I installed Skyrim yesterday. I clocked about 40+ hours on the PS3 version, but gave that up a while ago. With my new PC I thought getting Skyrim would be a good idea. So far I've got SKSE, BOSS and the Nexus Mod Manager plus all the unofficial patches in the right load order. Tonight we start installing some actual mods, and then we start playing.
Skyrim is one of those games were the flaws become more evident every time you play. I got to level 30 on my first character, then on subsequent playthroughs I usually quit to refresh the experience between levels 6-10. Literally by the time you've got Leather/Steel armour, or Steel weapons, the game stagnates in terms of gear variation for hours. At best, you'll pick up maybe a Daedric Artifact or enchanted Steel/Iron weapon, but honestly it just bores me to tears.
Using alternate start mods with themes is pretty fun, say starting with crap stats, no Helgen mission stat gain, and only the items of a peasant. Still gets boring after a couple of hours though.
Not sure if Col. Dash is playing the same game as me? It's pretty much exactly D'n'D 3.5, the only big differences are wizards having "spell points" rather than uses per day, which given the combat heavy nature of MMORPGs wouldn't have worked. But all the feats and skills are there, and you can definitely multiclass- I've got a Ranger 3/Rogue1 so that I can spot, listen, hide and open locks and disable traps.
It's not 4th edition at all!
Though it wouldn't be terrible if it was, either, 4th would be well suited to an MMO.
What I like about it is the fact that when I clear a dungeon, it is cleared forever. It makes me feel like I'm having an effect on the game world, unlike WoW. Also the quests tend to be slightly more interesting than the average WoW fetch quest.
I also like the art style, because it means the game can run on my crappy laptop!
Try tier IX-X on a free account...especially a ST-I which has no shared modules at all so you have to grind everything and you start with a gun that can barely penetrate on tier tanks, never mind tier Xs and which loses you credits nearly every game due to your low damage output and the sheer cost of ammo and repairs. 'Only' 60k exp to go though before I get a tier X gun.....
In fact I think the worst tank to grind is the 38TNA as its classed as a light tank so it ends up in tier VII games all the time. The problem is that its far too slow to be a scout and its gun and armour are completely ineffectual agains tier Vi and above. I eventually gave up even trying and used free EXP to buy a Pz IV. The sad thing is that its a good medium tank, it just rarely find itself in tier IV games.
A really, really good Tier IV to get is the Hetzer, its an absolute monster with the 105mm gun.
Its a good game and I enjoy it but good god the grind.....

After experiencing the grind of IV to V, I am under no illusion whatsoever that it'll get any less frustrating with higher tiers, nor even stay close to the same as it currently is.
You don't really need to go past tier V/VI though, the higher tiers are basically the same except that matches are slower paced due to long reload times and the need to aim more carefully. Most of my favourite tanks are tier VI and below (KV-1/2, Hetzer, M4,AT2, Hellcat, T18..). My KV-2's crew are on their 4th skill advance now....
The secret to enjoying the game IMO is to ignore the grind, you will get there eventually.
Just bought farcry 3 for my ps3 as was on sale. Have to finish mass effect 2 first though, just getting the last few trophies so can gain my first platinum

Vanilla, and I prefer House Julii (I know more about the Roman style of warfare than Greek, being a history buff), though i have been trying to find a skin for the spartan hoplites, they don't look anything like they are described in historical texts.

Yeah, considering that Roman formations where much more flexible (along with most highly trained Military) compared to others in the Ancient Known World. And I agree, the vanilla skin they had for the Spartans not only did not match, but looked relatively silly as well.

What tank were you grinding by the way?
Pretty much, though my favourite tank is hands down the AT7. Still shrugs off most fire coming your way and has an accurate and fast gun.

Its slow and has massive weak spots, its not one of my favourites
When the British TD line was first released I held the right flank of Himmelsdorf solo against 6 enemies (I ended up killing 4 of them) with an AT2 simply because no one had worked out to shoot the cupola......sadly this is no longer the case
I prefer 'derp gun' TDs, my current favourite is the SU152, its one of the few tanks were the stock gun is superior to the other 'better' options
For the Brits I want the Comet mainly. For Germans I want the Panther, Tiger, and Jagdpanther. For the USSR I want the T-34 (76 & 85), KV-1, SU-85, and SU-100 (although the T-54 is one of my all-time favourite tanks, so it'd be great if I could get that). US I want the Hellcat.
It's really not a matter of wanting a single Tier X, it's wanting so many Tier V-VIIs.
The Cromwell is like the Comet, but better and the rest are easy enough to get (the SU100 was quite disappointing though). The Hellcat is a bit annoying as its pretty poor until you get the 90mm gun so the grind isn't much fun.
I've not really bothered with the German line, my highest German vehicle is the Hummel which is tier VI. I played them quite a lot in the beta but I never really liked them all that much. I should probably get myself a Tiger at some point though
When you get the KV-1 you need to at least try out the 57mm gun, it has good penetration for its tier and has a very fast RoF, mine gets a round off every 1.98 seconds with a fully trained crew and a rammer. Basically its a 57mm machine gun and its an absolute murder machine against tier V and below. Most people get all misty eyed with the 85mm but I would urge you try try out the 57mm, its genuinely great. At least it is usually, when the match maker puts you up against tier VIIs there isn't much that you can do other than track them (if you are lucky).
What bothers me about the BG:Evil bit is how it seems to punish you for being evil mean at almost every turn, rather than give you extra money and expedite your quests at a cost of lost morality and potential future consequences. Usually it's just get into a fight instead of not, or don't get a rep point.
Seems like you're either playing it BG:Good or BG:Opportunistic, going flat out evil madman just gets you into trouble.
Still, I'm due an evil run... Maybe a thief mage, or cleric mage... either seems to compliment the bg2 evil characters. Still have yet to do the Hexxat and Dorn quests.
I wasn't playing a flat out evil madman but I got my rep down to 1 in less than 5 hours. I did things like killing those dupes for Silke in Beregost when you first meet Garrick.
Now, I'm a seasoned roleplayer. I don't do gak like that for no reason. My character was neutral evil. At the time, she was under a curse and needed 500 GP to have it lifted at the temple. Silke was offering 300 GP for killing those dudes, plus a cover story so that I wouldn't get in trouble with the guards for doing it.
I think that was an entirely legitimate play style decision; not just some OTT chaotic evil nonsense. In response, the game sends hordes of OP mercs to kill me. This is stupid for at least four reasons:
(1) defending myself against these mercs also counts as evil for the purpose of losing good- and neutral-aligned companions (during the fight!!!);
(2) the mercs attack at the entrance to Friendly Arm, the only location where I can donate to a temple to gain rep so as to not be attacked;
(3) I understand people friends and family of my victims putting a mark on my but these guys claim to be the law and I was careful not to do anything that would get me in trouble with the guards (while any were looking); and
(4) even if there are bounty hunters, they don't need to be so much more powerful than my party. That just reads transparently as a punishment for not playing a good or morally conflicted party.
And it's not the only punishment. Low rep means that some merchants (turns out, many if not most) will not do business with me. Meanwhile, high rep parties get discounts.
I think the worst part is not just that the game forces you to maintain a high reputation but that if you are evil you can only do this by giving away your hard-plundered GP to temples. And those templs are invariable to good- or neutral-aligned deities, which disgusts my evil character.
GrimDork wrote: going flat out evil madman just gets you into trouble.
Good. BG takes things a bit too far as going the evil route boxes you into a corner, although in BGs defence there really isn't much for an evil character to do other than pointlessly murder people so Bioware obviously didn't want people to go that route.
There should always be logical consequences for the PCs actions in any good RPG, be it P&P or a computer game.
I'm trying to think of how many occasions you actually get to take the evil route and see gain in that way... I don't remember a lot, but those in the middle of the game I probably didn't try as much as those at the beginning.
The fact of the matter is that you've got to stop Sarevok's plans and doing so is going to help the sword coast out, even if you do them in the nastiest meanest ways possible. Even if you're just taking down Sarevok to replace him and be even worse, you still do the sword coast a lot of good on the way. I guess there's that option to flood the mines without getting the workers out first isnt there? The end of the game is the same though, even if you kill Sarevok out of personal greed or rage, it's not like you get to take over and run things. The game is linear to the extent that the plot will always end the same, even if you're rougher around the edges, there is no "badguy win" that I know of. Actually, how many games do have a "badguy win" that you can think of? I'm drawing a blank though I know I've seen something somewhere...
I prefer to keep my charcther either neutral or lawful good, it makes for much more smooting sailing. Well most of the time, seeing how I always manage to blunder into some big ghastly monster whenever I explore a cave or even a cellar!
But anyhow the game set in the forgotten realms that actualy rewards you for being bad is Icewind Dale 1 & 2.
The sheer amount of rather seedy affairs you can end up in makes me smile each time I roll a evil Characther in those games
My neutral evil character has a huge interest in Sarevok not winning. The fact that others benefit is entirely incidental and forms no part of my character's motive. If the same people all had to die so that my character can be safe, then so be it. Furthermore, my character will try to undermine Sarevok whether or not she gets to replace him. That's totally irrelevant to her being evil or trying to stop him.
Evil characters can save the world. That doesn't make them less evil.
Alignment is less about what you do and more about why you do things. My complaint about BG is that it doesn't understand that. It punishes me for being evil because it assumes evil is always disruptive. "If you are evil, people will not like you." That doesn't seem true IRL or in fantasy stories.
We're veering a bit off topic here, of course, but yeah BG (and D&D) get muddled pretty fast when you bring up good/evil.
They've got it as both a concept along the lines of right/wrong and on a metaphysical level such that weird things occur. The way (especially the older systems) describe the alignment axis, you'd probably see a lot of lawyers as evil if they lie and twist the law to their favor. The same alignment as Devils from the nine hells. You can make a circle of protection: lawyers, debt collectors, guy in the office that doesn't throw in money for the christmas party. Gets a bit odd. Other systems/settings have evil as an almost physical trait, where your Lawyer/corrupt CEO/bully from above is just 'not nice' or morally bankrupt, but evil things have it in their makeup, like the aforementioned hell critters.
I like badguys that have an accidental positive effect, and calling them badguys is a bit off too. Selfish characters who "work out" can be pretty cool, and usually get to be edgier and potentially more interesting that obligate dogooders and paladins.
I mean, I just explained how that is not necessarily the case.
There isn't in BG as its not designed for the evil route. Obviously there are far more effective, and much more interesting, ways to RP an evil character than mindless slaughter.
GrimDork wrote: I like badguys that have an accidental positive effect, and calling them badguys is a bit off too.
I don't think so. For example, let's say the US gets taken over by a crazy dictator who enslaves us, limits how much we eat, and makes us do nothing but hard physical labor all day. Incidentally, the rate of heart disease will go way down. But the dictator is still obviously a bad guy.
Palindrome wrote: There isn't in BG as its not designed for the evil route.
I'm not totally sure what "there isn't" refers to but as to BG not being designed for the evil characters that is obviously false. There are evil characters. There are evil choices. The problem is not that the game was not designed for evil play. The problem is that the designer's concept of evil play is extremely limited and on top of that they seemed to have decided that evil play should be punished while good play should be rewarded.
Manchu wrote: I'm not totally sure what "there isn't" refers to but as to BG not being designed for the evil characters that is obviously false.
Obviously there are evil NPCs and there is a functional alignment system but the quests are designed primarily to be completed by a good character given the basic evil options (kill x, steal y etc). The evil quest choices usually give a lower payout in terms of exp as well. I think the primary reason for this was development time/resources rather than an ideal of how the game should be played although that did play a part given the merchant prices etc.
BG2 at least has more scope for an evil playthrough.
I totally agree that the BG:EE design sucks as far as evil characters/parties go.
I suspected that BG2 would be better on this score (you develop, you learn) but since there is character-carryover it actually bummed me out even more because that means if I want to play the games as one big story I will have to suffer through the gakky design in BG:EE.
My solution so far was to delete my NE character and make a LG character.
Ooh, get a paladin, those are just stacked. Sure, you have to be 'Lawful Stupid', but you get a lot of perks Or a monk, those are pants in BG, but get ridiculous in bg2+
I think the only carry over from the first game are *potentially* a couple of items (only very specific items, like maybe 3 or so) and the benefit of any of the stat-increasing Tomes you find. Well, any permanent changes to your character (familiar dies lose a point of con, etc) including the high/low rep based Bhaal special powers... although your Rep should reset to 10. Characters will be alive even if you killed them, and while you'll have dialog options to point out the fact, they'll still be there. I don't think the Neera romance carries over either, so it's really just your stats. As a mage, you can also learn a lot more spells in bg1 than you'd start with as a fresh bg2 character.
Entirely legitimate way to go about it. I like to run through from the beginning, but only if the class is enjoyable at low level. Wouldn't, for instance, play a rogue for the entire first game just to dual it to a mage in the second game... if I thought I wouldn't have fun playing the first game as a rogue.
I was getting onto a tangent that I like to play the first game first, but only if the character concept would be fun in the first game. Like ranger-cleric I'd probably just start bg2, though stalker into cleric I may play the first game.
Loadout is amazing- when the matchmaking is working.
I'm working on building a Salvo Hexabarrel Lightning rocket launcher with either Flak or scatter, and possibly the super bouncy mod. Might go with the Mortar or Arcing shot as well. For CHAOS! SHEER CHAOS!
Also, healing shotgun is more fun than it should be.
Discovered the Dungeon Keeper App on my iPad. Can't say that it's bad, but I need to find my DK2 version, waiting hours for my imps to mine their way through the map is irritating. But at least I can slap them without them dying.

Dungeon Keeper, the not pay-to-win but simply pay-to-play pointless time and money sink? You should feel bad for supporting this non-game.

NerdCubed is my favourite YouTuber so I might be a little biased, but I agree with pretty much everything he says in that video.
It's utterly appalling what they've done to Dungeon Keeper, and what is happening to a lot of F2P games - especially mobile ones. The player is being held to ransom. "Pay us money or be prepared to spend the rest of your life trying to do half of what you envisaged". Some games that play in real-time are fair enough, but when you have to choose between waiting for months just to expand a little bit, or shelling out tens - if not hundreds - of pounds just to speed it up a little...
It looks kind of like Oreg.. Viking Trail, or something, but another poster early on said there wasn't as much of that as it appeared from the trailer. I think it's kind of TRPG or RPGT or however you say it, something along the lines of final fantasy tactics or ogre battles or front mission or the like, and with some caravan management between fights or something.
I may pop on for a bit and try it again. This'll be the third or fourth invite. I really got a good feeling from in the first time, second time made me retch, skipped the third. Not sure what changed inbetween those two times other than me playing skyrim after the first. I thought the archery was pretty lame/alien to how it works in other ES games, maybe magic or melee is better. And it could have changed, willing to give it a chance.
Same as Red Viper, 'Hearthstone' has taken over my life...I have not been this addicted for years. Since 'Football Manager '12' I think. And I put over 200 hours into that!
Banateanţepeş wrote: Got myself Diablo 3 last week and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm almost through with a demonhunter character on normal difficulty.
I played witch doctor first and then daemon hunter. I got all the way to inferno difficulty with the witch doctor but then it got stale and boring because in act 2 you had to farm equipment which sucked (because the market was full of it and it was all garbage and you couldn't get sh*t worth of money from it in the early acts of inferno), farm gold (which also sucked) or farm some treasure goblins with people (you make a group where you each search for a treasure goblin in a different game and when you find one don't attack it and you let everybody else know so you all can get to the same game and kill the treasure goblin and get that loot together). Anyway no matter what route you chose it was about farming something which ultimately grinded the game to a halt and made it suck. Then again part of this is because the first few versions of diablo 3 and inferno itself were stupid ridiculous.
Anyway I'm not sure how diablo 3 is now but back then you had already capped at level 60 so at best you were getting low end level 60 gear which was low value in the marketplace. Even though it often sucked legendaries were super rare but always got a good price. Maybe people just broke them down for spare parts so they could get the rare ingredients. I wouldn't know as I never got that far.
So yeah the game is fun but on your 4th replay of the whole game when you even just get to inferno for that you have to constantly farm act 1 for gear. In act 2 the champions were too hard to really kill and most of the gear came from them and you had to kill them or mini-bosses/bosses in order to anything worth while and champions or elite to get 'stacks' (for every group of champions you killed you got extra luck and magic find and that was called 'stacks').
That's just how it was. It might be different now but I got tired of farming gear from the first act and whole parties of people just got owned by elites in the early versions of the game. My suggestion if normal marketplace is even still open is that you get the absolute most DPS base weapon you can find. The other stat-boosting stuff on your gear is just gravy which isn't as big a deal later on if you can do more damage with your base weapon. You'll notice it makes the most difference. Oh and back then tank characters kind of became jokes in the early versions of diablo 3 inferno difficulty.
I'm not even sure if marketplace is still open but act 2 of inferno was where the game stopped being fun and turned into a farming experience of act 1 for gear. Me and an extreme gaming friend just gave up on diablo 3 and he went back to WoW. Marketplace for normal trades might not even exist anymore but I'm not sure.
----------------
So dude I hope you have your fun I really do. I might play through more as demon hunter myself as I only beat normal and still have the other difficulties to do. That said I don't think i'll go through the grind again. I'd rather just play 'xcom: enemy within' some more where I can beat it on the highest difficulty (impossible difficulty) without the need for farming gear for my troops and with save points in case I lose hard.
^ supposedly when the expansion comes out the loot is getting changed to be more useful, and the auction houses are being cllossed forever. Loot 2.0 or something.. whatever they implemented for the console release.

Dont get your hopes up for anything Blizzard dose with the Diablo franchise, the game sucked ass when it came out last year, and it still sucks ass. They ruined a very, very good series with this abomination of a game instead.
GrimDork wrote: I think there was way too much nostalgia and good will for d2 for any follow up to be especially well received. I had fun enough for a time.
Nostalgia, no, but good will very much so, because Diablo 2 was a very good game. Always Online and the Real-Money Auction House combined with a lore-breaking story and poor balance/design decisions killed Diablo 3. Aparently the expansion will fix many of these things, but I feel it's too little, too late.
And as long as the game is Always Online (something not required for the console version, so it's not as if it needs it), I will never buy it.
My partner bought me an XBox One for christmas... What a woman.
Currently playing Dead Rising 3 and Battlefield 4. Fun enough, but I'm already salivating at the new Alien game.
Still have the following games to finish on the 360;
- Dead Space 3
- Red Dead Redemption
- Bioshock: Infinite
- a third play through of Mass Effect 3 with all DLC.

Would hate to be a downer but it's pretty much universally agreed that just about anything having to do with the 'aliens' franchise after the 3rd movie has sucked esp. when predators aren't also involved in which case the predators pull the weight of the sucktitude of everything else (it would seem my spell check is telling me 'sucktitude' isn't a real word ;P).
@HBMC: I honestly don't look very highly upon blizzard anymore. I was never really super fond of them but they were good. I still feel like I'm happier than when they only focused on warcraft though. Warcraft as a series has never really interested me. Diablo 3's story seemed ok but other than playing the 2nd I wasn't really knowledgeable of the lore they created for it. I even found the follower Lyndon to be the best of the 3 followers and wasn't sure if I wanted to stuff a sock in his mouth or laugh at some of what he said.
Demon hunters as a new class seem pretty cool but they just look like a ranged version of assassins or just seem like rogues pretty much. It's sad that all the classes they added seem like the same stuff as they had in diablo 2 and they even kept the barbarian (dunno why they did that). I guess they didn't really have any new exciting ideas for classes. Perhaps that's just how fantasy is. Nothing really new has been done in some time as far as classes go.
As far as starcraft goes I honestly feel mixed about the series. I couldn't be any more disappointed with the 'killing mengsk' end cinematic though. There was like a pre-alpha version on youtube at one point and the dialog was infinitely better. The changed dialog makes mengsk seem more like a cartoony villain and then they give raynor and Kerrigan a stupid romance scene. I'm so tired of that romance. I just wish jim moved on at some point. Any relationship in the real world works that way. Something tells me a woman turning into some evil monster (not considering periods) would be the letting go point in the relationship esp. since the best outcome over a ton of work still ends pretty poorly. I dunno watching him get led on by her in brood war was just disgusting. People leave people over less than being manipulated by an evil murderous b*tch that was zergified. Funny thing is I don't even think they really showed much of a relationship other than a small implication that there may have been some feelings between the two. Which makes him caring so much for her seem much weirder.
I'm switching off between a couple different games, but most of my time is split between KOTOR and Reaper: Tale of a Pale Swordsman. The latter was only $5 on Steam, and it's been plenty of fun so far.

Thankfully this is going for Alien instead. Deliberately going away from the "Vietnam in space" thing that everyone else has done.
Back on the X-COM train for me. Still haven't got around to getting enemy within but its getting more tempting. And as always messing around in starcraft with friends playing 3v3's or monobattles
Viking-esque turned based RTSRPG (hero based combat). Pretty amazing artwork, story and gameplay. Difficult, but very fun.

Yeah well people thought the aliens vs predator game would be good but it wasn't. Then aliens: colonial marines was supposed to be "true" to the series and that got even worse fan reaction. Now there's this. It's just time to let that franchise die already. The aliens franchise had a good run. Best not to dig the hole any deeper.
@frankenberry: You're playing on impossible ironman? I have trouble just playing impossible though I've beaten classic ironman plenty. You have my sympathies. This is like battle-toads level rage right there if not worse.
@FirePainter: Enemy Within is amazing as an expansion. It's everything slingshot was not and people wished slingshot was. After slingshot I didn't expect enemy within to be so good but I was impressed. We still need some new maps for larger downed alien spacecraft. I just wish that 'exalt' could've had more screen time but maybe it's fair that they didn't considering they're not the main focus of the game. I really would like to see an Exalt playable campaign at some point even if that's unlikely (give them more insane and morally wrong gene mods than xcom). Other factions would be cool as well. Xcom is was for a time my game to play. It's very addictive and I threw hundreds upon hundreds of hours into it (something like 700-800 hours and most of them within the first month or two I had it in which is probably unhealthy).
Xcom: I think I only played through it once, but part of that is my waning stamina/enthusiasm for multiple playthroughs of... any game. I did really like it though
I'd probably be moved on to something else than BG1/2/ToB but I've actually been painting. I'll take it.

I should paint. That's always good to know somebody is. It feels more constructive than gaming. Making something look nice take effort.
I like churning out lots of infantry when I'm in the mood, so I'm not sure it always looks nice. I do have some Infinity minis on hand for when I want to take my time though I went through a long period of not-painting, but somewhere along the line I found the desire again. Dipping helps, especially on mass fantasy/scifi projects. Even when I spend more time on models, a good dip in the tudor usually makes them look better
But now is painting break. Back to my ex-multiplayer 6-player generated character runthrough of bg1. I've got chronic alt-itis, running 6 ideas at a time helps a little bit :p
Well if everyone else is doing anohther Xcom playthrough...
Actually, I want to try a playthough with Training Roulette. Read a bit about it and it seems interesting.
Kickass Carlos! Let me know how it works out, seems like it would be stressful with the sheer brutality of the RNG and how older D&D rule sets were fairly unkind to lower level PCs Of course, each character being intelligently controlled helps, but I bet it'll be rough as hell getting out useful items in mid-combat! Let us know how it works, I'm too pressed for time and chickenscat to try
Personally I thought this sounded like an awesome game. It got a really low score though and apparently one of my friends doesn't like it. Gotta admit it sounds hilarious though. Dunno how long that lasts.
It's been out since 2011 so maybe that's a sign it sucks if I'm only just now aware of its existence.
@flamingkillamajig: It's a test of my sanity actually. I'm watching a youtuber named Zemalf play through I/I and he's almost 4 months in with no countries lost, only one casualty (a rookie during a mission he tried to capture an alien), basically he's kicking total ass.
It reignited my love for the game and I figured if he could do it, I could.
I'm playing xcom on classic mode and it's hard, I have no idea how anyone can play impossible.
Also can someone explain to me how to use a squad sight sniper, all my snipers are snapshot but i have heard squad sight is far superior. What squad makeup do you guys use, atm I am using 1 support ,2 heavies and 3 snipers ( I love the plasma sniper rifle).
Do you guys research lasers or go straight to plasma?
Do you guys use one squaddie in a team or more? I have so many squaddies atm but am finding it hard to fit them into my teams.
How useful are psykers?
WHat do you use in your backpack slots? I take mostly scope for snipers and heavies - my guys are running round in titan armour though.
Is it worth stunning the higher end aliens? I'm kinda scared of getting closer to the uber mutons.
Like how squad sight works mechanically? Or what you do to use it? Squadsight sniper can shoot anything on the board pending two qualifications: 1.) he has LoS to it, 2.) it's within the sight range of the sniper or one of his allies.
So, get him up high, buildings are great because they usually have partial cover walls on top, but a bus or truck will do if he's backfield away from hostiles. When your team moves up he'll get an increased range of effect as long as he's got a straight line to what they can see. So get a good position once, and he can shoot all game as you encounter more enemies. Doesn't always work pending maps. Works great with archangel flight suit as you can generate your own elevation (with a modest defense bonus for being in the air, I think). Also is great on overwatch if no active targets since moving your guys up within his LoS means drawing enemies into his deadly overwatch. Add that to In The Zone, and you can clear out maps inbetween reloads.
As for the rest, I only played through once or twice on normal, found something else to do before I got around to classic. Bringing squaddies along helps you get a wider pool of somewhat experienced soldiers in case your primary team suffers permanent casualties. I think some people only play with the middle range of levels for the most part? On normal I just put together a dream team and my one death got replaced over a few missions.
I was heavily into stunning enemies for all of the extra weapons they start dropping mid-late game, and speeding along research etc, but I could see that being a bit riskier of a prospect in classic and beyond.

Squadsight snipers are rather easy to use. I've actually never done a snap shot sniper. With Squadsight you can often just park your dude up on some high area in the back and let your guys spot for them. If things look super hairy you might want to have one of your guys spot with their first move and then fall back out of enemy sight while the rest move back and go into overwatch or pop smoke on some guys. Normally smoke grenades are useful unless you're facing enemies with grenades (heavy floaters, muton elites, sectoid commanders, mutons and some of the EXALT forces). Peronally I think EXALT are huge chumps once you get used to them. Normally I kill them all before their turn or I get really close.
I don't think you can research plasma without doing lasers first. Weapons and armor research is pretty important. Usually I'm oddly enough going for the Europe starting position to get discounts on labs and workshops. You need a decent amount of both engineers and scientists/labs. The reason is you want your research developing fast but you also want to have enough engineers to make some of these weapons (there's a minimum engineer amount for a lot of items).
Maybe it's just me but I find a lot of the augmentations to be helpful but not as needed as better weapons, armor and most importantly keeping your 'A' team alive throughout the beginning so that you can get squad size upgrades and similar which really, really helps.
Early on the best suggestions I have is to never engage more than 2-3 enemies at a time. If you find 2-3 patrols and you have to face a gak ton at once your squad is probably dead but if you use items correctly and fall back and go on overwatch you might be ok.
Explosives were super important in 'enemy unknown' (because destroying enemy cover and then having a higher hit% was more important) but in 'enemy within' I find other items to be much more useful. Flashbang grenades are infinitely useful against EXALT like on their snipers and if your enemy has some elites which are non-mechanical and not a psychic elite it helps a ton. Other good items include combat stims.
The augmentations that are most helpful are useful at different times. In the early part of the game getting the 2 hp regeneration at the end of your turn power is infinitely helpful on your elites (also it speeds up recovery time which is super important). Later on getting the augmentation that always forces your elites to bleed out rather than sometimes die when HP goes to zero is also helpful (think it's the first time per mission). Another useful power is the chameleon skin thing you can have. Normally I use a support which isn't visible to an enemy and then I dash the guy behind full cover to keep him/her cloaked. When they discover an enemy they stay camouflaged unless that character moves or shoots so you can basically be a hidden fly on a wall and provide a perfect sight range for snipers without being seen. Not to mention you can still use items that don't do damage so the support against the wall can still throw flashbangs and smoke grenades to help you out when you need it.
Full cover is really helpful but I find in impossible it's more important to know both 'lines of sight' and to increase the distance between you and your enemy as well as throw flashbangs, grenades and even smoke grenades.
Psychics are ok. I don't think they're super great but they're helpful. You always get to hit an enemy regardless of distance or cover though you have to test against the enemy's will often times. Some of the augmentations are much better in my opinion. Too bad psychics only have 5 psychic powers and can only take 3 with the volunteer being the only one with a super psychic blast. I'd at least like a power similar to the ethereals where you could just blast the sh*t out of an enemy with a psychic blast.
The items I put in my backpack often depend on the mission. I usually give my supports or newbies arc throwers and I usually only use arc throwers when I face small alien ships though sometimes I'm a bit ballsy. In most missions I give supports the medkits because they are needed though usually i don't do that unless they've been promoted enough to carry 3 medkits at once with one item slot. I give my heavies grenades sometimes. I often later give my assaults combat stims because they need it. Snipers obviously need to have scopes. If I face EXALT I use more flashbangs. If you face an abduction mission chances are you'll often face more melee enemies so you might want to get appropriate gear for that (chitin armor or combat stims).
It's fairly worth it to stun some higher end aliens though in enemy within there aren't as many to stun when you face mechtoids (which can't be stunned) or other robotic heavy enemies. Mutons are incredibly worthwhile to stun as plasma weaponry gets pretty expensive (laser weaponry is pretty affordable though). Also you never know if a country will suddenly want something like plasma rifles or heavy plasmas and they sell for a sh*t ton of money too (over 1,000 to 3,000 something credits) and that will keep your base well supplied for a while so even a stockpile of some weapons might be a good idea.
I might be wrong with this but I think to get plasma weapons you need to research the plasma power generators first and then elerium. After that I think you need to capture a muton to get access to plasma weaponry. Either that or you just had to capture the muton for plasma weaponry (I can't remember too well as it's been a while since I last played). Just like with laser weapons in order to get access to the other types of specialty plasma weapons you'll need to research the plasma rifles in order to get the plasma snipers, alloy cannon and heavy plasma. You absolutely have to catch a wielder of a plasma rifle to get these weapons though a light plasma rifle might be possible too. You also have to capture a light plasma rifle carrier to get access to research those weapons and a plasma pistol carrier for plasma pistol research. Either way you'll at least need to capture aliens that wield plasma rifles or you won't be able to access most plasma weapons which would make the game stupid hard.
--------------
Anyway if I could make a playthrough of myself doing an impossible run I'd show you guys. It's a pretty fun game. I can't do impossible ironman yet but I have managed to do a run recently with only a few needed game reloads. Getting your squad to have psychic immunity for the last mission on the 'temple ship' makes the fight with the ethereals and uber ethereal stupid easy.

Playing with the misses who loves games but isn't great at them so it's going on easy.
Will report back though.mif it works well I'll invite you to a game some day in the future. When time is more avalable.
I hear that on the time front. Glad the lady plays games with you, always cool.
Just saw this rather sexy sale over at GoG: http://www.gog.com/promo/hasbro_weekend_promo_140214 something like 80% off most of the older D&D games. Stacking discount, so getting 8 is almost as much as getting 9 or 10, but it's only a bit over 20something for the lot. Definitely going to nab a set for myself, I can't find my NWN2, and I missed out on IWD1 and planescape:torment. Not sure about a couple of the other titles, never heard of them, but there's a *lot* of hours of gameplay in there that I haven't even touched.

Thats a awesome package, although Demon Stone brings back mixed memories. But that is the only game that is not very good at all, heck Icewind Dale 1 complet package is worth 20 something. That game alone provides heaps of good times, same goes for Baldurs Gate 2
Yeah, I never got IWD1 so I'm looking forward to playing that. And I always loved IWD2. And I hear there's a BG1 mod for NWN2, so maybe that too at some point

The only D&D game I didnt have was NWN2. So I picked that up.
I only played partway through the main campaign, seemed like it may have been a little more solid than NWN1, and it got back to having a party. Maybe only a 4 man or something, but still.
Almost too many races, and the prestige classes were always 'meh' to me, but i'll have to give it another playthrough myself.

Ya you got to get some squadsight guys. A squadsight sniper with Archangel armour is almost too good.
Apparently 'the witcher' series is on steam sale for like 80% off (which is 4 USD for the 2nd game). Personally I find the main character to be a man-wh*re. However I won't lie I am a perv and like seeing the boobies from time to time. I just feel like it's kind of sad when it's a game. I felt like it cut from the story. Which in the first gives you choices A, B and C of f*cking people over (figuratively) and pretty hard too. Women in the first game also give it up after a few exchanges of dialog (which you f*ck more literally just as often) and all this is to a guy that looks like a corpse with cat eyes. Dunno how he can manage to get all that tail looking like he does.
Started the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim yesterday. Something really weird going on in that town, and that monolith near the cost is freaky.
Also made my first visit to Apocrypha before I went to bed last night. That was different. And terrifying. There are apparently another 4 quests in Apocrypha. I hope that I actually get the reward for them, unlike the first one. Didn't get squat.
Dragonborn is great. When I arrived in Solstheim for the first time...
Spoiler:
...it was late evening, so one of the first things I did was book a room at the inn for the night. I woke up in the middle of nowhere building... something.
That game is sex. It will f*ck you IN THE BRAIN!!!
The story is really awesome. It's all around one of the best games I've played and has some of the best story I've seen in any video game. That game is art in more ways than one.

That sounds vaguely familiar...
For the EU it was called Digimon World 2003, because we never got Digimon World 2.
Looked at some screens, pretty sure I only played the first one.
I tried the first one again, my Gabumon took a digidump in the middle of nowhere without warning, died, turned into Bakemon for <insert reason here>, and I remembered why I preferred DW 2003.
Okay, I am now playing Far cry 3 (on warrior difficulty, playing stealthy with my trusty bow) I'm also doing Fable 2 as some kind of corrupt estate agent (MAX TAX) and I started playing Fallout 3 for the first time but got a bit stressed about how I was essentially scavenging for tin cans half the time and getting murdered by mole rats. The same can be said for my current skyrim profile, damn you Bethesda!!
playing Mass effect though again is on my list too. Need to pick up 1 and 2 for the ps3 though, and the DLC. The complete pack not coming with all the DLC was pants on head slowed.
Im playing though Xcom Enemy within atm along with baldurs gate EE and Thief Dark project.
Wanted to play Batman: Arkham Origins, but after installing it, Steam tells me I need a 16GB update. SERIOUSLY? I need to update a game I just installed from disk by approximately the same amount of data as was on the disk, how dumb does Steam think I am? And with a connection that regualry dips to 54K/sec, I've kind of given up on playing that this year and gone back to DOW:Soulstorm.
Currently kicking the backsides of the "Sisters of absolutely no mercy" with my Tau battleforce to complete the domination of my second planet. Love the Greater Knarloc, and the Necron Monolith, but the IG Baneblade seems worse than either of those.
Started Skyrim again. I've never been ambushed this much before. First before entering Whiterun a Brotherhood assasin tried killing me. Then I entered Whiterun and a Master Vampire and his thralls tried killing me. Then a minute later some random Warlock Challanger attacked me. (He got mauled by 10 guards.) Then I left Whiterun and the Thalmor randomly came after me. Then I met some fake Imperial Soldiers who tried to hassle money off of me and eventually tried killing me to. This all happened in about 30 minutes.
I remember on Skyrim once; travelling between Winterhold and Dawnstar. Before I'd even got out of visual range of Winterhold I was attacked by a Sabrecat that killed my horse.
By the time I'd got half-way to Dawnstar I'd been attacked by six Sabrecats separately. I hate Sabrecats.
Also got attacked by 3 wolves, a spriggan and a goat.
Nothing is worse that the mountain lions from Red Dead Redemption. I don't know how many time my horse (or myself) have been killed by those damned ninja mount-
I remember once in Skyrim- I'm just wandering along, minding my own business.
3 Spriggan-controlled BEARS pop up out of nowhere and start mauling me. Then a Giant shows up, pissed off that the bears had hurt his mammoths. Then a frikkin' DRAGON decides he wants a piece of the Dovahkiin.

Wait, this is a thing? I've never encountered that before, and I've put 250+ hours into my Skyrim campaign
Well it is. I noticed because I never seen an Orc and Dark Elves as Imperial soldiers. Eventually I stumbled over the real soldiers dead bodies. I restarded the game as a mage and suddenly I encounter completely different things I never seen before. I never had the Thalmor come after me or had a Mage challenger.
I think the Thalmor just dislike human mages, for some reason. I know I've never gotten so pissed at the elves as when I trued running a pure mage Imperial.
Also, how does the spellcheck not know what a Mage is- or the word "spellcheck" for that matter?
I thought the headless horseman ghost horse was kind of spooky, but you can go to a particular place to find that. I've been held up by a single thief, had the mage challenger thing (ahh yeah, just had to add 'mage' to dictionary lol) happen, lots of assassins/thugs contracted after me for my petty theft.. The three heavily armored guys are my least favorite for certain characters, sometimes you just aren't ready for those.. Also.. surprise bears is no fun
Trying to decide between icewind dale/2, planescape torment, and the nwn2 mod that duplicates bg1. Playing a d3 barbarian of low levels when I can't concentrate enough on other things, and cause mighty thews.
Having a fair bit of fun with Loadout. Swapped 1 part on the basic gun and I love my new weapon When you can jump into a game and start losing then pull the team back to victory with 35 kills and under 10 deaths you know you have a good gun. Saying that it was collector so playing the objective helped more. The bad thing about loadout?? some of the store stuff is a bit out of whack with the prices, roughly £10 for a taunt is not good pricing.
When not killing on Loadout I can be found playing a bit of Euro Truck Sim 2, I use it to listen to music at the same time.
I ended up getting skyrim for my ps3 ans am about to start that. Even though I downloaded it from steam on my pc. I just prefer playing on the console to being hunched over a computer.
I have only recently returned to gaming and trying to make a list of all the games ever worth playing on ps3 before I sell it off and open up my ps4. So far I have finished mass effect 1 & 2, farcry 3 and last of us. Currently playing skyrim. Any other games that I must play, uncharted? Fallout? Red dead redemption? Cheers guys.
Currently playing Don't Starve on PS4 for lack of any other games for the console (already beat Killzone and was quite disappointed). It's fun, but not sure what the overall point is. I'm also just about done with XCOM: Enemy Within for PC, and it was an excellent expansion to an already excellent game. I wish that the in-game narration could be done by randomly selected soldiers instead of the one omniscient commander, but that's just me. And lastly I'm chugging along on Mechwarrior Online and kicking a lot of ass with way too many autocannons. It's really a good game, but the devs could be doing a better job with it.
Presently installing Icewind Dale 2, couldn't stop myself. Already wishing it was an enhanced edition I could have gotten from steam instead of GoG... I can already detect the unmistakable odor of... issues... Oh well. It'll be nice to romp around in third edition rules for a change.
So, just finished two games of War thunder, first one was Britain on lone island. Went after a wellington in my heavy beaufighter X. Guy in a spitfire overshot the wellington, then rammed me on purpose.
He then machine gunned me in the back.
We lost the match because of that action (lost the last plane). Second match was better. Britain again, and won by the skin of our teeth in heavy fog
^That's how I felt about diablo3. Its new, different, and maybe it doesn't hold up to D2... but it can still be fun given half a chance. Of course, your xbox version already has the less-lame loot system, so that helps.
Think I'm going to give in to my chronic alt-itis and start up IWD2, after I gave in and downloaded it from GoG's downloader, it installed properly and seems to play (for now). Time to come up with a themed (potentially to a fault) party and get stuck in.
yeah Loot 2.0 is clearly the way to go .. if only they'd change it up on PC ... cuz on my Xbox version at Paragon 50 i hit a legendary atleast every 30
minutes on average ... Still hunting Zunnimassa tho

...Why? Even if it get's offline mode it's still a fundamentally flawed game. The simulation part of the game is non-existent. Don't waste time and money on this piece of crap.
Yeah, I was going to get Sim City now that the utterly needless online requirement was removed, but the game is functionally broken. Sims don't live in houses and go to jobs like they said they would. Sims just go to the nearest job and then the nearest house. And the traffic model is insane.
They took the game people liked, and really EA'd it.
I downloaded Takedown: Red Sabre yesterday and I might boot it up later to see what it's like. I'm hoping that it is like the older Rainbow Six games, and nothing like the reviews online
Playing some Armoured Core For Answer again (finishing some more Hard Mode missions, finally beat Silent Avalanche + Wis & Yei on Hard and S-ranked it), a bit of Strider and Dota 2...

That bad eh?
I wanted to like it. I loved the older Tom Clancy games, in fact I owned them all across multiple platforms. The game just felt so clunky and ponderous, and the control scheme was far from intuitive. The demo itself was hugely restrictive, the only playable level was the Kill House level, and there was nothing that gave me any indication of what the actual game play would be like. The little bit of the level I did play left me with a sour taste in my mouth, and and less than thrilled with the prospect of multiplayer. Any game that prevents me from inverting the Y axis on my controller is also an automatic no from me.
Next Car Game. Although there's not much to it at the moment it does boast some mind blowing physics, decent graphics, good race AI and a very sophisticated handling model. The handling is maybe a little too realistic in the current build but as un-fun as understeer is, it is necessary for realism. I have read that maybe the 360 controller support is not quite there yet so that might be worth me adding as that's how i played.

Oh I see well then I will not be buying that then, and yes. The Tom Clancy games have always had a soft spot in my game hearth, I played the Rainbow six games to death over the years. And yes, that sort of things really kills a game for me too
I did like that the weapons and accessories were all available from the start. For Kill House I was using an AUG A3 with holo sight and suppressor to double tap targets. Outside of that though I couldn't see many redeeming features, or anything that progressed the game play. It really felt like a poor man's Rainbow Six
Stuff I like:
-They make skills really relevant and allow for a lot of different playstyles. It really "feels" like playing D'n'D 3.5 in a lot of ways.
-It's free
-The control system is pretty intuitive to me and I find it quite fun.
-There are some amazing dungeons
-I like the instanced nature of the game, it takes away the biggest complaint I have about World of Warcraft. However it makes quitting mid instance difficult. On the flip side, it's easy to pick it up and play it for 30 minutes, do a quest or two, and put it down again.
Things I don't like:
- It crashes every time I try to start it. My friend and I refer to it as the "loadcrashload" jokingly, but really, I reckon they want to get that crap sorted out!
-As you go up in level, you may find the available free content drying up. We're just hitting level 6 and you can already see a drop off in the available content. I am not going to buy any content though because that there is a slippery slope!
-Sometimes the dungeons either don't show much thought, and are repetitive, or show quite a lot of malicious thought, and require long platforming sessions (The Pit, I'm looking at you!).
On the whole though, it's been enjoyable. In some ways I like it more than Skyrim, despite not being as pretty or immersive. I just like how the game "handles" a lot more.

Ah, LOTRO. I recall being absolutely charmed by that game, but being unable to stick with it. I don't know why.
Ah, LOTRO. I recall being absolutely charmed by that game, but being unable to stick with it. I don't know why.
I really like LOTRO, its probably my favourite 'traditional' MMO. My problem with it is that the later content just isn't very good IMO. The game up to its original lvl 50 content (Angmar basically) is really good and interesting. Moria is decent and after that it just goes down hill. I tend to play it periodically and I generally get bored round about lvl 60, the middle of Moria. One of the issues with it, like all established MMOs, is that due to the increased level cap and faster leveling you will inevitably outlevel the original zones too quickly. I've been thinking of giving it another go recently.
With F2P games I don't mind spending money on them but I am very concioius of how much I spend and what I am spending it on. Unlocking content and the like is fine given that I don't mind subscription fees. Pointless cosmetic items are another story.
Wonder if they changed something, it felt too much like an mmo to me. Everything was lacking in smooth, and don't get me started on using the bow... That was a couple of beta sessions ago though, it could have improved.
It's... interesting. I think they managed decently to mix the ES and MMO- though the combat lacks a lot of the weight you expect from current-genES games. I think it's the sound assets- you don't get enough "Oomph" from hits, and there aren't any effects at all when you 'strike' (clip through, that is) terrain and other objects. Every sound is too light, like taps, instead of proper slashes or thuds- though the magic sounds good, I think.
I think I know why they did that, though. It's not for optimization, since it's easy enough to put whatever sound file you want in to play at the right time- but it's because they're expecting large crowds, and huge-scale combats- and I guess they're worried that the layering of too many sounds happening at the same time would sound bad.
That makes sense. The music and sound effects matter much less to me for an MMO than they do a single player game. Sometimes I turn up the music for ambiance, but if I'm playing with other players there's usually ventrillo or something similar going on.
I just didn't jive with the gameplay at all the second time I tried it. I may have to update it and give the next iteration a go though.
Playing valkeria chronicles on the ps3 haven't touched the game in over a year so started from scratch. It's quite frankly one of th best games I have ever played.
M.A.V. (<- that's a link) is in it's last stretch on the Kickstarter! Just a day or two to go- pledge at the $30 level and you get a copy of the soundtrack if we reach $30,000 (already funded, just stretch goals now!)
Swing by and support us if you enjoyed ChromeHounds or are a fan of fully-customizable Mech combat. Also, tell your friends!
Playing and loving the hell out of Bravely Default. Its a good step by Square back to the older format while keeping it fresh with the new combat system. Being able to change difficulty and encounter rate on the fly is a great touch as well. They also had one hell of a composer on this as well, the music kicks ass. All around loving this game to death
Word of warning ahead of time if you plan to get the Digital version. It's bloody gigantic. ALBW was only 5,000 blocks. BD is... 26,000 So just make sure you have the room for it. I'm going to have to upgrade because of the thing!
Playing a lot of banished the past week, I love my management sims.
This one though has one key difference about it that is really making it a challenge. Every other game of this type usually involves two steps:
1. Increase population
2. Build infrastructure to handle new population.
Banished on the other hand works in the exact opposite way. If you don't have the housing and food supply ready for an increased population people are going to start dropping fast. I'll be starting my fourth settlement tonight after about 25% of my population died this morning.
^Oooh, I still need to finish the first one, and then look that up. Was pretty neat when I played it the first time around.
Gonna give diablo 3 another whirl. Not one to stay stuck in the past and lament that it isn't d2 (which is a totally viable position, it definitely is not d2), I'll see if the loot 2.0 and modified features are worth it. A couple of my long standing gamer buddies are playing it, and that is usually more a deciding factor in what ends up being fun than the content or execution of the game itself.
Now away! Much toads to be rained upon the demonkind, and little time to do it!
I've just been playing xcom: enemy unknown, wargame: air land battle and dawn of war 2: chaos rising. Lately it's been more of the first two.
Gotta say I don't remember xcom being this hard. It's almost like impossible difficulty became even harder than it was.
Wargame is interesting. I'm surprised just how powerful some of the soviet stuff is. Lots of brute force over America's shoot and get away airplanes and fire and forget systems. That's not to say America can't be potent as it has some crazy airplanes and apaches are pretty sweet. Some of the soviet helicopters are brutal at anti-ground though and they have some of the best tanks around if not the best. Nato seems to have better air overall but soviets have better transports. There are a lot more differences on each faction but lately I've been drawn towards the soviet union, the usa and the 2 german factions. Most of the other faction do it for me. They just lack some of the fun toys.
Due to a fairly lengthy update process i have been playing the single player of Battlefield 4 PC while i wait. It's odd how buggy the game is, say what you want about Call of Duty but their campaigns are always super tight. The campaign has it's moments though and is certainly a little better than 3's that, bar one mission, was god awful. The sound design even through fairly bog standard headphones is also magnificent, realy nailed virtual 7.1. Also i'm playing on controller and it works great, even on the 'test range' where aim assist is off.
The game looks amazing for the most part though (a couple sequences look supremely unfinished), only playing on the recommended settings for the moment but the game play is really smooth.
So I finished up Bayonetta the other night, and I thought I give my thoughts on it:
For the record, I am still kind of newb-ish at these kind of games, but I found it to be a relatively fun and challenging game without being too unfair overall (There are some parts that you really need a split-second reaction to dodge it, but I am not sure if this was intentionally designed or a glitch). The combat and gameplay is the big part as well, as it has a considerable depth to it for being a beat-em-up game, in which gives a good amount of incentive to go back and try to platinum the other levels. The music is a strange choice considering it is a beat-em-up, but with how the character and the setting of the game, I feel it fits relatively well.
Only major complaints I have is how the camera is done, as it moves slower than one would expect, which can screw you over in combat potentially. The others is the use of OTE's and the length of some of the cutscenes, which makes the tempo the game tries to set out of whack at times. However, I feel that these problems are only a slight annoyance at worst.
Overall score if I had to give one is about 8.15/10, which means (by my standards at least) it is a pretty good game that brings a lot to the genre and a damn well made game, but there are some flaws that I mention that bar it from getting a 8.5 or 9 out of 10.
Finished Dust, only 1 achievement missing. Lovely, lovely game, loved the characters and the world but the combat can get a bit repetitive. It's always the same combos, you never get new ones besides some powers. Still, there's no way I couldn't see the end of this lovely story.
Started Trine, it's tons of fun and the music is beautiful.
Edit: That last achievement was pissing me off it's now taken care of, Dust fully completed
In the past few weeks, I've kind of ... split up my gaming enthusiasm between several titles, jumping back and forth depending on mood and time availability.
If I feel like having to relax a bit after a hard day, I tend to do so in Banished, having jumped onto that bandwagon as well by now (and having succeeded in convincing a few co-workers to give it a try as well ).
By now, the intense pull of the game that I felt in the first days is dropping a bit, which is probably due to there being no more buildings to build. Still, I want to see how large I can make my town, continuing the slow expansion that helped my current village to fare so much better than my first two (I'm not counting the third ... goddamn tornadoes ).
Spoiler:
Kind of idyllic...
Then, of course there is the new Dragonfall DLC for Shadowrun Returns, which I've been addicted to last week. It has been a good ~20 hours of fun, and considering that 12 of them have been spent in two 6-hour mammoth sessions of gaming, it probably says a lot about how captivating that game and its plot can be. Excellent writing, and the characters are great. I can't wait to see what the developer comes up with for the next expansion. In the mean time, I guess I'll check out a few of the fan-made modules, because right now, Dragonfall got me hooked on Shadowrun again.
Spoiler:
HK227 SMG, Ares Predator, alphaware cybereyes, hotsim-rigged chipjack with smartgun i/o and encephalon enhancer, move-by-wire system with reflex booster, and a pair of cyberarms, one with a built-in autoinjector ... ready to take on the streets of Berlin 2054 AD!
And lastly, on a hunch I actually took a dive back into TOR as well to check out its new Galactic Starfighter update. Turns out there have been a few other neat additions during my absence as well, from new events to level-matching and role-independent "tactical flashpoints". Unfortunately, the latter feel a bit "grindy" (possibly a result of the matchmaker throwing together groups in a matter of seconds unless you are playing in the midst of night), but I suppose they are good for when you've already burned through the planetary storylines and would rather not see them again with your umpteenth character. Anyways, Starfighter itself seems to be a "either you love it or you hate it" affair, and even though it plays very twitchy, personally I've grown to like it. A welcome step forward from the boring "on-rails" shooter that the earlier space game was, these battles throw you into a PvP arena where daring pilots can test their mettle against other human (or alien) star warriors. Game modes are fairly standard; you either get a domination scenario where you have to capture and hold a bunch of satellites, or you're pitted against the enemy in a straight team deathmatch. The maps, fortunately, are somewhat more creative, and are littered with all sorts of dangerous objects, from asteroids to artificial facilities to capital ships. Needless to say, crashing into this can put a quick end to a dogfight, but if you've got someone on your 6 then this may be your chance to shake them loose. Currently, there are four different classes of ships (Bombers, Gunships, Strike Fighter, Scouts), each with 3 specific models, some of whom you have to unlock first. Notably, this mini-game also features a host of customisation options for your ship, from visual decoration to ship components such as different weapons, engines, or types of armour, and each of these may be further enhanced by a sort of skill-tree in which you can sink requisition points in to unlock either a bonus or some special trait. If you're curious, give this build calculator a try!

I am enjoying stick of truth so far. I think it would be more enjoyable if I was a serious southpark fan rather than someone who has watched a episodes here and there but not watched a significant number.
@Lynata: You've been back and forth but mostly gone. Nice to see you back though.
Anyway I've been playing more 'xcom: enemy within'. Maybe I'm going crazy but I think I finally have another stable game. I lost 5 countries but for the current month my research has been really fast, my weapons are pretty good, I have more than 6 fairly experienced soldiers, interrogations and other stuff from captured aliens is also helping. Currently I only stopped because I can't decide which country I want to help against their abductions. I could either go for a country with 4 engineers as a reward which might help save me time if I build a big satellite relay instead of trying to go for multiple workshops, I could go for scientists which probably won't help a lot or I could go for an experienced soldier which may or may not be helpful if I lose a guy or one is in med-bay though that country wouldn't be at full panic and in danger of leaving if I didn't choose that mission (a rare thing in impossible difficulty). So I think i'll do the engineers mission if only so I can have enough engineers to make a super satellite relay. The funds for it may not happen but here's to hoping it does.
Been playing Battlefield 4 multiplayer on PC, with a controller . After several hours of getting my Butt handed to me i am slowly getting used to life without aim assist.
Some of the maps in BF4 really are fantastic, some of the best i've played. However when the opposition dominates in conquest i find myself dying ALOT trying to cross open ground. The insane skill of some players in attack helicopters is especially annoying. Apart from that SAWs seem WAY over powered, people run around toting LMGs like they're uzis and still riddle me. In BF3 and BC2 there was some actual balance, a SAW always lost in CQB, the movement modifier just destroyed the accuracy.

Ah.. so you think it's definitely worth playing then?
The name is pretty amusing, sounds like one of the terrible translations from an 80's/90's 16-bit game "He is all too strong.. so we must bravely default!" (meaning run away).
Will just finish the 3DS Fire Emblem first I think then before I pick this up, funny you should mention music, the orchestral score in that game is amazing as well. Beautiful actually, that machine has a great little sound processor in it.
Trying out the new loot and other changes to D3. Fun so far.
Also decided it was high time I catch up on the pokemon games so I'm working my way through Yellow right now. It's pretty entertaining, I had forgotten how unforgiving some of the older games can be. Seems like these days if you aren't curb stomping multiple opponents then you're doing it wrong, but here an even match can actually be kinda close. Fun.
I just wish Metapod would hurry up and evolve already... the thing is just unreasonably phallic... and it really doesn't help that it uses moves like 'Tackle' and 'String shot'.
Well, as I'm house/dog sitting for my buddy, I've been actually playing quite a bit of 360 (i don't own one, as I'm firmly a playstation guy)
But, I've been bouncing between unlocking as many guns/accessories for the Support class on BF4, getting as much money and cars as possible on Forza4, my own characters on Fable 3, and my own copy of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, on my ps3.
It's kind of funny, because before my buddy left, he commented on how I was ruining his CoD stats online, but at the same time, his BF4 stats were climbing up all the time. (Im much, MUCH better at bf4 than i am cod, but still honestly prefer MoH's online play)

Well worth the pick up. Im quite a good way into it now and I'm still not losing steam. Its very very good. The way they laid out the job system is simple, but complex enough im still finding small tricks that are amazing me. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone with a 3DS. It very much scratches an itch for Old FF style RPG's.
So I have been playing Thief Gold due to a recommendation of a friend of mine (and another friend gifting it to me for my birthday last year, which I kind of dropped since I was playing a lot of different games at time).
You know, for a stealth game that came out in 1998, it actually puts almost any stealth games in the modern era to shame and can actually learn from (Yes, I am looking at you Assassin's Creed) and still amazes me thus far of how it is delving me into its environment despite its aged graphics.
Just about to give Second Assault for BF4 a try.
I have to say they picked 3 of my favs from BF3, Caspian, Firestorm and the delicious Gulf of Omam.
I'll hashtag this #exicted
I'm not sure which Thief game it was.. maybe deadly shadows.. but I couldn't take it seriously past maybe 5 minutes in. They wanted me to shoot some kind of magic water arrows at torches to disable them so I could sneak around. Magic water arrows. To put out torches. It just seemed... I dunno more magicky than it should have been, and really ridiculous. If you want to make a game where you can shoot out lightbulbs, then make it a game with guns and light bulbs. Hell, if you were throwing a bag of sand or a slightly more durable water balloon... or even using magic to throw a globe of water at it... but magic water arrows just destroyed my suspension of disbelief for some reason.
I'm sure the games are good, but I literally could not continue at that point. Kind of like if they told me to use the B button to molest children, brain would not allow clicking.
Diablo3 seems a bit more fun, I'm not sure how Torment is different from Monster Power, but I like the changes to crafting, loot, and so on. It had been awhile since I'd played too so I'm sure some of this stuff has existed for awhile. Still ranking it as a decent switch brain off and hackNslash for a while game.
Pokemon Yellow is still reasonably entertaining 10-15 hours in. The pacing seems a little weird but I'm probably just letting one of my dudes win too many of the trainer fights and out level everything else. Grinding is kind of boring but now that I've found the fast forward button on my emulator It can at least go fast. Certainly an entertaining franchise and way more fun that the majority of proper cell phone app games (at least for me).
Taking a break from LotRO to play some good old Age of Empires III. Finished Space Marine and got started on Multiplayer. And found my favorite way to play League of Legends (Warwick Jungle!)
@Megabassist. stavi1492 is my origin name. Usually preceded by whoever Dome-shotted/blew me up. Although my personal skill may be lacking I like to think i'm a good team player and i am actually pretty good with ground vehicles.
I was also tempted by BF BC2 but unfortunately i just know the only players will be people who are ridiculously good. I had a great time with it on ps3, i will cherish those memories.

Cool beans, I'll add you!
And I had so many good times on Port Valdez. and Laguna Presa. Not to mention how funny/awesome the campaign was. ALMOST as funny as the first.
Dragon's Prophet is still fun. It's a pretty buggy mess of an MMO but playing pokemon with dragon's, that are also mounts, with mounted combat... yeah.
Judge Dredd - Dredd Vs Death from way back in 2003. The game was panned, but I think it holds up for what it is. Its not spectacular, but not horrible either. I'd enjoy if the licence was dealt with better, and hell if just a decent game was made from it (hmn, something like Deus Ex: Human Revolution ...sort of. ...but in a Mega City). But I suppose, based on the response to the latest movie, the setting doesn't hit it big for some reason. =/
Next up; Durham Red, ahem, the original Bloodrayne. GoG had a sale on.

So, I wrote that at the 24th of June 2013. 9 months later, I have the pleasure to say I have completed Ar Tonelico
It was an epic ride, with lots of time gaps between gaming sessions, but I did it, even though I hate the combat system when compared to ATII. In fact, I believe everything in II is better.
I can now start Ar Tonelico 3 for PS3, which I hopefully will once I'm back home again for the weekend!

I'm finding the UI to be a bit clunky.
For example, how do you know if your strategic / tactical missile launcher is loaded, and with how many weapons? I did not see any indicator.
Also, is there a limit as to how many they can hold?
Yes, but you have to click on them. There are two different icons, one for build ordinance, the other for fire. I forget which way is which, but if you click on the build button normally, it builds one missile. Click using the other button and it auto-builds until full. I think strategic is 5, tactical is either 10 or 20. Still doesn't make it that clear when one is available to fire, you have to keep your eye out for 'build finished' notifications.
As to me, I'm trying to go through Arkham Origins, and keep getting curb-stomped by Bane. Jeez, I can't get the timing right on that encounter for some reason. One or two stuns into the super-stun and he hits me and breaks the flow. I also don't seem to be quick enough to dodge his charges. Might have to try quickfire battarang then attempt the dodge before I go mad. [already bust the stand on one end of my keyboard due to furious key hammering in that fight.] :(

The first three Theif games are fantastic its such a shame that was the reason that put you off. The variety of arrows offer a great deal of tactical options in the game. Rope arrows stuck to any wooden surface allowing you to climb, moss arrows cover noisy surfaces allowing you to walk over them silently and so on. Theif has its own steampunk style with intresting supernatural elements and technology. I dont think its any more sill than countless other games.
If you enjoy stealth games I highly recommend you give it another try.

Its a fantastic game. Its old and clunky but the gameplay stands up even today.
I haven't played the new Thief yet but I am disappointed that they have seemingly made garrett much more generic and less intresting than he once was.
Also seems to be a lot less freedom in the new game especially with design choices like rope arrows only working on fixed points instead of all wood
Addicted to Diablo 3 with a Barbarian. So much fun, and I really enjoy the Monk and Demon Hunter too. If anyone wants to play I online with me, send an Xbox friend request. Same SN. Just let me know you want to play diablo. Barbarian is currently a 40, DH and monk are 20 and 27, wizard is 15, Witch Doctor doesn't exist yet.
@TtW barbarian is soooo fun, I wasted a good 2-3 hours last night leveling. Of course you would have to be one of those stinky console users though, nobody loves us PC people anymore. I really like my WD, he's very laid back compared to some of the classes but I just can't like the DH. He's almost 50 but you just have to run around and spam so many buttons with him.
@Carlos it could have been a bad week or something, I was just very much put off at first. I occasionally enjoy stealth games, but I have to punctuate them with mass carnage or run n' gun, I'm only so patient... it's a resource that is easy to deplete
Like how I about put down pokemon yellow while I was trying to get a Gyarados out of a Magikarp, that was obnoxious. I've lost my attention span for grinding unless the actual activity itself is amusing. So diablo3's ok, but MMOs are permanently out after so many years.

Yeah. Garrett is what also makes the game as well. Currently at the Thieve Guild mission, and I have to say his intro dialogue is quite hilarious.
I completed Bloodrayne. Meh. I played the second one. The first one was better. =P
The historical inaccuracies in the first one did my head in after a while, but I guess it was meant to be a silly action game. I kind of sat there thinking, "they may be big bad evil Nazis, but these guys have families", as I hacked them into little pieces. Again, silly action game. I prefer games where the mooks have a bit more character, which beyond a single conversation about a joke before the player kicks the door in and hacks everyone up, just wasn't a thing in either of those games (I'd say even less so in the second, where the enemies turned into completely subservient thralls).
Three games down now from the latest GoG sale. Next up Gemini Rue, which damn well better have a great story (well it is sold as a story driven game). Failing that I'm digging out Arcanum for a playthrough.
I preferred the gameplay of the second, honestly. Except for the Kill Puzzles. Great and fun concept, horrible execution.
I hope TRI will eventually make a sequel. Or something to resolve the ending. I want to see World War Vampire :(
Anyway, still playing through Supreme Commander, and I finally beat the UEF campaign after 18 hours. Found out how to check the TMD and SMD launchers' ammo too, which made countering those pesky aeon nukes in the 5th mission oh so much easier.

Oh yeah, those puzzles really did my head in. That and the pathway to objectives not being clear a lot of the time (like pulling down the cieling with your chain. The chain only works in certain places, nor have you ever did an action like that previously). The first game had its problems in level design as well, particularly a latter part in the game involving entering a castle where damn near every door is locked (only to find out that the entrance is hidden in a breakable wall. Fine, breaking into locations through walls was a thing before. Having to hit the wall multiple times wasn't. Cue running about the level for ages). I did find myself thinking though in the second one that "hey, I could've jumped over that low wall in the first game" and cut out half of a level. ¬¬
Gemini Rue so far's all right. I'm not sure if I'm messing up important bits or not, but I guess that's the hallmark of a good puzzle game. Right? Damn I should have told that receptionist I was a PH Engineer.

Sadly I dont remember that mission, it being years since I last played the game. I should certainly replay it.
I love garrets little quips in the old game. He is someone who is good at theft so does it to pay the rent and keep a roof over his head for the most part. The new garret lives in a clock tower and dresses like a ninja and says he steals "because its what I do" which makes me think they have replaced garret with a cardboard cutout.
I feel like this gives everybody an idea of just how many aliens I captured in the hopeful chance I'd get a request from a nation for plasma weaponry which usually ends in lots of money. I kept lots of alien corpses and everything but all I ended up getting is usually requests for arc throwers or something stupid early on like satellites which was really hard to give (and I only fulfilled one satellite order because I needed that money). Keep in mind this is on impossible difficulty and I was in about October, November or possibly even the beginning of December of 2015 when I snapped that picture. All of those plasma rifles, light plasma rifles, plasma pistols and all but 2 or so of the heavy plasmas are from stunned alien captives.
My money per month is actually pretty low (only about 500 something credits per month). Which is why I had to capture most of my plasma weaponry and sell some ufo power sources and flight computers as well as some other stuff. I've also got quite a few firestorms.
I just find it crazy that the number of plasma weapons I have could probably outfit a small army instead of just a squad. It'd be kind of awesome if I could start making multiple bases and an entire army with this gear. Hell I probably have enough to give all xcom base security personnel plasma weapons and alien grenades.

Oooh nice. Are you running classic enemy within? I have trouble capturing aliens on that mode >.<
Actually no this is on impossible difficulty. It's not on ironman mode though. I don't think I could handle ironman too easily. I do repeat some saves when my squad gets wiped out but if most of it gets wiped out I don't.
Classic ironman isn't that hard though and I beat it anywhere from 4-5 times before trying impossible. Impossible ironman players are nuts. I think I'd put my fist through the computer before beating it if I could even manage it.
The odd part about impossible difficulty is once you have your momentum going it's pretty hard to lose it. The hardest part of the game is early to mid-game. Pretty much once satellites are covering most or all of the remaining nations and you have a couple countries that can leave the council without anything seriously bad happening you're golden. Not to mention if you've beaten base defense and the slingshot or 'enemy within' council missions then things should be pretty easy. Some council missions are also pretty easy while others are much harder. Saving anette's friends is not very hard but the first mission where you rescue the captive exalt member is. The mission where you rescue her is mixed since it's a timed mission. Same goes for the train and battleship mission in slingshot.
-------------------
It's not too hard to capture aliens. You just have to do certain things. Get the double item ability in the foundry, get squadsight snipers with disabling shot, use fast moving supports with med-kits and arc throwers esp. the boosted arc thrower (and early on use noobs and red-shirts to stun the enemy), if you have to use the flashbang grenades to disorient some clustered enemies when you're getting into position to capture them. Later on gene mods like secondary heart help a lot so that if your supports lose all their health trying to capture an enemy they get knocked out the first time they are reduced to no health and they bleed out over 5 turns instead of 3.
I'm a broken record, still playing D3, still having reasonable amount of fun. The barbarian is just great, I like the abilities and, of course, the thews.

I was losing interest playing my witchdoctor but leveling this barbarian is ridiculous fun right now. I may not like him at cap, dunno. Not sure if I really want to buy the expansion though.
Diablo 3 was a bit of fun but like I always say once I hit act 2 in the hardest difficulty you just don't want to play anymore. It all turned into farming gear/gold and going to the auction house and it was no longer fun.
The witch doctor was pretty good but I was surprised how much fun the demon hunter is. That said I stopped playing quite a while ago. I'll probably eventually get the expansion and i'll probably get bored of it quickly.
Blizzard manages to let a lot of people down with their games lately.
Playing through Mass Effect right now, for the first time.
Surprised the Infiltrator is the "Tech/Combat" class, and that I can't turn invisible. Wondering if I ought to have chosen a straight Tech or Tech/Biotic class.
Playing it for the first time?? Wow youre a bit behind
Saying that I'v also started playing the series again. Got all the meaningful DLC apart from the Mass Effect 3. Shall see how things go.
Gave up on Path of Exile, desynced twice and lost both my invasion characters, so Mass Effect, Minecraft and Euro Truck Sim 2 are what im playing just now.
I dont think there really is stealth. He gives you the sniper/pistol game play iirc, as well as providing some tech cool downs. I really liked my straight soldier but only after I tried some other classes.
If you don't like the sniper rifle you could do the half n half or all tech. I wanna say they only get a pistol but its been years. Infiltrator was my first clear though vanguard or whatever the bio soldier is called was probably my favorite.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Another consideration is which teammates you want to bring, if you want a so-called balanced party you can pick your favoritesand tailor to them.

The Infiltrator in Mass Effect was more of the "scout" styled infiltrator, the guys who stay out of sight but don't get close.
In Mass Effect 2 when the game starts to get tighter in terms of the playscape(you go from fighting out in the wilds and frontiers to more often than not being on heavily civilized worlds or close confines), then you'll get the Tactical Cloak(which in turn actually has two different "evolutions", the Assassination Cloak which is shorter in terms of duration but gives you a huge damage bonus or the Infiltration Cloak which gives you longer duration but less of a damage bonus).
To be honest, I'm fine with not having a cloak- I just wish the team commands were a little tighter- I'd love to be able to be the 'fire support' guy (or gal, I'm FemShep) spotting targets and picking off stragglers and threats while, say, Wrex and Ashley (or, probably gonna be Wrex and Kaidan or Tali- Ashley's kinda a jerk) are the close and midrange fighters. But there's no "Advance without me" command, and the AI isn't up to snuff quite yet.
Also wish there were longer-ranged abilities to go with the longer-ranged gun-- or a battle-rifle style midrange semi-auto weapon. I don't really do Assault rifles.

You're playing Infiltrator, right?
You do get an ability for the Sniper Rifle.
It's called "Assassination" and it is unlocked once you have put 3 points into the "Sniper Rifle" skill. "Assassination" gets upgraded to Advanced and Master Assassination, at 8 and 12 points in respectively.
"Assassination" is very similar to the Pistol ability, "Marksman". You won't unlock Sniper Rifles as a skill until you've put 5 points into Pistols.
No, I understand that- but that's basically straight upgrades to the rifle itself- I mean like Overload and the different 'tech make gadgets go boom' stuff- it's all pretty short range, so I can't blast someone's shields before sniping them, for example.

Actually Overload has a decent range on it. The problem is that it(and to a lesser extent Sabotage) were envisioned as being these "mines" that you might have noticed flying out from your character when using the ability.
It might seem like it has a short range, but that is more because the abilities have an 'arming time' before they affect a target.
skyrim. im playing a character who wished to get all the daedric artefacts and stop them messing with other people, but got corrupted by the mace of molag bal and went evil.
Themed characters always make that game more fun for me. I had a wood elf archer who was afraid of other people so he'd break into shops to steal stuff he needed and left guilt loot behind :p

For ME1, what you do is get the Spectre sniper rifle and put High-ex rounds in it.
It overheats every shot fired, but feth me, that thing will one-shot pretty much everything smaller than a Geth Prime! It's like a man-portable tank cannon! It's so much fun shooting Geth and watching them disintegrate!
Back OT - I've been putting loads of time into X3: Terran Conflict recently. Now I've got stations and traders earning me loads of money it's starting to get more fun
I picked up Diablo 3 this weekend since it was on sale for $20. After putting about 8 hours into it, I still don't understand why so many people say that Diablo 3 is better than Torchlight 2. The only thing Diablo has over Torchlight (in my opinion) is the story. Everything else goes to TL2.
Saying that, I've had tons of fun playing as the Witch Doctor. While not very effective, I love throwing jars of jumping spiders at enemies I'm also loving the Monk
My Barbarian in D3 is at level 56, gonna aim to hit 60 tonight, if I get out of work early. Next'll be finishing my monk or demon hunter: thinking the DH, since I already have a combat heavy character, I'd like to finish the shooter.
Currently downloading a "fresh" Warhammer Online install, since myu disk doesn't update it to the latest version. Good thing that there's a part of the community making a private server
I wondered if anyone would try something with WAR, maybe the private server will have better balance than the others seemed to have. Perhaps less lag too? Good luck, I kind of miss it.
My barb just hit 51, I found a Thunderfury, Blessed blade of the windseeker, which was a legendary from WoW, tripled my damage output so now I'm having fun roflstomping all of creation for a few levels. Still not sure I can stand my demon hunter, gotta find a build I like that doesn't destroy my clicking hand with a ridiculous amount of shooting. May try a crusader soon if I get the expansion.
@Tibbsy that is exactly how I played my game too I think you can get two upgrades for some of the guns right? I got something like two barrel extensions or that ammo you mentioned. BOOOOM - warning beep beep beep beep...BOOOOM - beep beep beep beep BOOM. It was so fun. The assault rifle with two stabilizers was cool too it took forever to bloom. That or the geth rifle. I missed that customizability in ME2.

Played a little and thought it was decent with some funny parts. I like south park but I am not a south park fan if that makes sense so I think a lot of the game is lost on me.
