldn't even hunker down with them as it ruins sight. If it just ends on them and an enemy is in their view just use some items on them that won't physically hurt them so you can remain in camo and use it to help your squad-sight snipers. If you have nothing to use and it ends on them then just click end turn.

I don't think I could play impossible with just 4 guys. I could probably play classic ironman on 4 guys but impossible I have enough trouble with just the 6. Squad size upgrades are usually the best early upgrades to get besides laser weapons.

Assaults aren't super weak it's just of the classes I use I try to use them the least. Sometimes they run off too far forward when you run and gun and another enemy squad gets spotted too soon only to flank said assault. I'm not sure if my old opinion of them still stands for 'enemy within'. They're ok just not fantastic. I love lightning reflexes the most of their abilities for some reason.
Defense heavy assaults might be ok but only if you throw them into indestructible cover and I say this because the grenades tend to start flying when your defense is too high if the enemy has any. If you have any sort of cloak ability at all you will not go for the free shot within 4 tiles ability. It ruins cloak and makes your guy a bullet magnet. I think it was 'bring it on' that added critical damage by +1 per enemy the squad sees up to 5 if you got a critical. It's good early on.
I suppose my problem is in harder difficulties you need heavies. Snipers can also use somebody as a scout like a support with mimetic skin spotting for you. I suppose the issue is for me assaults are too up in your face and I like to play carefully. If you played 'enemy unknown' you'd realize assaults were very 'in your face'. That's kind of the nature of that class. Anyway heavies are pretty much needed in classic and possibly impossible difficulty. Using at least 2 per squad with rockets and grenades will lower the difficulty of the mission to a fifth of the difficulty. Not to mention if you have a heavy major you get the minus 2 damage ability when in cover and if you stay in indestructible cover and don't get flanked and use combat stims then you get absurdly low damage from attacks to the point where the enemy will use 5-6 elite mutons to throw alien grenades at you and you'll still survive with just one guy. The reason why is first combat stims halve your damage and prevent critical damage and then you get the extra minus 2 to whatever damage you take while in cover and not flanked. So basically if they shoot their normal weapons at you they do crazy low damage. Probably 3-4 per heavy plasma if they hit and if you have titan armor on it's even funnier. Big time bullet sponge.
Also if you're talking about chrysallids and close combat then it helps but you're better off going with in the zone snipers. An 'in the zone' sniper can eliminate a whole horde of chrysallids without trouble esp. with ammo conservation since they always count as in the open. Find a decent area to see from and you'll see maybe 5 dead chrysallids per turn from one sniper.

Had a horrid mission where I lost 3 people, came back with one fine, one injured, and one civilian who didn't seem to like me (one of those Exalt guys I guess - I think it was the first of those missions).
Did the one where you rescue the Traid guy. That was fun. Faced Crysallids in my first error mission. Saved 8 of 18 civvies and lost one of my best snipers. Woosa no! She died as she lived... standing at the back doing nothing until a Crysallid jumped her.
Now I'm fighting Mutons for the first time, but for the first time in a while I have mostly laser weapons and all my guys were healed, so I've got lots of ranked up people with cool nicknames.
But I'm doing ok now. Few more days and I'll have a Satellite over Germany, and then maybe another in France. Genetics lab on the way.

It's only really hard to make the more elite plasma weapons as you can't capture aliens with them. You should absolutely capture mutons and most things and just use their recovered weapons. Remember you still have to research the tech for the weapon to use it though. Also weapons tend to have a minimum engineer count to make.
Sectoids and sectoid commanders are good to take weapons from. Light plasma rifles are ok to get but if you can get them you may as well just research the plasma rifle research and get the rest of the plasma research (I don't think researching light plasma rifles leads to the other more awesome plasma weapons either). Alien grenades are fantastic early on so capturing mutons or sectoid commanders has a benefit beyond just the plasma rifles as you can use them automatically when the enemy is captured though you will have to research to get infinite amounts of plasma grenades.
So yeah if you want more plasma weaponry then just capture some baddies with plasma rifles (usually mutons). You have to capture at least one to get the research. Also keep in mind you have to capture enemies anyway just to get a hold of the plasma tech that they use.
If you see sectoid commanders go out of their line of sight. They have to have line of sight to use psychic powers. Sure they almost always succeed in psychic attacks but they can only use them if they have line of sight to your guys. If they don't they just go on overwatch or try getting around and plasma pistols don't do jack anyway in comparison to the better alien weapons on overwatch. If your guys are far away like snipers then you may actually want to just throw them on overwatch but anybody near enough to sectoid commander can just stay out of their line of sight esp. with their first move and they'll be ok.

Finally beat XCom. Actually after seeing off the attack on my base it was a compete cakewalk from that point on. Only lost 1 guy for the entire remainder of the game and that was just a fluke. Most missions ended up being a total slaughterfest because all the new stuff you can get.
All the new content makes the difficulty spike in a weird place about a third of the way through but I'm glad to have it and I'm sure another play through is coming. I wouldnt say Starboud is too much different than Terraria.
Its got the same basic gameplay, mine stuff, make armour, kill boss and repeat. I think what helps Starbound is the sheer vastness of it compared to Terraria. Finished with a planet? Hop into your ship and go to another one. Starbound is still in beta atm with frequent updates. Its good but unless I get over 95 hours of play out of it then Terraria remains the better game lol.
It really a touch one to call imo, others may find it easier lol.

Starbound is a little cleaner than Terraria to me. I mean despite being in Beta its a lot easier to get my head around things. I would hazard waiting a while till the full release to experience the game properly, but for the moment it has good prospects. Yes there are a lot of planets, but the progression system's not fully implemented yet, so you may quickly find yourself without things to do once you reach what's currently the end unless you want to either build things, or look for the most powerful randomly generated weapon you can find to kill your friends with. =P

In other news: Feth Sectopods. Takes my entire team to take one of them out, and I've got two particle cannons!!!
You just need to make the PSI armour and slap it on your favorite psyker.
Yes Canuck is right. Sectopods only got this hard in 'enemy within'. They were never so hard in enemy unknown. Now for whatever reason damage done to them is lessened and heat ammo doesn't seem to do much of sh*t to them. In fact they used to be about as strong as as slower version of the mechtoid. Good thing about mechtoids is that if you have a heat ammo heavy with a heavy plasma and you have the ability where using the main weapon first doesn't end your heavy's actions (and therefore gives you two shots) then you can basically take a mechtoid down with just one heavy.

Completely agree with this. I played a couple hours of it with my girlfriend's brother, and we spent the entire time destroying other ships and finding islands. We only did one actual story mission XD
Is there any sort of crazy wall climbing and acrobatics like in Assassin's Creed 2?
Yeah still plenty of that. The city's don't have the same huge epic ness as Italy in ac2 but the free running Is still good. You can use trees now to help run between buildings.
Running along the mast of one ship to another or swinging across to take out someone on another ship is fun.
Sadly they seem to have done away with most of the chances to do knife in the crowd assassinations, which were probably my favourite parts of the older games,m

Got Tomb raider and Batman Origins at Christmas, played a little Tomb Raider, seems really good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's curious about it or on the fence. Even from the little i've played.
However i'm still trying to get through Darksiders 2. It's a funny thing, i find the lore and story Utterly uninteresting but there's something really compelling about finding out what the next relic or boss is going to look like. I couldn't care less about what 'the Archon' or 'the Lord of Bones' has to say for himself but i am curious to see him etc.
Now that i've written them down it's funny to see three Gear-Gated Action Adventure games (Or 'metroidvania games' if you don't know much about games). I think i'm gonna be severely burnt out on that style of game soon.

That's harder in the harder difficulties to do because sometimes your A-team suffers casualties just before you are satisfied with your team forcing you to train noobier guys and hope to god they don't die as well.
For 'enemy within' I suggest you take the gene mods that makes your guys impossible to mind control and also take the ability that always makes your guys bleed out instead of auto die and take an extra two turns to bleed out (for a total of about 5). The ability to always bleed out instead of auto-die is incredibly useful on your vets because you really don't want them to die.

Some folks started making it about 6 or 7 years ago when NWN2 first came out. Just finished mid 2013. You can get it from the Nexus mods website. Its supposed to be almost exactly the same as the original game, but ported into the 3.5ed and the NWN2 engine so much better graphics and what not. I made it about 25 minutes through the prologue with my ranger/bard/RDD then found out that you cant get past lvl 10 and completely lost interest. I wish they would continue a great story like baldur's gate all the way through epic level, like into the 30s or 40s or something and eventually achieve demigod status or something. Unfortunately, I have not found a single PC DnD game that achieves that (NWN2 MotB gets close but starts at 18 and ends at 30).

So it's the plot and events from the original Baldur's gate? And faithfully recreated? I may just have to dig out my NWN2 from wherever it's gotten to. Remember in the original BG you didn't even get to 10, so that seems fairly in-line with things. While I'd love for them to do TotS, BG2, through to ToB... I'll take a modernized recreation of the original for sure

I think they said that it includes the expansion as well which allowed up to roughly 10th lvl. I did not get into it very far but yes it is supposed to be as close to 100% identical story wise as they could possibly get with the NWN2 engine. They seem to have gotten a lot of it sorted, but I haven't played the campaign yet. A few minor annoyances with the 360 freezing and losing the save file, or occasionally unlocks not being available in the first game. But other wise it is pretty good.

I've just been playing a sh*tload of fallout 3. When the time came to sacrifice somebody for the water purifier I decided to throw in my follower Fawkes who was immune to radiation anyway. Overly heroic sacrifice? Not on my watch. Everybody lives including Fawkes because he was immune anyway and when sarah lyons stops being unconscious (I'm not a sick b*stard like some of you out there) there's going to be lots of my character boning with her ;P. Too bad it's the implied let's be in the same bed together while naked and kissing type of sex rather than the actual kind. Sadly it doesn't even have that much. While I think 'the witcher' makes their main character into a man-whore it's at least nice to see something even if it is a copy paste sex scene from what little I've seen of witcher 2. Just would be nice to see some characters that build up emotional connections to do a little more than say they like each other and blushing.

I felt I should be rewarded MORE for being a smart and progressive adventurer who saw past Fawkes' exterior and knew he was meant for something greater than his cage's incinerator button. But no, game decided to make me feel like a jerk for not jumping down the throat of heroic sacrifice.

Fawkes deserves more love I think and fleshing out. He was by far my most interesting, trustworthy and overall best follower of the whole game. I never even met that freaking dog yet if I will. Also Fawkes is a freaking tank. He makes the brotherhood of steel guys look like chumps and I don't think his health even got close to low.
I gave him a chance like a lot of people and it paid off so hard it was unbelievable.

Installed and started playing Far Cry 3. A few observations so far: 1. It’s a lot of fun. 2. I like how your hands/weapons are part of the environment, so that when you go near a wall your gun actually comes up and you can’t use it. Quite a bit different to most FPS where the gun is just a graphic that takes up no physical space in the world. 3. Crafting progression is silly and arbitrary. I need two boar skins to build the next weapon sling? Ok. Done. Now I need… three goat skins? Why can’t I just use the other boar skins I have? Wait now I need two leopard skins? Why are my guns so precious that one of them demands I craft a leopard skin holster for it? This is one area where TB was 100% right. I’m charging through them because I’m persistent, but it doesn’t make it any less stupid. 4. All my deaths have been funny so far. First death was when I went to hunt boar, and ended up staring down a Sumatran Tiger. The exchange was: “Ok, I’m at the way point.” “Oh, some bandits. I’d better get down.” “What was that growl?” “Is that a tiger?” “That’s a tiger!” “It’s seen me.” “It’s coming right for me!” *blam blam blam blam blam* “Ahh! It’s got me!” *blam blam blam blam blam* *dies* Another death came from me sliding down a steep hill for about half a second and hitting a small rock. It was so stupid. And the final time was me getting ganged up on by Komodo Dragons. I got them back though. 4x4 across your spine – take that you fething lizard! 5. The game looks ever so pretty on my PC. All settings on max, some parts just look real. 6. My first time in the water was hunting down blue-flowered plants. I looked to my left and noticed a distinctly crocodilian shaped shadow in the water. Swam to shore, looked back and lo and behold, there’s a crocodile hiding in some lilies. A few rounds later I was collecting his hide. 7. The game told me that my next weapon required a shark-skin holster, and for that I needed two sharks. Hmm… I wasn’t about to go hunting sharks in the open water plus water-based enemies just freak the hell out of me in video games (I blame the Ichthyosaur from Half-Life for giving me that phobia… of maybe the eel things in Quake 2). Anyway, I was nearing a coastline with the patrol boat I’d found when I jumped back into the water and noticed a few schools of fish and then something… bigger. Jumped back into my boat and yep, there’s a shark milling around. Well… lucky I just happen to have a Russian 12.7mm mounted machine gun here. That made fishing for sharks easy. 8. Spreading fires look amazing. Did it by accident once. Fire went everywhere whilst some crazy leopard took everyone else out for me. I’m liking this game.

My Far Cry 3 saga continues. My deaths continue to be very silly.
1. Got killed by another komodo dragon. It attacked me while I was fighting bandits. Came back and ran over all of them in my car. That’s my preferred anti-Komodo measure: Run the fethers over!
2. I had to go shark hunting again, which is more difficult without a big machine gun. Damned bull sharks take two sniper rounds to take out, but I got there in the end. Freakiest part was when I was swimming back to my boat and swam over a shark. It didn’t get me, but I drove my boat into the coastline as fast as I could to get away. I hate sharks.
3. Was moving on an enemy camp when I heard a low growl. It was a tiger, but it hadn’t seen me. I marked it and then slowly waited for it to go away. Then I saw another one quite far away, and then the one that was right next to me. I’m glad I have an upgraded shotgun.
4. What’s that Mr. Komodo? You can’t climb? So you can’t get me standing on top of my car? Hahaha! Eat shotgun!
5. Ok… so I need cassowary skins for whatever picky upgrade item I need next? Ok. There’s an island with them. Cool. Oh look, wild dogs. I hate wild dogs. Oh God it’s biting me. Ha, got you. I have no health. Oooh, the cassowary is big and AHH! It head-butted me… why am I dead?
6. Fine! Go back to the island with the cassowaries. Sniper one. Sniper two. Collect skins. Why are the others slowly walking towards me? It’s probably nothing. I’ll go and find the collectable thingies on this tiny island. Hmm… the cassowaries are following me. Why do I feel like I’m being hunted. I’ll jump up here and quickly mark them all so I know where they are. Into the bunker I go, got the letters and some other junk I can see. Hmm… one of the cassowaries is really close now. It’s coming right up to me. Hmm… should I…? Ok. Shotgun time. Blam. OH GOD THEY’RE SWARMING ME! Ahh! I thought these were harmless birds! AHHHH!!!
I’m more afraid of cassowaries now than any other animal.

They're like God-damned Velociraptors, especially with the slow walk towards you and the way they surround you. I wasn't expecting it at all. I'm never going back to that island unless I have to, and if I do go back I'm going there with a fething flamethrower.

My first death on FC3 was to a Cassowary.
No animals that I see live - just as a precautionary measure.

The only animals in FC3 that ever killed me are Tigers and Crocodiles. Now considering that I've had an odd anxiety and fear issue with video game animals since I accidently alarmed a giant, pixelated husky dog of death which snuck up on me back in Medal of Honour: Allied Assault's second mission, and then proceeded to never play that game again, it was pretty unnerving when it did happen.
Especially this one time when I decided to swim through a cave to find some secrets and get past this natural rock barrier faster only to get snapped on halfway through by one of those ugly buggers. As is procedure I immediately smashed escape and caught my breath.
Tigers are pretty much the sole reason I always take a Flamethrower with me unless an RPG would be far more preferable for a mission.
Cassowaries were easy though. Never even got close to dying to one once and it was only 3/4 of the game when I was literally told by a forum-goer that they were dangerous did I realize they can actually kill you. To my memory they're a lot slower than Tigers, because if they spot you unless you're ready to shoot them and have a high damage gun with enough ammo to kill it, you're going to get pounced, no matter what. Also, I seem to remember that they had about a quarter of the health of a Tiger and one AR burst was sufficient to kill them.

They're by no means tough - they die if you so much as breathe on them - but they can come in big groups. They are fast, but not initially. Initially they'll just walk slowly around, edging ever closer. Shoot one though and the whole pack goes ballistic. I had backed myself into a dead end with a shotgun when the whole group came at me. It was frightening. And it's worse because you don't expect it. I mean, it's just a big dumb flightless bird right? I mean, Emus and Ostriches and Penguins are all flightless birds and you wouldn't go running from one of them. Nope. Cassowaries are Far Cry 3's Raptors. Avoid at all costs.

I dunno man Emus and Ostriches are fugging brutal, they can literally stomp you to death with those claws. I'd be more concerned by one of those than like a large deer or something. Maybe not a moose, those are huge, but yeah... big birds are scurry.

Have to disagree there, emus and ostriches are easily capable of killing a full grown human, one kick can do it. That said, cassowaries are actually the most agressive out of all the big flightless birds we still got, and quite skilled in the art of showing you your own intestines.

I didn't say those bigger birds couldn't hurt someone, just that they generally wouldn't. They're more likely to high tail it out of there at the first sign of trouble (their cheif weapons are speed). The Cassowary... the damn thing hunt you.

Torchlight II is wicked awesome! You'll totally dig Multiplayer with it.
I'm currently playing Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection (I think that's what its called) on the PSP. I'm currently on Final Fantasy IV at the moment... not sure if I'll bother with the Interlude or the After Years, though, to tell you the truth... I just want to check off FF IV on my list of FF games I've played.
Every now and then I'll continue my single player campaign game of XCOM: Enemy Unknown or Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising on the PC... but mostly focusing on FF IV right now.

Yikes… Far Cry 3 gets a ramp up in difficulty once you hit that second island. I hate bullet sponge bad guys, and those mercenary heavies just soak up the damage. I can put 2 magazines of sniper rifle fire into them with my trusty Remington M700 – a gun that has served me very well so far – and they just don’t die. Worse, the ammunition wastage was costing me so much that I ran out of money.
Luckily some bright spark managed to find out the dev console command codes for god mode and unlimited ammo, so I turned those on for a while until I got my money back up and unlocked the .50 cal sniper rifle. I then found out the .50 cal can get a suppressor, as unrealistic as that sounded to me. No I have something that can take out heavies, and can go back to playing the game normally.

Oh he has a backpack. And an ammo pouch. And four weapon slings. And a syringe pack. And an explosives pouch. And a thrown weapons pouch. An arrow quiver. A rocket pack and his wallet.
The pack is somewhat magical. Sometimes it can hold 96 leaves. Other times it can hold the skins of 96 bears.
Honestly the crafting thing is about the most artificial thing in the game but it does force you to explore the island, so that's a good thing.

Post by: H.B.M.C.
It's not that much of a limitation. I ran out because I walked into a situation I wasn’t prepared for. Most of the time you have more than what you need.
But generally Far Cry 3 is excellent. It gives you an expansive world to explore with plenty of variety to be found and lots of different methods of getting around. It has a fun story that plays on the conceit of FPS protagonists that murder hundreds of people a day and has you playing through the eyes of a guy who gets a little too used to killing. The combat is visceral and exciting, and you can approach the game in many different ways. I tend to go the stealthy approach (and stealth works really well in this game), finding good vantage points, marking targets, using distraction techniques, silenced weapons and various other tricks.
And then occasionally a tiger jumps you whilst you’re lining up the perfect shot.

Played through Fallout these last two days, good fun, especially now that I decided to take something completely different: Small Guns, Stealth and Repair along with thFast Shot and Bloody Mess traits, because of the alternate ending.
Also, managed to score me a suit of power armour, got that hardened, but ended up not really needing it as stealth worked a whole lot better than I thought, especially paired with the ability to talk the Master out of his wicked ways and sneaking my way through Mariposa virtually unopposed thanks to a high stealth skill.
I love this game.

Is it only just me here, but FO3 was weak compared to the others in the main series, especially one and two. And best game ever? If we were going for the FPS RPG genre, I say Deus Ex gets that almost hands down over FO3.

Yeah, at the time I was happy Fallout 3 happened just because I didn't want the franchise to die; that said compared to 1 & 2 it was pretty garbage. I liked NV better than three because of the setting, a little more humor, and a better UI/upgrades and crafting system, but it still wasn't as good and 1 & 2.
And now Wasteland 2, kiddies!

The one thing I couldn't stand in that game was how filthy everything was! I mean, I can understand it in the abandoned cities, or the vaults were people were sealed in longer than they should have been, but in places people built? Why was Megaton pretty much covered in dirty old newspapers and muddy cardboard boxes everywhere, including indoors!? Could nobody take a hammer and straighten out some of the bent up table legs? Replace a couple of the broken locker doors? I mean seriously!

Post by: Bromsy
Yeah, that really bothered me. I got it in Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 - some areas seemed a lot more built up than 1; the NCR and Vault City areas were nice while there were other less built up trashy areas. But Fallout 3 especially felt like it took place thirty years after the war, not 200.

Honestly though rpg's aren't really my thing. I much prefer rts games and strategy in general. If anybody wants to play any games I'm all for it when I have the time.
Recently I bought the whole 'company of heroes' series, torchlight 1 and 2 (got a 4 pack for me and my friends), world in conflict and soviet assault and 'the secret world' (I plan to join the illuminati faction in the game currently). These were all bought on sales with Christmas money.
I might also play xcom some more. Some friends talked about it with me that there should totally be an exalt campaign. I think their genetic enhancements could be really sweet and the faction overall has a nice style even if they are illuminati stereotypes.

I had a bit of fun with planetside 2, usually got on at low traffic times of the day or what have you, and spent too much money on goodies... but fun nonetheless. I found it especially fun to abuse the engineer's AV turret for pinpoint sniping (and of course killing vehicles), and to run people over with the flash. And fury flash, and wraith fury flash. Lots of flash.

Still kicking ass and taking 'Mech names in MWO - mostly, anyways, now that I'm sticking to the nimble Jenner and hulking Battlemaster.
Also, Starbound, though I've noticed it's been a week since I last logged in, probably due to my subconscious wanting to wait for the final wipe before investing further time. Really hope wiring is going to be fixed, as it was fun automating half my home base (the other half is occupied by a barbarian who refuses to update her wood-and-hay environment to the steel-and-glass interiors of my penthouse sci-fi lab).
Other than that, I've started fooling around with the fanmade Attack on Titans game. I have just finished watching the first season on Netflix and randomly stumbled across a number of "Let's Play" vids on youtube, which were rather amusing to watch - and which caught my interest in the hopes of replicating the intense action of the anime. It's rather cute, but also surprisingly detailed, given that you have limited gas, must switch blades once in a while, and have differently coloured flares to signal your teammates. Also, there's an emote for the salute!
Mostly playing as Mikasa. Her special attack is fairly vanilla compared to some of the other characters available, but she was just too badass in the show to pass up~

World of Tanks. I have put entirely too many hours into that game in the last two weeks. This is also the first time i have ever been in a clan. I got recruited my first night in the game. It is a newbie clan but it is cool to have other folks to play with.
My in game name is SickSix if you happen to play and want to platoon. I play on the east coat server.

Still have yet to watch that show (attack on titans) but I've really been meaning to.
I imagine mikasa's about to throw up with all the twirly whirls and spins in that attack. Watching all that fast motion so much is kind of bothering my eyes actually.
Btw it's nice to see you around again.

I've been playing 'company of heroes 2'. I suppose I can see some of the complaints for Russians finding that game offensive. I wouldn't know how much of it was true considering eyewitness accounts or stories. I always thought any army but esp. soviets threw propaganda and BS reports as morale boosters. The story feels a bit weird. It's like bad guys vs bad guys (at least the leaders) with good guys sprinkled into the mix but maybe that's just my perception being an American in this day and age . I suppose if you really want to think of it they painted the one antagonist soviet officer as a huge jerk but most of their side seemed decent enough. Conscripts as a unit always sound like they're about to sh*t their pants whenever they do anything. I suppose I can see how Russians would hate that too.

 Of course!
I got that two Steam sales ago! I should play it.
Space Marine just seemed too freaking grim-dark. That's a good chunk of why I'm not really a fan of 40k and prefer warhammer fantasy now. At least in fantasy things can be both dark and light spirited. In 40k if orks didn't exist it'd be entirely grim-dark to where it pukes it out of its *sshole.
Blood Dragon sounds like it could be fun. I might try it if I get the chance.
*Edit* 'The secret world' finished downloading. I suppose I might try it out but I have quite a bit of schoolwork to do.

And no worries - practice makes perfect. Just keep at it, stick to your lancemates, and try to catch up on all the small, potentially useful details like missile bay toggle, free look, cockpit light adjustment, etc.
The game assumes you begin playing by already knowing a lot you don't actually get told, so it pays off to read the forums, the wiki, or even Battletech background in general.
Also, some helpful links:
Smurfy's Mechlab
MWO Heat Simulator (for planning/previewing weapon usage)

Aside from a few annoying moments (like when I select a research it has a cut scene telling me I chose that research - i think why are you telling me that? : meh that's modern gaming ) it has to be hands down the best game I have played, I was actually thinking normal was too easy until I got to the zombie mission (brazil) and half my regular team was out.
It also doesn't have auto save on automatically - old school gaming awesome right there - I am now starting my game again as my fave trooper died .

Yeah, I know at least who all is or will end up as a permanent member of the squad. Garrus is fine, dude's a bro. Liara's not bad, either. I'd happily dump James, Tali, and Ashley, though. In fact, I may dump Ashley - I originally saved Kaidan however many years ago it was when I played ME1, because I said "Biotic officer > grunt trigger-puller," but then I used a savegame editor to reverse that decision when Kaidan decided to hug me and hold up a boombox playing "In Your Eyes" when I met him in ME2.

I've been dumping way more time than I probably should be into a game called "Doomrl".
Just imagine what would happen if Doom got dwarf-fortress-ified. It's got about 50-70% of the frustration involved in roguelike games with none of the hair pullingly complex controls/other minutiae that makes roguelikes incredibly unfun (to me).
It plays a lot like a "top down FPS" actually, just move around, dodge, and shoot. Of course sometimes you run into the odd "bonus level" you're clearly not supposed to survive unless you know what you're doing...

I'm currently playing The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (what a horribly clunky name) due to its current Steam sale.
Its not actually all that bad. Its clearly been rushed (or rather restarted half way through its development), there are some bugs and it has nothing at all to do with the other XCOMs aside from some of the aliens.
It has some decent ideas and its sufficently interesting to have kept me entertained this weekend.
I was playing Bioshock:Infinite but it really disappointed me. I was expecting something along the lines of the first Bioshock but having to plow through wave after wave of disposable mooks has made me realise that it is just another manshoot. The setting is interesting but its not the game that I was looking for.
This article sums up my feelings on the game nicely(although I didn't get very far in it).

Just loaded up diablo3 again. Didn't even have to patch. I still think they should have just named it Super Demon Click 3, but itccan be fun in it's own way. Supposedly the AH is going out back with old yeller, and a more reasonable loot system will be the surrogate. That, plus expansion, has me interested enough to give it another go. And my friends will be playing, which is st least half the draw.
Probably still play BG 'trilogy' for years to come.

I saw someone talking about that on youtube. Apparently you can't actually choose which way your character levels up and the skills are all auto assigned based on class level, or something like that at least. I don't know much about the game.
That alone would be enough to make me stay away from it. Diablo 2 has its share of horrible features, but at least you can build your character how you want.

You gain access to the skills, but just because you get a new one does not necessarily make it better.
For example when I ran a bow wielding Demon Hunter, I went trap heavy and never used some of the shots/special abilities.

Post by: GrimDork
Yeah, they don't auto-assign anything, you just don't get points to spend. More like how you gain new spells in WoW or game of your choice as you reach certain levels, then you pick 6 skills to use from the batch. So no, you don't draw up a skill plan and either hoard skills or carefully invest them as you go, but if there's a particular spec/gear combination you want to play, you just do it. It would be comparable to having the same character swap being a hammerdin to using some kind of zeal build in all of 6 seconds, as long as you had the gear.
Having said that, and only having played to level cap once and being no expert, I think gimmick builds like whirlwinding assassins and throwing mastery barbarians and the like don't exist in the same way... but that's probably a fair trade to have unlimited respeccing on the fly that only costs your stacking magic find buff.
The only thing I didn't like as I played was the difficulty in getting meaningfully useful gear to drop. You might get a unique bow, but they still have random stats, and it might be sub-par or even effectively useless with a bad roll behind the scenes. Something they did for the console release is getting implemented either with or really close to the new expansion that *hopefully* makes that less of an issue.

Not really, its an turn based rpg at heart. The map mechanic does make it look like Oregon trail, but its deceiving. Its just used to show you going from one area to the next really, you do need supplies to rest but its not like you need to fix wagon wheels or Bjorn has Dysentery, or anything like that.

Soldier class, specialising in sniper rifles.
I find I enjoyed Mass Effect 1 the most though because I could snipe enemies from 200m+ away and it felt like there was more skill, there also seemed to be more depth in the side missions in the original. I also like the MAKO quite a lot even though it is like a space hopper on wheels!
70053
Post by: GrimDork
I kinda hated both the mako and planet scanning. Scanning was *slightly less frustrating. I liked the way weapon mods worked in the first game. Could make an AR that more or less couldn't overheat, and a sniper rifle that overheated every shot from its over clocked high power.
82895
Post by: hellrath
Yeah weapon mods were good, but I don't blame you for hating the MAKO Do you mean planet scanning as in resource scanning in 2 or just exploring on the surface in 1 because both were quite simple and maybe at times a little dull but both were better than mass effect 3's amount of interactive planets.
70053
Post by: GrimDork
I compared driving the MAKO around to planet scanning. Usually if I'm running around with the potential to shoot dudes, I'm not too put out. I don't mind that there was a resource that let me upgrade my ship and keep people from potentially dying etc, and I don't feel that it was terribly too grindy (probably change my mind over multiple playthroughs but I never did that), but it was awful dull. The MAKO, however, was dull AND frustrating. Just seemed like it was easy to flip the damn thing over and it took forever to get places sometimes. Kind of like when you're playing skyrim and headed to a mountaintop location from the wrong side, *almost* can climb it but 15 minutes later you realize its futile =\

The MAKO was the bane of my ME1 playthroughs. It controlled like a sugar-high puppy on steroids, but the jumps were fun; playing with the Geth by bouncing over their shots and jumping on top of armatures and the like was highly amusing.
70053
Post by: GrimDork
Oh man, that was the one nice thing about it. You ran over all of the little geth for minimal xp, then you shot the big one until it's almost dead and run it over, parking on top. The you disembark and shoot it on foot for way more xp than killing it in the MAKO

Hahaha, using the mako to ram things was the best! You could just keep ramming armatures till they were halfway up a mountain and then just leave it and snipe it from far away.
Planet scanning was great when I got big deposits, but clearing planets of resources was a grind.

I like the Warhammer Space Marine game. I have it for ps3.
But I just purchased StarCraft 2 and Batman Arkham City. I know, I get on these video games a little late.
I started playing through the campaign of SC and was just telling myself it is Space Marines vs Tyranids.
70053
Post by: GrimDork
I don't know the tale as it goes, but I coulda sworn it was said somewhere that SC was meant to be some kind of warhammer game with marines nids and eldar, dispute leads to having to establish it's own IP. Or something. And maybe someone was making that up too. But yeah, it does have a lot of resemblance. You'd probably need heart of the swarm, but people will be playing SC2 online for.. well ever, until there's a 3 or a mass movement back to the first game (its possible). I had fun with the campaign too though, good stuff. I liked space marine too, it felt more halo-ish with the shield and armor as two separate bars. The player base didn't stay around very long for PC though. Dreadnought was cool, played it maybe twice, it was taking lascannon and plasma cannon shots like they were nothing and mauling my whole team lol.

I tried the new DnD online and couldn't stand the cartoony graphix and extreme lack of character customization and the kiddie super fast level advancement. I want to play a rogue/wizard but even though its DnD, they used the crappy 4th edition as base rules, and you cant multiclass.
Still looking for a good RPG which has good customization and decent graphics that aren't designed to entertain toddlers. Ill even take sci fi or fantasy.

See I always felt (my local group as well) that 4th edition was built like a video game first and as the pen and paper game we are used to second, which is why it failed somewhat as the pen and paper version. It would be a perfect format for a video game but DDO doesnt really follow a format. Neverwinter online is much better IMHO. It followed 4th edition much more closely, except that you build energy during combat to use your daily powers rather than being limited to using them once per day, encounter powers have short cooldowns, and at-will powers are your auto attacks.

Post by: GrimDork
Yeh... I always figured daily powers would amount to an MMOs 5-min CD or so.
As much a I dont love 2nd end BG series still ranks super high on my favorites list. Icewind dale 2 is probably my favorite variety of 3+ ed, I like the custom party but I wish it had npcs like the BG saga.. you can always set up MP offline if you *really* want a custom party...
